While I cannot claim to know the business model, it seemed at each spot, our tour leader was paying the vendor for the food we ate. We went to a number of stops, from the cake boss to pizza to delis to chocolate. All were delicious, and enough food to last a day. My favorite was Lisa's deli, where we watched them actually make mozzarella. There was also a good mix of Hoboken history, from old factories, to Frank Sinatra's birth place. Definitely wear your walking shoes, and skip lunch before so you can enjoy each and every sample.

Absolutely LOVED this tour!…read more I read about it recently as it was mentioned in O Magazine which is Oprah Winfrey's Magazine and I knew that I HAD to do a short trip from Chicago to NYC to take this signature and insightful tour lead by Professor Andrew Lear! Dr. Lear is the Founder and Master Guide of the Shady Lady Tours and is a leading scholar in the area of the history of sexuality. There were seven people in my group and we met at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in front of the Giant Pharaoh in the main lobby. Dr. Lear then distributed the entrance tickets and the Nasty Women of the MET Tour commenced. The Nasty Women of the MET focuses on the "[f]eisty, path-breaking women--women who had more power and/or independence than we usually think women in the past had." (According to Dr. Lear's Web Site). I saw many works of art that I probably would not have spent a lot of time exploring on my own..but Dr. Lear provided "the backstory" of each painting, sculpture, vessel, statue, and cultural artifacts that were explored. I have to admit that my favorites included the Gertrude Stein painting in which she was painted by Pablo Picasso and it took about 90 sittings to complete! I find her intriguing. I also was fascinated by the Female Pharaoh Hatshepsut of Egypt who ruled 1500 years before Cleopatra....in the Egyptian Wing. Hatshepsut's statue shows her dressed in female attire, "[b]ut she wears the nemes headcloth, a royal attribute usually reserved for the reigning king." (As listed in the MET's formal description of her statue sitting on the throne). The final stop was the John Singer Sargent portrait of a young woman Edith Minturn from the mid 1860s. While the artist's choice was a request that Ms. Minturn dress in an evening gown during the sitting she showed up in a two piece outfit in which her skirt did not touch the floor-but her shoes were readily seen. Her husband stands behind her and she smiles vibrantly as if she "knows" that she has clout, class, and authority as well as individuality. FYI-her husband stood in for Ms. Minturn's Great Dane when the dog became unavailable to sit for the portrait. The stories and featured art that is/was explored on this tour were exceptional and as diverse as the "Nasty Women" that were peppered throughout the MET. I would like to return to attend the "Shady Lady Tour." Truly impressive tour, well paced (2 hours) with an entertaining and educational experience provided by Dr. Lear.

I say this as someone who doesn't really like art, but does in the way that he teaches it. It's amazing to me hearing about who the paintings or sculptures are actually of and the story that goes with them. Cool tidbit: The goddess Aphrodite was supposed to be executed but her lawyer pulled her top off exposing her boobs and then they acquitted her LOL. The Paris tour looks amazing as well but don't think I would ever be able to do it. In any case, if you want to go to the MET because you feel that you should but find art zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, take this tour. Two hours of showing you interesting pieces. I decided to take a break and head to Atlantic City for a good 2 day rest. I've been getting all…read morethese discount and complimentary coupons at almost all the hotels there....Trump Plaza....Bally's....Harrahs...for months....only to be thrown away ...wasted. as....I can't seem to squeeze it in my busy schedule...too many priorities to take care of....and .Nashad is always tied up with his job......and I didn't have any plans for a trip until now.....felt like playing the casinos....and checking out all the restaurants inside and outside the casinos.... .... .. Stayed at the famous newly renovated Caesars .....Centurion Tower...44th Floor facing the ocean......what a view!!!! It's all I need...after unpacking....freshen up...went to the boardwalk and walked to Showboat..... to the Tropicana....that's a good long walk......stopping and taking a rest on the benches along the way. Stopped at the Bikini Bar along the ocean for a drink and continued my leisurely walk until i got tired ...went back to the hotel ....watch TV then tried my luck at the machines........... Woke up early at 6:00 ...freshen up and did my walk again...this time took another route to Borgata......that famous newest "kid" on the block.....a very imposing facade.......what a place it was.....Whew !!!!It's beautiful.....check out the casino lobby....very impressive....You'll also find 2 of the most famous chefs restaurant in house......Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay.....whipping out their culinary expertise in every recipe they create....then there is Isakaya...a modern Japanese pub that defies comparison...Extrordinary sushi, sake & robatayaki served in a sendual yet comtemporary atmosphere....there were alot of eateries and high end shops around....... After having dinner at a PHO Sydney...Vietnamese restaurant (review coming up) went to the casino floor at Caesars and tried my luck again on the slot machines.....My $20.00 became 40....then 60....then 80...$200.00....time to cash in......just got my money back and some from a day before.....walked around watched people lost money on the poker tables....boy...I tell you these people are gamblers....i was on the 25 cents machine....but most of the older ones are on the dollar machines....and $5.00 machines...I nearly fainted when I saw a $100.00 machine...Whoa!! am I seeing it correctly...Excuse me but is this a $100.00 machine? Yes Ma'am....unbelievable....These people are high rollers!!!!.Well....I work hard for my money and I am not about to throw it now that way.....I have no problem with spending it on good food....well........everybody is different... Went for dinner at the casinos famous buffet.....it was Bleh!!!!Big disappointment....Steak was as hard as my head....most of the food are either over cooked or bland....too much oil....just feasted on the shrimps...and mussels....at least their desserts was yummy..... The main entrance / hotel lobby of Caesar's is actually in the back facing Pacific Avenue..... although there are 2 entrances facing the boardwalk...it is actually the back of the casino........A block down from the main entrance are Designer Outlet stores.......so if you get lucky and win a lot of money....stop and shop before heading home.......it was an unwinding trip.......I am good as new....... .

We would have done better printing off some pages from Wikipedia and walking around ourselves. I have seen such great reviews for other tours that I can only assume the problem was the guide. Still, given the price they charge, Context should do a better job preparing them or checking on what they actually do on a tour. Upshot: stick with cheaper or free tours because if it's not good, you haven't wasted the money at least.

We were with a family of three, so the group was 5 people. Sarah took us on a tasting tour of the Lower East Side's deli's and bakeries, talking about not only food but the immigrant experience in this area, and the process of gentrification nowadays. It's a difficult topic that she handled very well, and I highly recommend the tour.
