My son and I went in October to see Dr. Dispaltro. He saw both of us in 10 minutes. I told him my Dad has a history of skin cancer and he didn't check us out. He basically dismissed my concerns. my son who is 22 has acne on his chest, back, and arms. He prescribed body wash and gel cream. Said it would probably take 12 weeks to show a difference, but then said to follow up in a month. Why? So he can see him for 5 minutes and charge us? Then when I got bills for our co-pays, I paid them only to get a new bill for both a month later. Both payments cleared my account before the new bill was issued. Now I've been trying to call the billing service for 3 days and it's always busy. I've called over 20 times and I can't get through. I hate this office!!! total incompetence!!!!!! read more

I went in for a consultation. When I went in the first thing i asked was how much is this going to be because i have a high deductible. They wouldn't tell me so i assumed it would be a minimal bill as it was only a consultation. They scheduled me for a follow up and i cancelled because they again wouldn't tell me what the bill would be. Then I get a bill in the mail for the initial visit of over $500 in charges. I feel scammed with the ridiculously high charges for seeing me for about 10 minutes. I would never recommend them and give them the lowest rating possible. I am now noticing all the other low rating and should have looked at that first. Find another Dermatologist Group. I usually see Dr. Applebaum he is sweet, smart and efficient. Unfortunately I got Dr. Dispaltro my last visit he was the most rushed, pompous,arrogant jerks I ever met. He didn't even acknowledge me upon me introducing myself. He looks at you like your some pile of garbage and he's a God. He spent 5 min and doesn't ask if you have any questions or concerns. Again go to any Dr. but him. He should be named Dr. Doolittle. Never again. read more

I have been a patient of dr Applebaum for a number of years. He is thorough, kind and efficient. He discovered a melanoma on my back at a very early stage. However today I encountered a first for me. I paid my copay by credit card. When my Apple wallet notification popped up I noticed it was $1.40 more than the copay. The receptionist pointed to a small sign that said they I am being charged a 3.49% transaction fee from my credit card company. We all know that's BS. They just charged me a surcharge. They charge you if you miss an appointment. In the meantime, it is now 30 minutes past my appoint time. I am an accountant that bills at over $200 per hour. Wonder if they will pay the bill I will be sending me. read more

Sorry to say that after two visits one with Dispaltro and the other with Applebaum, they were helpless. Dispaltro was dismissive and condescending - sent me off with a very expensive perscription for an itch lotion and the feeling I shouldn't bother him with what he thinks is Exzema. Applebaum was much more personable but too sent me off with a cream that did nothing. A visit to an allergist (Louis Guida) proved I do not have Exzema and from the first visit they were empathetic and took immediate measures to not only get me out of discomfort, but to find the cause. Advanced is a bunch of amateurs. If its not staring them in the face, they fail. A real case of one years experience times 20 vs 20 years experience IMO. read more

The facility was clean,staff were professional and services delivered efficiently. What I found to be lacking was human contact or warmth. It might be  best, if in formal training were to include basics in social skills relative to their chosen profession. read more

Came here with my 11 month old yesterday who is suffering from Eczema. The dr did not even come close and look at my child's skin. Did not give any sort of help accept to suggest drugging him every four hours with benadryl. Told me it is only red because he is scratching. Meanwhile he has had these spots since he was born and they come and go due to what can be assumed are allergies. He did not start itching until two weeks ago so that is not why they are red. He showed zero compassion to parents and a child who haven't slept in two weeks. Now i know why they had openings any time. read more

It.never healed right...itches all the time...went back to hear it would get better...got a cream that did nothing.. sorry I went there.in the first place..dont understand how removal of a small growth would become such a nuisance.. going elsewhere due to this experience. read more

Had a biopsy in October. Received no call thereafter. Mid December I get a certified letter saying they couldn't reach me at my phone number (which they have texted me at several times, so this is just untrue). The biopsy required follow up and excision. Hopefully things are fine, but, it sucks that I didn't get a phone call, and was surprised 2 months later that there was an area of concern. read more

Scheduling appointments is always easy. Howeever when you arrive on time, or even few minutes before your scheduled appointment, it always takes 30+ minutes to see a doctor. I'm sitting in the patient room right now writing this review and its 1:45pm, my appointment was at 1:15pm. Good luck trying to call or email to get an appointment. They never responded to my email request. Every time I've called they are either not open at the time listed on the website or they put you on hold forever. I took my daughter to see Dr. Applebaum on a recommendation from a nurse at my pediatricians office, so I figured it would be a positive experience and went in hoping it would be. We had an appointment with Dr. Applebaum and waited an hour and a half to see him, my daughter wanted to leave but we waited for him anyway. He took off a small spot that my daughter was concerned about on her skin and they sent it out for a biopsy, we heard nothing back about the results, then in following up with another matter I asked for the results. I was told everything was fine. Then weeks later when I was following up about a different visit with a different Dr and sure enough they mentioned that first biopsy to me, it came up abnormal but not cancer. when the heck were they going to tell me! Had to chase the results myself, they were never going to call us. The reason this all came to light was because my daughter also had a lipoma removed by Dr. Kraft weeks after seeing Dr. Applebaum and I had to chase those results as well. Finally about a month later we get a surprise bill from Sloan Kettering and after months and months of fighting with the office to straighten this out.... all I continued to get was the run around. They sent the biopsy to Sloan Kettering without our permission and cost us over $1,000. The office staff told me it was not their policy to send things out like that but it happened so I'd have to deal with it. They refused to take responsibility. I'm shocked that any doctor wouldn't want to protect their patient and use only in plan providers. All they had to do was tell me it had to go for a second biopsy and I would've called my insurance company to find out where it should be sent, IN PLAN. They didn't even give me that opportunity. I had to chase the results from my daughter's surgery with Dr. Kraft as well....stay away from this office there's got to be a better place to go! We had to send a "surprise bill form" to Sloan Kettering and the insurance company then they gladly paid it. Thank God the insurance company told me about this form because the dermatologists office wanted nothing to do with it, they told me to just pay the bill. Had to have MOHS surgery yesterday on my ear for basal cell cancer...I had been seen by other dermatologists in the past for this problem (not these offices) and they did not do anything to correct or treat it. Dr. Leftkowitz and his assistant, Danielle were absolutely terrific. Took a while, yes to remove everything. (That is what you would want, no?) but Dr. Leftkowitz was thorough, friendly, humorous and highly-skilled. Danielle, his assistant was incredibly comforting, sweet and professional in every way. Experienced, compassionate, and such a wonderful human being. Felt like an "old" friend. A great team and I am so thankful I had them. Because this issue was not treated properly in the past by others,( it had gone deeper) it was a long, timely procedure, but I felt reassured in their competence in removing all the cancer cells. Had to have the plastic surgeon, Dr. Singer suture up the wound but he took the time to make the best decision in what would cosmetically look best and promote the proper healing. It was a large wound and required numerous stitches, but I felt confident in his decision-making. Dr. Singer is another asset to this dermatology office. ***I honestly DO NOT understand all the terrible previous reviews..the staff here were kind, efficient as they could be considering the incredible volume of patients seen, and very pleasant. Friendly, understanding and highly professional. A definite 5 star experience for me. Pleased with the whole Advanced Dermatology experience here in W. I went in for a scheduled appointment for a relatively minor problem. Scheduling my appointment was a pleasant and simple experience . Come appointment time, I arrived on time and checked in. A medical assistant promptly called my name after a short wait and another patient (with the same name) stood up and walked with her before I could ask for clarification about which John was being seen. The wrong John took my spot and I had to wait 30 more minutes to be seen. This must be why double identifiers are supposed to be used. After waiting, John was called again and I went to the desk to ask reception if the wrong patient was called. Reception was standoffish and unnecessarily rude and dismissive. Chris, the PA I saw was extremely apologetic and professional. The lady at reception never apologized or acknowledged the mistake, while still maintaining her rude demeanor and attitude. If I could book directly with Chris I'd recommend this place to anyone, but otherwise I'd steer clear. With another dermatologist office just down the street you're better off trying your luck there. I would avoid this unprofessional establishment if at all possible. read more

Why I decided to come back to advanced dermatology I have no idea. I waited 2 hours to see dr. Barazani and he could only give me 5 minutes of his time, if that. I went to get a benzoyl peroxide face wash and a spot treatment cream for acne and also to get 2 bumps on my face looked at. He told me to make another appointment to have them removed. He said he would give me a face wash and some spot treatment cream and he walked out. I figured he was coming back to give me a prescription but he never came back. The medical assistant came back and told me that the wash and the cream were each $13. Now $13 isn't a lot but I have insurance that will cover almost any prescription that I'm given. When i asked the assistant for a prescription wash she told me that they don't have prescription benzoyl peroxide because it is sold over the counter. I've had bad acne since I was 15 so I know that there is prescription benzoyl peroxide face washes but just to make sure I asked the pharmacist and she told me that there is definitely a prescription for benzoyl peroxide wash. Needless to say, I will not go back to this dermatologist or the office at all. The doctor rushed through the appointment that I waited 2 hours for and wasted my time. Now I remember why I found a new dermatologist in the first place. read more

My husband went the these jerks 4 times. He had facial breakouts around his lips, we figured out that it happened when he used certain sunscreens. Dr. Applebaum had the nerve to say "I don't believe you". He did nothing to help with that. Said it was fungus. Gave my husband antifiungals, which made it worse. We found out he has a paraben allergy. AND THE ANTIFUNGAL HAD PARABENS. He also had new disfiguring changes to his nails, Dr. Dispaltro, an exceedingly rude and arrogant man, repeatedly ignored our requests for a pathology exam. We tried 4 different prescriptions all with no improvement. He actually said "it's just your fingernails, what's the big deal?". Then sent a fungal culture instead of patholgy, which we had specifically requested. We went somewhere else. TURNS OUT HE HAS PSORIASIS. Doctors can be wrong, but we gave them 4 chances and months of our time to be misdiagnosed and mistreated. Unless they are cutting your moles or skin cancer, they don't give a crap about you. read more

After visiting the West Islip office on 7/27 and waiting over an hour to be seen because they were supposedly having computer issues, I saw the Dr who was one of the rudest people I've ever met. I had a mole on my inner right thigh. The Dr told me it was benign. I requested she remove it anyway. She did and was annoyed because I was bleeding. She left the exam room without a word to me. The young woman that assisted told me to put vaseline on it. On Saturday, 10/17 I get a certified letter dated 10/8 stating that I have skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) and they've been trying to reach me which is baloney. I checked my incoming calls from 7/27 to today an there is not one call from them. I called this morning at 9:29am and the receptionists said a medical assistant would call me by 1pm today. First I have to say that I've been going to this doctors office for about 10 years. The doctor that I'm used to seeing ,Christopher Byrn is by far one of the best Dermatologist I've ever gone to see. Also the staff has always treated their patients well, the women at the desk and Dani in particular go above and beyond to assist me in any issue I have during or after the visit. However, during a routine visit to gain medication I unfortunately had to meet with Dr. Applebaum. Dr. Applebaum is by far one of the most pompous, arrogant, and disrespectful doctors I've ever had the displeasure of meeting in my life. After waiting over three years for clearance of a medication for my condition and showing results that were favorable, he proceeded to speak to his nursing staff, in front of me ,about how the medication, I was prescribed by Dr. Byrne, was a waste. If you go to see this doctor be prepared to be treated in a way that makes you feel disrespected, and confused . The practice would be better without him and I can promise I will not be returning while he is working. I would be going out of my way to see anybody but dr. Applebaum. Bedside manner is not his forte and neither is having general respect for his patients. Honestly I'm surprise this doctor has not been reported to the justice center for the way he conducts himself with the people he is paid by to gain help. read more

Been going here for years. They detected my melanoma and took care of it right away! I also have been getting my tattoo removed here along with other cosmetic procedures and outcome always great.
