My mother recently passed away and I came into possession of her Roman Missal and a New Testament…read more They were in a sorry state, with the covers falling off but I wanted to save them because my mom had cherished these books as a young woman back in the 1950's. The New Testament was an inexpensive one with cardboard covers. My mother had written notes in it though, so it felt very special. I arranged with David Weinstein to replace the cover with a synthetic material but he found a small piece of beautiful leather and used that at no extra charge. The Missal was re-covered with goat skin. Both volumes were embossed in gold script on the covers. They look and feel amazing - like new books with a whole new life. It was so nice to hang out for a bit with David in his peaceful shop. I would definitely come back to see him for any other book binding needs. He's a real artist.

That is the way most album companies operate, and it's normal. Leather Craftsman is a good album company and most photographers use them, so I wouldn't turn down a photographer because they use these products. When you go to a restaurant it's none of your business how much it cost the restaurant to buy the food to make your meal. When I make an album for a client, I decide how much my time is worth to design and create that album and the client is not allowed to know what my actual costs are. Hope that makes sense!
