This review is long overdue. We took our trip with Ko-netic in mid -November…read more I should start with saying.....our groups idea of camping was car camping, glamping or a cabin. Naomi and her team actually cater to all levels of experience. We hired Naomi and Nelson for a celebratory adventure. We didn't really know what we wanted or how much adventure we wanted (or were capable of). Ko-netic worked with us on all the large important details (fitness level of the group, location restraints, time constraints, our access to equipment, outdoor experience level). Naomi was patient and talked us through some different ideas before we finally settled on a short camping and canyoneering trip. From there, they made sure everyone was safe, prepared and ready for our adventure. They scouted the area ahead of our trip to make sure everything was good. They emailed us important information (how to pack your bag, what to bring, itinerary, weather, what to expect, last minute checklists) as we approached our trip. They checked in with every single person to make sure they understood what we had and what they needed to provide. The night that we departed, they helped us pack our bags, checked out what we were bringing, eliminated somethings, made recommendations on others and off we went. They drove us to the base of the trail where we would hike to get to our camp site. Before we started our night hike, they gave us some pointers, checked our bag loads to make sure we were comfy, helped us adjust and off we went into the night. We took the hike fairly slow and they were patient and made sure each of us was okay and having fun. Once we got to the camp site, they helped us set up our tents; made sure we changed into dry clothes to stay warm, made us a fire, made s'mores and showed us how to stay warm in our tents and bags. They even scared a few bears off that wandered into our site. When we woke up in the morning, they were making breakfast for us. It was so nice to have something warm. They helped us get packed up and off we went to rappel down a waterfall. We hiked to the fall and had lunch that they provided. They also provided the wetsuits (a must have in November) and took us down some canyons and waterfalls after we ate. We all had such an amazing time. The hikes were not difficult hikes but our group was challenged. There were a handful of us that had never carried a pack while hiking. Naomi and Nelson made that challenge fun. They kept the conversations going on the hikes, they constantly kept an eye on us, pointed things out as we passed them (caves, poison ivy, foliage, random cabins). They stayed positive and upbeat the whole time. We would absolutely recommend Naomi and Nelson for any adventure excursions. We wouldn't hesitate to take another adventure trip with them again....maybe some rafting, high ropes, or a snow adventure.

The trail winds up through a…read moreshaded grove of oak and walnut trees alongside a small stream, so it looks like a peaceful nature escape right in the city and it really could be! That said, my experience was mixed. The trail is very natural and rugged, way less groomed park and way more nature path through the hills. It's narrow, often overgrown, and there aren't any clear signs, so you're basically figuring it out as you go. Parts of the dirt path get muddy or sandy, and at times it felt like I was pushing through bushes more than hiking a trail. If you're coming expecting a smooth, family-friendly stroll with benches and clear loops, this isn't that kind of place. There's also no restrooms or marked facilities but more of just a small dirt parking area (street parking) and the trail entrance. I did appreciate the quiet, green canopy and the feeling of actually being in nature. It's one of those spots where you have to adjust expectations: come here for a low-key, adventurous walk under trees and through brush, not for a manicured weekend park outing. If you love exploring rugged little local trails and don't mind getting a bit dirty, you'll appreciate it more than someone looking for a casual park vibe.

If you want a little bit of a challenge, there are some smaller paths that run parallel to the main one that have a lot more hills to climb. Path can be rocky at times, so I recommend good shoes for sure! At a somewhat leisurely pace, it takes me about an hour to go out and back from the entrance to the opposite side of the trail where it meets the neighborhood. Very dog friendly, all dogs are usually off leash. Be sure to bring water and take any trash out with you because there are no amenities whatsoever. After a rain, it's completely gorgeous. Lots of wildflowers! I have seen a snake or two here in the warmer months, so keep your eyes peeled. On the weekends it can get crowded, but I never have a hard time finding parking. Great for families too!

This was a first starting from the bottom area in the palisades. Theres a small lot at the base of the hike but majority of the parking is in the residential area. It's all street parking so be courteous as you are parking in-front of people's home and respect their properties. Entrance is about a mile or two from sunset off of Mandeville. Just continue all the way to the top where it ends and that's the start of the hike. There's also a little board area where it's also a lost and found spot. There was a set of cars keys, gloves and so on. Sunday morning which was quite busy. Everyone working off all the food they've consumed during thanksgiving long weekend. I honestly didn't know it was the same hike as it was a first time starting from this side. With the rain last week, the trail and the mountain area was so beautiful with all the new growth and greenery. Trail was dry which was nice. It was pretty busy obviously at the start but halfway through it did start to quiet up. Seemed like most people either turned back around or did it somewhat halfway. The whole trail if you stay on the main path is about 7 miles roundtrip. There's also the trail in the middle while is more up and down with the hill. Depending on which one you do, it's still quite nice. Main trails quite wide. You have runners, mountain bikers and people just leisurely taking their time as well as loads of dogs. Both trail have amazing views of the canyons but if you're doing the higher trail, you'll get both view of either sides as well as the city in the background. Just approaching a year now from the palisades fire. Im not quite sure if a lot of the canyons in this area was affected but there's loads of old charred trees remaining. But new growth has sprouted out from the base which looked very promising. It was quite nice to see loads of greenery along the trail. The much needed rain was a major help. Regardless of what side you start, it's still very beautiful to come out and enjoy nature. Pathway is wide so there's plenty of room for everyone. It an amazing trail with beautiful views.

It's a really enjoyable little canyon trail located just north of super crowded Switzer Falls trailhead off the Angeles Crest Highway. There are multiple creek crossings, rock scrambling and multiple waterfalls of all sizes. Just follow the creek up the canyon to see them all. Be prepared to get your shoes wet if you visit during the rainy season. Colby Canyon trail is 2.0 miles long from the Angeles Crest Highway to Josephine Saddle.

There was free parking up to the yellow line. It was dark when I arrived, but there was a sign indicating where the pay spots started. I found the trails to be in good and well-maintained condition. There were signs at each fork in the trail. Some of the downhill and uphill sections were pretty steep with loose rocks so be sure to mind your footing!

This trail has an elevation gain of 1,227 ft has a length of 4.3 miles leading to Mission Point. Throughout the trail has no shades going toward the Mission Point. But you'll get to see birds, lizards and vole. I hiked on a weekday so there were very few hikers that I came across on the trailhead. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Once you've reached Mission Point which is considered the highest point in the SF valley you'll have a majestic view of the hills, the park and mountains. Overall, despite its steep trails I enjoyed my time hiking this trail.
