They were both thorough and soft-handed with our kitten, took plenty of time to explain training techniques, talked us through her growth stages and recommended affordable products to keep her healthy and happy over the years. What impressed me most was the doctors' sweet bedside manner and affection for cats, which we haven't experienced elsewhere. The quality of care, quiet comfort at reception (they use Feliway to help keep patients calm), and little toys they send in the mail make this the only place we'll take our furry friend.

Dr. Richard and all of the vets are incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable and skilled when it comes caring for your feline companions. They sell and use Feliway in their offices to make the situation of visiting a vet less stressful for your cat. They also have a cattery facility upstairs if you have to leave your cat overnight for any reason, and though they take them if you're going away for a weekend as well, I prefer a larger place so they can walk around. They do have catteries they recommend, however. Simply, they love cats and it shows.

Dr Sarah, in particular, has been incredibly informative, empathetic, and supportive. Her advice has helped us feel more confident as we navigate these early stages of adjusting his medication. We are so grateful for the care, patience, and professionalism shown by everyone at the clinic. Thank you for looking after our boy so well.

WASTED MY WHOLE MONTH AND OFF DAY!…read more Repeated written requests left unresolved, followed by a deeply disappointing appointment. I attended Lort Smith North Melbourne on 14 September 2026 with Georgia, my seven-year-old sulphur-crested cockatoo, for an appointment with Dr Nicole Su. I had booked approximately a month in advance and arranged time off. My priority was a general health examination and, most importantly, microchipping. The central issue is that I raised my concerns about local anaesthesia repeatedly BEFORE attending. On 17 August, I requested a revised estimate, declined the comprehensive blood panel and expressed my preference for microchipping without the $81.70 local anaesthesia. On 25 August, I explicitly stated that we did not require the local anaesthesia and again requested a revised estimate. On 2 September, I repeated that position and asked for confirmation of the existing appointment and revised costs. These emails were addressed to Dr Nicole at the hospital's email address. I received no reply resolving the anaesthesia issue before attending. This was not an objection I suddenly raised in the consulting room. At the appointment, I declined Chlamydia screening. I then noticed a change in Dr Su's tone and felt pressured during the discussion about local anaesthesia. She told me she would not perform the microchipping without it. If that was a condition of proceeding, why was it not clearly explained in response to my repeated emails? For accuracy, the local anaesthetic charge WAS listed in the original estimate. I am not claiming it was hidden. My complaint is that my subsequent requests to omit it and clarify the arrangements were left unanswered. Listing a charge does not answer a specific objection to it. Dr Su said information had been passed to reception. I cannot verify their internal communications, but I had not received the explanation I needed. I told her that explaining this weeks earlier would have allowed me to consider the options or arrange another provider. I recognise that a veterinarian may have clinical reasons for declining a procedure. What I found unacceptable was reaching the appointment without this foreseeable disagreement being resolved, despite my efforts to clarify it beforehand. I found the discussion pressuring rather than reassuring and told Dr Su that I had lost confidence in proceeding with her. An uncomfortable interaction with a volunteer also added to the experience, and I did not feel assisted when I was unsure which exit to use. Dr Su told me I did not have to pay, and I paid nothing. I acknowledge that. However, Georgia's microchipping did not go ahead, and the time, travel and arrangements involved were still wasted. I now need to arrange another appointment elsewhere. I expect Lort Smith's management to review the emails dated 17 August, 25 August and 2 September alongside the handling of this appointment. I want a written explanation of why these requests remained unanswered and what corrective action will be taken. Based on this experience, I would not return to Dr Su. Clear advance communication and a respectful discussion could have prevented this loss of trust.
