My experience seems to be extremely different from a lot of the reviewers here. I've been coming here for a couple of years now and have had several small procedures done. This week on almost no notice I informed them that my insurance was going away at the end of the month and they got me in for a cleaning and fillings in subsequent - even staying open the Friday before Labor Day to accommodate me as the last patient of the day. Dr. Scherrer did the work himself. Staff is always respectful to me and I never have to wait if I show up on time. I will be back. read more

I should have checked the reviews here before getting services from this clinic. First, I will not recommend, please save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. I have asked for a breakdown of the bills a couple of times and I never received one, until last minute. I was told that my insurance would cover most of the cost and if there's any out of pocket, it would be minimal. It was far from minimal. Honestly, I felt scammed! Not to mention, the receptionist who does the scheduling are all over the place, sending notifications of schedule with the wrong time, wrong dates, they should re-think of the person they put in the front desk, as she is not welcoming at all, not courteous, just plain terrible personality! 0 stars for customer service. She appeared as if she cannot be bothered when you ask a question or two, as if i'm wasting her time, and just want to rush things to get rid of me. I informed the Doctor via email that I will be cancelling all upcoming appointments because of lack of respect, he did not even extend any apology. Then, they have the guts to charge an enormous bill when they do not even provide good customer service and no transparency/disclosing of the cost! I think that's illegal! Terrible experience overall. I'm not going back here. I also have many friends in the Ridgewood area and I made sure I informed them all to stay away from this clinic. read more

Run, run at all costs. Do not use this "dentist" even though I did not even get to see the actual dentist. I had an appointment at 12 noon today, and got there early and they took my insurance information and I waited and sat and waited. Zero communication. No, the doctor will be right with you, no my apologies the doctor is running a little behind, nothing. At the 20 minute mark, I stood up, said this is unacceptable and walked out. 30 seconds later I get a phone call asking if I wanted to keep my appointment and attempted to tell me my appointment was for 12:15, which is a lie. Unprofessional office practices. I came in for a consultation with Dr Scherrer but was seen by his associate instead. Front desk staff tells me that Dr Scherrer usually comes in at the end of the exam but that he is unable to see me due to another patient's dental emergency and backed up schedule. They offered a solution: make another appointment to see Dr Sherrer (and take another day off work) AND pay a consultation fee again. As far as I am concerned - not coming back. Do not trust this practice. I had deep cleaning done yesterday. I have been in extreme pain since then. I called the practice this morning. My concerns were dismissed as "being sore". I am concerned as I know this level of pain isn't normal and obviously cannot rely on this practice for guidance. Being in pain from a procedure is unpleasant enough without the medical practice that you trusted completely dismissing your pain and concern for your health. No one deserves to be dismissed while they are in pain and genuinely asking for guidance to ease their healing process. I canceled by next appointment and never write reviews but strongly feel other people deserve to know this experience. I asked for guidance with possibly using antibiotics and that was dismissed. the care at advanced dental is simply amazing. the smell of the office is great you didn't smell flouride everywhere. the staff is very professional and courteous, friendly, funny. love love love the dentist he is the best and knows all of the songs you pick, yes you get to choose the music you want to hear during your procedures. the attention they give is immaculate, knowledge, they know the difference between hygiene and injury. the billing department understands insurance and don''t ask if an accident insurance is an hmo or ppo. great job advanced dental, you have a patient forever as well as everyone i know, that is a promise. thank you for the great work that you all do. read more

This is an unethical business. I have been a patient of Dr Scherrer's for the past 4 years but no more! Enough is enough! I'm out!!! The front desk is incredibly pushy to just get you in the door "just come in!" I question the necessity of many of the procedures the dentist recommends. While the dentist has you in the chair, numbed up, he will often opportunistically "recommend" a procedure, "you know, while you're here, numbed up and ready to go." Additionally, it's not uncommon for him to take X-rays of children without first getting the parent's consent. Perhaps his boat payments are more important than his patients' necessary oral health. read more

He had put in several crowns for me not to long ago, and one by one they fell out. Yesterday was the last straw. Another crown fell out, and this time there was no tooth left because of decay. At the time he put the crown on, my tooth was completely healthy. The only reason I put the crown on was for cosmetic reasons. I asked him why my crowns keep falling out and he said to me "I guess I did a bad job". Really, well I guess I just have to write a bad review!! Run, don't walk away from this Dentist. read more

Beautiful lobby, but front desk staff are unfriendly and unwilling to perform standard tasks like contacting patients' health insurance and providing patients with images/data from their medical chart. It's impossible to get anything done here, as they never call patients back after promising to do so. Also, I was once out of town and had an urgent appt elsewhere - they refused to send x-rays to the new provider (simply stating "we're too busy, call another day, ask tomorrow's staff.") I have needed a lot of restorative work on my teeth in the past few years and have gone through several dentists and a lot of money without much success. Feeling frustrated, I decided to try Dr Scherrer and I am very glad I did. He corrected the gum damage I had which was caused from poor fitting crowns and replaced them with beautiful new ones. Dr. Scherrer really is a perfectionist and does what it takes to get things right. His work has been complemented by my Endodontist who said that in all his years he has not seen this quality of work very often! The office is very clean, beautiful and state of the art. I have never sat in a more comfortable dental chair. The head rest is softer and the chairs even have a soft massage feature which really helps you to relax. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Scherrer to anyone who is looking for a top notch Dentist! read more

I have been going to Dr. Scherrer for at least two years. I am very disappointed to have to write a review. In the last two months I have scheduled two different appointments for myself. After receiving the text messages and confirming The appointments I later received calls and texts from Michelle and the second time she identified herself as Lee to rescheduled due to the doctors having a so called emergency. I have now made a third appointment with Lee let's see how this goes. I will keep you updated. So, basically besides finally getting in the office everything else is great! WOW.... this is what happens when you don't respond to phone calls for a follow up visit. ( Recieving a letter from Advanced Dental " I am no longer welcomed as a patient since I failed to follow up" ) I am appalled by Advanced Dental in Ridgewood. Real world - people have lives and can't always stop to come in when it's most convenient for your doctor office. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect form a company. I recently changed insurance companies and due to me not having coverage I elected to still go and pay them out of pocket. Clearly that's not enough for some. Dr. Scherer is a superb and so is his staff. I have been going to him for over 20 years. He is a perfectionist and I trust him completely. He has done an amazing 6 tooth bridge on my front upper mouth, bridges and teeth for implants. Highly qualified. read more

This dental office is amazing. Just walking inside will speak for itself. Dr. Scherrer and his staff is one of the best around. I had a childhood dentist that I went to for over 20 years and after one office visit here, I wish I would have switched sooner. No one likes going to the dentist but since we have to go, mind as well make the best of it. I can assure you that you might actually begin to enjoy going to the dentist after sitting in one of his massaging chairs watching your favorite tv show while getting your teeth cleaned. Don't understand where all these negative comments are coming from?! I truly believe that these comments must be meant for someone else. I've had a completely different experience with Dr. Scherrer. Not only is he a GREAT dentist, professionally, perfectionist and knowledgeable but also passionate with what he does. Not to mentioned that his facility is state of the art and exceptionally clean. I have to tell you I am the worst with anxiety when I have to go to the dentist! When I went to see Dr Scherrer he made me feel so comfortable!! Not only is he a top dentist where I know I'm getting the best care but he's funny & talks to you during your procedure taking your mind off what's happening keeping stress way down. The chairs gently massage your back which is even more relaxing! The staff is just as lovely, accommodating, & friendly as Dr Scherrer! I have never had a better experience at any other dentist office. It doesn't hurt that the Office is just beautiful, state of the art and makes you feel right at home!! The character of this great dentist is truly flawed. He wil trash his patients and staff to you while working on your mouth. He will also tell you his personal finances of himself and his employees. I was sadly a victim because I asked him to replace my shirt that his new dentist ruined. The 40,00 I asked for set him into a verbal assault on me to his patient in his chair which coincidently was my best friend. How's that for Karma My best friend was also the victim of his unprofessional behavior. We no longer go there. It's such a shame because the place is beautiful and so is his staff. I just feel sorry for them. They have no idea what he says about them and I wouldn't repeat it. I'm searching for a new dentist. read more

Dr Scherrer is very very good. His staff is wonderful. The surgeon however displayed an abysmal lack of respect and concern towards me, and his stitching was amateurish - he left long long tails; and he was nasty when I commented and asked about them. I'm writing this review to protect patients seeking a professionally responsible dentist. I've tried to address my concerns directly with Dr Scherrer but he refuses to return a phone call. A few days following a cavity fill I noted the other side of my face drooped. I called his office on a Thursday morning very worried. I was told I'd get a call back from his very confused and seemingly annoyed receptionist. Friday morning condition getting worse, and advised by my wife who is a physician I may need emergency room. I called Dr Scherrer again. Apparently he allows his receptionists to handle medical/dental emergencies. She said 'Oh yea he said your pain is from the needle" I reminded her of the original reason for my call!!!! This combined with rather (IMHO) attention deficits, inappropriate remarks and seemingly shallow and stupid jokes has caused me to seek another dentist after just a few appts with this Dr. This is the first time in my life I've considered contacting a professional board because I feel his practice may be a danger to patients. A dr who has no concern for patient safety letting a confused, annoyed, passive receptionist handle a complex medical/dental situation in my opinion has a severe personality disorder read more

I would recommend NOT going there unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for everything. Also the staff is not helpful in anyway for patients who are elderly and on a very tight income. They push you into having all these procedures that are not absolutely necessary but make you think that you have to have them. All they care about is the bottom line not their patients. read more

So I cracked my tooth cap a month ago and today I went to see Dr. Scherrer. We decided to replace my tooth cap. I am 100% satisfied with the procedure. It was relatively short, no pain and the result is amazing. I am waiting on my new tooth cap and will post a picture once I get it. His staff is soo lovely and amazing. They got me an appointment right away. He is very detail oriented and that's what I love about him. He will make your teeth look so natural! Recommend 100%! Going to the dentist used to be the worst experience ever, after being referred to Dr. Scherrer that changed quickly. You don't feel like your'e at a dentist office- the staff are extremely caring and professional. The service is great and you feel relaxed. Was a loyal customer but since they moved to the new offices in Ridgewood I can't afford the fees. I have dental insurance that is supposed to cove preventive 100% but with the new prices they now expect me to pay out of pocket $125. per cleaning. won't be going there again read more

I cannot say enough about how great Dr. Scherrer and his team are! They have helped me and my family countless times. Dr. Scherrer managed to complete a complicated dental restoration for my mother that another dentist failed to complete for 3 years!! When I got a chipped tooth just a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by to make an appointment, but instead was immediately received by Dr. Scherrer who corrected the problem on the spot. Dr. Scherrer is a true perfectionist, his work is meticulous, and his assistants are very professional and skilled as well. His new office in Ridgewood NJ uses the latest technology. And, as a person, Dr. Scherrer is kind, caring, and very funny!! I highly recommend Advanced Dental Care - give them a try, you won't be disappointed!! Dr Scherrer performs unnecessary procedures to generate money for himself and his overhead, he is unethical and would be wise to stay away. The front desk is horrendous they play monopoly with the appointments to get the money making appts in and move around the less money generating appts. If you go to him you will have a very painful and unpleasant experience. read more

Dr Scherrer Didn't finish work and added on things that were not discussed before hand, my insurance wouldn't even pay for that and didn't ok anything that he mentions later he wants to do more. Things I was not ok with and if I don't do them after I gave him the money he wasn't doing it. This guy put me in more trouble, and didn't do the job. Please feel free to contact me. They told me I have to go somewhere else to get it done, and right away but they have my money I had to fix it and didn't return it after not doing it. They will take your money and not do the job and tell you goodbye and add on things you don't need and that was not discussed ahead of time. read more

I am disappointed to say that today I will be filing a complaint with the NJ Office of Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs in reference to some significant concerns that I have experienced as a former patient of Dr. Robert Scherrer's practice. I just needed to share the feedback below out of patient advocacy for my fellow consumers. My latest and last visit to this practice was due to pain symptoms. I have specifically requested to be seen by this doctor and was assured by the office staff of this. When I came in for my appointment, I waited the usual 10-15 minutes and then was seen by one of the support staff for an x-ray. Apparently, one x-ray was not enough and she proceeded to make an additional four. Upon completion of this, another indivual who was later described as "Doctor's assistant", came in, looked at the x-rays and advised that I will need to come back on two additional occasions to have a crown placed over the tooth in question. I was advised that there was nothing else that could be done today and was escorted back to the reception area to be made aware of payment details and to schedule these two additional appointments. When I obtained a second opinion later that week by having been examined by an actual dentist, it was determined that the crown placement was not needed and the filling replacement would do. In about a week's time, I have received a statement from my dental insurance of Dr. Scherrer's charges for the visit above. He charged me for one consultation at $175 and additional charges for three more Xrays. When I tried to communicate my concerns to the office staff, my phone calls had not been returned. In summary, it would seem that to have one dentist run an office with two hallways full of treatment rooms would yield exactly the outcome that I got, so just using the common sense when becoming a patient of this practice would do to avoid the highly problematic issues above. Further, having a team of assistants of unidentified titles, experience and educational backgrounds making diagnostic decisions seems not just unethical, but plain illegal. Thirdly, to charge the insurance carrier for the services that had not been provided does not seem to present an example of a sound practice either. Lastly, to avoid any return communication with a patient to attempt to reconcile these issues is disrespectful, to say the least. Just some added impressions from having been the patient of this practice since January 2016 and having come in for only one eval and one cleaning appointment (needless to say, both were on different dates). The office staff is very responsive when signing you up for an appointment and then sending a flood of emails, text messages and phone call notifications your way. But please don't be surprised when the practice will try to move your appointment to other dates and in the end, may cancel it altogether on a one day's notice. read more
