We moved to a new city recently, and our new home was wired with Frase Protection, so we decided to give them a try. We had previously used Ring Active Alarm Monitoring without issue, but figure why not give this one a try to see if it's worth the extra monthly fees (Frase costs quite a bit more than Ring). So, I gave the company a call over the weekend, explained we are curious to compare services for a few months, and they set us up on a recurring monthly subscription (after waiting about one month to schedule someone who could come to the house and reconnect everything). I believe they offered a one month free trial followed by a $59.50/mo subscription to which we agreed. We gave Frase about six months, and while we had no real issues with the service, we determined the extra cost was unjustified. Competitors offer the same active monitoring, better user interfaces (on web and mobile applications), and lower cost. Anyway, I called the front office over the weekend and left a message asking to please cancel our subscription. No one called back, so I tried again on Monday at around 3:00 pm. I was told the only person who could help had already left, so I left another message. Madeline (Maddy?) replied on Tuesday, informing me that I had unknowingly signed a 3-year contract with Frase, and that I would owe a $1,666.00 buyout fee to cancel. I explained that I had explicitly told the Frase representative with whom I had originally spoken that I was merely interested in trying it out Frase in the short term to compare it to Ring. The original representative did not tell me that I was entering into a 3-year agreement, and she should have known that made no sense given how open I was about my reason for trying Frase Protection as a short term solution that would only lead to a long term commitment if it proved superior to Ring Alarm. (Again, it did not.) Maddy said the representative with whom I had previously spoken had since left the company, so there was nothing she could do. In the end, she just removed the upcharge for the "app and service plan," which I didn't even realize was an option, thereby reducing my bill from $59.50 per month to $39.50 per month. However, that still means I am giving this company $39.50 per month for no services rendered, as we are back to using Ring Alarm Monitoring again. ...long story short: I do not recommend Frase Protection. If you do use this company, then go into it knowing that they will sign you up for the most expensive plan with a 3-year commitment. They do not offer a better product, and their customer service is about the same as their competitors. I thankfully did not have to test their emergency response, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it is far better than their non-emergency response. Otherwise we would be in some trouble.

One of my cutbacks involved removing one of my digital boxes, and replacing it with a converter box that only costs $3 per month. I took it to the service center to swap the two boxes, and found that the converter box doesn't work. I took it back, they gave me another one, and it doesn't work. I took it back a third time, and asked them to check it to make sure it works before giving it to me. They told me they could not test it, and gave me a third box. They are obviously recycling bad boxes, I guess hoping that their poor victim will give up or do the testing for them. Comcast is a monopoly, and it has all the bad traits of the US post office when it comes to service. Since one digital box gets you access to Infinity, I've decided to have one digital box with a DVR, and subscribe only to the digital starter package. I use the wireless router to access Netflix and Infinity to order movies or TV shows that I actually want to see.
