Company with a former sterling reputation now sends aggressive sales reps as many as one per day for a week even after being asked to leave and trespassed from the home. Parking in our driveway despite common etiquette and even a sign leaving oil spills. Rude attitude and refusing to walk away when asked and corporate providing a cold outsourced rep who took forever to put a note in their system to stop the behavior which may not work. Very damaging to their reputation. Also I'm white in a predominantly black neighborhood and have never seen this behavior in a predominantly white neighborhood so their reps seemingly have different standards of respect for people of color and their property. read more

Alarm system began having issues within 60 days of installation. Install was a mess as well, the magnetic switch's look awful on the windows big and clunky and fall off weekly due to sun degradation on adhesive. Constant connectivity issues, alarm failures or faltering and customer service is a nightmare! We just stopped paying and it wasn't until then that we got attention but the wrong kind. Absolute hot garbage. First of all, their window to cancel is 3 days. I'm just happy for the person at Walmart that I watched return some rotten steaks. Good for you, girl, get that refund on something you let spoil. My alarm has been set off 5-7 times, mostly by my dogs but some were by my fault, and they have one of those accounted for -- and for that one, my call from them happened some 2-3 hours later. Then they want to know why I didn't call them afterwards, which is fair but I work 3 jobs. As the consumer, I'm wondering why I'm paying for them to monitor my residence and they expect for me to call them. On my side, I'm not getting any indications that there are any system/ communication issues. I have spoken with them countless times, hours at a time with multiple reps. They haven't been specifically after each event, but at some point after - again, I want you to notify me because that's what I'm paying you for. I ask to term the contract many times over and they're happy to do that if you pay the entire amount but they're not willing to admit guilt or take the L. We have had at least one virtual tech apt and at least one physical tech appointment (I don't keep a journal of all of this because I thought they were a reputable company but I honestly think there have been two of each). This past Monday, a little more than 3 months into the contract, I finally speak with someone in the department that can terminate contracts. She was really kind - her name was maybe Rosiland or Rosalina (IDK) - who tells me that they understand and said that she understands my frustration and said that to have the contract cancelled, I just needed to have a tech come out and identify the prior issues with their system's communication and if they weren't able to, I would be able to have the contract terminated. THAT HAPPENED and they said that it appears to be working now but they didn't know why it wasn't working in the past -- neither do I but I'm not the one promising a service and not delivering it. At the end of it all, at least to this point, they gave me a month of service for free and they refuse to terminate the contract. That's not to say that the alarm could go off tomorrow, whether it's my fault or an actual intruder, and I don't feel confident that anything would actually happen. I have been with ADT for 30 years. I had a terrible customer experience with them 2 months ago. I called to cancel and was told that they would update the equipment for free. Their tech comes out yesterday stating he had to charge me for a second panel but at the end waives it and charges me for multiple other pieces. I am so disappointed with ADT! After 30 years of being a customer through my home security system, they refuse to help me resolve my issue. I upgraded to be able to use an app on my phone to set our alarm as well as bought outdoor cameras and a door bell. (Over $600.00) When the tech came out, he could not figure out how to hook Up my old system to the new app. He talked us into a new system (another $165.00) I had to leave for a funeral while he was installing. When I returned home. I found a hole in my wall and paint exposed from the previous system being there. I have spent hours on the phone with them trying to get this fixed. Today a made 12 phone calls to them and nothing except for if I cancel they'll charge me a fee. Seriously, you never got it right to begin with! Anyone with sense Do Not have ADT for your security system they are not very professional when it come to talking to you and handling your calls about your account or your system. ADT took money out of my account on three occasions and billed me for the whole amount of the loan. The last draw is when they took 274.10 out of my account. They asked how I wanted to handle the remaining balance and I said bill me they were like ok . How about they took it upon themselves to take the remaining balance from a debit card they had on file. My cameras were not working, the alarm panel had errors, when asking for help they had a long wait, we did not get any assistance until two weeks after the problems. When dealing with the CSR rep they had communication issues with our language. After being patient we decided to leave and cancel to get fine a $625. cancellation contract. I suggest if you are needing a security system for the house of business. Keep doing research and do not hire ADT, One of the worst security company I ever had. Worst company ever. My system has been failing ever since I got it, but they have never been able to fix the issues. When the window sensors fail, they send me replacement sensors that they want me to pay for and expect me to install them. The way they are installed is a joke and I can't even raise or lower my blinds for fear I will knock them out of alignment or off. The control panels are very bright and there is no way to turn them off or down so I have to hang a dish rag over them so I can sleep at night. Now, I've sold my house and they won't transfer the system over to them. They want me to pay off the remaining balance and then have them to call and sign up. Again, no customer service, it's completely about what makes them money and their convenience. Not mine. I will NEVER EVER use their service again. Go to Costco and buy a system off the shelf and install it yourself. There literally wouldn't be any difference in customer service and it would cost you a whole lot less. read more

I wasted so much time talking with a rep who mansplained how I was wrong to consider going anywhere else, and that the issues I was having were likely manual error (me). I ordered service 7 years ago. I paid over $800 for cameras. I was told repair maintenance was free, it isn't. They charge you to come out. I called in august 2024 to get bill lowered from $47.99 a month to $29.99. I was told it was good as long as I stayed with company 36mo. Now here in 2025 I got $47.41 taken out of my bank. When I called I was told the $29.99 ended. But we had agreed on that for 36 months. I got no where with them and I'm on fixed income at 80 years old I cannot afford that. I want to cancel and they said I'd have to pay over $1000 Go with Ring or Simply safe and stay away from ADT. It's not the good company it was years ago. Just replaced our aging hard wired ADT security system with one of their DIY systems. The transition could not have been easier. The instillation process is simple and ADT telephone support is first rate. ADT came late to the DIY security market but they clearly took time to get it right. Our system integrated nicely with the Google smart home App. Monthly monitoring is $34 now, down from $80 with the hard wired system. Took a couple of hours to set up five doors, two cameras, a water sensor, smoke detector, door bell and two motion detectors. Very pleased with this choice. read more

I've had ADT for more than a decade, and customer service has always been bad, including that if you try to upgrade service, they won't tell you about any deals unless you turn down their first very expensive offer. (At that point,vthey suddenly remember that they have a great deal for longtime customers.) At this point, I'm trying to finally cancel service, but they say I'm in a contract that runs through December, 2026. I pointed out that I don't have this contract, and it's not in the documents section of my account. On long phone call #1, the rep said they couldn't email me the contract, but would mail it. It never arrived. On long phone call #2 (51 minutes), the very rude rep eventually said she had emailed me the contract, but that it might take 48 hours to arrive. The email actually arrived within an hour, but with a contract from 2013! That contract expired in 2016, at which point it shifted to month-to-month. Nonetheless, ADT says I'll need to pay hundreds of dollars to cancel service, even though there is no evidence that any contract exists! Stay away from this company! read more

Then I called back, and was out of normal business hours, so had AI experience, another dead end. I have been a customer for nearly 30 yrs. I am so completely outraged by what ADT is doing to me. My father had an ADT alarm system when he passed away in May. I inherited his house, and after his memorial service I called ADT to let them know of his passing, and to inquire about what to do with the alarm system. I explained that I planned to either sell the house, or rent it, but that it would take me a couple months to get it cleaned out and ready. In the meantime I told them that I would like to keep paying the monthly bill until then. I was told that I needed to put the alarm system in my name, and that they'd send someone to the house to make sure that everything works, and that I knew how to operate everything. I said fine, and was sent something to sign via email. Sadly, I didn't read all the fine print, as I assumed that I was just assuming the monthly payments, as we had discussed. So, 2 months later, when I called ADT to inform them that I had handed the property over to a property management company. I was informed that I had signed a 2 year contract, and that I'd have to pay almost $800 to cancel! Again, when I originally called in May, I was very, very clear that I only wanted to keep the system for a month or two. At no time did the ADT representative ever mention a 2 year contract! Quite the opposite. They said that I can just call when I was ready to cancel. This last week I've called ADT on two occasions and spent over an hour on the phone, and they insist that I have to pay the entire amount. I find this outrageous. What a nightmare! On top of that, in July, they sent a $423 bill to my late father because his contract apparently wasn't fulfilled. This is despite the fact that I already notified ADT that he had passed! Note that, after calling ADT, they were "nice" enough to forgive this bill. But they still want me to pay $800 for the contract they had me sign under false pretenses. This company has horrible infrastructure. It maybe hard to not get frustrated but just know most any issue you have will take atleast 2-3 reps help due to being constantly transferred around. I had to pay the remainder of contract for almost an entire year after a quick unexpected moving situation and was told by one of their reps that I wouldn't need to physically call to cancel after the contract ended and that I would be fine. WRONG!! I was charged yet again the following month after my contract ended for an entire month (after paying in total almost $600) and had to speak to 3 different people before they would cancel my service and was never given a straight answer about a refund or even any intention of it. I finally just decided to dispute it with my credit card company. STAY AWAY FROM ADT. You're much better off with any other pay as you go service like simplysafe or even vivint. Those calls were recorded and reviewed--yet I was denied cancellation and told I must subpoena my own call recordings. My system has not functioned properly for over a year, and I am still being billed for services that were not delivered. Despite repeated requests for support and ethical cancellation, I was met with silence or deflection. I am now pursuing legal action and filing formal complaints with the ADA and NC Department of Justice for disability-related discrimination and emotional exploitation. So I'm a single mom of a beautiful 6 year old boy. As most moms can relate, there's nothing I wouldn't do for him. Recently there has been an uptick in minor crimes around our neighborhood. Because my sister became ill, I had to start traveling more so to combat my concerns about safety, I started researching security systems, ultimately deciding on ADT after a call with their sales department. I was told if I sign up I would have a 30 day guarantee to cancel if it didn't work out. So I agreed for the salesman to come out. He came out talking about how he was concerned to leave without installing a new security system because it would jeopardize my son's life. Me, already concerned, fell into his fear mongering trap and said he could install under the confirmation I could cancel without repercussions within 30 days. During that time, my sister became ill, needing hospice, so my focus was on her anytime it wasn't on momming. She passed a little over 1 1/2 weeks ago. During the time I had my system, anytime I world arm away I would get a phone call saying a burglary alert was received causing panic for my fur babies at home. There was never a burglar so eventually I stopped using it during the day. Then at night, anytime my son 'blew up' is magnatile or LEGO creation it would set the night alarm off causing him to panic. Overall, it's been more trouble than it's worth. So finally, after I could pull my focus from my grief, I called ADT to cancel only to be told their 30 day policy was actually a 3 day policy. I was told by 3 separate people I had 30 days to cancel. 3. Only to try and be told it was not 30 days and they have no idea why anyone would say 30. So, as I sit here, trying to keep my grief at bay to mom I'm now stuck with a non functioning system and an absolutely disgusting feeling having been conned by the company that was hired to keep me safe. I honestly wish I could give 0 stars, because 1 star isn't even deserved. My issues started 8 months ago when my camera system stopped functioning correctly. Only about half of my cameras were working and worst of all the ADT system was trying to be a router for my network and causing my entire network to go down. I started by calling my ADT Service Rep and he sent tech after tech after tech to my location. The techs originally said it was my internet speed causing the problem. I have 2 gig internet... I showed them the speed to the switch they were connected to and it was running at 1 gig. Plenty of bandwidth for their camera system. They left without fixing my issue. I called my IT support who proved it wasn't our system that was the issue and it was their system causing it. Literally you could plug their system into our network and it would just shut it down. The issues started in March, I had techs out every month since and they still have yet to get this fixed. I paid over $5,000 for an install that doesn't even work. Then they have the guts to tell me their idea of having two boxes is the reason they are having issues. So I ask them to go down to 1 box. The tech shows up and they still can't get it to work. It's unreal at this point! I tell my rep, at least get me a refund for the months I haven't been able to use it, still nothing.... So today I've had it, I decided to go above my rep and start making phone calls. I finally got a service rep to transfer me to his manager and at the moment of that transfer, the line hangs up on me. 50 minutes on the phone waiting patiently and they hang up on me. I can't make this up. At this point I should sue the company for negligence. It may get to that. I cannot recommend you enough to go somewhere else for your security. ADT is the absolute worst. At least if I can save you from the hassle I have been through, I will feel better a little better about this. ADT made it nearly impossible to cancel my subscription after 15 years as a customer. My experience is they ask numerous questions and then say on text they don't have authorization to cancel service. I believe the strategy is to waste your time until you are too frustrated to do anything. They share the main 800 number with you - agents say don't have access to billing. Agents on the main 800 number "don't have the billing department number" and can't transfer you to it. There is only a single number listed on the ADT site. The agent says they are tech support only. The ADT chat bot directed me to this number on the specific request of payment account issues and cancellation. Next scam tactic- If you are lucky enough to get an agent at 800-238-2455 you have to suffer through 10 minutes of more of sales proposals and the "cancel your service" conversation be prepared for the charges to continue. They say they are canceling, but they don't and have no records of previous calls. What works is to cancel by writing a letter to them and copying your credit card company with the information. and blocking ADT from charging your credit card. Be prepared to challenge any bills to the credit card company. I suggest recording every phone call you have with them. They never have a record of any conversation involving cancellation. read more

Once you're locked in, they make sure you know there's no easy way out. The customer service? Abysmal. I lost count of the lies I was told, particularly around integration with Google. I was assured it would work seamlessly--spoiler alert: it didn't. I ended up stuck with a Google doorbell that didn't match the rest of my system, which totally defeated the idea of building a smart home. Instead of one cohesive platform, I had multiple apps, each with limited functionality. ADT's own app is clunky, outdated, and frustrating to use. If you want a smart home, just go with Google Home or something similar and skip this disaster entirely. Over the three years I had the system, not once did ADT respond to any alerts. Not for a glass break. Not for false alarms. Not even when I accidentally triggered the system myself. They never called. Never followed up. It was like paying for a security system that didn't exist. And even ending the contract felt like a scam. After paying thousands of dollars--over $3,500 for the equipment--I had to call at just the right time on just the right day to even get through the cancellation process. And when I finally reached someone, the rep made one last push to sell me another service, even though I made it clear I just wanted it to be over. Then, to top it all off, he informed me that my system might not even work anymore once it was deactivated--even though I now own the equipment outright. So what did I pay for? I've never been more disappointed or frustrated with a company. From deceptive sales tactics to poor system performance, nonexistent customer support, and a shady cancellation process--ADT has earned its place at the very bottom of my list.
