Went in for appt. Figured it would cost maybe $200 received a bill for over $700 called complained no results they lost me as customer.

Went to the Wauwatosa location. Front desk staff were friendly & so was the lady assistant that brought me to a room & went over my reasons for getting a consult. My experience went downhill after Matthew the nurse practitioner started his evaluation of my sinus issues. He read questions off his iPad tablet in a robot manner & got defensive when I told him he already asked the same question. I felt like I was on a conveyer belt......next....next... He was not personable. And when I asked him a question about conditions that sinus infections could cause, he replied various. I asked him again, give me some examples.... this annoyed him so he spouted off a half dozen 12 letter technical names that I'm not even sure if he knew what they meant. Not a fan!!!! ADVENT provides outstanding care. They are friendly, thorough and gladly listen to any and all concerns. The sinus issue I was dealing with was thoroughly explained to me, along with several different treatment options. I decided to have a procedure done in the office which was quick and simple. TOTAL AND COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT WITH ADVENT. My first appointment with Advent was on June 29th. I was sent an at-home sleep study which I completed immediately and sent back. I wasn't able to get my results from Advent until August 10th. As if that wasn't long enough to wait, since then I've been waiting in some sort of limbo the exists between Advent, Total Home Health (CPAP vendor) and my insurance. While I'm waiting, I am forced every night to go to sleep, knowing that my heartbeat drops to 51 bpm and my blood oxygen drops down to 80% and I stop breathing 36 times an hour. I'm sleeping horribly and waking up with headaches which is why I sought out the help of Advent in the first place! So today, I decided to call Total Home Health because I still hadn't heard from them to get my CPAP. I just spoke to them and was just told that "Oh yeah, everything is in place, our scheduler will reach out to you at some point." When I asked "to schedule what?" I was told that I need to drive AN HOUR OR MORE to get to one of the Total Home Health locations to PICK UP my CPAP! What? Are you kidding me? It won't be mailed to me?? Oh, and by the way, the first available appointment isn't until Sept 2nd!!! This is completely unacceptable. I would never have gone to Advent had I known this ridiculous process is in place. What a farce. They diagnose people with severe sleep apnea and then put them through this?! I would never, ever, EVER recommend Advent to anyone! What a horrible place to go for help. I understand that part of this problem is with Total Home Health, but they are the vendor ADVENT chooses to provide CPAPs for their patients. I didn't go to Total Home Health for help, I went to Advent for help. And have been totally and completely LET DOWN. read more

The staff and services where fine but the major issue was cost. Make sure you have your deductible met or have access to a car loan. After a few visits and a head CT they recommended balloon sinuplasty. An oral appliance was the second option but the sinuplasty was the recommended path. When I got the bill, I almost fell off the chair and my mouth couldn't drop any further open. The procedure took about 20 minutes, which was in their office, no anesthesia, a PA and a surgeon. My total time in the office was less than an hour. The bill for that was $48,000. Funny that the insurance paid only $24.000. I wish I could charge $150,000/hour. No wonder medical insurance cost is so high. There are 4-5 post surgery visits. They don't code them as post-surgery, so they are not part of the $48,000 bill. The visits are to remove any mucus and scabbing. Each one was $2200 for 5 minutes of work. Just because they use an endoscope, they charge an exuberant fee. For that much money I can go buy 22 endoscopes on Amazon and start my own business. To put this into perspective I had a umbilical hernia fixed recently and that bill was less than $10,000. That included initial doctors office visit, day surgery, and post-surgery follow up. I was in the hospital, used anesthesia, and had multiple nurses and a surgeon. I can't say that it has helped yet because it can take 6 months to heal. I wanted to enlighten everybody on the extreme costs at Advent. read more

Former patient. Bad experience, will not recommend. You will not be seeing a doctor but a very unprofessional PA, the Billing staff refuses to provide estimates for procedures. Questionable medical and billing practices. Plenty of reputable ENTs in the area, avoid this one. read more

OUTRAGEOUS AND UNETHICAL BILLING PRACTICES/CHARGES. I saw Dr. Kandula for a balloon sinuplasty. It is camera guided tube into the nose that when the doctor presses a button dilates the sinus drainage hole for 10 seconds to 6mm to help sinus drain. The procedure took a total of about 20 minutes in his Wauwatosa office. This is the procedure he promotes daily on local radio and TV. When I looked at my insurance claim form, I saw that he billed my Humana insurance $37,300 for the 20 minute procedure ($22,000 for frontal sinus, $12,000 maxillary sinus) and another $3300 for his physician assistant (PA) to hold a Kleenex in case I got a nosebleed.!! Humana paid him the insurance-contracted rate of $12,000 and another $1000 for the PA to hold a tissue as a "first assistant in surgery." If this does not disturb you, it should. If Dr. K does ten of these 20 minutes procedures per week (2 per day or ten in one day), and is paid $13,000 from private insurance, he is grossing over $6.7 Million per year - that's 6.7 million!! I am a health care provider myself and I personally consider these charges unethical and a prime example of why health care costs are out of control in the US. My own staff billers and coders determined that the national average reimbursement for these procedures is around $6000. So why did Kandula charge $34,000 and why did Humana pay him $12,000 plus another $1000 for the PA to stand and watch? Our current for-profit health care payment system demonstrates little if any relationship between what is charged, what insurance will pay and what the actual cost of the procedures is to the practice. And we wonder why our health insurance premiums keep increasing. Any medical professional who advertises "cash cow" procedures on TV and radio and with seminars at hotels should raise a red flag. Is Dr. Kandula primarily a physician or a shrewd businessman? This example of his billing practice ought to enrage us all. Health care costs will not be contained by the politicians or the insurance companies or physicians like Dr. K who all benefit from the current system. Patients must speak up and demand reasonable and ethical charges and cost controls. I will start by not referring my patients to Advent again. read more

10 minute "consultation" with a nurse who kept reading questions out of his IPad, no explanations provided, reluctant to answer questions such as potential complications, exam results, etc. Got a statement for over $1,000. Good luck. read more

Very, very disappointed. My wife wasn't seen by Dr. Kandula, she was just seen by someone else. My wife has a massively inflamed salivatory gland in her right jaw right now, and her face is puffed up like a balloon. The doctor that saw my wife didn't even look at the CT scan images that were taken two days ago, saying that she wouldn't be able to interpret them. The doctor was very condescending and rude to my wife, treating her like a 12 year old kid (she's 27). The doctor also stated that there was nothing wrong and basically to use Flonase for 3-4 weeks. This is the second time this has happened to my wife, so something isn't right and this facility was an absolute disappointment. We are currently seeking a better ENT to see. I expect to not see a bill in the mail for this consultation, it was ridiculously rude, demeaning, and condescending. My wife called me almost in tears to tell me how it went. Update: I DID receive a bill in the mail. Because the doctor used a scope to look inside of my wife's nose, I got a bill for over $500, $125 of which I must pay out of pocket. My wife wasn't aware that this would make it a procedure instead of just a consultation. STAY AWAY FROM HERE UNLESS THE DOCTOR CLEARLY STATES TO YOU WHAT THEY'RE DOING! read more

I didn't have much success with the sinuplasty beyond the first year. I continue to have over 4 sinus infections a year. My biggest disappointment is Dr. Kandula's staff. You only get to see the staff and they say you need further surgery or procedures done. If you want to see the actual doctor, you need to have surgery. I have now gone to another ENT and saw the doctor in my first visit. My advice to others...get a second opinion. read more

I just want all of you to be aware of the real cost Advent charges. I am shocked at these bills. Simple procedures they claimed, not so and not painless either. Did it work, not positive yet. With that being said here's the outrageous fees as I look right at them on my insurance bill. $23,000 said and done so far and that is after my insurance got their discounts. For the actual procedure of took 20-30 minutes and they actually started with a bill of $46,000 and insurance ended up paying $17,000. Local numbing so can't even say it's due to anesthesia!! Then they say you need to come in every 2 weeks and have "debri" cleaned out of your nose. Your in there maybe 15-20 minutes with a nurse who pulls stuff out with a tweezers and I just looked at the bill--$2,200 bill each visit. Suppose to go back again but I'm done. Very unpleasant experience, staff was great but the prices are outrageous, so I only hope in the long run it helps me. Be very careful, this could end up costing you ALOT of money depending on your insurance! read more

First I went into the Mequon office due to having sinus headaches and infections for many years. A very nice PA saw me. She asked me my sinus history. Then the doctor saw me. Both looked into my sinus. He asked the same questions. I asked if the sinuplasty would work for my problem. They both stated it should help? $700 for the first office visit. I should of walked out then. So they could not have signed me up fast enough. I had a CT scan, and set a date for the surgery. Day of the surgery I met with a PA and the doctor in the Mequon office. While he was doing the balloon in my left sinus, he was using my upper lip for leverage. It felt as if he was going to cut my lip against my teeth. That went well?! I went through a few days of recovery with a headache that would not go away. At the follow up appointment the PA had to write a scrip for a nasal rinse, to get ride of the headaches. That work as long as I was rinsing. I had an appointment set up for when I finished the scrip, I would see the PA. The office missed placed the appointment? I called back a few months later and asked why I was never contacted? No answer. Had the appointment with another PA. Again very nice. Why not the doctor? Told her my headaches where worst then when I first came in. I have never had headaches that lasted 2 weeks. I had to get antibiotics and a steroid from my family doctor. She stated this was uncommon?! The doctor came in asked if I was happy with the surgery. That was a big (no). He stated there was nothing else he could do for me! But he did state I should go see a neurologist? Are you kidding me. For what?! So a very expensive lesson in going to someone who states they can help you. I should of listened to other doctors, that told me it would be a waste of time and money. I hope this will help anyone who is thinking about going to Advent. read more

This place is ridiculous! I went for a consult on a sinus infection. I walked out with a prescription for and antibiotic and a bill for over $800. The are attempting to charge me $500 for looking in my nose on an initial consult visit. I would not recommend this place to anyone due to there price gouging and unfair billing practices. I made an appt. at Advent because I had already been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Never set eyes on a doctor (just like other reviewers said); an assistant saw me at all four appointments. First appt. she said I had inflammation in my nostrils; asked if I was having trouble breathing through my nose. I told her NO, NEVER. She gave me a script for nasal spray anyway and said to make a follow-up appointment. Came back a week later (not free) and she never examined my nostrils or throat. Set me up for an at-home sleep apnea study, then next appt. prescribed a CPAP from Oxygen 1 next door. That should have been a red flag right there. There's a list of rules within 90 days to be compliant on CPAP for the insurance company. Now $400-$500 later, I'm not able to use the CPAP machine, a different assistant at the Advent office tells me I could try a "dental appliance" and, of course, they have a recommended dentist! The "only one that insurance covers." Why wasn't I told about this dental appliance at the very first appointment? Now, because I'm non-compliant, I have to return the CPAP machine to Oxygen 1 or continue to pay (they call it "rent") of $270/month for the next 11 months! I am beyond frustrated with both Advent and Oxygen 1. Slick offices and marketing, but be very careful and ask tons of questions, then get a second opinion. read more

Questionable Billing Practices, ADVENT goes through a lab and a surgery center they are owners of or part owners of. Advent sent our bill to collections after we paid it, when I called to fix it they blamed it on the fact they were changing systems. 2 months later the lab sent a bill to collections we paid as well, called same excuse. Today 6+ months after the surgery we just got a bill from there surgery center the first bill we have received for $700 I called to see if it was an error and they blamed the late bill on the fact they were switching systems... don't go here they don't know what they are doing they are either intentionally messing up billing to get paid twice. I will have to empty out this years health savings account because of there mistake and a bill that was 6 months and two weeks after the surgery. The due date is in two days and there office manager is on vacation till Monday so it sounds like I'll have to pay then call to see if I had already paid or risk going to collections with less then a week heads up on a bill that came out of the blue for a surgery we had in November of last year, I'm sure I'll get more bills as they use the excuse they were switching systems read more

Dr. Kandula performed surgery to correct my deviated septum some 3 years ago. Prior to the surgery I could only breath through one of my nostrils as long as I could remember. Because of this I was a mouth breather. The recovery period after surgery was not easy (as I was forewarned) but well worth the inconvenience. Soon after I could breath through both nostrils and over time I found myself becoming a nose breather. I highly recommend Dr. Kandula and his staff. read more

Awful, awful, awful. One year later, I breathe worse now than before I visited Dr. Kandula. Painful procedure to repair breathing through my nose was a complete fiasco. In addition, now my nose is deformed. After three visits to him to complain [for which I was charged each time], he finally deducted a meager sum [less than 10%] from my bill. Since visiting other doctors to repair what he messed up, I have been told Kandula is "good at marketing" but nothing else. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Maden Kandula! He has been helping me since 2004 with my awful sinuses. In January 2005 he cleaned out and reconstructed my sinuses so well that I couldn't even tell when I had a cold except for my cough. After my motorcycle accident in 2009 he had to fix a plastic surgeon's failed operation to fix my smashed nose. Plastic Surgeon didn't listen to me when I said I couldn't breathe through my nose. Dr. Kandula scheduled me immediately for surgery to rebuild my septum. I have awful allergies and Dr. Kandula has gone above and beyond to help me with them. I refer all my friends and family to Dr. Kandula the "Sinus God"! read more
