While in Dubuque I had my heart set on chipotle, but there isn't one, so I visited Adobos based on hotel recommendations instead. I had a barbacoa burrito bowl which was flavorful and a margarita that was VERY strong. Everything was well made but overall it was lacking something to get me excited about. Their burrito bar is the best! Fresh, delicious ingredients and friendly staff. I actually prefer this place over Panchero's. I've tried many things on the menu, most off which are $6.99, but I always go back to their burritos. Plus every 5 or so that I buy I get one free. I work at IBM across the street and have dined at Adobo's a few times. The food each time has been exceptional for Mexican restaurants and easily beats Salsa's, Los Aztecas, and Fiesta Cancun in town. This is one of those rare Mexican restaurants where when you get your food you can see and taste that they CARE about their food. You don't get that microwaved-looking plate that most Mexican places, like the aforementioned, present you. You can even see it in the rice. It isn't that typical, super bland rice that most Mexican restaurants have. They even offer a half a dozen alternative homemade salsas in addition to the token bland, mild salsa with your appetizer chips (which seem high quality and are served warm) although I wasn't crazy about any of the other flavors. I DO appreciate the variety though and that they make it themselves. The wait staff is friendly and the only real drawbacks are a bit of a lack of sophistication in the decor and a slightly elevated price relative to other Mexican restaurants, but not unreasonable. And you do get better quality for your added buck or two. I give them four stars because they're in the top 10% of Mexican restaurants I've been to. I wouldn't go out of my way to try them out, but if you're in Dubuque and want the best tasting authentic Mexican food in town and will pay an extra buck or two for it, then Adobo's is your place. The decor is not impressive but we were happy with our food. My vegetarian option was a little odd - it included water chestnuts and baby corns which seem more Asian than Mexican but it was prepared well. My husband loved his entree and is looking forward to going back for some more traditional dishes. He is particularly excited about trying the different Tacos Rancheros - he says if a Mexican place has tongue on the menu then it's the real deal. read more

Had the burrito with all the fillings and it was very good. The decor is basic and the place is clean. A good value except the price of fountain drinks and side quac. Tried Adobos for the first time last night and it was pretty good! I'm pretty partial to Pancheros so I was a little disappointed that the tortillas were store bought. I also wish they would remind you of everything that is an extra charge. They offer you cheese sauce and them don't tell you it costs extra. But, overall the taste was really good! We had breakfast burritos from their food truck at the Farmers Market. They were excellent. So much flavorful food packed into that burrito. Had the chorizo which had good flavor and heat. If we were in town longer we'd enjoy visiting the restaurant. read more

Food was okay. They charged for queso cheese on burrito when the flyer says it's free. Then when questioned try to tell me the free queso cheese is the shredded. Like I'm an idot and don't know what queso cheese is. Not a fan and never spending 38 dollars for three burritos and a margarita. Huge thumb down!! read more

One of the better places I went for lunch in DBQ. The carnitas was not well seasoned. But the burrito was decent with some salt and salsa.

I eat lunch here often. Their Ranch Rice Bowl lunch special is a perfect mid-day meal. I eat it with the complimentary chips.

I had lunch at Adobos. I had the "bowl" (not sure of its exact name). It was beans, rice, chicken, cheese, peppers, onions, cilantro. It was fabulous. The service was quick, our server offered and delivered a second basket of chips (for two people), and the prices were very reasonable. read more

The 2-star review before mine may have been true at the time it was written, but my oh my have things changed since then. Now, Adobos is without question the best Mexican food restaurant in the Tri-State region. Jaime, the chef, is also the chef at one of the expensive restaurants on Main St. At Adobos, he cooks up meals that are just as wonderful at a fraction of the cost. $1.75 taqueria-style tacos, a choice of homemade salsas, and the best mole, chipotle, and (especially!) diablo sauces you can find are just a few of the reasons to give Adobos a try. Pretty much whatever item you order at Adobo's is going to be among the best you've ever tasted in your life. From the multiple choices of delicious salsas and taqueria-style tacos to the amazing salmon plate and tilapia tacos, everything is wonderful. They have great seafood enchiladas, as well, although neither they nor the tilapia tacos are on the menu (just ask for them). Among the dishes I've tried here that were the best I've ever tasted are the enchiladas mole, enchiladas Maria (verde--get the chicken), tilapia tacos, tacos de carnitas, and anything with their chipotle, brown tomatillo, or diablo sauce. The Baja Burrito (also not on the menu) is also incredible as well as it's cousin, the 3-cheese burrito, which IS on the menu. Prices are reasonable. Servers are wonderful too. Keep in mind that it's a small, owner-operated business, so if there is a crowd, you may have to wait a bit. Usually they are not that busy, but they deserve to be. Definitely the best Mexican food in the Tri-State region and also better than any I've had in Madison or Milwaukee. read more
