All good at the airport till passport controls. Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport is a busy international hub with two terminals, 1 for TAP Air Portugal and other major carriers. It has one notorious problem and that is the processing time for passport controls into and out of the EU Schengen zone. Travellers without young kids should use the e-passport gates to process & enter into the country so that you can exit out the same way. Otherwise you can be stuck in line just because of insufficient staffing and potentially miss your flight! Keep this delay in mind even if you're transferring to domestic flight after arriving internationally. If you're just entering the airport, plan also for the lengthy queue for security especially during the morning peak. For some reason, security tells you to extract all liquids into one small bag although we saw later that many passengers didn't bother. Furthermore, our luggage scan didn't save properly in their system and we had to wait in line for a rescan. The airport itself is quite spacious with plenty of amenities including a large food court that features many local restaurants and fast food options, as well as souvenir, sports and clothing shops. Within the EU Schengen area, there is also a busy central seating area with escalators that lead up to several premium lounges along with a row of hidden recliner seats away from the bustle. The plastic seating at the gates show signs of stain from many passengers sleeping across these seats with their shoes on. While there are gates directly to some planes, all of our flights required taking a bus sometimes with a long wait to get to our planes, adding to the wait-time. One positive while you're waiting at the airport is their wifi which streams quite fast. The airport is conveniently serviced by the Lisbon Metro red line about 40 minutes from city centre. Ask Me Lisboa kiosk is located at the entrance where you can pickup the Lisboa Card to cover transit and sightseeing up to 3 days. Skip it or hit it? Lisbon Airport can be pleasant if you get there 3-4 hours ahead of time to make it through security and passport controls.

Experiencing Lisbon as a primarily English speaker is one of the best non-primary English speaking countries I have visited. The people are warm, welcoming, and go out of their way to speak English when they recognize a visitor is struggling. Cascais, Sintra, Belem, or Lisbon itself all delivered this experience during my stay. All of that went out the window when I arrived at the airport to depart. Limited or non-existent signage (even in Portuguese) remotely attempting to inform travelers what direction to walk created chokepoints at every stage. The staff working the airport seemed like a totally different Portuguese citizen than all of the amazing people I interacted with in the cities, restaurants, hotels, and excursions. They gave the impression that they had no interest in helping direct the flow of traffic to make things easier on the travelers, or themselves for that matter. That combined with the poor operational engineering made each required step difficult to navigate, right up to the point of locating the physical departure gate. Part of me understands why their demeanor appeared to be miserable. Proper setup and staging with clearly labeled signage completely removes the need to speak with a human at the majority of major European cities and hubs. As a career operator, a small investment in signage would change the entire experience. That would likely improve the staffs outlook on spending day after day speaking to lines of travelers all asking the same question in a row. In closing, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you add Lisbon to your list of cities to visit as an English speaker. Especially if you love the ocean, outdoors, history, and topped tier cuisines from all over Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Just prepare yourself to have your overall experience take a dive upon arrival to the airport.

This is the kind of review that will save you from a total meltdown that will ruin your experience in Portugal. First off this airport is notorious for its dated infrastructure, confusing signage, totally illogical layout and mostly unhelpful staff (outside of the airline ground staff). This is well known if you simply look it up anywhere on the internet. The one thing that is really what causes mass chaos on a daily basis is the demented way the terminal is set up where passport control is located AFTER the security/duty free/shopping area in the terminal. When you depart from the main terminal (1) you will check in and show your passport to ground staff and go through a screening where they scan your boarding pass you will pass security. After that you will walk through a long and winding duty free section that opens in to the area where stores and restaurants and lounges are. What many people don't realize is that after all this there is a gigantic line where you have to do the actual passport control process to get to your actual gate. So here's the issue, the line is often overwhelming and can be as long as 1-4 hours long. My personal experience at 10am was a 1.5 hour wait. We barely made it to our gate in time. But many people don't realize this and show up with like 15-30 minutes to go and end up cutting the line, pushing people around and even get into open fights with people. (During our time the police actually arrived to break up one fight). It is absolutely lawless and there is almost nothing being done by the staff to corral anything. There are stories about this that circulate on the internet and it is due to obviously this being an aging airport in the middle of the city with no meaningful way to expand. While there's talk about the new airport being developed, the timeline is still years away so unless they do something drastic to renovate internally (which seems unlikely given the limited space) or to get more of those automated machines working, I don't see this changing anytime soon. Also even though the lines are delineated by EU and all passports all of the lines were pretty long but the all passports line was definitely overwhelming. Point being, you'd better budget a crap ton of time, because you have no idea how long it's going to really take to get to your gate

Very subpar experience here. First, there's no actual gate at least not for TAP. You arrive and deplane via a staircase right onto the runway like you would at a small private airport. Then you board a shuttle bus to arrive at passport control. INSANELY long lines, we are talking hours. There are no bathrooms in sight. So you just got off a 6+ hour flight and now need to wait in line for hours with no bathrooms. If I ever come back to Portugal I'd probably fly into Spain and take the train here because this is ridiculous. I had seen horror stories online and be assured they are true! In Spain we literally walked up to passport control with no line! Additionally, it was impossible to get an uber. I waited over 25 minutes and could not connect with a driver. I got frustrated so just started walking out of the airport. I walked about 20 minutes and then called an Uber to my accommodations. After the walk the Uber was only 4 euros compared to the 15 quoted at the airport. The only positive thing I will say is that this airport has some really nice shops for buying souvenirs and duty free items. They have a nice Longchamp store and beautiful offerings of wine and cheese.

AEROPORTO DE LISBOA - Hubby's birthday trip last month was a blast but this airport was quite the experience . We landed on a Thursday afternoon from calm and organized Frankfurt and when we got here it was hot , over crowded and felt like there was no air conditioning in the building ! We got our duty free goods and trying to find our bolt car was like being in a zoo because there were sooo many people just congregated in the area with no demarcations. Bad signal too. Leaving were on a 5am flight and we got to the airport super early and there were all these closed counters and people sleeping through out the terminal. By the time they opened the security line it was literally a herd of travelers ! Not many options for food and it was quite an adventure arriving and leaving Portugal!!! Just be Ready!!!

On the plus side, the security and customes-immigration people are pretty efficient, a two hour layover is time enough if you're flying TAP Air Portugal. There are some good choices for espresso and light eating which one needs with the Transatlantic jet lag. In the negative column, the airport is small and cramped for the volume of travellers, restrooms are overwhelmed, not enough seats in waiting areas, announcements can lag, and there aren't any charging stations.
Decent airport, but not big enough for the amount of people that go through it. This is one of the most crowded airports I've ever been to. It's a decent size, but there's just so many people passing through, especially in the domestic terminals, that it's hard to move around. And even though there are a number of sitting areas, almost every inch of that space is consistently occupied by fellow travelers. There are long lines at every eatery and restaurant, and it becomes especially stressful when you're trying to grab a quick bite before heading to your gate. In this airport, gate numbers aren't posted on the flight board until less than an hour before the flight. That sounds like a lot of time, but between navigating the throngs of people and trying to actually find your gate, it can be really stressful. So check that flight board often. For some flights, the flight board will display the time that your gate will be announced, so you won't have to constantly check. It's a little bit better in the international section (I call it a "section" because it's not quite a terminal) of the airport. There are fewer eateries and shops, but there are also less people and more sitting spaces. I think the cafes in the international section also have a broader variety of offerings in one place, as supposed to having multiple eateries.... Which works for me. The shops in both the domestic and international sections of the airport are nice. There are a few places to buy crafts and souvenirs, I saw a small Victoria's secret in there, there are also places to buy clothes, bags, and jewelry and other accessories, there's another place there selling designer bags and scarves, another shop selling soccer jerseys, some pastry stands, another shop selling high-end sweets and a few other random shops thrown in for good measure. In the domestic terminal, resist the urge to stop in the main food court, especially if you are short on time. There are smaller cafes sprinkled around the airport with shorter wait times and offering many of the same food items. You are bound to pass one or two as you make your way to your gate. Much of my 90 minute layover was eaten up by the wait to get through customs, but fortunately there was a small cafe right in front of my gate. I was able to get a bacalao fritter, a spinach puff, a pastel de nata as well as grab a bottled lactose-free latte from the refrigerator case (bless them for carrying those!). Everything came to a little over 12 euros, and it was absolutely delicious. The man behind the counter spoke English (which was great, even though I was ready with my translator app) and he was very nice. The customs officers I interacted with were also really nice...Especially coming into the country. When the officer saw that I was headed to the Azores, we had a quick but pleasant chat about the island before he wished me safe travels and sent me on my way. It was a very pleasant experience. One of the more pleasant customs experiences I've had in Europe. If you have a layover at this airport, make sure that it's longer than 2 hours if possible, especially if you're going to have to go through customs. It's going to take a while to navigate through the airport, and it will take you even longer if you have to wait in a long customs line. read more
A really nice airport and easy to get through and around. Personnel were really nice and it was clean and orderly. Now I don't know about the Postoffice here though. I mailed my letters at the Postoffice almost a month ago to the US and no one has received theirs. In fact, no one in Europe has received theirs either. Other than that it was a good airport with a nice duty free and pretty good eating and shopping options. read more
Leaving Lisbon headed to Seville. Check in the airport is smooth @ the kiosks, but then you go through a serpentine line to go through the luggage screening. After the luggage screening there is walk to duty free shops (wt?). As I he cattle meander through the stores people are trying to get to their flights (not a good traffic flow) After the duty free stores is a large open circular food court w/a bunch of different restaurants where you can grab a snack or a meal before heading to your gates. I found out the large open area is a staging/waiting area until your gate comes up. We arrived at the airport @ about 10:30 for a 1:05 flight. It's now 12.03 and we're still waiting to find out which S gate we are suppose to proceed As you can see 12:05 our gate finally came up read more

Worse airport experience ever! It took over an hour in line to go through passport control coming from another flight. Staff disregarded the hundreds of people in line that had short connections. I'm sure many lost their flight because of the incompetence to manage and the lack of care from staff. read more
Cons: Inconsistent accessibility for handicapped folks. We took a flight last April into Lisbon with TAP and we had assistance between and onto the plane with wheelchair assistance and also a lift elevator. Our trip this month had no assistance (we did request it beforehand) and if you're in a wheelchair, I'm not sure you'll be able to get on the plane. I'm on crutches and it was hard getting into the bus (high step, at least 1.5') and then you had to climb stairs up to the plane and down from the plane after landing. I'm not sure older folks or people with more progressive disabilities would be able. I was really surprised at the lack of care this time around. read more

One of the most unorganized airports. I can not even go into detail how many things went wrong because it would turn into a novel. There are many signs, yet all point in vague directions. One of the things I will mention is that coming into Portugal we waited over 2 hours in the customs line, & the last 30 of those minutes everyone had to avoid vomit on the floor, as no employee came to clean it, even after several people mentioned this to airport staff. Then we realized we had been directed to the wrong line by staff in the first place, & our wait would've been significantly shorter had correct direction been given. I am also going to mention, that for our flight out of Lisbon, we arrived 3 hours prior to our flight leaving as you should for an international flight, yet when we went to the counter to check our bags, we find out we had been removed from our flight without our knowledge (I know that's an airline issue, not an airport issue), but because of this redirection, it took us another 1 hour to even get our bags checked & we had to go to another 3 counters before finally being directed to the correct one - no staff willing to help & vague signage. I absolutely love Portugal. However to travel here again, I will be avoiding this airport at all possible costs. PS-people cutting lines at this airport happened more times than I can remember, and staff does nothing about it. So just prepare for that read more
It's a pretty confusing airport. There are signs that you follow in order to get to customs but then they drop off at some point and then you kind of have to just figure it out on your own. Other than that, the airport is not terrible. It's relatively clean, there's a Priority Pass lounge (ANA in Terminal 1), and the metro is connected. We didn't end up taking the metro just because we had a ton of luggage and Ubers are super cheap, but it's nice to have the option to. read more
For a small international airport, the security line is insanely long, even at 4 in the morning. There are very few shops open early in the morning even though there are multiple flights departing. There are only two lounges one for Star alliance and one for priority pass. The tax-free shopping here. It's very confusing. The stores and their associates don't seem to understand the process. read more

Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado Airport) is the largest airport in Portugal, it's remarkably close to the city centre and takes around 20 minutes on the Red Line of the Lisbon Metro. It's divided across two terminals, with low-cost airlines using Terminal 2 when departing Lisbon, although all airlines use Terminal 1 for arrivals - I did find this a little confusing as my airline ticket didn't say much, and they don't make it clear how to get to Terminal 2, I ended up having to ask a police officer who informed me the only way to get to Terminal 2 was via shuttle bus. The main entrance to the Airport seemed rather pleasant, as I was visiting just before Christmas, there was a large Christmas tree and it seemed pleasant and modern, the vast contradiction when entering Terminal 2 was highly noticeable. Terminal 2 just seemed like a god-awful run down Airport from a third-world country, it felt so basic, it was like I'd gone back in time by a couple of decades. The queues were poorly managed throughout the Airport including at check-in and security, with no bag-drop machines which you see at the larger airports. I did have to wait quite a while just to check my bags. Terminal 2 is basically two large halls, one to check in your bags, and one after security while you wait to head to your gate. After security, the Airport didn't have much at all going on, there was a McDonald's, a Nespresso-branded counter serving coffee, a Heineken-branded counter serving beer, but little else. The Duty-Free was small, and there wasn't any generic store selling bottled drinks, snacks and travel essentials. There was a lack of seating and outlets throughout the Terminal too, in both the general area and the food area, I even struggled to get a seat anywhere in the evening, while waiting for my delayed night flight, so I'd hate to imagine what it'd be like in the peak period of the day. The Airport also had a lack of announcements which didn't fill me with confidence when my flight was delayed, and more updates would have been appreciated. 2* - Lisbon is such a beautiful city but the Airport doesn't meet that, it isn't practical for a city the size of Lisbon and the passenger numbers it gets. Lisbon Airport alone gets more than double the number of passengers of Porto, the country's second busiest airport. read more
The Lisbon airport is a nice airport and easy to get around. Signs are in English and Portuguese which is always helpful. Flew Tap Airlines and their hub is Lisbon. I had a few stopovers here. Planes don't park at the gate and you're bused from the plane to the terminal. Nice stores and food choices. Had a 7 am flight and everything was open. It was crowded and they seem to have their act together. Security and passport check only took 10 minutes. That's a definite plus in my book. read more

Shopping variety is pretty good (but $$$ tourist prices). Food availability is not bad (but variance is super high, by a long shot the shittiest food we had in the country is here. Taxis even from the official taxi line are known scammers as we found out the hard way: we fell for the "broken meter and credit card machine", 40 euros to city center. (It should be around 10 euros.) Just stick to Uber and hopefully drive the taxi scammers out of business. read more

Landed here from Barcelona...getting the bags was quite inefficient. Signage was dodgy though we arrived at the carousel long before the bags did. Once we collected the bags getting a cab and onto our hotel was not a problem. Lisbon was stop three. Pros: A smaller city, easier to navigate despite a larger language barrier. Good food, cold beer (Super Bock!)-pastels de nata. Beautiful buildings and plazas-really loved the paint colors. A trip up the coast while still quite built up as Europe tends to be was a quality day trip. Cons: The cobbles are quaint. And uneven. And slippery. And really reflect the sun. Biking did not seem safe or well thought out here so I passed. read more
Nice airport with very clean bathrooms, lots of food options including McDonald's. Easy to navigate and the kiosk for information was manned by a very friendly knowledgeable gentleman. read more
This airport has the BEST food options I've ever seen at an airport... and I've been to a lot of them. It's set up food-court style, with lots of fast casual spots surrounding a big seating area. There was a taste of Portugal spot with chefs making pastel de natas from scratch in front of everyone and roasting chicken on skewers. There was the famous PAUL French bakery with incredible-looking sandwiches on French baguettes and patisserie-filled glass cases. There was a healthy food shop that had fresh juices, incredible-looking pasta and sushi and salads, and so much more. Everything truly looked incredible. I was having the best time and am thankful that my husband reminded me we needed to get to our gate for our flight - LOL. So impressed! read more

This is the WORST airport in the entire world. Their bag check line is inefficient, their tsa agents are rude, gate announcements are at the the very last minute, too much transitioning to get to where you need to be, and they ruined my film camera by making me put it through the machine instead of a bag check. Because my experience at this airport was so bad I will never visit the country again read more
The Lisbon Airport in Portugal is a small airport that makes me appreciate Augusta (AGS) airport. First of all the flight attendants on the Eurowings flight were friendly and accommodating. The airport staff despite the language barrier were polite and professional. The only things I'm having a hard time with is that once you clear security and find your respective gate... once you're call to board your flight you have to catch a bus to your plane... read more
Aeroporto de Lisboa is an international airport. From downtown, the car sharing service was 8 euro and I upgraded for a Tesla. It doesn't have much options for arriving area for food but departing has some choices. You can buy gifts at reasonable price such as wine, sardines and many other items. My favorite circus themed sardines shop is here. I am happy to be able to visit this amazing country filled with delicious food and lots of history. I do want to add the process for security, custom and baggage claim was so efficient. At custom, they have a digital passport lane to United States holders and others. Overall, I had an good experience and I would consider returning in the future. It was a plus to use the car sharing service as it had amazing rates and it was the lowest I ever paid for any ride in any country. read more
I really liked this airport. I usually don't like any airport. It is usually a means to an end. This airport looks like a mall. and tax-free part is definitely a bonus. The lounges for priority-pass is upstairs, so it is easy to find them and food is okay. They have their local Portuguese wine. All in all, a comfortable airport and lots of shops to distract you. Security was nice and rather fast. read more
This airport is not the easiest to navigate... especially if you're taking Delta... it's hidden beyond the entry way and have to walk quite a bit to find the Delta kiosk. If you have tax refund stuff, oh boy... apparently you need to check your luggage first and then go through all the security check point and THEN there's a station for VAT inside. This is ONLY for those holding your items on the plane home. This line moves... (not fast) but there are machines however, anything over $5k spent, will not work on those machines. It must be validated. (To my fellow ladies & gents who shops... bc $1 = €1 was amazeball! How could we not? lol) Just have lots of patience. BUT if your items are in your checked luggage (like port or heavier items) - then you need to get the tax refund done at the first VAT center, which only has 1 person doing it all. However this person will help you tag your luggage as well. Prepare to wait a looooong time tho. Overall, very messy all around and confusing at times. Be sure to give yourself 2.5-3hrs there... 1) airline check-in or baggage drop; 2) Security line, 3) VAT, 4) eat something quick (decent selection of eateries) and then 5) Custom exit... hoping that's all the lines I've managed to cover. Airport is clean, bathroom could be cleaner, people are sometimes helpful and finally, take deep breaths. Good luck my fellow travelers! #tchau #portugal #travelagain read more
In on Thursday afternoon, out on Tuesday morning. I had a quick visit to Lisbon on vacation. It is quite close to being perfect for tourism. Lots of great pluses including easy and inexpensive public transport into the downtown area that runs from early morning (not 3:00 am, sadly) until midnight. A half hour to just about anywhere by subway and then connections to trams or buses to the rest of the city, or you can ferry across the river to Almada. Lisbon is also a cruise port. Free wifi, easy and quick security, great signage in Portuguese and English, a lot of shopping, many restaurant options. What could make it perfect? Lisbon is a hub for TAP but is only a spoke for KLM, Air France and Lufthansa. For the early morning departures - we're talking 5:00 to 6:00 am - there is no business lounge available. That's annoying. But at least I had a jetbridge for my KLM flight from and to Amsterdam (Sorry, Susan P.!). On arrival in January 2022, they are checking COVID tests. This is published by the airlines and you should expect to show your test results after you clear baggage claim. And of course, masks are required throughout the airport, even if you're taking a nap on a bench. [Review 16566 overall - 84 in Portugal - 76 of 2022.] read more

Worst arrival experience... and I've travelled all around the world and through many 'third world' countries. Totally chaotic. Poor planning, staff and user experience. Don't spend your money coming to Lisbon and have to deal with this experience. My office job hellscape is better than hours spent at this airport in various queues. Be there early! At least 3 hours before your boarding time. They were busy and it took years to walk to check in / TSA.
Pretty busy airport, having travel TAP airlines fornthe first time, we were disappointed with the level of comfort in economy class. Seating in the back of thr plane, seats are really small. Landing after 6.5 hrs of direct flight from NYC to Lisbon, was painful on my back and my butt. The seats might as well been a wood bench. When i got the the airport just connecting to the free WIFI was a hassle. End up having tk connect to my Verizon wifi and paying U.S.A. Fees because the WIFI was useless. Finding my way to the immigration check point was a long way at 10:30am when we got here. Bathroom coming off thr plane were horrible, filthy and long lines. Had to wait until we found bathroom at the luggage claim area which were better kept and no lines. This airport is not suited to handle the minimal amount of flights during non busy hours, cant imagine what a disaster this place is when its a holiday. Finding thr ubers at level 2, is chaos. One way in and one way out, poor design that chokes the traffic trying to get out of the pick up zone. Thank god, i only had small back pack and carry on, cannot imagine if we had to pick ul luggage. read more
This is probably the worst, most confusing, and frustrating airport I've ever been in. They are doing construction, which is fine. My issue was the lack of signs and communication. We had several different employees tell us to go in different directions to get to customs. That was frustrating, but the worst was in the baggage claim area. It was very crowded and I think they were trying to have some control but they made a huge line when it wasn't really necessary, in the middle of the baggage claim, so people were having to walk through to get their bags and try to find the end of the line. The employees were yelling when people got confused. Not to mention, there was one door going out of that room. Had there been a fire or some other emergency, there is no way we would have gotten out. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more
Very beautiful airport and very clean. Easy to catch a can in Terminal 2. They are open 24 hours so if you have an early flight, you can sleep at the airport and not get harassed. Super comfortable seats at sone of the gates that recline so that you can get a little sleep (possibly) if you should need it. Why only 3 stars? Had a hard time finding baggage claim and when I did find it (at 11pm) I was told I had to leave and comeback at 7 am the next day. WHAT??? You are open all day, all night!! Had to wash my clothes in the sink and dry with a blow dryer because they were all I had! I still liked this airport more than Munich!! read more
This is the second time I found myself with a 8-10 hour layover in LIS. By the time we arrived, it was a little after 10pm. The airport services (food court/markets) were closed, and there was NO info to be found at the "info desk". I can't remember which gate we landed at but the security allowed us to stay at the gate and we found some comfortable seats. Just as soon as I closed my eyes... they started to vacuum clean(ugh!)! I had to move my feet because I was bumped by the vacuum. Like really?! You don't see a person laying here?! Make sure to secure your stuff, security was absent during late night! The only positive was the airport had very good WI-FI, a must have for any airport sleeper! My advice would be to head to a nearby hotel to get a proper nights rest. read more
This airport is a bit wonky in my opinion. We arrived late (thanks to a massively delayed flight) and struggled to find the rideshare pickup area, which is not clearly marked- or marked at all. Our first two rideshare drivers canceled on us at the last minute randomly, which isn't the airport's fault directly, but due to the unlabeled pickup space we were doubting we were in the right area. There is quite a bit of walking involved in this airport. I don't know if it's due to our particular flight/airline (TAP), domestic flights in general, or just all flights, but we had to board and deboard the plane by bus vs bridge. When flying out, our gate wasn't announced until right before boarding, leaving us to sit in the general area (which was quite crowded) and then hustle to the very far gate at the last minute. Overall it seemed clean and there was a nice assortment of shops and restaurants. I think convenience could be improved but Lisbon itself is beautiful and this is its airport so I may pass through again. read more

Nice airport. Passport control was a breeze with the electronic scanning option of your passport. So you scan your passport, take a picture, then move on to a border officer. There was no line. This airport is pretty chaotic with loads of shopping options!! Here's what made us happy - it had McDonalds, which offered the McVeggie burger with cheese. Overall a good airport with plenty of places to eat and drink while waiting. Confusing as most airports of course but pretty good about the language barrier. We were lost a couple of times and pretty hard to find people to help but when you do, they are helpful which was much appreciated. When you think you are checked in and through with lines, normally you still have a step or two that you figure out as you get towards your destination so get to your destination before you sit down for an espresso or bite to eat. Plenty of places nearer your final boarding area. If lots of time, there is good shopping and food right in the middle. This is a POS airport. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our luggage, our son had to wait 3 hour 40 minutes to clear immigration, the staff don't want to be bothered with questions, and the wait to check your luggage is atrocious. We will never use this airport again. Avoid it at all costs. read more
It does not get much worse that a 3 hour wait to pass immigration and apparently this is somehow acceptable. It reminds you of a third world country but that would be unfair to them. This airport is modern, served by a metro, has clear signage, is clean, and airline staff were helpful. Entering the country was fine. It was a long, boring walk to customs, but customs was quick and then I was outside hailing a cab. My customs agent was really nice. I told him I was visiting to drink the wine and eat the cheese and he laughed and told me how much I was going love their wine. Which I did. He was also hot. Leaving was OK. After security, you are directly deposited into a huge duty-free shop, which is smart. They have a nice Shiseido selection. But it was busy and crowded and I forgot to get ginja. My issue is that this airport does not offer much in the way of food, especially mid-morning, despite having a large food court. I think I ate at KFC. My gate was at the end of the airport and it was one of those situations where you had to take a bus to the plane. There wasn't much shopping or eating at my gate. Also, the gate seating is tiny and cramped and so are the gate lines. That part was kind of horrifying. I hope I fly TAP when I return (they were surprisingly expensive when I was visiting). And I hope to spend as little time in this airport as possible. read more

The good, the bad, and the ugly! My family and I made 4 trips either into our out of this airport within the last two weeks. The airport is small-medium in size which should make it easily navigable. There's a good size shopping area for both foods and duty free purchases. Baggage claim after your arrival is easily found and pretty timely. Getting out of the airport is where it gets tricky. Uber picks up on the departure "kiss and ride area" while taxis and buses are outside of baggage claims. There are no signs to tell you where Uber drivers park-we had to learn this the hard way. To access the Metro, you have to go outside of the building and then enter their station-there's no direct hallway. Flying out is where things get ugly. Checking-in kiosks are non-descript and serve multiple airlines. We printed off our Delta boarding passes on Sunday yet we still had to wait in the same line as everyone else to just drop off our luggage which took almost 45 minutes!! From there we hoofed it to the security line that was backed up to the entering hallway and it too took almost 45 minutes to get through. You have to RUN through all the shops to make it to the passport confirmation area. Now to be clear, I had already shown my passport at the airline counter and again through security. There are several different automated kiosk areas to go through depending on your originating country. None of us U.S. citizens could use the automated kiosks because they would not work. When we finally waved someone down, all they said was to go to the "all passports" line... and again...we waited..with all the other U.S. passport holding travelers. The line grew rapidly and we were starting to get frantic. They finally pushed us over to the non-U.S. passport side to get us through, but that still took 20 minutes! We arrived to the airport 2+ hours before our flight and were among the last dozen people to board. The airport is not prepared to deal with the influx of passengers and our Saturday flight from Barcelona was parked out in the back lot with a dozen other planes and everyone bussed to the terminal. This was after we had to circle the terminal several times before landing. Lisbon is a beautiful city. Their airport needs to grow to keep people coming back. read more

Lisbon Portela Airport, also known as Lisbon Airport (IATA: LIS, ICAO: LPPT), is an international airport located in the city of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. In 2013, the airport handled 16,024,955 passengers and 88,459 tonnes of cargo. The airport is the main hub of TAP Portugal and its subsidiary Portugália, a focus city for easyJet, Ryanair and SATA International and also the base for charter airlines euroAtlantic Airways, Hi Fly and White Airways. Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon is a great airport with excellent facilities. The airport is very clean and well-organized, with clear signs and directions throughout. The cafeteria in the airport is particularly noteworthy, with a wide range of food options available and delicious coffee. The airport also has a good selection of shops and duty-free stores, making it easy to find souvenirs or last-minute essentials before boarding your flight. The staff are friendly and helpful, which adds to the positive experience of traveling through this airport. Overall, I highly recommend Humberto Delgado Airport for anyone traveling to or from Lisbon. read more

It is an OK airport. There's often big delays when they deliver our baggage, but other than that the staff is nice and helpful. There connections to central city are good now with the metro. Also, the wi-fi is limited to 30 minutes, which isn't exactly nice, considering we often need to wait a lot more than that. read more

The police and lost and found workers here are the worst people I've ever come into contact with in my entire life. Truly horrible, rude, disgusting people. Avoid at all costs. Should be ashamed of themselves. read more
