Yesterday…read moreAn Amazon driver claimed that one of our dogs scratched or bit him in the leg, and sent a photo of a reddened area. Of note, we have 3 dogs total, two were rescues from difficult situations. The driver and Amazon requested updated vaccine records. Unfortunately, the dog who did this was a rescue with minimal info and outdated rabies vaccine record provided. We took him directly to Animal Medical Hospital of Poway for evaluation and care. No updated vaccines were given, nor do I remember any reminder of vaccines due. We are in a difficult position with liability. One other of our dogs, also a rescue, has no info on vaccines either. I depend on our teamwork with our vet to ensure all vaccines and orders are up to date. I will be seeking another vet to provide care in the future.

We drove there at 1am in the rain and had high hopes she would pull through, but the X-ray showed a terminal issue and the outcome was inevitable. We appreciate the compassion and professionalism of the staff, especially so late at night. Would highly recommend. My only complaints: 1) No airflow in the two rooms off to the side. Not so bad if you're only in there for 15 min but after an hour, you have to open the door just to breathe. 2) The TV in the lobby is too loud. The people working the counter can hear YOU through the glass partition, but are not aware that your ears are competing with the TV just to hear what they're saying back at you. Another customer came in just after us with a dog whose eye had popped out of the socket. :-( They also had difficulty hearing anything from the counter staff thanks to that TV. Maybe a nice, quiet video loop of relaxing/calming scenery, flowing water, etc.? I can't hear over David Attenborough's voice and that's saying a lot since he's a fairly soft-spoken guy.

This is the worst animal hospital we have ever been to. We…read morearrived around 10:00 PM with our dog, Peanut, who had been having bloody diarrhea all night and vomiting blood. When the staff spoke with us, his response was dismissive and showed no compassion. He even asked if bloody diarrhea was our only concern, despite us clearly explaining how serious her symptoms were. When I described Peanut's symptoms to the front desk staff, she immediately tried to assume it was a seizure, even though that was never part of her symptoms. After 45 minutes of waiting, the staff told us the doctor was ready and asked us to hand over Peanut. We were confused as to why we couldn't be present for the initial exam, but we complied. Another 30 minutes passed, and when we asked for an update, we were told the doctor was with another patient and Peanut was "next." Then Peanut vomited blood again, so she was taken back immediately and again we were told she was next. We waited another hour, and by this time it was 12:30 AM with still no care provided. At that point, we were frustrated and concerned for her safety, so we decided to leave and find another urgent care. We found WAG Animal ER, only 8 minutes away, with the same $100 exam fee and no wait. The difference was night and day. The staff there was kind, compassionate, and professional. Peanut was seen by a doctor within 5 minutes. And the Dr even called us 3 days later to check on her status.

I have been taking my pet feline, Apollo, for only about a month and unfortunately, my pet passed away due to Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Just in the span of a month I was able to receive aid, feedback, and support that I needed in order to take care of my pet. Dr. Cora Evans was amazing, kind, and professional during the entire process; the entire team at Poway Animal Hospital were extraordinary. They made it easy to handle invoices, communicate and update my pet's condition, schedule appointments, and so much more. The team showed that they cared deeply with not only my pet, but with every pet that I witnessed come into the vet. Dr. Evans and the team of Poway Animal Hospital were determined to find exactly what was wrong with my pet and to heal him back to full health as soon as possible. In the span of 2 weeks, they were able to test my pets urine, fecal, and blood. Unfortunately, Poway Animal Hospital does not offer ultrasound, but they immediately got in contact with Stitch Veterinary Urgent Care and Surgery to set-up an appointment as soon as possible based on my pets blood and urine results, which showed positive for Bilirubin and crystals. Ultimately, my pet was diagnosed with FIP following the ultrasound. If it wasn't for the quick and effective work that Poway Animal Hospital did, I would have never known what my pet had exactly and I wouldn't have been able to give him the best possible treatment and support that he needed. I went in for the dental consultation and general check-up, it was great! The staff was kind the facilities were unbelievably SPOTLESS - most vet offices have hair everywhere and smell like urine, this was not the case. I knew I'd be looking at a hefty bill but they broke it down for me, showed me several times what the charges were for and asked what I wanted. Only downfall is that because they're so awesome they don't have availability right away to get the final extractions done. But that's ok because they said next week has availability and I can call back then. I am certainly coming back. They'll be my dogs primary care.

Our experience with Dr. Shira Horenstein was absolutely terrible and I would not recommend her. She…read moredid not listen to us, spoke down to us like we didn't know anything about our dog or her condition, did not take our dog's treatment history into account, wanted to run a bunch of tests we didn't need or want and was overly aggressive with medications. It felt like she was trying to "run up the bill" with everything she could think of and didn't take into account our dog's prior medical tests, exams and treatments. We wanted an exam and simple blood test which she refused to perform, unless we added a whole slew of "extras". We love our baby, and want the best care while not subjecting her to tests and medications with little value. So if you want to run every possible test without consideration for probabilities and potential treatments, aggressively prescribe medications, have an unlimited budget and like vets who do not listen to you, go see Dr. Horenstein at Rancho Bernardo Pet Hospital!
