    Stove damage

While the majority of the work done was of great quality, there were many issues with the project, including: Original project plan was not completed to our satisfaction (e.g., double trash cans in pullout drawer, wall table, kitchen cabinets were painted gray instead of white (although we ended up liking the gray and keeping the cabinets that color)), painted versus tiled bathroom walls, even though we had ordered enough tile to tile all walls in both bathrooms. The Project Manager (PM) blamed their mistake on us and our designer and charged us an additional $4800 to tile bathroom walls (although they eventually agreed to take $1800 off that amount). No one informed us that there was a new PM, and she did not contact us until later In the project via text. She consistently blamed the majority of issues on cheap products (e.g., why vanity drawers were crooked/ cracked). We also found out about some unsavory business practices by the PM, including, making up stuff that never happened, misstating facts, outright misleading us and vendors, and consistently saying things such as, "It is not my fault." "Our company isn't making money on this." "That was already there (as in damage caused due to things they did)." "I was there every day and didn't see that." The PM was definitely not here every day. Most issues we brought up to her were deflected and/or blamed on others; no accountability or ownership, throwing workers and her boss under the bus. No one from the company informed us that when they removed the original vanity from the Master Bathroom, and it flooded the Master bedroom, closet, and a portion of the Living Room floor. We had to contact them after our Building Manager sent us pictures of all the water on the floor. Put guest shower accent tile in wrong, then hand placed them in an amateurish way and told us there was nothing they could do about it since the rest of the tile was already in place. While the majority of the workers were amazing, other workers ignored the Building Manager's instructions on where to cut tile (which resulted in grout in bathroom drains), where to clean tools, disposal of concrete, etc. While they did fix a lot of the issues (some better than others), the Owner said he's done with all this and asked us why we would call him about a plumbing issue after his plumber left waste/feces in the guest shower floor, shower panel, accent tile, and walls. Then he texted us, telling us he would send someone over to clean it, but would not reseal the shower floor. Also, toilet was rocking and side piece was missing after plumber left. He did send a worker over to fix it. Got hit with a $17,000 bill at end of project. The PM kept telling us that certain things were not in the initial contract; yet only sent us one official Change Order (which we signed) and held us responsible for other changes they made, which we did not sign-off on. Rather than explaining why they did not issue other Change Orders for us to sign-off on prior to project completion, the response was, "We normally do." Part of the final bill was for installation of two curved pieces of glass for the bathrooms, and replacement of a jalousie window. There was no quote or sign-off, rather they just had the glass installed and gave us the $5,600 bill and were told to settle up with the glass company. Delayed project due to several staff members testing positive for COVID, and again after our return to the island. We had to stay in a hotel until we were allowed to move back in, yet they made us pay a portion of hotel stay. We tried to fairly negotiate the final number, and we were told they did a lot of smaller things throughout the project, yet wouldn't tell us what those things were. We were told that certain things were done at their cost and they did not charge for labor, etc. When told about certain issues (e.g.; warped pocket door, scratches on kitchen flooring, electrical outlet covers being crooked, etc.), we were told there's nothing they could do about it. We were told the kitchen floor we chose looked cheap and was difficult to install due to only a couple of gallows of the grout needed being on island. They switched the tile out and then only credited us approximately 1/4 of the cost we paid. They also scuffed/scratched the new stove and got something on one of the knobs; we were told there was nothing they could do about it. We finally stopped negotiating just so we would not have to deal with the company anymore. If you choose this company for a renovation, make sure you get everything in the final contract, including exact measurements, etc.) before letting the work commence. No

The fraudulent invoicing and fake charges continue…read more I wrote to the Regulated Industries Complaint Office (RICO) on the fraudulent invoicing of charges we never knew we owed. RICO responded that Valley Isle Builders has decided to write off the debt and they have no intention of pursuing the collections process. However Lars Bertelsen the president of the company would like me to remove the negative comments on Yelp. 1) This is a debt we never owed because it was never communicated to us there was extra charge of a travel fee on top of a service fee so "writing off a debt" the customer was never made aware of is a moot point. Lars is not doing us any favors. 2) Yelp is a consumer review site and Maui consumers deserve to know how Valley Isle operates with fraudulent billing practices. 3) Today, on June 1st, we received yet another invoice with finance charges on top of the "debt" we owe. Please see attached images for clarity and transparency purposes. You truly cannot make this stuff up. These people are a joke.

Absolute utter garbage. Owe me thousands, have sent invoices since they say I have to do THEIR…read moreaccounting for them. THEY ARE THIEVES, hire un-skilled, unlicensed people and bill fake hours. Totally incompetent and unprofessional. Made RICO complaint and also SUING THEM. They are CRAZY and will make threats back to you. Do yourself a favor and RUN THE OTHER WAY before hiring them to tie your shoe.
