I couldn't possibly say enough goodness here to equal how much Dr. Foglar and the staff at Advanced Orthopedics have been positive life-changers for me. I have had 2.5 hip replacements and they have been true partners in helping me navigate some challenges around my crazy bones, arthritis, and lymphatic system. I knew that I had found the right ortho when he told me he was willing to replace the first hip even though I was a really big guy. Still, working with him and Jenny Craig, I took off 85 lbs. before the first replacement. I was hoping to take off more but I clearly needed the replacement at that time. He did it and it went really well. One of the big reasons I like working with Dr. Foglar is that he is focused on helping improve quality of life. He isn't operating a "chop-shop" only interested in racking up surgeries. I've talked to a couple other orthos over the years who just seemed more excited about getting me under the knife than anything else. Not Dr. Foglar. I have been with these folks for a few years now and it hasn't been all roses and unicorns. Earlier on it was difficult to talk to someone outside of the appointments. Talking to a human on the phone wasn't always easy. But that is no longer the case. And, one of my other concerns is no longer a concern thanks to staffing changes. Let me give a shout out to medical assistant/x-ray tech Carrie here. She's an invaluable gift and never fails to add a little laughter to my day, not to mention how expertly she does the magic that she does. I have been able to get a lot more "normal" activity in my life thanks to the professional work, guidance, and patience of these people. Hi guys, I was referred to see this doctor by my good friend and recommendations were so good that I traveled from San Francisco to San Jose and never felt bad about doing such trip. Just to compare I was in SF with shoulder doctor took less then 15 min and that was it, that is my common experience being on assembly lines of patients. Dr. Christian Foglar took more then 45 min noy just explain what he sees, but started from structure of knee, history of similar issues as mine, what my problem about, recommendations and what future holds. just had knee surgery today!!! wow...!!!!....wow.... Dr Folger is the best....he could see in my face I was nervous.... he took the time to carefully go over the procedure, explaining evey step, all the odds and exactly what he could do..... I've never felt so confident in a doctor before, not like this....this doctor is amazing and a great person!! I Michael Cintron was referred to Dr. Fogler by my attorney. My first appointment was great I met with doctors assistant Alejandro Magana. He was very tentative and listen very well and upon completing my appointment we agreed to send in a referral for surgery. I called him to follow up almost every day for three weeks. Every time I called him I was notified that the surgery coordinator was not in at the moment and to call back at a later time. After Two weeks of calling I was told that the surgery coordinator Ariana or Dariana was on vacation and to call back on a specific date. I called on that date and there was no answer I did receive a call later that night I believe she stayed in late to handle the paperwork that she was behind on. She notified me that they were barely sending in the referral to get approved almost a month after I was told it was going to be sent in. A few days passes, I sat and thought about it and I wanted to make a formal complaint to her supervisor. Upon calling the office the operator told me that there was a supervisor present and to hold on for second. After several minutes of waiting guess who answered Ariana or Dariana . You could hear her tone of voice was not happy. She began to question why I was calling and I told her I would like to make a complaint but I'm not going to make a complaint about to the very person I am complaining about. I told her I would like to speak to somebody above her especially when she is telling me that she is the supervisor at the moment and the other one is not in. Why would I make a complaint to somebody that could hide the fact that I called in. She told me if I do not like the way She was handling it find a different doctor. And hung up. I called back she answered the phone I notified her that this is not OK I am not being treated unprofessionally and I would like to speak to a supervisor. She then told me that there were people that actually needed help even though I need surgery myself she had the nerve to tell me other people need more help than me and if I'm not calling for something important not to call back. After calling several times and being disrespected and talk to unprofessionally. I spoke with a firm tone and said this is very unacceptable . I also had some choice words for her . I also said i would like to come in and make an appointment with the doctor to speak with him personally. She then tells me that I am no longer a patient and that she is going to talk to my adjuster about switching doctors. If this is the type of treatment you would like by all means visit this doctors office. If you want it will be treated like you were nothing like your opinion means nothing and like you can be thrown away like trash this is the place. I was told Dr. Fogler was a great position I was really hoping to have my surgery done by him but Now that is not going to happen because one front office employee would not allow me to make a complaint against her. read more

My mom was involved in a terrible car accident and we were referred to Dr. Foglar by our attorney. When we first visited his office, my mom was in a terrible state of fear and anxiety. She was worried about her future and if she was going to be disabled for life. Dr. Foglar could immediately sense this and assured her that he would do everything in his power to help her get better! His kindness and compassion really helped put her at ease and reassured her that she could get through this. From day one, we knew that we had found the right orthopedic surgeon to help my mom through this ordeal. Over the next year, Dr. Foglar performed a cortisone shot and when that didn't work, we moved onto PRP shots and that started to improve things. He recommended physical therapy and also to meet with other specialists to workout some of my mom's other non-bone health issues. While it's not his job to examine or take any interest in non-bone related issues, he does. Why? Because he cares!!! He looks at his patients with a holistic approach, understanding that many outside factors can affect your orthopedic recovery. His office has never pushed any medications on my mother and there is never pressure to do anything she doesn't want to do. Dr. Foglar has really been a blessing during this difficult time in our lives and we are so grateful for his expertise, patience, and genuine interest in helping my mom get better in the long term! He really doesn't try to make an extra dollar by pushing short-term solutions and I really appreciate his honesty and candor when discussing the right treatment for my mom. Now, every superhero has a trusty sidekick! And in comes Dr. Foglar's right hand person, Carrie! She's also been a huge help during our visits and while there were some mix-ups at the beginning with scheduling with the front desk staff (especially since we need to get approval through our attorney), Carrie stepped in and has helped us so much throughout this entire process. She found my mom's illusive vein for blood drawing, knows how to handle her elderly crankiness and has a firm, but kind assertiveness with just enough authority to respectfully get my mom to listen to her directions. She's also been in this industry for a while and is very knowledgeable about the other doctors we are seeing and listening to our never-ending drama with all my mom's complicated health issues that were caused by this accident. Everyone in the office, front desk and medical staff are what is very hard to find these days -- people that are good human beings that treat others with kindness! They care and do their best to help you!!! And while there might be long wait times or difficulty getting a quick appointment - there's a reason why Dr. Foglar is so "high in demand" - I promise you the wait will be worth it once you get to meet him. His honesty and warm approach will be refreshing and very helpful in your journey to fix your injury. We couldn't be on this path to recovery without the entire team at Advanced Orthopaedics!!! I have been a patient of Dr Fogler's office since arnd 2016. Dr. Fogler and staff have been nothing but the best. I decimated my ACL and meniscus in 2005... I lived with the pain and difficulty of walking btwn then and 2017 and have had two arthroscopies in between which did not make my situation or quality of life any better! After becoming dr. Foglers patient and going through insurance protocol and exhausting all avenues of pain management, dr Fogler and I discussed surgery for a total knee replacement. Dr. went out of his way to explain the pros and cons of surgery and explained to me that of course not all surgeries will be successful, but that some are successful. He gave me worst case scenarios on purpose and asked me to really consider my options before I made a final decision to have a total knee rplcmt. I appreciated his thoughtful and thorough admonitions and took abt 4-6 mos to think about it. I looked up the pros and cons, how totals are performed, and I talked to people who had total knee replacements, even though I pretty much already had my mind made up to have a total as soon as possible. Dr. Fogler always spends the time needed to answer any of my questions; he focuses on me the patient as if i am his priority with no hint of impatience to get to the next patient; he is always patient, compassionate, empathetic and kind but straight forward. He does not sugar-coat anything which i greatly respect and appreciate. I like to be treated with dignity and respect and dr. Fogler is very good at that. Also, he has a staff specialist who is excellent at helping to arrange for disability and I am in the process of doing that. She is very thorough and specific and has laid out the steps for me. There will always be issues and difficulties that come up in any situation in life and there will be complaints... but within the context of dr. foglers office, any difficulties I may have had, have been handled efficiently and professionally by dr. or the staff. My total knee rplcmt was one of the best decisions I have ever made and my quality of life is excellent. I have no more knee pain and can walk normally again... Currently, my back issues are now being addressed by doc. I am thankful to have the opportunity to have medical care that can potentially improve my health and I look forward to many more years of fun in life. Funny how this business keeps changing names on Yelp to avoid reviews. I find that very curious... The practice has two clinicians: Donnelle DuBois (PA) and Christian Foglar (MD). I like Dr. Foglar's conservative approach which acknowledges that surgery isn't the first--or even best--approach for every patient. I believe that he does care about each of his patients. More importantly, I do think he attempts to respond empathetically to patient feedback in his own awkward way. Although his skill is superb, I cannot give Advanced Orthopedics a 5 star rating because of several administrative and/or ethical issues I encountered with his office and employees. They are: 1.) Consistent lateness. Running behind 15-20 minutes happens. Consistently running 45 minutes behind in all but the first appointment blows. 2.) Practice is known to other care providers (e.g. my physical therapy place, my MRI place, and my primary care place) to be notoriously difficult to get ahold of. The practice runs the fax line through the computer (maybe because it's cheaper?) which results in an inability to fax progress reports to Dr. Foglar for review for quick and effective follow-up. Instead, you must wait for an appointment (I've never been able to get an appointment without 2 weeks advanced booking), get a copy of your chart from your provider, and hand carry the chart/progress notes to Dr. Foglar for review. I feel like it shouldn't have to be this difficult. 3.) My biggest gripe with Advanced Orthopedics: they dress students up in scrubs and have them take notes/observe while Dr. Foglar or his partner Donnelle DuBois (Physician Assistant) meet with you. When I pointed out to Ms. DuBois that I had never consented to be inspiration porn for aspiring doctors, she flat out lied to me (claiming that the person wasn't a student, though it was confirmed my front desk folks and the student) and Ms. DuBois refused to remove the student. At least with Dr. Foglar, when I raised the concern and reinforced it, he wasn't happy but he dismissed the student. This practice of using students without patients knowledge or informed consent, to me, is a HUGE breach of ethics. Fine if you want to train students, but patients should (and do, legally) have the right to say no. And quite frankly, I think Ms. DuBois should be fired for her lack of ethics. read more
