I witnessed no empathy, understanding or care for someone who was hurting. The office in The Dalles which the appointment took place was Columbia Pain Management. The room where we met the doctor was the smallest patient room I've ever been inside. But, most disturbing was the fact the walls were so thin I could hear other patients talking to their doctors. In turn I could hear the doctor discussing my wife's conditions through the closed door. The discussion was talking place in the common area where the other patients could hear from their places inside closed rooms. Also, all the receptionists and billing people could also hear their derisive comments. I found the whole set up extremely unprofessional. I will be making a HIPAA complaint in the near future.

At the end of the appointment, I filled out more paper work and had to wait for the scheduler to call me again to actually schedule the surgery. She called back several days later (not the next day as I had been told), with appointments (yes, plural!) for another month later. She said because the surgery would be more than 30 days after my last appointment (not my fault), I would have to do ANOTHER pre-OP and fill out the same paperwork AGAIN. And get this, the scheduler told me I would have to do a pre-op at 8am, then go to a different location to fill out paperwork at 11am, and only then could I go into surgery the FOLLOWING morning. A waste of my time. What I can't figure is if it's solely due to incompetence or if increasing billings to insurance companies is part of the clinics acceptable protocol? Perhaps this is what you can expect from a small-town clinic. Bummer. It looks like will have to take my business to a doctor in Portland.
