Originally booked the 130pm half day sea kayaking tour online. Received a call the next day saying the 130pm tour was already full for the next few days (not sure why it let me book online then). But luckily I was able to be flexible and switch to the morning tour (they gave me a day's notice). The staff on the phone said it would be much less windy anyway...which definitely turned out to be true and I was so glad for it bc it would've been chilly otherwise! They're doing great on the Covid safety measures as much as possible. Instead of parking at the office and riding a bus to the bay, they just have you either follow the guide in his vehicle with the kayaks or give you an address/coordinates for your gps. It was easy to keep up with our guide. Everyone wore masks until we got into our own individual kayaks. Very easy to practice social distancing in this setting! The office was very easy to find, right off the highway and even has a winery right next door (and was highly recommended by the host at my inn). Plenty of parking everywhere we went. After a brief safety talk and bit of equipment orientation, we launched from a rocky beach in Freshwater Bay and went out into the Strait of San Juan de Fuca. It was absolutely gorgeous weather - sunny and calm and a perfect temperature. The water was insanely clear! We saw jellyfish and kelp crabs and all manner of birds! We even sampled a little bit of the kelp haha! Our guide, Chris, was so knowledgeable and he made the tour interesting and really fun! There's even a little cave you can swoop through if you have one of the smaller kayaks! I highly recommend you bring sturdy water shoes and waterproof camera! read more

Awesome time!! We've done several tours in the PNW and this certainly rates in the top 3. Chelsie was our guide and was shamazing! Certainly helps having a marine biologist as your guide. :). The staff at the main shop were also increasingly friendly and fun making us feel welcomed. Once we were on the water we saw river otters playing and sunning themselves. we were able to play in the kelp beds and eat some bull kelp. The. Our guide Sarah was awesome! I had such a great time learning to kayak. She was patient and very experienced. We followed her to see sea life in the Freshwater Bay. She was very knowledgeable about the kind of rocks, plants and animals in the bay. We were given wetsuits, life jackets and booties. The folks at the front desk were also very nice and accommodating. This is one of those businesses that truly deserves more than 5 stars! I came to the area to visit family on an extended vacation, and was very excited for kayaking opportunities on the lakes and coastal shoreline of the Olympic Peninsula. Unfortunately, I was not able to bring my own kayaks here, so I started looking for businesses that might be able to get me on the water. Due to Covid, most kayak tour/rental businesses seem to be closed, but Adventures Through Kayaking has gone above and beyond to ensure that they are able to operate in a way that is safe for employees and customers both. Social distancing guidelines are in place, and they're really going above and beyond to continue to provide outstanding service in spite of this global event. As for the staff, they completely exceeded our expectations, answering all of our questions, calling us back when we needed to change our date, being very helpful in providing us with information on the area, and overall just providing the absolute highest customer service that you could ask for! The company has been around for years, so when it comes to knowing the area, these guys have it down for sure! My partner and I opted to rent one of their tandem 2-person kayaks for the day and brought it out to Crescent Lake. The boat was really nice, the oars were perfect, they provided us with live vests, and basically pointed us on our way. And once it was all said and done, we felt like we'd seen the lake, got some sunshine, and wore ourselves out! It was a blast. Could not have asked for more! While I was there I also asked about the guided trips that they do, and I was extremely impressed with the offerings. Although I actually work as a guide in a different part of the country, I actually found myself giving some thought to returning to Adventures Through Kayaking for a guided trip just to get some more info on the area and have an expert along with me. I know that business is slow right now since not a lot of people are traveling due to Corona, but I cannot stress enough that if you're in the area and have any interest in getting out on the water (the lakes or the ocean, guided or unguided), Adventures Through Kayaking is the business that you want to go through! I came to them expecting good things, but they went above and beyond in all the ways that I could have hoped for. If you're in the area, do yourself a huge favor and give them a call. They're a great resource for information on the area, and are more than able to set you up to make the most of your trip to the Olympic Peninsula! We will be returning again! read more

Me and my mom went out on a sunrise sea kayak with Dylan as our guide. It was AMAZING! If you are thinking about going but are a little nervous, do it!! It was the highlight of our trip to the Pacific Northwest. The company is very cautious about COVID 19 and made sure to wear masks at times where physical distancing was not possible. We also were able to follow our trip lead in our own car to the boat put in spot. The sunrise trip is a must for beginner and advanced paddlers alike. The sunrise trip had calm conditions, unmatched views, and TONS of wildlife. We saw so many seals, birds, and sea creatures. I am new to sea kayaking and but have used a recreational kayak many times. Dylan made sure I was able to go on the water with confidence in a longer boat and even taught me how to properly use a rudder. My mom had only ever been paddling one time on a slow river in Wisconsin. To say she was a little nervous would be an understatement. This was WAY out of her comfort zone. Dylan took extra time in the freezing bay water with her just to make sure she felt safe on the water and made sure to stick close to her throughout the paddle. This was a great adventure and Dylan was a great guide. He shared knowledge of sea life, made sure we were safe and was even our photographer. read more

This place is a RENTAL SCAM - I rented four mountain bikes, only 3 actually worked, and one completely broke apart driving on a PAVED ROAD. No rocks, no nothing - and they want to charge me to repair it? I really don't get where these positive reviews come from - they can't even maintain their equipment! Why trust this business with your family, let alone your vacation. Their competition, four of which are actually in town, won't rent you broken bikes and certainly won't charge you to repair them when they're i the wrong. For real, call Browns Sporting Goods, Sound Bikes & Kayaks, literally anyone but these jokers if you 1) aren't trying to get scammed or 2) have your vacation ruined by a business who doesn't deserve its customers. read more

I was very excited to go kayaking but we woke up that morning with covid symptoms. To be safe, we called ASAP to cancel and requested a refund. Our request for a refund was denied (due to lack of notice), even though we canceled our trip to try to keep everyone safe and gave as much notice as we could. We ended up testing positive for Covid-19. We offered to give them our positive test for a refund but it was still denied. They just said that we should have gotten travel insurance. I was hoping that Adventures Through Kayaking would be grateful that we tried to keep their guests safe. However, we were just given the runaround. read more

My husband and I did the full day adventure trip. I didn't know what to expect at all.. When we got there we got fitted for a wetsuit and booties. Boy, those were helpful and kept us warm as it was 60 degrees! They also gave us the dry bag which allowed me to take lots of pictures!! We seriously had a picturesque day on the water. We had John as our guide and he was great! You take is slow along the caves/cliffs which was super relaxing since kayaking gets very tiresome!! Then we came back to the site and had a sandwich for lunch as it is provided on the full day trip. We had Collin for the biking which was awesome because it was just me and my husband! He was very patient with me learning how to make those lovely switchback turns. The views were amazing, and again, we had perfect weather. Lastly, we drank some of the wine next door!! My daughter bought us the morning Freshwater Bay kayak adventure for my 65th birthday. We went on a Friday, July 9th, and were impressed from start to finish. Easy-peasy upon arrival at the winery/kayaking location--friendly greeters, quick pulling on of (comfortable, high-quality) wetsuits, warm welcome by head guide Ben, clear quick directions to the bay. Once we arrived at Freshwater, Ben and first-day-on-the-job Max had us on the beach, schooled in basics, introduced to each other, and on the water within 15 minutes. Most of our group were from Texas with us the only locals. The trip itself began with paddling through a bull kelp field, made interesting by Ben, a biologist, who showed us a kelp crab and encouraged us to taste the kelp--not bad, and I am glad since it's an ingredient in McDonald's milkshakes. We then explored several small bays where we saw multi-colored sea stars (recovering after the wasting disease five years ago), mussels, gooseneck barnacles, and anemones affixed to the rocks. Birds included pigeon guillemots with their satisfying red-orange feet, kingfishers, cormorants, and of course gulls, but not all Olympic gulls. In one cove, we went ashore and got to do some tide-pooling (found some decent shells). We went out into the open water on the way back. The surf had picked up from the early morning, and Ben and Max were reassuring and informative on how to go with it. The wind allowed us to be essentially taken back to Freshwater Bay without much paddling, which was a relief to some paddlers. As we paddled back in, three adolescent otters appeared and swam out near us. They came right up to one of the Texas women's kayaks, and I don't know, but my guess is that she was as thrilled as I was the first time I got that close to one of these adorable pranksters. Ben and Max were professional, engaged, informative, enthusiastic and friendly the whole time. We were probably all glad that at the end of paddling, all we had to do was shed our gear on the beach and go on our way without having to go back to the starting point. I am sure we all went to lunch because it was a decent workout! read more

FABULOUS! This kayak trip was the highlight of our vacation! I was worried about being cold, but all the gear provided was excellent and it was never an issue. It was our first time kayaking so a true beginner can do this! Nina was our guide and she amazing and very knowledgeable about all the surrounding plant and animal life. For my girlfriends birthday I rented two SUP's from Tammi at ATK. Not only was the equipment perfect for us, total beginners, but Tammi could not have been more helpful. She talked us through technique, fitting and general use. She gave us a map with some options for places to go and we loaded the boards and left for our adventure. It was amazing. ATK did an amazing job on our ocean kayaking tour on April 9, 2015. We had 6 in our group ranging in age from 48 down to 17. Tammy (owner) was very accommodating and informative and she made sure that all of us were comfortable and properly equipped for the journey. He is extremely knowledgable about history of the area, the types of wildlife that you see and he knows the places to go see all types of wildlife. We went kayaking in late October....end of season. Tom was our guide and was phenomenal. He was laid back and welcoming and full of not only local history, kayaking skills, but also geological knowledge of the area. We were the only ones on the trip so it was super personal and customized. We cannot recommend this experience enough! We got to see two double rainbows, otters, harbor seals, sea stars and jellies! There were more animals including a bald eagle. At one point the otters were playing all around our kayaks and the seals were fairly close as well. 100% would do it again and well worth the money. We definitely would advise packing dry clothes hats and your own rain jackets but the company supplies everything else! read more

I sent my kids (age 23, 21, and 15) on a kayaking trip with Adventure Through Kayaking and they couldn't say enough about how awesome it was they went to Freshwater Bay on the Strait of Juan de Fuca). My friend and I went Mt. biking for the first time on Valentines day. I was pretty nervous and didn't know what to expect. They were very helpful giving us pointers on the bike, as well as what to expect on the trail. The trail was full of adventrue, from bridges, creeks, and amazing flora. It was a good workout and even though the weather was not that great, it didnt' matter, we were protected on the trails. Phenomenal way to start the day, paddling along the coves and cliffs of the Salish Sea very well outfitted by Tammi and with an excellent guide, Jared. I normally like to go out adventuring on my own when on trips to new places, but I saw so much more in places that I might not have found had I been alone. Also much safer to be with someone knowledgeable about weather and sea conditions as well as the underwater topography! Wide availability of sizes from extra small to 4x for comfortable wetsuits, neoprene boots, lightweight waterproof paddling jackets, etc. and Tammi made sure I had the appropriate kayak for my skill-level, size, and preferences. Jared even suggested pogies for my hands (how did he know that they're always cold?) and I will get some when I get home for fall kayaking in MI.
