Worst customer support ever! Still waiting for them to replace the defective battery they installed at my home in Kihei.

Back in September 2023 reported issue of Tesla Powerwall+ not working correctly. The issue is during daylight hours the battery will switch over to standby mode where we do not have use of energy until dark (about 6pm) For instance if we charge car or use dryer during the day solar energy may only provide 50% of energy needed it should pull remaining energy needed from battery but instead it pulls from the grid. This is when the battery is at 100%. Two separate occasions Sep-Dec 2023 Haleakala Solar came out and attempted repairs. Throughout this time I reported approximately 20 to 30 emails with screenshots documenting issue and that issue was still occurring I contacted battery bonus program to see if this could be an issue. And also to cancel the installation of program since Haleakala Solar never provided HECO proper documentation for HECO to validate data.. I had to fill out a form send it in to get this program canceled since Haleakala Solar wouldn't. In December President Jim Whitcomb during phone call even admitted that Haleakala failed on their part getting the battery bonus program working and lack of service he assured me they would get it working. I asked Haleakala Solar several times could this issue be related to Battery program that was never successfully hooked up and I was assuring no. Contacted Tesla after several long 15 to 20 minute phone calls with them plus numerous emails documenting issue back and forth. As of early December it's in Tesla Tier two tech support and their recommendation December 24, 2023 was "Further your advanced settings need to be changed to export everything as opposed to solar only. Please go to settings, powerwall scroll down to advanced settings, permission to export to change the setting. Which I emailed to Haleakala Solar and they never came out to try. In late December conference call with Jim Whitcomb president and Mokihana Techical Lead at Haleakala Solar sent him screenshots of issue. Mokihana guessed it was low internet signal and they were to install a booster. I sent him Tesla's recommendation. They never came out to try either fix. From December to Feb to sent emails to Haleakala Solar documenting issue still occurring. And my new strategy was to find another solar company and bill Haleakala for its repair. Several companies didn't want to get involved in another's mess. 2/14/24 Filed BBB complaint which they said responded "We are working on finding a solution to what is happening with the battery at Mr. Taylors house. I will contact out head electrician and the owner and see when the soonest we can get out there will be. " 2/23/24 Filed compliant with State of Hawaii DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS 3/1/24 Sent Haleakala Solar a registered letter including a demand to repair within 14 days or face legal action for breach of warranty. Needless to say I'm sure when this is resolved I will never get any help from Haleakala Solar on any warranty service. Its worth it though letting everyone know our experience with Haleakala Solar's unbelievably poor service. read more

Haleakala Solar recently completed a new solar hot water system for our condo development. We were very grateful they were willing to take on this complex task for a price our little development (18 units) could afford. Our electricity bills have come down by 30 percent, even in winter. The entire project took six months from beginning to end, which is very reasonable for a multistory residential building. We enjoyed working with Haleakala employees and love our new system. read more

I have had a long relationship with Haleakala Solar and Roofing. I purchased a solar panel system for my Kihei home several years ago. The installation was quick and professional. Their employees are courteous, the installation and service personnel were very knowledgeable and efficient. Even the office staff is very professional, they always return my calls promptly and attend to any concerns or questions that I may have. I later purchased a new roof which was installed by Haleakala Solar and Roofing. A new solar hot water system with a panel was also purchased at the same time. I highly recommend Haleakala Solar to anyone wanting a quality product and great service. My electric bill is now almost non-existent and I couldn't be happier! Great value! read more

At the time they were the most reasonable in pricing and very efficient and professional. they were quick to install. everything is working perfectly and have not a need for them to come out and troubleshoot the system. I would highly recommend their service. read more

Called them twice and left messages to see if they could help us, no response. Left messages on their online form for service, no response. Sadly, I've contacted them because of references and they surely haven't lived up to the what people have said. I'm beginning to think that people share this company because that might be the only company they've tried. They probably have enough business, don't need anymore. The one star is probably because I was able to leave a voicemail and they have a website. read more

I trusted Haleakala Solar with a large PV installation (over 50 panels) a couple of years ago, choosing them over two other bids. I was assured the system would work in a certain way, with very clear and detailed descriptions from the sales agent. The details of this are not important for the review, but suffice it to say that I found out I had been conned when I was trying to sell my home a couple of months ago. I was informed by Haleakala's own staff that the system was not functioning as promised and that I had been lied to about how it would function in order to close a sale quickly. This was after the company assured me just two weeks earlier that it was functioning exactly as I had been told (this was the second lie from the company with the first being when it was installed). I attempted to contact the company on three separate occasions with no call backs until someone emailed me to advise that it was a problem with my inverter, the first I heard of such, and odd since the actual engineer told me the inverter was working (this was lie #3). I was then promised a review with an engineer/technician on Monday of this week, and three days later, no word (lie #4). May my experience of dishonesty and thievery from this company inform others as I am out of a lot of money that I will never recoup. They clearly have no intention on making this right given the lack of correspondence from the company and ongoing lies about what is actually happening. Literally go anywhere else unless you like having your money fly out of your bank account for no good reason. And if you do go with Haleakala Solar, please make sure an actual independent electrical engineer reviews the plans. Don't trust what they have to tell you unless you are one yourself. read more

Recently installed a Tesla battery with Haleakala Solar. We had a great working experience with Ted Grupenhoff, senior solar and roofing consultant and Cryschelle Belena, project coordinator, Maui. Both responded quickly to questions and concerns. After the installation, they followed up to ensure we were satisfied with the work. We would be happy to work with them again if another opportunity arises to use Haleakala Solar services. read more

do not do business with this company. we had them install a system August 2023. One month after the install, production dropped dramatically. Then in November 2023, my monitoring app kept indicating errors. Eventually on December 25, 2023 the entire solar system tripped the fuse, worse, tripped the main HECO box and sparks flex. Once the company decided to come out, Jan 4. 2024 they claimed it was a bad inverter and needed to be swapped out. Tesla, the Manufacture ran tests and the inverter was reported as perfectly fine. No communication with me on what was going on....kept reaching out, most of the time they just flat ignored the efforts. They came back out, AFTER I contacted the finance department, although the finance company indicated that they had been there the day before. THEY LIED. No one came out the day they said. Once I informed the Finance Company, miraculously they should up that day...no call no nothing just showed. Went on the roof, explained to me that Tesla told they this was an Installer Wiring Issue, not the inverter. That day, they found 5 defective connectors (MCA) on the roofs. Stated they replaced them. Attempted to turn on system....nope blow circuits again. They again said it was the inverter, Tesla disagreed, again. It has now been 28 days since the system has been dead and i am paying for HECO $500 and Finance Company: Dividend $400 per month! Worst company, service, communication on my life. I now need to file a lawsuit. This is pathetic. read more

We wanted to reroof our house, and in the process, add insulation to a ceiling where there was none. Checking local roofing contractors, we noticed Haleakala Solar had expanded their services into the roofing business. We had previously used Haleakala Solar to design and construct a solar carport for us, and were very happy with their performance then, so we called them out for a consultation. They recommended installing a 2x4 grid structure on top of the existing roof, filling the space with closed-cell insulation, adding a radiant barrier, and putting on a new roof deck and shingles. Said they had sucessfully done this before, so we placed a contract with them. They were out in a few weeks with the materials and went to work. It was a big job for a small house, but they completed it in 6 working days. I have to say they were very professional and did a fantastic job. The ceiling temperature, measured with an infrared thermometer, dropped by about 15 degrees. Our house is so much more comfortable now, I wish we had done this years ago! read more

Haleakala Solar put on a new roof for us two years ago. Ted and the team advised us on what type of roof was best for us. Everyone there is very knowledgable. They've Obviously been doing this a while. during installation they were very reliable andDid an excellent job. I would highly recommend them for a roof, or solar system.
