The pace is chill, there's a disciplined, not regimented, routine with plenty of "non-surfing", wholesome fun (projected movies, games, guitars, skit and talent shows, in the lounge tent). You don't need to have any experience surfing, or you can be a shredder. There's always instructors in the water that are willing to coach you or you can be left to your own talents/whims and do your own thing. They bring the boards as well as lunch all the way down to the beach for the kids and instructors to enjoy (it's a bit of a walk to get down there and I assume it's easier and more convenient to bring the lunch and gear to them). The boards provided are just fine. My son had his own wetsuit and booties so I can't comment on the wetsuits. I grew up in Southern California but we live In Austin, TX. I only mention this because we can't surf in the middle of Texas (generally)! Meaning, zero experience is ok here. There's no pressure to be the best, but there's definitely pressure to have a great time! And they do! The Camp Manager, Bart, is a fantastic guy from Australia that my son loves. He and his team of chill "Counselors" keep a chill vibe that makes this great thing happen. Kudos to Jason and his entire team surf/kid enthusiasts. In a week of trying in pretty heavy conditions for a beginner and this time of year I never once felt unsafe or unprepared thanks to excellent instruction and help getting that big 9' board out and getting a big shove to catch each wave. I had only boogie boarded before and swam some in the ocean. And the last time I was on a boogie board was maybe twenty years prior. I'm now hooked and shopping for a board. Ethan was my constant coach. We had a small class so the coach/instructor to student was nearly one to one. Everyone on the staff were encouraging and really a pleasure to be around. All the campers were great to meet and talk with, laugh and surf. Great fun. I plan on attending every year. And surfing as much as I can fit in every week.

I have been meaning to write a review of Kristianne for sometime, but words don't really even begin…read moreto describe the beauty of her photography. I approached Kristianne to create a book for my husband with our favorite e.e. cummings poem...she was AMAZING. I had pretty specific images I wanted and she hiked down the beach and and truly captured the essence of each of my girls. The book brought tears to my husbands eyes and shorty after he agreed to allow Krisitanne to do our family portraits. This was a HUGE step for him since he had become accustom to me forcing him into matchy matchy outfits and sitting perfectly still on the beach and being yelled at to smile....he saw that with Kristiane we were able to be ourselves and she would find a way to document our life. I spoke with Kristianne about how Rob wanted our life captured and she told us to make a list of places our family frequents---our list was short, church, home, beach and Legoland. Since we just did the girls at the beach we decided to take on Legoland for the day and the results were better than I cold have ever imagined. When people ask if there was a fire in your house what would be the one thing you would take with you.... the album from our day at Legoland would be the first thing I would grab. It's a perfect picture of our life, our love for one another....it's us. Since we were international travelers leaving the next day, we couldn't reschedule. Chris promised a refund but has been stalling for 5 months now, blaming his booking software 'Peek'. He has stopped responding to emails. If you are looking for a reliable surf school that honors its refund policy when they cancel on you, look elsewhere. Unprofessional and dishonest management.

He handed me his business card and told me he does surf lessons for all age groups. Decided to buy my oldest nephew (12 years old) a few surf lessons for his birthday back in May. Zayd followed through last week when there was some waves. He took us down to Boneyard in Dana Point and my nephew is excited to make this his new summer hobby!
