I love this location so much and I recommend it to everyone. Although it's pretty pricey, it's completely worth it. I use Nicole for cuts and trims (she's brilliant) and Danielle for my baliage - she's extremely good!! I'm blonde and getting the right kind of color without looking too yellow is hard to do but Danielle is incredibly skilled and it always comes out beautiful. I've gone to her for over 3 years and I've never been disappointed. Their staff is nice and respectful and they always offer water, coffee, or tea and it's a nice touch. I go to Gabrielle or Ghalia for my eyebrows - both are AMAZING. But make sure you totally grow your brows out before going so they have stuff to work with when they want to shape them. This is my 1st Yelp Review ever -- please bear with me... I'm so bummed to say this, as I've been a loyal Adolf Biecker customer since 2019 and have stayed with the salon through multiple turnovers with colorists. They do a phenomenal job with hair! That's never been the issue, hence why I'm so sad about needing to find a new salon. My frustration is with the reception staff. I work in customer service and, believe me, I deeply understand the challenges posed by dealing with the public. Everyone is entitled to having a bad day, feeling stressed, juggling too much at once, etc., but unfortunately, this wasn't a one-off. For the past year or so, I've been met with unprofessionalism, apathy, and annoyance when speaking with Adolf Biecker receptionists. As ridiculous as this may sound, I feel like I've been transported back to high school mean girls every time I get off the phone. I'm very confused by this situation, being a customer-facing professional myself. If I treated my clients like this, I'd be unemployed (note: please don't fire anyone -- I'm writing this to bring awareness to a blind spot within management/customer experience). I certainly don't intend to rant or speak ill of anyone at Adolf Biecker as I adore this salon, but I feel belittled and like a burden whenever I call the salon. I've never had an issue with any staff in person nor have I ever had any issues with services. This whole situation perplexes me but has also driven me to explore new salons that will treat me like a respected, valued client. I hope I don't sound like a Karen... I'm older Gen Z (mid-20s) and have never left a negative review before, but if my generation is leaving a Yelp review, there's a glaring issue. I've been an Adolf Biecker customer for many years... first at the Rittenhouse Hotel location and later (and currently) at the location in Strafford. I discovered them when I was in graduate school and now live at some distance. But, after trying several other salons closer to home over the years, I've long given up looking for another one. Adolf Biecker is simply the best. Professional service, great talent, high standards and a relaxing atmosphere. It's always a treat when I go for an appointment. It was especially so earlier this month when I brought my niece to the salon for hair and make-up for her birthday. Deb, the manager, put a lot of thought and effort into helping me plan the day. Hannah (stylist) and Kathleen (make-up artist) did such a fantastic job and gave her a look that was beautiful, natural and polished. My niece was thrilled with the experience and was positively glowing for the rest of the day. We saw her again on Mother's Day weekend, and the quality of the haircut was truly striking. Maybe the most unprofessional salon on the Main Line. I am a new client and had an appointment with Jim G for 230. I have had that appointment for 2+ months. They asked me 3 times to confirm it which I did and then, 2 hours before I'm scheduled to get my hair cut, I get a call that Jim can't take me. He has to leave for the day. They offer to reschedule me for December. Say what? Absolute utter nonsense. If this is the way they treat a new client before they are there, I cannot imagine how you get treated when you show up. If you want a place to get your hair coloured, don't go here. I'm a new client- I only went here because a family member suggested it. I initially went on the website to book for a color, cut, and blow-dry, but there was nothing on this location having hair color bookings, so I went with the blow-dry and cut. I figured maybe they do hair color in person and I'd have to pay extra which I wouldn't mind. The email they sent for confirming my appointment stated to arrive 15 minutes early for some spa treatments, I figured it would just be a mini-skincare routine, I was given none. When I got there, I asked if I could get my hair colored, but that would have to be a separate booking. I at least got to go through some hair color samples with the guy who was suppose to color my hair. However I had to wait until May 29th to get it done, it was April 16th when I got the blow dry and cut. May 29th arrives, and then around 8:30 in the morning I get a call that John, the guy who was suppose to do my hair, was sick. They never bothered recommending me someone else to do my hair, they ask to reschedule for Thursday at 2pm. I couldn't do that due to finals week coming up (I'm a college student, which made it more inconvenient for them to suggest I'd get it done the Thursday the following week) so I decided to do May 18th. Fast forward to today I get a call saying he's sick again. I decided that I'm not gonna go forward with this as it is ridiculous to make me wait over two months for getting my hair colored. Especially since they didn't even bother to suggest anyone else to do my hair much sooner. read more

When I moved to the Philly burbs from Boston, I was of course VERY worried about who would become my new hairdresser. ;) Adolf Biecker is an Aveda salon. The colorist, Michelle, is the best in Philly, in my opinion. (She's actually won that award, I believe.) She always does exactly what I ask and most importantly, I always get compliments on my color! Nae does my cut and again, I've always been happy. The spa is good - I've only had massages and facials - but my only gripe would be that because it's under the salon, sometimes you hear footsteps and voices from up above. Fine, except it's not the most condusive to "relaxation." But this distraction isn't enough to turn me off from the spa completely. read more

I went to Adolf Biecker twice to try and fix my hair after it had been completely bleached of all its color. Michelle is the "blonde" girl in the salon. We spent a lot of time talking about what had happened and what I wanted my hair to look like, as well as trying to get an idea of what the revival process would be. Both times she sued demi-permanent color. The second time when the color washed out after 10 days she blamed me and said that my hair was too damaged I would have to cut it off and let it regrow. I had been working 5 years to grow my hair back out so that wasn't an option. On a trip to Colorado I went to see my old hair stylist and he fixed it in one visit, the color has held beautifully for 6 months. If you are a novice color-er or very particular and not necessarily super articulate I would not recommend Michelle. Jenna styled my hair and her blowout was sub-par for a salon blowout. My fine hair was limp and flat, I didn't have the usual bounce that I expect from a salon. I would not recommend this salon unless you go for a consultation. You also need to have a very clear idea of what you want, and be able to communicate that with your stylist. read more

I've been going to Adolf Biecker in Wayne for my cut & style for over 4yrs now and cannot imagine changing to a different salon. In those 4yrs, I've moved from the Mainline (where my family lives), to Pittsburgh, and now to D.C., but I keep going back to Radnor just to get my hair cut. Brittany has been cutting my hair for over a year now and I LOVE HER!!! (My previous stylist was wonderful too but she is no longer at Adolf, so I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of the stylists.) I have long & relatively thick hair and Brittany always knows EXACTLY what to do to make my hair look perfect and lightweight. I rarely provide her any instructions because she knows how to layer & cut my hair so that it falls in just the right way. My layers stay neat & symmetrical weeks after I get my hair done and I always receive compliments from others because of how my layers fall and frame my face. I let her do something a little different each time I make an appointment and every single time, my hair turns out better than I could have hoped for. Services are fine but pricey. I expect that in a nice salon and their prices are listed. But getting ripped off is different. When your stylist Nicole (that you have been seeing for 3 years) says toughest job in salon is front desk because some customers feel got ripped off. Really, how?! Now I know. Stylists are trained to add services without asking and then charge for them. Never experienced this in other Wayne salons, and never in Baltimore or DC salons either. For example: Lam asks "Are we doing same as last visit, balayage and gloss"? Yes! Then stylist adds additional services and charges for that too. Next visit for keratin treatment, I ask Nicole to trim bright ends on side pieces. Wonder why she trims the back too but takes 3 minutes total. Then she charges for full haircut that usually takes half hour. When I ask for clarification at front desk I am told that if stylist touches back of hair then full cut price. Didn't ask for that. Salon Got 2 extra fees but lost a customer to more reputable salon. Beware of "upsell' and " rip-off" policies at Adolf Biecker. Now you know. read more

Jim is the best thing to ever happen to my hair!!! I highly recommend him! Been getting my haircuts/blowouts here for over 10 years now with him, and I've never once been disappointed with the service or end result he provides. He takes his time on each client, makes sure he knows exactly what you're looking for is accomplished, has great conversation throughout the process, and overall does an amazing job and sends you home with fabulous looking hair. He also gives very real advice on hair care and how he thinks you'll look the best. This is the worse customers services and experience that I've ever had. I have been a customer for so many years at Adolf Biecker at 34th walnut street and I have to say that they don't care at all about their customers, you are just a number, everything is about money. I just have and awful day and I was looking forward to have at least my hair done today. My appointment was at 3:30 and I was running 10 min late and when I've got there they just told me they had to rescheduled it because I was 15 min late, (which is not true as I have my parking ticket with the time I've parked my car outside adolf Biecker), but apparently they had another appointment at 4:00pm, really? 30 min to color my hair? And then I sometimes I leave there with marks all over my face, because they don't care about you, they only care how many customers are going to get that day. Well, you just have one less customer at your salons, there are plenty of salons in Philadelphia were they do really care about their customers. read more

I have been getting my hair cut at Adolf Biecker for six years and I am very satisfied with the salon. When I starting going their my stylist Rachel was one of their less experienced stylists but through the years I have seen her skills develop, sadly along with her prices. She does a really fantastic job on my bangs and the salon offers free bang trims between appointments, which are really helpful since my hair grows super fast. Adolf Biecker has several levels of stylists, with prices to match their level of experience so be sure to ask about that when booking your appointment. I am conflicted about Adolf Biecker. I get great haircuts there, and all the women in my family are loyal to their stylists. However, I am deeply opposed to their policy of refusing to schedule keratin treatments on the weekend. The reason Adolf Biecker offers is that hair straightening takes too much of a stylist's time on a busy weekend day. Could they be any more transparent about their priority of maximizing revenue over serving loyal clientele? Furthermore, the principle of not offering a service on the weekend bears an inherent prejudice in favor of women who have the luxury to spend hours at the salon during the week. As a career woman, I cannot tolerate such narrow-minded rigidity. If Adolf Biecker seeks to remain a salon for the wives of the 1%, so be it. Having been refused service for a keratin treatment twice now, I will continue to take my business elsewhere. I encourage Adolf Biecker's clients to speak out against this ridiculous, antiquated, and unfair policy. read more

Rachel has been cutting my hair for the last 8 years years and I am always thrilled with how my hair has tons of movement after she styles it. Last year I started getting Balayage (type of color treatment) with Danielle and she was very helpful in explaining the process and ensuring I was happy with the end results. Also do not go anywhere else for a bikini wax or eyebrow wax. The professionalism, products, atmosphere and results here are simply the best. Yikes. I have never left a review on yelp before but my experience at this salon was so unsatisfactory and the management's response was so baffling... I had to share! I just moved to the mainline from New York where I used to get my hair colored and this was my first time seeing Tiffany the colorist at the Adolf Biecker Wayne location. (August 2020). I explained what I wanted (cover my grays while creating some dimension in my hair w highlights) and explained how my colorist at Bumble & Bumble used to do it by creating partial highlights then going back in and painting over my grays. Tiffany explained that she was going to do it differently- I said ok great as long as we get the job done! It turns out she only highlighted my hair, so I was left with a head full of grays and some very blonde highlights (I am a deep brunette). Tiffany was very nice and could tell I wasn't happy as this wasn't the desired outcome, so she said I should wait a few weeks and call back and she could fix it. I waited a few weeks, while fielding comments about the new "streaks" in my hair (nightmare!) and called back today where a manager, Debbie, told me that because I waited so long to call I would be charged full price to fix. No one ever explained the policy (apparently to call back within 2 weeks). I asked her if she was willing to lose a lifetime customer (bc I certainly would have been if I had walked of there with hair I loved!) and risk a bad review to make the $400 to fix the hair? And she only responded that she couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't be charged full price. I can guarantee that I will never return! To the owners of AB- suggest you train management on creating customer loyalty or else you won't be open for long. Yikes. read more

I'm giving this salon two stars strictly because of the manager. I recently had a very unpleasant experience here--so unpleasant that I went to the trouble of writing a letter of complaint to the manager. Some of the receptionists, but especially my stylist, were totally lacking in customer service skills--snobby, arrogant, and rude. I was truly amazed at this particular stylist's brusque, curt manner, and unwillingness to communicate with me as to how my hair should be cut. She had a rather defensive attitude and didn't seem to like the fact that I asked questions. I also don't think she understands the concept that there's more to being a professional stylist than the ability to cut hair. I've honestly never witnessed such a thing in a salon of this caliber. It felt more like The Hair Cuttery than Adolf Biecker. I was so surprised because I'd been a client at their Philadelphia location for over 25 years and had nothing but pleasant experiences. I moved recently and the Strafford salon is now closer, so I tried a stylist there expecting the same excellent service. Wrong. The manager, Debbie, called me immediately upon receipt of my letter, really listened to what I had to say, and apologized. She understood why I was upset and generously compensated me, so I have to at least give her credit. However, I can't help but question why she continues to employ such unprofessional people. read more

I have been a loyal Aveda client for years and always scope one out in every city I've lived in. I recently moved to this area and tried this salon. This review is for the two times I've been to this particular salon and I was really disappointed with the customer service, service quality, and overall experience. The first visit 2 months ago was ok, but not great. The front staff was not welcoming, and were too busy chatting to even notice me. They barked for me to get a robe on and didn't seem inclined to show me where they could be found. My cut was fine, but nothing special. I thought I'd give them another shot to show me the great service and experience that I'm used to at Aveda salons, but my second visit was terrible. I called to set an appointment and the woman on the phone told me they were booked on the days/times I could make it for the foreseeable 2 weeks. I immediately went online and, voila, a shiny appointment at the exact time and day I asked for a few days away. I reserved it. I walked in a few minutes early, and was met rudely. Everyone had a blasé attitude. There then seemed to be some confusion about who was cutting my hair. The stylist cut my hair in less than 15 minutes, was visibly miserable, and her little conversation consisted of comments like "Have you really never learned to do xyz with your hair?" I'm sure there are decent stylists here and maybe clients with longer duration relationships get better treatment, but I'll be moving on to another salon and would not recommend this salon. read more

I really like this place. It's so reasonably priced for a spa-like experience. The bowl chairs are so comfy!! After years of getting so/so haircuts that I could never style on my own, I finally found a stylist that understands my hair and does an amazing job. Toni is my girl! Go see her!!! I also got balayage done there by a really sweet stylist. The only thing holding me back from a 5 star rating here is that I had to go back to get the color re-done because it didn't quite turn out how I wanted the first time around. I went to Adolf Biecker for years and usually had good service. I am no longer going to be going there. After a olaplex color that fried my hair, the store manager was very combative saying that my hair was suddenly fried because I use a flat iron. She insinuated I lied when I told her that my stylist also said her hair got fried as well using the product. She eventually offered a free conditioning treatment after I threatened to call the owner, but honestly after being treated the way she treated me, I would prefer to take my hard-earned money elsewhere. read more

I've been going an Aveda salon for 6+ years because I love their color and hair products. My favorite stylist left that salon so I decided to try a new place closer to home. I did some research and decided to try Adolf Biecker in Strafford/Devon area. I booked a cut with Rachel and color with Danielle. The front desk staff was not welcoming as they seem to be too interested in catering to their older wash-n-set clientele to greet anyone else. Rachel's cut was decent but not particularly exciting. Danielle did a nice job on my color. I did not want to pay extra to get my hair blown out after my color and I went to the drying station to dry my hair. There was a basket of brushes for customers to use at the stations and they were full of hair and caked on product. Absolutely disgusting! I tried to get someone's attention but that just didn't happen. So I chose the one that was the least gross and dried my hair as quickly as possible. When I went up the front desk to check out, I told them about the brushes and no one apologized, just said "oh". While the technicians are good, the customer service and overall salon is below standards. I will not be going back or recommending Adolf Biecker to anyone. read more

The only redeeming quality of this entire salon is Jim - there is a reason his wait list is so long. He is super nice and does a great job - I think it took me so long to finally leave this salon just because I loved giving him my business. The recptionists here - including (especially) the manager - are extremely rude and snooty, with absolutely no reason for the attitude. This salon produces some seriously mediocre work and is certainly nothing to brag about. Be nice to your customers, ladies - they're paying you hundreds of dollars and would like to enjoy the experience without feeling like you are doing them some huge favor.
