I have been an ADT customer for many years. The last contract was from 2016 until today. As an ADT customer expect to overpay for old technology by the time you get through a long contract.... You'll also continue to over-pay for monitoring until your contact expires. We've been paying $62/month so long we had forgotten about it. I realized we were over paying and our system was very basic (no cameras, doorbell cameras, no 2 way talk, nothing. 10+ year old technology). When I called ADT today to cancel my services after replacing the system they offered me $19/month for monitoring with a guaranteed 4 year rate lock in. I told them that would have been nice to know before I purchased new equipment from a competitor and installed it.... Then the charged me $62 for a month of service I won't use because I removed the system but they said I needed to provide them with 30 days notice even though my contract expired years ago. There are too many better providers that provide better technology and less expensive monitoring. Chose another provider. read more

Steer clear of the scam of a company!! I'm about to hit you with all the facts of the nightmare we have experienced so buckle up. I received a phone call from a guy named Dave Cottle wanting to know if there was anything they could do to keep our business. I think it's a scam so I disregard as I've not been made aware that anything is wrong with our service. Then I get a letting one the mail stating we have a balance of $3,000+!!! Talk about my heart dropping to my stomach. So I immediately find the voicemail from Dave and call and see what is going on. After going through the details with him it seems our expiration date didn't get updated in their system and we were never made aware of it until 151 days later!! He assured me this is not my fault and he is going to take care of us. I let him know there's no way we can pay that up front and come to find out it was $1,454.53 that was overdue for the equipment (the NEVER worked properly for months at a time). He came to our house and we worked out a way to have the balance decided up into payment plans as I had opted to do previously. I asked about why I didn't get any notice prior to 151 days past due and his response was that ADT doesn't do that. They just continue to bill. Well...he needed to charge is $25 to have the technician come out and reinstall our service and go over everything to make sure it was working properly (as our at arm had gone off multiple times without receiving the 1st phone call. So I then find out we have not been monitored as we had thought all along!! After giving him our card info we didn't receive a $25 charge but received a $1,453.52 charge! I immediately called Dave and he said he was reaching out to his manager Steve. Steve calls me and said it would be taken care of and it was not supposed to happen. He said to give them 3-5 business days. I wait the days and there's still no refund. Dave reaches out to me and wants to setup install as ADT had done everything he wanted them to do. I told him ok that sounds good. Never hear about setting up install. 7days pass and I'm still seeing no refund. He is telling me he can see everything has been approved we're just waiting on business days. More days pass. Show manager Steve is called into the situation again and is EUDE and I'm seen as an inconvenience at this point and calls me a liar for quoting his 3-5days and he says it takes 10-14 days. I wait and still nothing. I message Dave and he's on vacation and gives me an 800 number to call and speak to billing!! I call and after over an hr find out that nothing was ever approved and that we will not be getting our money back. I have messaged Dave and he has ghosted me. He came back in town 2 days ago and never called it txt back as I'm going through and doing everything he promised he would do. He has not taken care of us he has SCAMMED us and is just a debt collector for ADT when it was THEIR mistake all along for letting an account go with expired card information for over 151 days. I am currently disputing the charge with my bank. I have uploaded all the txt messages I have between Dave Cottle promising me a refund and I wish I had the proof of him calling his company a "Fuck up". Dave Cottle is a liar and a cheater to get what he needed done. He promised to take care of this for us and instead went on a nice long vacation while I fought to get our hard earned money back that was TAKEN from us without warning. Dave and Steve...I hope you sleep well knowing what you have put me and my family through. If you made it through all of this I have proof of the lies and the deceit this company is. Planned to delete home landline and move to web based service with ADT. They have had our account for eight years and wanted a three year contract and 15% increase for the change. ADT furnished the contract on-line and it was difficult to read. When printed the eight page contract it was in a font so small it was difficult to read. We read contracts before signing and asked ADT Customer Service for a PDF contract that we could read. We were told they could NOT e-mail a copy or mail a copy of the contract via regular mail. The only way we could read a contract was if it was brought by an installer the date of a scheduled installation. We decided not to pursue and will pursue with other provide. read more

Words can't express my frustration and disappointment in the nearly $700 cancellation fee due to our upcoming move. It was not clear during time of purchase that we would be locked into a long-term contract with such a steep penalty for cancellation. We also were unaware that transferring service would force the initiation of a new long-term contract since our previous company was bought by ADT. While the equipment worked well and we had minimal technical issues during the 2 years, I do not recommend using this service due to their expensive payment models and we will seek out a different service for our new home. read more

It's now almost 2-weeks and I have heard absolutely NOTHING from ADT Corporate nor their Customer Relations.....There should be a minus, minus button. After all these years being faithful and loyal customers multiple times however this last time with our home purchase and what was suppose to be a simple transfer from our daughters home/account in China Grove, NC (we've utilized this method since 2006, each time moving about in NC, never once was an issue) directly to our new home in Mooresville became a flipping nightmare with an extremely over-aggressive sales rep (Toni); fast forward since May our account(s) have been completely messed up f(countless calls, emails), internal ADT billing screw ups to another and another, total of 3-accounts merged of which we did not requests, billing going wherever, late notices being received, etc., you name it we've been through the mud; we've experienced the most horrific ordeal with ADT Mooresville, NC ever in history! Countless phone calls, keep being rerouted to yet another number over and over again. Facebook post to ADT's social media page, nothing. Contact us from your main page, still absolutely nothing (crickets)! Finally spoke to someone who claims his name was (Brandon) supposedly in Corporate resources over a week or so ago (after 45 minutes of push this button or push that button, around the world and back BS, still waiting for him to return my call with an update today is Sep 5th! Oh did I mentioned, we supposedly have a corporate account "thank us for our service", yeah right what a joke, you haven't a realistic clue! We want out of this locked 3-year nightmare, oh ok Ma'am, you'll be responsible for paying the remainder of the contract out, who does this type of foolishness to there customers I'll tell you, ADT Mooresville/Charlotte does! Liars, liars! This company uses every other subcontractor in the world to avoid all the blowback from clients after they are lied to. Please stay away from Adt! Oh and to your recent reply Sir, after the new equipment started falling off the windows, and finding out about the shady contracts I called and spoke to a rep that was supposedly on the Presidential team, who pretty much let me know that ADT would be bending me over without hesitation if I decided not to pay for unsatisfactory service. I will be in touch with the NC attorney general, I will be in touch with my local news. You would think after looking at a company that is representing yours (defender sevices) and getting as many negative calls and reviews like you have that you would do something productive about it versus making excuses. I must agree ADT is the worst home security provider out there. I wanted to provide my mother, who is a senior citizen and lives alone with a security monitoring system that would provide her with safety within her home. I expressed to ADT that I live in a different state outside of the residence state that will be receiving the install to avoid confusion. I made it clear that I will be the primary account holder for all decision on this account. With that said, I was originally quoted a monthly cost of 36.99 for monitoring services until I received my first bill 59.99. I also got an unexpected charge from the tech of 299 for cameras that suppose to have been part of the original deal. Anyway, It appears that the Tech persuaded or advised my mother to sign an agreement/contract for the final sale without consulting with me. I did not receive any documents regarding this sale until after being surprised with the increased cost. I notified customer service of my complaint, they stated that the monitoring service cost increased to 59.99 due to the installed camera at the resident. The initial so-called promotion deal included a camera because of the additional credits which were a lie to seal the deal. I was truly misinformed. The rep stated that I have two options to rectify my complaint, either cancel my 3-year contract and pay 75% of the remaining balance or contact the local police and charge my mother with fraud. this company sent out a technician who not only damaged a new refrigerator but an antique chest, intentionally. id say it was a hate crime but in any event the technician initialed and signed my name to a contract without my approval or permission. i wrote the ceo who pushed it down to an assistant that initially was going to pay for damages but just said forget it after two months of taking me through changes with pictures and receipts! i am being sent bills for equipment i didn't sign for and they have ruined my credit. i imagine that i will have to litigate for damages now. read more

Absolutely horrific. Went through SafeStreets USA, an authorized ADT dealer. I rushed home from work to wait for the technician, as we had a 3:30 pm - 5 pm appointment. By 5:45 p.m., I still had not heard from ADT. I called the main number, was placed on hold for several minutes. When I was finally connected to a representative, she told me she had the technician on the line, and he would not be arriving before 7 p.m. As I was disappointed in the customer service aspect of not even having been granted a courtesy call, I told the representative to cancel my appointment altogether. I told her I did not want to reschedule, as I would be going with a different company. Eight days later, I happened to notice a charge of $99 on my credit card! I had been told I would be charged the activation fee once the technician had installed the alarm. Additionally, I had canceled the service, and they did not cancel the service fee. I had to call ADT, inform them this behavior could be considered fraud, and have them reverse the fee. I was told the reversal would take at least 3-5 business days. In other words, they had NOT attempted to reverse the fee of their own accord. Had I not noticed the charge, they would have happily collected my money without performing the service. My advice is to be extremely cautious when dealing with this company; or better yet, go elsewhere. read more
