This was my very first wave!
    Ali I.

The 3 sentence review: Great place to learn how to surf if you are a beginner...I stood up the first wave and had never surfed before. Make sure you have a flexible schedule if you want to get the most out of this experience. Tony, the shop owner and surf instructor, is very passionate about making sure his students learn the proper technique to get you surfing right away. Read below for a more elaborate review. PARKING: The surf shop is located in a strip mall and has free parking if you can find a space. PRICE: $100 for 2 hours. This is a GREAT DEAL compared to other places that provide surf lessons...and Tony ended up instructing us for over 4 hours and didn't raise the price on us. Also, wetsuits and surfboard rental is included in this $100 fee. I know right??? AMAZING!! LAYOUT OF THE LESSON: INTRO: The beginning of the lesson takes place in the surf shop. Tony starts you out stretching on a mat. Next, he teaches you the technique for how to stand on the surf board. He has you practice this routine multiple times to make sure you get it down flawlessly...muscle memory really helps when you go out on the waves. SURFING SIMULATOR: What is this, you might ask? Well you're just going to have to try out the class to see how it really works. Tony developed this device himself. Essentially it's a board on top of 2 bosu balls. When you stand on this it really allows you to feel what it's like to be on top of the waves. You practice the technique you learned earlier in the lesson on top of this simulator. Let me tell you...for someone without any surfing experience this is NOT easy! Tony makes sure you practice this until you make no mistakes. THE TEST: The test is to apply the techniques you learn in the beginning of class to the real deal. I honestly did not think I was going to stand the first wave I tried. Tony takes you out on the surfboad and teaches you how to get out into the ocean. He holds you on the surfboard until you're ready to take a wave. Before you know it, you're standing up on your first wave! It's such an amazing feeling and it feels just like the surfing simulator. I will definitely be back soon to take on more waves!!!! Tony is grrrrrreat!

    Zuma Beach!

I came across Tony and his shop while searching for surf lessons for my husband's birthday. I decided to go with Tony because of his AMAZING reviews and proximity to where we were staying at Calamigos Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains. It was a quick 15 min ride down the mountain to Tony's shop. My husband LOVED his surf lesson! He spent a few hours with Tony both indoors on the simulator and out in the water. They really hit it off as Tony is as real and down to earth as it gets--as is my Indiana born husband. What my husband loved most about Tony was his hands-on instruction, his dedication to making sure you succeeded and the confidence he gives you that you can go out after your lesson and tackle some waves after. If you want a great surf lesson and have some laughs while doing it, go to Radfish Malibu Boardshop. Thanks Tony, for helping me make my husband's birthday truly memorable!

With 45 mins left in our session, our instructor- who was the owners son, asked us if we wanted to get in the water since we did well on land, so of course we said yes. He left to go put on his wet suit and was gone for close to 30 mins, the entire time we're standing there waiting talking to the owner, Bart. I even made a comment about how long we've been waiting and he made a joke about his son always taking forever with his wetsuit. When he finally comes back, we stand around for another 10 mins then start to walk down to the water. Bart yells down that he's going to just put the next three hours on our credit card. We said no, we thought this was part of our current session considering our session was stopped 45 mins early for us to get in the water. Other wise we would spent that time practicing more with the kites since we paid for the time. It looks like there's quite a few of these one star reviews so we're just going to go with one of the other two kite surfer company's there since they both have all 5 star reviews. If someone doesn't care about customer satisfaction in a service base industry that usually has repeat customers, then find someone else.

There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said…read more Dave organized my party (a group of six twenty-something year olds) to explore and paddleboard on the Malibu seas for my 23rd birthday. We met up in the early morning in Marina Del Rey and promptly got on his boat, which was SUPER comfortable - like a living room on the seas. Dave allowed us to bring food and drink (and draaank :P) and even provided us with a cooler & ice. Not only that, but when we realized we neglected to bring cups to hold our mimosas in, Dave had extra on his boat - now that's what I call amazing service! On our trip, we ran into a school of dolphins and my group was positively ECSTATIC. Later, we paddleboarded in an area of open water. Throughout the whole thing, Dave was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, and most importantly, extremely chill to be around. My friends and I don't exactly do this often, but we're so glad we did! To anyone who is hesitant about learning how to paddleboard or isn't very familiar with the ocean in general, I would STRONGLY recommend planning a trip with Dave. I can say that walking off of his boat, I felt like I had learned a lot and my friends agreed! Thanks for a memorable 23rd birthday, Dave!

To give some context you will see Great Pacific Iron Works written across the top of the store, which was Patagonia's first store, opened in 1973 in the former Hobson meat-packing plant, near Chouinard's blacksmith shop, which is another product line and name you'll see often in their clothing. This part of Ventura is extremely sleepy so it's very easy to find a free street spot and there is also some EV charging available as well. The staff here is very friendly and always very attentive so it's one of the best parts about visiting. There are many different rooms inside divided by product type and there is even a tiny little museum area with all sorts of pictures and facts about the former building and Ventura. One of my favorite things about coming here is they tend to have some Ventura specific, or limited run products that you won't see in some of their larger bigger city stores. So you can really find some stuff that would otherwise be hard to find online or out of state. I try to stop here every time I pass through Ventura and would recommend to anyone else to do the same. From the start, she was rude, combative, sarcastic, and unnecessarily aggressive throughout the entire process. Instead of simply helping resolve the issue professionally, I was met with attitude, condescending remarks, and an overall hostile demeanor that made the experience far more difficult than it needed to be. As a customer, I expect basic courtesy and professionalism -- especially from a company that prides itself on customer service and brand values. The exchange itself was straightforward, yet Maddie handled it in a way that felt confrontational and unwelcoming from beginning to end. It honestly left a terrible impression of the store and the company overall. After being a customer for nearly 30 years and a brand ambassador for this company, I truly never expected to be treated this way. If this is the type of people Patagonia chooses to employ to represent their brand, I do not believe I will be moving forward with purchasing their products in the future. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience absolutely warranted one.
