After weeks of confusion and no coordination between Beacon and my dentist, I had to act as the go-between just to get a surgery date. On the day of the surgery, after fasting and carefully following instructions, I was told -- while already in the chair -- that the procedure was canceled. Why? Because I had taken my medication with a tiny sip of diluted grape juice three hours earlier. Not too much liquid -- just a small amount, mostly water (1 or 2 tablespoons). Instead of simply asking, the surgical assistant played a condescending game: "Show me with your fingers how much you drank." It felt demeaning. The surgeon never even came in to speak with me. I had prepaid $18,150 out of pocket -- money pulled from savings and investments. They offered no payment plan, no insurance coding support, and no transparency. I left in tears. I will never go back, and I want others to be warned.

Dentistry has come a long ways, and as expected, HRD seems to keep up with new techniques, equipment, and trends. It's never fun to have to go to the dentist, however HRD has managed, in most cases to ease the pain quite effectively. Generally dentist visits are expensive. HRD is no different, but I do feel I have been treated fairly, received great compassionate care, and am generally pleased with my experiences with HRD.

I spent weeks coordinating between my dentist and Beacon with no help from either office. Patients shouldn't be the ones stuck navigating inter-office chaos. A liaison is desperately needed to ensure people aren't left confused, delayed, or falling through the cracks like I did. On surgery day, I was in the chair, ready -- scared, but prepared -- when the assistant came in with a fake-sweet tone and canceled everything on the spot. Why? Because I'd taken a tiny sip of water mixed with a bit of grape juice three hours before. I followed the instructions to the letter. But they wanted a reason to push me out, and they used that as their excuse. The girl who took me into the room to get me ready, never did listen to me. She kept telling me that I had drink much more juice than I said to her. Imagine dilute in your juice 2/3 parts water 1/3 part juice and then when you put it in your cup, you add 50% more water. And then imagine that you could take a few pills with between one and 2 tablespoons of liquid. That's what I took and I tried to explain that to her, but she didn't want to hear it. She just wanted me gone. I don't believe she told the truth to the doctor because he had talked with my dentist and told her that I wasn't having the surgery because I drank juice. I also had an advocate who works for my Dentist come with me, and she wasn't allowed to come into the room until the girl who took me back. There was able to create the scenario that I wouldn't be getting the surgery without being completely honest with the doctor, if in fact, he was the one who made the decision. I will never trust this company again. Worse still, the surgeon never spoke to me -- not even to explain or apologize. I had written him a check for $18,150. They don't accept payment plans. They don't help with insurance coding. They just expect people to hand over their life savings, and if you question any of it -- well, you're out! If this clinic had any respect for patients, they'd listen. They'd help. They'd have the decency to speak face-to-face. I left their office feeling humiliated and discarded. I want no one else to go through what I did.

In a small town, small businesses become more like family rather than just a business. Dr. Cullen took over this practice in 2018, but it feels like he's been here longer. He builds a rapport with his patients. He speaks calmly and respectfully. He explains everything in detail without overwhelming you. Every phone call, email, and interaction is about the "golden rule" - do unto others as you wish be done to you. They are there for their patients during routine dental checkups and in times of emergency. And, of course, the view from their dental chairs is phenomenal! It's called "Columbia View" for a reason.
