You can never get a phone call to speak with him if you are having an issue. I came here with an elderly relative for their checkup. They were told several times that the office got the referral and that they were all set for their appointment. However, lo and behold when we went there and waited an obscenely long time, the staff couldn't find the referral letter the insurance sent and that we would need to reschedule. The level of incomptentence is outstanding. They have iPads to check in but they don't tell you that or hand them to you when checking in. Like how hard is it to hand someone an iPad and say, please check in with that. Instead, we just sat there and after 5 minutes since no one even acknowledged us, we asked if we needed to sign in somewhere. On their iPad, they ask people to sign documentations but they provide no signed copy or even detail exactly what you are giving permission. They wrote that they have documentation available all over the offices but, instead they have a TV showing ads and more ads to advertise their services but yet a simple document showing privacy information isn't available. Then they refuse to provide the document and said the office manager doesn't have a copy available. There is no way to limit the way they share your information. Why make patient sign something saying the agreeing to have read something and then you don't give them a copy or even read said document that they are agreeing that they have read? The staff is beyond rude and most of the time, they were acting clueless. I wonder if they really are clueless are just don't care. The lines are long and the office is just disorganized. After the cancelled our appointment, we will be looking for another dermatologist. read more

I had Dr. Lefkowitz for Mohs surgery. I have basal cell carcinoma. Other doctors claim I would be deformed. Another patient had it done by another doctor and said his face looked like someone used a melon ball. Dr Lefkowitz is very through and kept me calm. I had an appointment with PA Susan Hirsch on June 16th at 4:45pm. This was the 3rd dermatologist I've been too as I have been struggling with acne on my chin for years. Being that I am getting married soon, I was concerned about my acne not clearing. When she came in the room, she was attentive and helpful. She calmly listened to my concerns, without rushing. She reassured me that this would get resolved. She ordered labs to be done to check my hormone levels and prescribed me antibiotics and a topical cream. after a few weeks, I've been noticing a difference in my skin finally. First experience I saw a PA who did no form of examination on me or my skin. Simply wrote me a script and told me to head on out. After seeing Dr Khan I was a bit more satisfied however getting his prescription is essentially a hellish experience. Their hours are not as listed , no one picks up the phone ever. After leaving voice mails and calling over 5 times a day I didn't receive a single call back. Only after making a major problem to the main office was I able to receive any form of attention. I wish I could give this place no stars. Absolute nightmare. The girls that work here are very unprofessional and do not understand costumer service. They are not respectful of anyone time and are even rude and unapologetic when they make mistakes. Very unorganized and chaotic. As I was meeting with the front desk girl she was ignoring me and saying how over whelmed she was out loud to a fellow co worker and laughing saying how bad of a day she was having. I made an appointment on line. I received e-mail and text verification. I went to the appointment and was informed I had no appointment. I stood at the counter for 10 minutes as they ignored me and then told to take a seat. Then the manager tried to print proof of my cancelation and insisted I made a cosmetic appointment. I said I wanted a exam. I waited 30 minutes with little interaction as the manger still insisted she was printing proof of who knows what. It doesn't take 30 minutes to print a paper! She said they might try to squeeze me in if I waited another hour or more. The manager didn't even come out to speak to me. She sat in a chair in another room and we shouted back and forth. I then told her I would not deal with such rude and poor behavior. I left. Poor organization and people skills. Stay away. read more

Have been going to Dr. Kahn for a few years now. Much more attentive than other local dermatologists. Keeps a good eye on my ongoing skin cancer issues and correlates treatment seamlessly with surgeon. One of those MDs where you don't have to sit for hours in the waiting room. read more

I went in to try to get in and they wouldnt take me. someone i knew went in to try to help me. They took me reluctantly. Front desk girl was cold and had an attitude. Twice they have scheduled me for an appointment for a surgeon, both times when I arrived for my appointment, they told me they had called me weeks ago to cancel the appointment, but I have no missed calls or voicemails from them, and I had no problem receiving their original calls when they called to schedule the appointments. Today on arrival they told me they do not schedule appointments on Friday (when I was told that it was the only day the surgeon was in on the phone originally). They blame the patient for the disorganization and lack of follow through on their end, very unprofessional with a lack of concern for the patient or their health. I no longer trust them with my medical care and will be seeking out a new dermatology office for my health needs. read more

He has a very engaging and friendly manner, and also comes across as very accomplished professionally. Avoid this business unless you like collection agencies! My first bill from them came from their collection agency. I questioned why I wasn't sent a bill first. I paid the bill in full in September and now in December I have received another collection notice on that same bill. This is the second collection notice AFTER I paid the bill IN FULL. I spoke to the same woman in their billing department an 4 different occasions about this and every time was told " the girl that handles this is on vacation but I'll take care of it now". Just came home from Kahn Dermatology office in Staten Island, and it was a disappointing experience. I have been to other dermatologists, but this is worse. I am SUFFERING from a skin allergy and this Assistant Doctor with gloves on, simply wrote on paper of my explanations about my allergy and looked at my skin with regular room light. WHAT ON EARTH!!! I was waiting for an explanation what type of allergy it is. Nothing! I asked her more for a solution to another skin condition. She advised an acne medication. Its not even acne! SHe didnt even looked at it with bringht light most dermatologist use. SHe didnt even take a note why my allergy on my forehead looked different elsewhere. Advise to this business: 1. Young clients like me have done research about skin condition prior to appointment. We want you to be more knowledgeable about it. (your doctor never mentioned the word 'dermatitis.' Guess what, I'd like to know what type of dermatitis I have) 2. Hands-on. Even if you're faking it, open your overhead laser-like light to check the skin condition. According to my own research, allergies come in different forms. 3. Free samples wont make me happy. My insurance increased my co-pay and premium. You cant get away from rush service by giving out samples. 4. Empathize. I'm not in your office for a botox. I'M IN YOUR OFFICE BECAUSE I SUFFER. This review is more for the overall experience than it is about Dr. Penrose or Lisa the PA. I've had good experiences with both of them. I don't think I'm going to be able to come back though because of the office staff. First off, I made an appointment on Zocdoc and received two confirmation e-mails and a text message. When I showed up, they had "no record" of my appointment and told me I "shouldn't use Zocdoc." They were extremely rude and dismissive, and made me wait for all the other appointments before I was seen despite showing them my confirmation. As I waited, I experienced the most unprofessional behavior I've ever seen, even by Staten Island's standards. The receptionists openly bashed nearly every patient. They complained loudly about a mother and her 'snot-nosed little b****" who I'm assuming was A CHILD and also audibly mocked this man on the phone. I made me so uncomfortable sitting there thinking "what are they going to say about me when I leave?" When I left the gossip session in the waiting room and met with the medical assistant, she was taking my history and said "it says here you have a mitral valve prolapse and your dad had a basal cell carcinoma." Neither of those are true so I'm not sure who's medical history she was reading to me, but that can't be good. I went with My wife this week to see Dr. Kahn however he was not in and She saw his PA Diana. My wife said she was very professional and patient. She took her time discussing the available treatments and my wife felt more comfortable with her then with her previous Dr. in manhattan who normally takes 3-4 months to get an appointment with. Also making and appointment was quick we were greeted by a warm friendly receptionist. All in all we will definitely be returning for all future needs. The only negative was that we waited 45 minutes which is quite some time for a prebooked appointment. read more

Dr Khan is very knowledgeable. He takes the time to explain things so you can understand them. After several attempts to remove a growth from my son's finger at a different dermatologist unsuccessfully , Dr Khan was able to get it done over a few sessions. The staff is very helpful too. read more

Wish u could give it a 0 star rating this is probably the worst experience I've had in a long time i am a wrestler and have had these rings on me which appeared to be ringworm they did a biopsy which took a long time before they even gave me the results back which was red flag number one then they told me i had eczema and that i should not listen to other people trying to say its ringworm i then went to another dermatologist and they took a biopsy and they told me it was ringworm and prescribed me ringworm medication and i am seeing results already this really blows my mind to know that these people call themselves dermatologist please if you care about your skin never come here. read more

The Dr. is only at this location one day a week, which makes things crazy scheduling-wise, and I understand that's not the Dr's fault. They also schedule multiple appointments for the same time. However, don't tell me the doctor is running "more-or-less on time" when there are people that have been waiting for him for over two and a half hours. 20 minutes is "more-or-less on time." Almost 3 hours is not. I ended up leaving that day because I had to be somewhere in a few hours and wasn't going to wait that long for a 5 minute appointment. There are doctors worth waiting that long for, and this one is not it. This place also hounded me to give them my credit card info for my file, although they couldn't come up with a better reason for needing it other than pointing to the sign and saying "it's our policy". I also feel like the Dr. will rush you out as fast as he can, probably because of the idiots in charge of scheduling. I saw him for a rather mundane reason: shots for alopecia. The Dr. would give me the shots in the areas he already knew I had, and wouldn't even take the time to look for new areas. So I'd go home feeling good about it and then find 5 new spots the next day, which was really frustrating. For me, there's nothing special about this office and I'd rather go somewhere that has both good service and a good doctor. read more

I've been a patient of this Dermatology practice since Feb. 2012. I cannot say enough about it! From the PA, Ms. Misik to the women up front, everyone has been a joy to deal with! I left my last Dermatologist because after a year, I was still on the same regime with NO results! The wait time for my appointment was rediculous, and not to mention he spent 5 seconds with you while being examined. After switching, I never wait for my appointments, I am always taken in promptly, and speaking with the PA is a joy! She listens and advises me the best I think she can. My first time going and meeting the PA, she wore gloves and examined me hands on. After that visit, she is pretty much to see me visually without touching me, but that is ok, there is not much to have to physically feel in my case. Since going, I have beautifully clearer skin and I cannot thank her enough for that! I have also referred 2 of my best friends to the practice and they love Ms. Misik as well! Finding a Dr. is trial and error... not every doctor out there is suited for you. But that also doesn't mean that they are bad doctors. Unless you had a horrific experience where they treated you disrespectfully, or misdiagnosed you, then they are not the right line of work. But if that is not the case, then it probably just means that you're not a good "team" together as Dr. and patient. Also, as of this month, I will be losing my health insurance until I sign onto a new company. Which will only be a 1 month lapse. Dr. Misik made sure I was fully equipt for the month I would not be able to see her and to be sure that my treatments stayed on schedule as it is with no interruptions. I was scared that I would be asked to come to a visit and have to pay a ton of money out of pocket just for a simple examination, but they totally understood and did whatever they could to make sure I was cared for for my 1 month lapse. I cannot ask for more. I highly refer them to anyone and I have. read more

If I could give a zero, I would. Very unprofessional front desk. Twice I was texted to confirm an appointment, only to be told (after driving there) the doctor isn't there or doctor on vacation. Final straw was today. After our last consultation to have my son's mole removed, {almost a month ago} Dr. Kahn said it was not an issue and that the plastic surgeon would do the job. After weeks of prepping my 5 year old for his big boy surgery, changing our calendar around and both mom and dad taking off work we arrive. Only to be told that the plastic surgeon was skimming through patients and he doesn't do surgeries on kids less than 8 years old. Another wasted trip there!! She claimed they tried calling me last night on a landline no one uses. (When they've previously text me for everything else on my cell-not sure why they even used that number) but I received no message. So bottom line- no mole removal today. Front desk girl just shrugged her shoulders, no apologies from doctor, no suggestions on how to move toward or recommendations for other options. I could have used this time to find a pediatric dermatologist who could have helped but now I wasted this month waiting on a surgery that will not happen. Mistakes happen, but this is the third time I've had to deal with such inconsideration. And by the way, how does Dr. Kahn not even know what age his colleagues work with?? He recommended him! I came here for the first time with my Bf and I was the one who booked him the appointment for a regular check up with Dr. Fox. He has Emblem hip which requires a referral to see any specialists. I made sure that his PCP sent one electronically and confirmed that it was sent on the emblem website prior to going. When I arrived for some reason the front desk receptionist told me that she can't see it in her system and only sees the incomplete one. I pulled up the emblem website app on my phone and showed that there was actually a Prior auth submitted which included a ref number and it said it was good fo 6 visits. The receptionist then went to ask another girl that was sitting in the back room and showed her the authorization on my phone. The girl who seemed like the office manager said that it wasn't good enough and they need to have the physical refer even though this is considered an electronically referral and is submitted online. Again makes no sense but the blond bimbo office manager kept arguing with me from back room instead of coming up and helping the receptionist find the referral online in their system. I then had to call my bF pcp and ask him to print out the referral and fax it over to the dermatology office after 45 mins of the back and forth. my bF then got skipped in line because the stupid another bimbo receptionist said that they were waiting to receive the referral by fax even though it was long after they got it. What really baffles about the whole thing if I show your proof and provide u the hip authorization number as on my phone why do u need the referral physically. The physical referral has the same exact authorization number that I provided you with. Again just cuz your not competent enough to see the referral or find it in the system you don't visit that on the patien. It's not the patients fault you don't know how to look shit up in the system. We waited over an hour to be called even though when we originally arrived there was one person ahead of us and then got skipped. Complete idiots run this place. If I could give ZERO stars I would. They're supposed to be affiliated with ZocDoc. Twice they called to say they could not do the original appointment then finally - very rudely - confirmed me for today. I called to re-confirm and they said I wasn't even in their system and they didn't have my paperwork - WHICH I SPENT AN HOUR FILLING OUT ELECTRONICALLY. The rude person who answered the phone was belittling - as if - and said it "wasn't her problem" and what did I want her "to do". I could have stooped to her inferior level but instead informed her that there would be no need to cancel as I would find an office with professional and qualified staff. I've read several of the other reviews and it perplexes me as to how a professional would continue to allow their staff to behave in this manner. The first contact a patient has with their doctor is through the people who answer their office phones. Whether or not the potential patient is treated compassionately and politely is a huge reflection of the overall experience they may have. It has to be inferred from this telephone experience that the impending visit would have been a complete nightmare. read more

I see Dr Penrose so can only comment on being her patient. I've struggled with acne my entire life and adult acne became cystic. After lots of dermatologist appointments with my previous dr I finally made an appointment here about a year ago and saw Dr Penrose. She listened to my history seemed to be able to relate to me and my frustrations and then prescribed two creams. She also wrote down instructions for how to use each with a special over the counter face wash. Still get the occasional break out here and there but I also have been receiving compliments on my skin and never got that before! While I like Dr Penrose and feel a lot more secure with her than I did with my previous dermatologist I will have to agree with others regarding reception. I find the receptionists to be polite however a bit unprofessional in their conversations and tone at times. Some comments overheard would be more suited for gossip hour over drinks with colleagues than the office. But it's a typical Staten Island office. read more
