Pros: nice front staff Cons: had an extremely disappointing first time visit, as listed below - not upfront with the bill: scheduled an appt for a wellness check for my senior cat as well as a check on skin issues. Confirmed via phone it would be $25 as a first time visit. However they initially charged for a full visit ($90ish), which I wouldn't have minded if the vet had followed protocol and conducted a proper examination (more on that later). - lack of time management: Came in a bit earlier than our appt time, they had us sit in a small examination room for over 45 minutes (way past our slotted time). When I finally asked the front desk when we would be seen, Dr. Lopez came in quickly afterwards (which was not the original vet assigned). I'm suspecting they had forgotten us in that room. - Inefficient mgmt/improper protocols: repeated myself 3 different times on our cat's history (receptionist & questionnaire, technician and then the vet - seems like they didn't prep themselves or communicate properly). - They did not conduct a proper examination - didn't take her temperature, didn't weigh her, essentially didn't follow through with any bodily examinations that a typical wellness check requires. All Dr. Lopez did was show us that her back end had evidence of flea dirt and subscribed flea meds. I had stressed that she also had blood coming from her behind previously but they brushed it off as a potential GI issue. If Dr. Lopez had done a full wellness examination, they would have caught and brought up a bulging anal sac that was about to rupture (which it did two days later, too little too late). I had emailed them after the rupture asking about it and they never followed up, seems that they don't give AF about your pets wellness. Luckily I was able to find another establishment after the non response that actually took the time to fully examine my poor cat and provide the proper treatments so to prevent future issues. TLDR: vet tried to charge full price without conducting a full examination resulting in overlooking a significant injury. read more

The best, I highly recommend. My cat is 16 and still going, so she's a bit high maintenance in the medical attention area. We transferred over to ACVH about a year ago and I couldn't be happier. I've never had doubts about any transaction and they've always provided the best care. Her monthly prescription is the most affordable anyone has offered, and the results are actually working. We were having a pet emergency and nobody could see us until next day or 3 weeks away. These guys squeezed us in for a same day appointment about 45 minutes after we called. The first thing that the dog did was stress-poop on the floor, but they were so understanding and accommodating about it, even though we felt terrible and offered to clean it up. They took him right back, and had checked out his ear, and within the hour, they were able to sedate him and perform the needed treatment to stop his ear from swelling and hurting him. They came out and explained in detail what the issue was, how it could be treated, and what the aftercare instructions were. They did not walk away until they were sure we understood how to take care of him. They sent home meds, had installed the bandage and his cone of shame and just made it really easy to take care of him. I have been going to ACVH for a while now and my dogs LOVE them!! Their staff is wildly passionate about proper care and good medicine. They recently told me about their sister hospital's closure last year, and they have basically taken over for all of those clients too! They are very hardworking and accommodating, despite being heavily booked and in demand in this community. The main doctor (Dr. Rosales) is a Poway native, which is such a nice touch in our little town! The other doctor that we recently saw is SO nice and funny, and seems to really respect our time whenever we are there (Dr. Lopez). The front staff offers coffee, beverages and snacks every time, and their welcoming chalkboard of names makes me feel so valued. This feels like a vet clinic and staff right out of a Hallmark movie. Very easy to get appointments, a clean facility, good attentive doctors, and good customer service all around. The Advanced Care vet team is made up of wonderful people that love animals and you can just tell that they really do care, and the pets can feel that too. My dog LOVES going to the vet, because he just soaks up all the attention. The one thing I dislike is that sometimes it feels like there are unnecessary recommendations or products that cost a lot. My advice for other pet parents is that they shouldn't feel pressured to get all the recommended treatments. We decided to come here because our last vet didn't treat us very well. The people here are very nice! We have taken our dog here a few times already for his checkups and accidents. Its pretty simple. We call in for an appointment, come in for an appointment, and we get called in within a few minutes. They don't try to oversell and everything on the recommended list is explained to me in full. If I question an item on the list, they don't judge and just tell me its something I should think about next time and explain why. My friend and I found a lost dog on the side of the road in Poway. We couldn't figure out where the pup lived. We walked into Advanced Care Vet with the lost dog and Jamie at the front was extremely helpful. She scanned the dogs chip and phoned the chip company. We had a great experience a few weeks ago - our pup had an eye injury and our regular vet couldn't get us in and suggested going to the ER. A friend said that one time a busy ER recommended Advanced Veterinary Care so we gave them a call. It was around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon and they said to come on down - we were there by 2:30 and out by 3:30! You do pay extra for urgent care but I can tell you it was SO MUCH BETTER than going to emergency in so many ways. Dr. Brooks, Ashley, and Amanda were all great that day and with follow-up as well. My dog max DOESNT like his paws touched. Came in for a pedicure and holy smokes was it simple and quick. max was super calm the whole time. Thankfully the staff had more than one technique to hold max and clip his nails. Once they got started I could see max calm down and allow the techs to do their job. Called to all vets in my area and theyre booking 3 weeks out. Did a quick search of the ole web and found some in Poway. First 3 I called also could not see me. ACVH got me in not only same day but within the hour. Staff were nice and the vet did about the most thorough exam I have ever seen any vet do. I wish I hadnt already gotten a care club membership to my local vet as I get free exams but that doesnt help when your clumsy puppy runs into a doorway and needs to be seen asap. A year ago today, my dog died following a routine dental procedure. While all procedures have risks, ACVH was negligent, careless, and uncompassionate when they tried to cover up their mistake causing my dog, Harley to suffer needlessly. During the dental procedure, professional standards for care were not met related to the dental procedure or Harley's follow up care causing her death. On January 10th, 2020, I took my pet into Advanced Care Veterinary Hospital (ACVH) for a dental appointment. During the procedure Dr. Perry called to inform me that Harley's "lung had collapsed" during the procedure. Dr. Perry said that water was being used to clean Harley's teeth and that perhaps a little bit of water may have gotten into her lungs but that she was stable now. After reinserting the tube properly, the dental procedure was completed. We would later find out that Harley died as a direct result of aspirating water into her lungs while under anesthesia during a dental procedure at ACVH. When picking up our pet, Harley's respiration rate was high and labored, but Dr. Perry assured us it was safe and that she would likely improve in the next 24 hrs. Dr. Perry called that night, Harley's condition had not improved. We asked if we should take her to emergency but the vet recommended that we give her a bit more time and if she was not doing better in the morning, we should bring her in. From that point her condition deteriorated until 9:15pm on Tuesday January 14th when Dr. Kaelble called from Pet Emergency & Specialty Center (PESC) called to inform us that Harley had died coughing up blood. Saturday, Jan 11th Harley's condition had not improved x-rays were taken again and Harley was diagnosed by Dr. Perry with Aspiration Pneumonia and was immediately given oxygen via a hose and a small cone pointed at her face. That afternoon Dr. Perry informed us that we should not take Harley home and that she recommended sending her to the Animal Emergency Clinic (AEC) of San Diego for the evening. AEC opens at 6pm on weekdays. Once checking in there the attending Dr. (Dr. Brooks) examined Harley. On Sunday morning January 12, Dr. advised that us that Harley's condition had not improved and wanted to keep her another night before taking her back to ACVH to continue oxygen therapy. On Monday morning Jan 13th, we transported Harley to ACVH as requested and Dr. Perry put Harley on oxygen in a converted holding cage, rigged with Saran Wrap to create a mock oxygen tent. This was an attempt to provide better oxygen therapy for Harley than had been provided Saturday during the day. Dr. Perry did not express any concerns at that time that the "mocked up" oxygen cage would not meet sufficient levels of care for Harley. On Monday evening we met with Dr. Perry again, she was frazzled and stressed and we were surprised when she told us that she did not feel that she had been meeting the proper standards of care for Harley and was not equipped to provide proper oxygen therapy. We were also surprised when Dr. Perry said: 1. Dr. Perry was going on vacation and ACVH was equipped to provide the care Harley needed. 2. She recommended that we transfer Harley's care to PESC which is an acute care facility with board certified specialists. 3. Recommended that Harley be transported via pet ambulance with oxygen. We arrived at PESC at approximately 8pm on Monday evening. Harley was rushed to oxygen and immediately examined by Dr. Svehla. We met with Dr. Svehla who shocked us with her assessment, informing us that Harley's chances of survival were not very good. She reviewed copies of Harley's x-rays taken on Friday Jan 10 and 11, by ACVH as well as x-rays we assumed were from AEC. Dr. Svehla said the x-rays on Friday showed a lot of fluid and damage to Harley's lungs and that she saw no improvements at all over the last three days. This did not seem to track with Dr. Perry's assessment, so we requested a phone call with Dr. Perry. Dr. Svehla immediately set up a conference call. We discussed Dr. Svehla's assessment of the x-rays and Dr. Perry deferred to Dr. Svehla's experience. Dr. Svehla transferred Harleys care to Dr. Kaelble Tuesday morning Jan 14th. Dr. Kaelble contacted us on Jan 14th at 4pm to inform us that Harley had collapsed and that a lot of blood poured out of her lungs when they moved her to the table to resuscitate her. At 4:30pm we met with Dr. Kaelble who told us that Harley's was not responsive. Consulting with Dr. Kaelble, she advised and we agreed that if she arrested again that PESC would not attempt to resuscitate her a second time and that we would leave her on mechanical ventilation until the morning of Jan 15th and reassess. Dr. Kaelble told us we could visit Harley at 10pm on January 14th but at 9:15pm as we were preparing to leave, Dr. Kaelble called to inform us that Harley arrested again after briefly regaining consciousness and blinking her eyes before coughing up blood again from her lungs and dying. read more

I really like and trust Dr Rose Sbardellati. She's smart, kind and humble. You can tell she genuinely cares about our pets. She's passionate about her work and it shows. Our Kitty was having mysterious pain and she has been able to figure out what it was get it under control. I noticed that she doesn't try to push us to buy products and services and that makes me trust her much more than other vets that I've been to in the past. (Our last vet was terrible he was constantly trying to make us buy things from him) All the staff here seems really nice too. The facilities are nice and clean with ample parking. I know this sounds insignificant but there is shady parking in the morning and in the afternoon. I appreciate that because when I have my pet in my car it's harder on them to get in the car when the car is really hot. I also like that they have long hours from 7 AM to 7 PM weekdays and 8-5 on Saturdays. They are closed on Sunday. We have have found our forever vet! read more

I really didn't want to leave this review as the individuals at the front counter were kind but I have too. In November I brought my golden in as he was having problems with his eye, they charged me over 150 for a cone and eye drops that didn't work. I came back for a follow up which I was told would be free where he was still clearly having problems with his eye and their vet even acknowledged that his eye was squinty and watery but said oh well and that he was better. Then when leaving still concerned because my dog was not better but they were insisting he was (he is still having issues and after seeing a better vet I have to bring him to a specialist which this place didn't even recommend) I got to my car where their team ran out to charge me another 120 dollars for looking at his eye to tell me he was good. I said but I was informed the follow up was free they said yes but not the inspection. That was insane to me I paid and left. I was then called where they asked how was his eye and I said still bad they then gave me another bottle of the same eye drops that didn't work and after going through that bottle never followed up and when I called back they were missing my dogs files so I couldn't even get them to my primary vet. While the staff maybe kind they do not have the experience or ability to make sure your pet is safe and well treated. read more

I experienced a traumatic incident on June 21,2021, when I brought in my precious 15.5 yr old feline, Sasha, to be euthanized. She was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, heart murmur and chronic UTIs. I had switched Veterinary practices from High Valley Vet. Hospital in Ramona to Advanced Care in Poway, in March 2021, after the former practice refused pain meds for her 4th UTI since Nov. 2020. Dr. Elias at Advanced Care prescribed pain meds Buprenorphine and Clavamox for UTI. Sasha had 3 painfree months until June 15, when she presented with another (5th one since Nov.),UTI (straining to urinate & only a few drops came out). Brought Sasha in June 16 for urinalysis. Dr. Brooks said he took a urine sample & the bladder was full so he expressed it. He also saw (ultrasound) a lesion on her bladder & took a biopsy. Sasha was immediately put on Clavamox again. On Friday, June 18, Dr. Brooks called to say it appears the lesion is Carcinoma. He did offer to start Sasha on a steroid to perhaps reduce the size of the lesion (the carcinoma was probably why she was getting all the UTIs) but I refused. I spent the weekend of quality time with my precious feline & seriously weighed the pros and cons of treatment, and my ethics of quality Vs. quantity. On Fri., June 18, I called Advanced Care to find out their procedure to euthanize & whether or not I needed an app't next week. They were busy and I left info requesting a callback on their voicemail. Maria called back and I tearfully told her my decision & she replied that I can come in when I feel it is time. She was very compassionate. On Mon., June 21, I came to Advance Care with Sasha at about 10:30AM & called to say I was here to have Sasha euthanized. Of course, I was crying and very upset & HEIDI came out to speak with me. She said "they" were busy & I should have made an app.t. I told her Maria said I didn't need one. Heidi said, "No she didn't" & I ranted back, "How dare you question my veracity!" She then asked me why I was here. I told her and then she started "Grilling me" with questions that obviously, had she looked at Sasha's history (& all the medical records I emailed to this facility from the former Pet hospital), she would have understood why I was here. Her attitude was quite vicious & when I told her to review Sasha's records to know the answers, she said, "I want to hear it from you!" and I was traumatized by her question of whether this was a "CONVENIENCE KILLING"! This phrase shocked me & put me into an hysterical rant. I was so upset, I became incoherent. I was going to be with Sasha during the process but I handed Sasha over to her, slammed my door, locked my keys in car & sat on the curb 1.5 hrs waiting for AAA to come unlock door. Meanwhile Maria, came out to hear what happened and apologized to me on behalf of Advanced Care. I paid the bill & cremation (inflated) charges & Maria asked again if I wanted to be with Sasha & I told her NO because I was too hysterical over what transpired & I didn't want to further upset my fur baby. My one question to Maria was, "Are you holding her till end of day because I don't want that & would go somewhere else. Maria, said No. At about 2:30PM, Dr. Elias called to ask if this was what I wanted, a "Humane Euthanasia" & I confirmed it. She also asked if she should call me when it's "done" (after our phone call). I told her NO. On June 22, I emailed Advanced Care to request the clinical results of the previous tests on June 16. Was handed the invoice along with my fur baby's ashes. I was told this Pet Hospital is a corporation, and I want to send this above information to the Board of Directors but I cannot locate the information. This employee, HEIDI, is obviously burned out in her job function and can no longer add "COMPASSION" to her vocabulary. She should be removed from client interactions. I would like to add I am a retired, (knowledgeable), Veterinary Assistant & a senior. I am still traumatized by this entire incident & Will probably pursue legal consultation in the hope that others will not experience what I have gone through. read more

I visited this place because I needed a second opinion and I wanted to get help for my dog. He had a Neurological issue with his neck and leg. They did not know me and I walked in and asked if this was the door I needed to bring my dog in and that he was having trouble walking. They said yes it was and I went out to get my dog and the next thing I knew they were behind me with a stretcher. That was amazing. Dr Patton had all his medical records and did a thorough examination. What I was hoping for could not be fixed and she explained to me that he was in a lot of pain. She would have worked with him on the pain management but he was such a loyal loving dog he never let me know how bad it was for him and he had been dealing with this for a while. After the exam we choose to let him go over the Rainbow Bridge. The entire team was absolutely amazing professional and compassionate and I have found my new vet. read more

In addition, this place keep recording wrong my pet's age. I requested them to send the x-ray and treatment records to my new vet. I think I know why these good reviews go head on with the experience I had - this was another vets before this one. All the doctors that seem to be mentioned and the photos - these are for the previous practice! Why didn't they claim this page? My dog was having a medical emergency. I had gone to the emergency hospital in Poway (same side of the road), that doctor was just leaving and told me about another place that would see my dog. (I didn't know they were owned by the same group). My dog went in under distress and on a stretcher, he could not walk). I asked if they'd be able to see him on an emergency, Ashley said it wouldn't be a problem. I didn't know they only had one doctor, and I'm not sure if the receptionists are vet techs. It was a few hours before the doctor looked at him. I had records sent from two of my dog's vets and from a third that keeps him under for medications (that vet in LeMesa) that had called to inform him what medications Sparky was on. He's old and has some problems, so he also has specialists. Cars came in and out of there parking lot all day. I think it was a bit after 8, and at 11-something Dr. Brooks came out and basically said everything in the files the vets had sent him and had me confirm some things and told me he was about to take a look at him. If they had said we have no emergency vet here who can see him now, I would have went elsewhere. Afterward, I was told he was the only vet there. This was more than a month ago, Sparky was there until the close of day, they literally brought him out when they were closing. In the end he told me he thought sparky had a stroke. I know from my other dogs and cats, that you give them an ekg when they come in, and if looks and acts like a stroke you immediately give them clot medication for it. Although sparky could not move when he got there - the doctor took two hours to see him. I immediately had my three vets fax records med lists etc. doctor said on Saturday he was going to type up a summary and send me and the other vets a copy. He did not. I have been calling and leaving a messages to get those copies of the summary. Finally I spoke with the woman who said her job was to answer phones, but Ashley seems to pick up most calls. The other woman who answers the phones said that she has no records of when I called and when I sent an email. The woman got very upity when I said I was tired of waiting for this report and if it wasn't resolved by the end of the day I would report the negligence to the avma. She went of the deep-end and told me I was threatening her with the report. I said no, I was telling her as a courtesy - that I would be doing it by end of day. She said she answers the phones and gets emails and she had nothing that I had contacted them. She told me I wasn't being professional, I again told her I was giving her a professional courtesy to notify her before I sent the report. I asked if Ashley was there or the doctor - she said no. She went off the deep end - she was really unprofessional - she was screeching in my ear and hung up on me. Do not go here. The parking lot just for the vets office had what looked like drug dealing and some woman in a van kept letting men in and out for hours. At the end of the day, I told Dr. Brooks I hadn't felt safe in the lot. He said it was a problem and shrugged. I was there for something like seven hours and ashley told me I could not leave the parking lot (they already had my credit card - which they immediately started a huge tab) unless I signed a dnr, she said if I didn't I couldn't leave and if I left they would have to decide what to do with him. I asked her what they would do in either case, she said they'd call me. I asked the difference and she didn't have a response. It seemed weird, so I just stayed there all day. I can't recommend this veterinary practice enough, truly. This past week I noticed my senior cat's health declining pretty rapidly. His usual vet was booked out for almost a month. Extremely concerned, I called around quite a bit, and by quite a bit I mean I called more than 30+ veterinarians in two countries over a span of two days. There was no same or next day availability and I was really trying to avoid going to the emergency vet, not only because of the pricing but because of bad experiences I've had in the past with them. I just so happened to get a next day appointment at VCA Main Street which is near where I live in Barrio Logan. The older male vet there was absolutely awful, but that is for another review. I will definitely advise you to stay away from VCA Main Street though. I wanted/needed a second opinion and some help for my cat. I was lucky to find Advanced Care Pet Hospital and got in later the same day. From the moment they answered the phone and I explained my situation, the kindness they immediately showed me was a breath of fresh air after all my previous phone calls to other not-so-nice vets. It was a bit of a drive for me but it was MORE than worth it. We were seen by Dr.Rosales for some bloodwork and she did the best she could to treat my cat. The next day the bloodwork came back and confirmed my worst fear, that his kidneys were indeed going and I had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to my senior kitty. I can't bear to see my pets, or any animal for that matter, suffer. It's always a heartbreaking decision but this office was so helpful and kind, which really helped soften the blow. I don't recall the name of the male vet we saw the next day when we took our cat in for humane euthanasia but he was great both over the phone in explaining my cats condition and options for potential treatment, and in person, being direct about my cats prognosis yet also reassuring me and consoling me. It was as peaceful and painless a send off as it could be. Everyone here was good to us, every step of the way. I can't speak highly enough of one vet tech in particular, Courtney. She was there for both of our visits and was so incredibly respectful, helpful and kind to myself, my partner and our cat. You can absolutely tell that she truly is an animal lover and she has a great energy about her. You immediately know that you're in good, caring hands. I also must say that the pricing here surprised me, in a GOOD way. I can't remember the last time I could say that about a veterinary office. I do believe we've found our new permanent vet..even though my remaining senior cat doesn't like car rides very much, I'm willing to endure the excessive meowing/crying to take him to Poway to Advanced Care. I cannot say enough good things about this vet! Every time I have gone here it has been a positive experience. They explain all options there early for you so you can decide which route is best for you and your pet. The vet and texts are all so friendly and make you feel welcomed. They really love your dog! My boy is not a People's dog, but the staff here was great with him!! I drive an hour from where I live to have my dog seen by them. I wouldn't go to anyone else :-) read more

We came in last night because my 11yr old dog (lab/pit mix) had swallowed the leather of a baseball. Thankfully they weren't busy and they took care of us right away. They told us about pricing up front for everything. They were able to get the leather out and it was pretty fast. Everyone was nice and most importantly nice to my dog, most vets have been timid when treating him because of his breed mix which makes him scared and nervous unnecessarily. The Dr was direct and down to earth. After this visit we are pretty sure we will switch from our current vet to this vet hospital because they were so great. read more

First off I'd like to thank Dr. Rose Sbardellati and her staff for putting up with my CRAZY cat Mylo. I've been here a few times and they have ALWAYS been so helpful and genuinely caring about Mylo even though he's such a pain in the butt (I'm sorry!) He was pretty upset today and scratched Dr. S and I was so embarrassed but that didn't change her compassion to help Mylo feel better. Thank you ladies for being so kind. I had to lower my rating. Dr. Gordon sold the business. Now it is not good anymore. The doctor did not seem to know or care about my pet. I had an emergency and called at 4:45pm. In the past when Dr. Gordon was there, he would have stayed late to help my poor dog. The new vet told the receptionist to tell me to go to VCA emergency room because it was too close to closing. Horrible experience I would never go back there. Dr. Perry was completely negligent and my 3 year old healthy dog died a horrific death because DR. Perry was not competent. Never trust your pets to this vet for anything. Dr. Perry killed my dog during a routine dental cleaning. I will never forget how my dog suffered and died. Dr. Perry I hope you are still haunted by how you caused Harley's suffering and death. The director of the clinic all she cared about was covering her negligence and was very unethical. It's been 15 months since my dog died and I think about the horrific tragedy every day. Dr.Perry I hope you do to I hope you see Harley's beautiful brown eyes looking at you while she suffocated and vomited out blood and went into cardiac arrest.
