All good at the airport till passport controls. Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport is a busy international hub with two terminals, 1 for TAP Air Portugal and other major carriers. It has one notorious problem and that is the processing time for passport controls into and out of the EU Schengen zone. Travellers without young kids should use the e-passport gates to process & enter into the country so that you can exit out the same way. Otherwise you can be stuck in line just because of insufficient staffing and potentially miss your flight! Keep this delay in mind even if you're transferring to domestic flight after arriving internationally. If you're just entering the airport, plan also for the lengthy queue for security especially during the morning peak. For some reason, security tells you to extract all liquids into one small bag although we saw later that many passengers didn't bother. Furthermore, our luggage scan didn't save properly in their system and we had to wait in line for a rescan. The airport itself is quite spacious with plenty of amenities including a large food court that features many local restaurants and fast food options, as well as souvenir, sports and clothing shops. Within the EU Schengen area, there is also a busy central seating area with escalators that lead up to several premium lounges along with a row of hidden recliner seats away from the bustle. The plastic seating at the gates show signs of stain from many passengers sleeping across these seats with their shoes on. While there are gates directly to some planes, all of our flights required taking a bus sometimes with a long wait to get to our planes, adding to the wait-time. One positive while you're waiting at the airport is their wifi which streams quite fast. The airport is conveniently serviced by the Lisbon Metro red line about 40 minutes from city centre. Ask Me Lisboa kiosk is located at the entrance where you can pickup the Lisboa Card to cover transit and sightseeing up to 3 days. Skip it or hit it? Lisbon Airport can be pleasant if you get there 3-4 hours ahead of time to make it through security and passport controls.

Experiencing Lisbon as a primarily English speaker is one of the best non-primary English speaking countries I have visited. The people are warm, welcoming, and go out of their way to speak English when they recognize a visitor is struggling. Cascais, Sintra, Belem, or Lisbon itself all delivered this experience during my stay. All of that went out the window when I arrived at the airport to depart. Limited or non-existent signage (even in Portuguese) remotely attempting to inform travelers what direction to walk created chokepoints at every stage. The staff working the airport seemed like a totally different Portuguese citizen than all of the amazing people I interacted with in the cities, restaurants, hotels, and excursions. They gave the impression that they had no interest in helping direct the flow of traffic to make things easier on the travelers, or themselves for that matter. That combined with the poor operational engineering made each required step difficult to navigate, right up to the point of locating the physical departure gate. Part of me understands why their demeanor appeared to be miserable. Proper setup and staging with clearly labeled signage completely removes the need to speak with a human at the majority of major European cities and hubs. As a career operator, a small investment in signage would change the entire experience. That would likely improve the staffs outlook on spending day after day speaking to lines of travelers all asking the same question in a row. In closing, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you add Lisbon to your list of cities to visit as an English speaker. Especially if you love the ocean, outdoors, history, and topped tier cuisines from all over Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Just prepare yourself to have your overall experience take a dive upon arrival to the airport.

This is the kind of review that will save you from a total meltdown that will ruin your experience in Portugal. First off this airport is notorious for its dated infrastructure, confusing signage, totally illogical layout and mostly unhelpful staff (outside of the airline ground staff). This is well known if you simply look it up anywhere on the internet. The one thing that is really what causes mass chaos on a daily basis is the demented way the terminal is set up where passport control is located AFTER the security/duty free/shopping area in the terminal. When you depart from the main terminal (1) you will check in and show your passport to ground staff and go through a screening where they scan your boarding pass you will pass security. After that you will walk through a long and winding duty free section that opens in to the area where stores and restaurants and lounges are. What many people don't realize is that after all this there is a gigantic line where you have to do the actual passport control process to get to your actual gate. So here's the issue, the line is often overwhelming and can be as long as 1-4 hours long. My personal experience at 10am was a 1.5 hour wait. We barely made it to our gate in time. But many people don't realize this and show up with like 15-30 minutes to go and end up cutting the line, pushing people around and even get into open fights with people. (During our time the police actually arrived to break up one fight). It is absolutely lawless and there is almost nothing being done by the staff to corral anything. There are stories about this that circulate on the internet and it is due to obviously this being an aging airport in the middle of the city with no meaningful way to expand. While there's talk about the new airport being developed, the timeline is still years away so unless they do something drastic to renovate internally (which seems unlikely given the limited space) or to get more of those automated machines working, I don't see this changing anytime soon. Also even though the lines are delineated by EU and all passports all of the lines were pretty long but the all passports line was definitely overwhelming. Point being, you'd better budget a crap ton of time, because you have no idea how long it's going to really take to get to your gate

Very subpar experience here. First, there's no actual gate at least not for TAP. You arrive and deplane via a staircase right onto the runway like you would at a small private airport. Then you board a shuttle bus to arrive at passport control. INSANELY long lines, we are talking hours. There are no bathrooms in sight. So you just got off a 6+ hour flight and now need to wait in line for hours with no bathrooms. If I ever come back to Portugal I'd probably fly into Spain and take the train here because this is ridiculous. I had seen horror stories online and be assured they are true! In Spain we literally walked up to passport control with no line! Additionally, it was impossible to get an uber. I waited over 25 minutes and could not connect with a driver. I got frustrated so just started walking out of the airport. I walked about 20 minutes and then called an Uber to my accommodations. After the walk the Uber was only 4 euros compared to the 15 quoted at the airport. The only positive thing I will say is that this airport has some really nice shops for buying souvenirs and duty free items. They have a nice Longchamp store and beautiful offerings of wine and cheese.

AEROPORTO DE LISBOA - Hubby's birthday trip last month was a blast but this airport was quite the experience . We landed on a Thursday afternoon from calm and organized Frankfurt and when we got here it was hot , over crowded and felt like there was no air conditioning in the building ! We got our duty free goods and trying to find our bolt car was like being in a zoo because there were sooo many people just congregated in the area with no demarcations. Bad signal too. Leaving were on a 5am flight and we got to the airport super early and there were all these closed counters and people sleeping through out the terminal. By the time they opened the security line it was literally a herd of travelers ! Not many options for food and it was quite an adventure arriving and leaving Portugal!!! Just be Ready!!!

On the plus side, the security and customes-immigration people are pretty efficient, a two hour layover is time enough if you're flying TAP Air Portugal. There are some good choices for espresso and light eating which one needs with the Transatlantic jet lag. In the negative column, the airport is small and cramped for the volume of travellers, restrooms are overwhelmed, not enough seats in waiting areas, announcements can lag, and there aren't any charging stations.
Flying through TAP is an underrated affordable option to get yourself to Europe or through Europe from the US, so it's nice to know their hub is a decent layover. The quality of options available for food and retail varies wildly by terminal, but they do have some nice stuff, ranging from good ol' American Starbucks to a specialty Portuguese sardine shop. Prices aren't cheap, but it's not above average for an airport. It's nice that stores will take American currency at the automatic exchange rate, and can give you change in euros. I arrived in a rush on my second visit after a long layover in Lisbon, and employees were easy to find and ready to help. I also appreciated the timely free shuttle between the two terminals. Security appeared well-managed, everyone spoke English, and navigating the space was clear and simple. That's all I ask of an international airport. read more
I would give this a zero if I could. Came in from Cincinnati. Got off flight no signs and also people telling you different ways to go. Finally find the line for immigration took about 90 minutes. After immigration trying to find our bags. One small sign in a huge baggage area. Then to exit the airport only one door open for us to exit. Literally hundreds of people trying to leave. There was a line nobody adhered to. People were yelling fighting. Horrible way to see a city for the first time. read more
Pretty nice & clean. Reminds me of a high end mall! Seriously, this airport has a ton of stores and restaurants. You can also get the traditional pastel de nata at a number of places here. Security is efficient and the customs line moves quick. Overall: I like the airport better than many I have visited. Uber is an option. But, it takes a little knowhow to find the area. There's no signs. But, the Ubers show up in a little turnaround area that's near the parking garage. If you go through the process of summoning the Uber, it shows you. read more
This airport has potential. Unfortunately our experience was not pleasant. The airport is clean and spacious. We landed today, Saturday January 4th and the lack of employee staffing and disorganization turned our arrival into a nightmare. Our plane landed at 2pm with many other large jumbo jets. The line for nonresidents was extremely long and was well over one thousand people in line. Only two immigration booths were staffed!!!! The only two employees working for nonresidents were painfully slow and appeared to have some type of conflict or concerns with about half the people that made it up to the booths. Several people in front and behind us were having emotional meltdowns because of missed connections for which the employees were of no help. Two women were sobbing behind us because of two failed attempts to successfully connect and clear the long lines. We were getting anxious and upset just observing other travelers drama. After two hours we finally cleared immigration because multiple people walked to the front demanding to speak to airport management over the chaos in immigration. When Chris and I were finally called to immigration the officer was in a bad mood and stamped our passports without looking at our photos or any of the standard questions when arriving in a foreign country. The one silver lining was the clean bathrooms. This airport needs adequate staffing and the employees need customer service training and schedule forecasting based on the volume of planes arriving. We hate this airport. read more

Chaotic cattle herds and lacking clear and early communication about gate assignments. Not enough space in concourses, which are oddly narrow and they try to funnel huge crowds of people through tiny hallways and sets of doors. Some nice shops and cafeteria but the signage and processes need help. Transport from the airport is challenging to find and navigate. Lacking and confusing signage made us wander aimlessly and go in circles, which almost made us miss our train to Porto. We were surprised by how little we needed to take out or remove while in the security lines. This made the lines go so much more quickly than any airport I have been in. read more
We visited this airport twice once when we came in and once when we left. The first time we came in our airplane landed on the tarmac they rolled up some stairs you walk down and get on the bus and the bus drives you to the terminal. Now they're very worried about Covid in this particular part of the world however they crammed the entire playing on this bus. But I'm telling you it was full I'm not even exaggerating there was like no air because there were so many people. It's interesting how they're only worried about Covid when it's convenient for them. We had to walk like 25 minutes after the bus to find our luggage. They make you walk through this big shopping mall type area to get anywhere. It's pretty ridiculous. The layout of this airport is kind of silly because you know you're going to spend a good amount of time hiking no matter where it is that you need to go. Even more entertaining, after we got off that bus crammed with many people, we got our luggage and then we went to leave the airport and you had to pass a checkpoint and show your Covid vaccine and a QR code from your test within the last 24 hours to get out of the airport. No what's more interesting is that the lines to get out were hundreds and hundreds of people long and everybody was smashed in the area breathing the same air. Purely ridiculous. When we return to the airport they don't check your Covid status at all to get in. We again had to hike a solid 20+ minutes maybe longer. Do you self check-in self baggage drop for TAP airlines and I think for the rest of the airlines was in efficient because it barely worked. We have first class tickets and the first class line wasn't really marked. The machines to check in and get your bag tags were chaotic at best it was just a big cluster and everybody was running around and milling around. We were there early so we spent half an hour in the priority pass lounge which was nice. They had some decent food selections and that was the bright spot of this visit. Then we hiked another 20 minutes to our gate only to find out that there was some delay that nobody bothered to tell us. So we stood in this tiny room with hundreds of people crammed in together for 45 minutes waiting for them to figure out what was the delay. Then you stand a little while longer in the jetway while they're doing whatever it is they're doing. I understand that delays happen but I could've spent that 45 minutes in the priority pass lounge not standing up because there's no seating close to the gates. What it boils down to is that nobody cares because they know you need to use the airport so there's no other choice, that equates to why even bother to make it better. Everybody we encounter that worked in that Airport was ambivalent at best. If there's anyway I can avoid this Airport in the future you know I will. read more
Lots of good shopping, plenty of good coffee (and pastel de natas), and a good amount of seating. The gates themselves are a bit hectic, and the airport is busy, but we had no problem getting through security and finding out plane. read more

Lisbon, Portugal nice main airport! Waiting rooms to get on and off flights tiny. All other amenities are ok. Duty free requires tickets and also some US cc's are not accepted! I'd go thru here again - but bad currency rates to exchange money.. tables, food court and toilets. Some areas are mall-like. Some locals drop in just to shop: and see the tourists that come by.. Security was pretty quick, and had a variety of shops and food. Had 4 flights and all required taking a bus to the plane. Be ready to wait for immigration, not enough officers available when our planes came in. read more

Rip off taxi stand. Take uber instead. Driver seemed nice. He spoke some Portuguese with me. He did not speak English. Which was fine by me. Well, I want to pay. He wanted three times the amount of uber. Either fix a price before you get in the car or go Uber and know what you're paying. read more

VAT Tax refund- in case you're wondering how it works. If your purchased goods are going to be checked, you first get a bag tag for the suitcase at the airline desk (as if you're checking it) and get your boarding pass. But the bag won't go to the plane, it'll be given to you to take to the tax refund place so you can show your goods. If your items were bought in Portugal, you can use the kiosk at the tax refund place. Otherwise, you'll have to wait in line. They're more strict about seeing the actual goods and making sure you're taking them on board than any other tax refund office I've previously used. Because of this, allow 30-60 min for this process, just in case. Make sure all your receipts get stamped. (The officer made a mistake and forgot to stamp one of mine.) After they verify your goods, they stamp your receipt and they send the suitcase to the plane. You then go through security and go to the Global Blue kiosk (if you purchased in Portugal) or the desk. They'll make sure your receipts are stamped and they get you cash or credit card credit. If your purchased goods are going with you you on board, you'll go to the refund place after security. read more
I used to love this airport and it was one of my favorites to travel in and out of in Europe. Living in NJ, many stopovers are directed here or Frankfurt, and I normally preferred Lisbon because it is smaller with better dining options. After two bad experiences in a week, my feelings are now changed, and hence the review that now follows. Bad experience #1 - my husband and I were traveling through Lisbon early last week with our pets (1 dog, 1 cat) as part of a move to France. We had a connection 1 hr 45 min connection. As we approached security, We were told that I had to take my dog out of his carrier. I realized that I left his leash on the airplane and asked to go back for it. It has sentimental value and it matches his harness but I was told that it was impossible. We then were instructed to remove our car. She is a cat you can't hold and it would have been impossible so they made us put her through the X-ray machine. They don't have a separate room like most airports for inspections, which seems inefficient and unlikely. When I went to my gate to inquire about the leash, I was told that I could email the airport's lost and found department; that employees are required to return mislaid property. I did so promptly and have yet to receive a response. Just poor. Bad experience #2 - My husband and our vet returned through Lisbon with our other two pets several days later. When approaching security, they were told both cats had to be removed from the carrier. They did so as asked (way to have a consistent policy). Due to a delay, there was a right connection. Although they arrived at the gate before the departure, they were told that the flight was closed even though there was 10 minutes to spare. Airport policy. As a result of this policy and TAP's multiple delays, a trip that should have been 10 hours ended up being more than 24 hours. I have had trips to India and Bangkok that we're shorter. Imagine keeping a diabetic senior cat in a carrier for that long (she and our other cat were periodically taken out in the handicapped bathroom so they could stretch their legs, pee, eat, get water and receive medication). So, notwithstanding loving Lisbon as a city (one of my faves) and all of the enticements for a glorious stopover, I will be avoiding this airport and TAP (separate review to follow). Back to Heathrow and British Airways for me. read more

Quite mediocre. I'm really not a fan of the European system when the gate for the departing flight is only announced 1 hour before the flight's scheduled time. This forces everyone to congregate in the center of the terminal, with limited seating available and limited food options. I was hoping to use TAP star alliance lounge, which was open according to the website. However, the lounge was actually closed due to the construction, and instead of offering customers an access to another lounge, everyone was given a measly €10 food voucher. I also would like to mention that duty free options are extremely limited. There is a small shop in the common European gates area, and then another one in the international gates area (you need to walk for some time to get there). Both stores offer very limited assortment of traditional duty free items. The prices are kind of okay, but don't rely too much on duty free if you are looking for something in particular. Truly an average experience. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 2019 - # 47/100 If you happened to arrive at Terminal 1 and know that your connecting flight at Terminal 2 is not till 3-4 hours later, please by all means stay at Terminal 1, shop, eat, and enjoy the better ambiance. Terminal 2 has barely any benches for waiting, airconditioning is almost non-existent, and the facilities are less to be desired due to high foot traffic. Food options are cold sandwiches from vending machines, snacks, and candies. read more

This place is a cluster, especially if you're flying American Airlines. The place is a mad house, once you finish ticketing, prepare for a maze through the airport. No direct paths to your gate. Enjoy duty free, random sitting Areas, etc. Oh, then enjoy a bus ride to your place and board like it's 1979. read more
This airport is cute and small, but filled with great stuff. Chairs in many points of this airport as well as changing stations. Many different stores and food places for their guests. Great customer service. I really liked the service in here. The restrooms were nice and colorful ( all the doors were decorated) but they were not as clean as I expected. read more
The Humberto Delgado Airport or I just call it Lisbon Airport was somewhat confusing when I first entered. I eventually found my airline desk which was not busy at all. The entire check in process was painless and somewhat quick for an International fight. Once we checked in, I found myself lost in a maze of tax free stores that were the pathway to the gates. I must say it was impossible not to stop and shop. I was not aware of until I did my own investigation that there was another passport check before I could enter the gate area. It's a good thing I figured that out quickly otherwise I could have missed my flight. Once I reached the gate, there was another line for a passport and ticket review. We also needed to take a bus to our plane. I just assumed Delta Airlines was not as popular as American in Lisbon. read more
My first time flying out of this airport in a very long time. It was summertime so it was pretty busy and that made the airport a little hectic. Security and customs lines could have been better managed though they did move. Again just a little chaotic. The gate areas had shopping and restaurants typical of most airports. Not a bad experience. read more

It's a well oiled machine. Only one security guy was a jerk. The lady at the first checkpoint asked how old my daughter is, I said six, she said one year too old to use the child line. Then the next guy barked at me, "how old" but I don't speak Portuguese. He rolled his eyes and said AGE, I said six, he said go there, pointing. I said the other lady said not to, he said go anyway. Fine. That was the only negative part. Otherwise staff were great. I got a gentle TSA pat down, it was ok. You NEED to get here early. There are MULTIPLE checkpoints. Plus you have to wind your way through a LOT of duty shops. Like Disneyland, you and your kids are forced through the gift shop and good luck not buying a stuffed animal. We did. There are lots of food options. I got a decent ham croquette and espresso. DO NOT hang out in duty free. There is a whole set of passport and security checkpoints after. Take this to heart. Get to your terminal. The gate number is announced half hour before boarding but you will know what terminal to go to. GO. read more
Pretty much the same as Heathrow or Mexico City or any major cities airport... the baggage claim area is nicer than the Gate check in areas . I ran into no problems at all and once through the security area there are tons of places to eat and shop. Not much else to say ... it's just an airport. read more

Feeling stressed already, flying international. Get through security, only to get into another line for passports. Easily over a hundred people in line and only 1 agent on a Saturday. My stress level (on a range from 0-10) went from a 7 to a o my God not another line, I'm going to miss my flight 12. Would never fly out of Lisband again. So stupid. You would expect better from the Capital Cities Airport. read more
Yes, at 49 years old it was my first time traveling alone on an international flight (direct from SFO). But better late than never so GO ME. I was pretty nervous. Excited to see Portugal and meet up with friends who would be coming from Spain the next day, but nervous. That said, I found the airport to be pretty straightforward and easy to navigate both arriving and departing. Kind of a wild shuttle ride when we landed from SFO and my departure gate home was a little difficult to find because it was partially blocked by partitions that were being used to set up a line/queue, but other than that I was able to figure out where to go and what to do. Signs are pretty clear and people were generally helpful. Would love to visit the area again so I'm sure I'll be back. read more
This airport is not far from downtown, and it's relatively inexpensive and quick to go there. You can use the express bus by purchasing ticket at the tourist info counter (the pass also includes visit to the Belem tower and Jeronimos Monastery, great for first time visitors), or you can use the local regular buses or metro (be prepared you may need to lift your luggage up and down stairs though). Thumbs up for the metro ticket machine being bilingual. So are the ATM machines, with a bunch of them lined up near the exit gate, so I can easily use my ATM card to get euro bills. Departing, the signage is a bit confusing. You have to pass through the duty free shop, plus a whole shopping mall, to get to customs control. There are many shops, not just fancy high end boutiques, but cute dollar stores like Ale Hop, shops for last minute souvenirs like wine and egg tarts, and a whole shop for canned sardines! I won't be surprised if some shopaholics get so excited they miss their flight!! read more
This airport is tiny! We had a layover here from Rome going back to Dulles. We did not have a problem with customs/passport control. I saw many people complained about the line but if you have a long layover (like a 2-hour layover), then you should be fine. If you have an hour layover, it might be pushing it. There are a couple things I did not like about this airport. First, the selection of food places are limited. And those choices aren't good at all. I was expecting a place that serves some Portuguese food but nope. Second, after you pass passport control, there is no way for you to access any lounge (priority pass holders beware) because all the lounges are before passport control! That is ridiculous, why is the layout that way?! We didn't even know this was the case because we just kinda followed everyone towards passport control and we realized after asking someone that the lounges are outside of the passport control border. Overall, I would just research when you are flying into this airport which in my case I am coming here in September for a day of layover in Lisbon. I hope to get a better experience then. read more
Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Decor & Style: 4/5 Food selection is decent with your typical restaurants and fast food. I gave this place 4 stars because the lines were efficient, customer service was excellent, and it felt safe even though it was slightly crowded at the time of leaving (empty upon arrival). Bathrooms were clean! I wish the waiting area was a little bigger for international flights so a ton of us wouldn't have to stand. Other than that it's better than most American airports, lol. read more
Well laid out, easy to get around, lots of shopping and pretty clean. While you may not have choices when flying, it is comforting to have things work, and distractions when there are waits. I would rate 0 stars if I could. Absolutely hands-down the WORST airport experience I have ever had in my entire life. I was supposed to have a one hour layover in Lisbon, then take my connecting flight to Porto. I am currently stuck in this airport for an extra five hours due to their poor management and their disgraceful operations. After landing and heading toward security to get to my second flight, it seemed like every single international flight had landed at the same time. We were all packed into this large room like sardines with zero air flow. No COVID safety measures put into place at all. Unfortunately, the lack of safety measures was not even the worst part of the experience. This entire process of getting to my connecting flight was extremely unorganized and unprofessional. I was 10 minutes away from my departure time, and I was still stuck deep into the passport lines. I saw the employees allowing certain people to skip the line the catch their flight, so when I told them about my departure time being soon, their response was "you'll get a ticket for the next plane". Incredibly frustrating to hear after already having a long flight. I spoke with another one of the employees, and it turns out EVERY SUNDAY they have this issue where there are too many people are arriving from flights. Every Sunday, mass amounts of people miss their connecting flights because the airport simply cannot accommodate such a large amount of people. You would think that if the same issue was occurring week after week, someone in their management team would make some changes?! I am sleep-deprived and pissed off, but I can say with confidence I will do everything in my power to avoid this airport in the future. read more

Gotta say, the the most efficient airport I've passed through at least it was for me. Lisbon was my layover stop from Chicago to Sal, Cape Verde, via Lisbon, Portugal. Heading to Sal wasn't bad except the long layover; I arrived around 9am and my flight wasn't out until 9pm. International arrivals was in the opposite terminal from the Star Alliance club so I had to go through Passport Control and Security several times. The return flight though was a logistical nightmare especially since I was talked into packing a bag that needed to be checked. I can usually pack for up to two weeks in a carryon size. Next time I'll trust myself and not check luggage. I recommend everyone go to Cape Verde, lovely! read more
Horrible airport for a few reasons! First off, how can an airport be so small yet takes 2-3 hours just to get through Passport Control?? I had a short layover of 2h 55 minutes in Lisbon airport. As soon as I got off my previous flight I went straight to Passport control. We landed at 6:30 am & my flight was for 8:55. Tell me why I waited in line at passport control for almost 2 hrs. I almost missed my damn flight bc the passport control line moves like a snail. If it wasn't for one of the staff calling for passengers to the city I was going to, and had he not pulled me out of tje line, I would've missed my flight. This happened to me twice at this airport so it's definitely not a coincidence. This airport caters to ppl that are traveling to Portugese speaking countries but if you can avoid it..do so read more
This airport is confusing as hell when checking in. Their WIFI doesnt work and my data doesnt work in a foreign country. The signs are hard to read. It's a good thing they speak English in Lisbon or else you would have heard an Asian girl crying because she doesnt have wifi to find her way around. Walking in you would be greeted with unorganized chaos in the checking in lines or portion. People are just everywhere that you don't even know if they're in lines or one big family standing together. The layout of this airport is confusing too. Signs are unclear and arrows looking like its pointing to go down but it means continue ahead. But once you make it through the gates, you're golden! read more

Terminal 1 at the Lisbon airport was very nice, clean, modern, lots of seating and tons of affordable food choices. Seats by the boarding gates even had USB ports to charge up electronics. New airports sort of amuse me, they all seem to route you through the duty free & designer shops before you get to the gate areas. But then again lots of people at the Lisbon airport were shopping for last minute gifts, food, wine, porcelain, and most of the prices weren't ridicules. In fact I almost bought a bottle of their famous cherry brandy to take with me, but I didn't feel like carrying it. A lot of the food in the food courts also looked great... the USA really needs to catch up. read more
Yuck yucky yuck! There are a lot of stores and a lot of seating. We were here for a 6 hour layover and it's just bad. Everything is dirty. I wiped down a seat and table for my mom to lay down and it was BLACK. The floors are crusted with food and who knows what else. As a Portuguese person living in the US, I was so excited about this layover. OMG, it was terrible. The international terminal for TAP had MINIMAL food offerings. Everything was carb heavy. If I had known this, I would have grabbed food in the central food/shops area where I bought some Portuguese trinkets for my family. Be prepared! Bring snacks! Also, the wine in the small cheese shop in the international terminal was the most affordable alcohol. So I had some illicit snacks. read more

The good, the bad, and the ugly! My family and I made 4 trips either into our out of this airport within the last two weeks. The airport is small-medium in size which should make it easily navigable. There's a good size shopping area for both foods and duty free purchases. Baggage claim after your arrival is easily found and pretty timely. Getting out of the airport is where it gets tricky. Uber picks up on the departure "kiss and ride area" while taxis and buses are outside of baggage claims. There are no signs to tell you where Uber drivers park-we had to learn this the hard way. To access the Metro, you have to go outside of the building and then enter their station-there's no direct hallway. Flying out is where things get ugly. Checking-in kiosks are non-descript and serve multiple airlines. We printed off our Delta boarding passes on Sunday yet we still had to wait in the same line as everyone else to just drop off our luggage which took almost 45 minutes!! From there we hoofed it to the security line that was backed up to the entering hallway and it too took almost 45 minutes to get through. You have to RUN through all the shops to make it to the passport confirmation area. Now to be clear, I had already shown my passport at the airline counter and again through security. There are several different automated kiosk areas to go through depending on your originating country. None of us U.S. citizens could use the automated kiosks because they would not work. When we finally waved someone down, all they said was to go to the "all passports" line... and again...we waited..with all the other U.S. passport holding travelers. The line grew rapidly and we were starting to get frantic. They finally pushed us over to the non-U.S. passport side to get us through, but that still took 20 minutes! We arrived to the airport 2+ hours before our flight and were among the last dozen people to board. The airport is not prepared to deal with the influx of passengers and our Saturday flight from Barcelona was parked out in the back lot with a dozen other planes and everyone bussed to the terminal. This was after we had to circle the terminal several times before landing. Lisbon is a beautiful city. Their airport needs to grow to keep people coming back. read more

Lisbon Portela Airport, also known as Lisbon Airport (IATA: LIS, ICAO: LPPT), is an international airport located in the city of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. In Portuguese, it is called Aeroporto de Lisboa, Aeroporto da Portela, or Aeroporto da Portela de Sacavém. It takes its name from the neighbouring parish (freguesia) of Portela in Loures Municipality, formerly known as Portela de Sacavém. It is one of the largest and ×best equipped airports in Western Europe for maintenance, navigation and air traffic control, and passenger service, having been nominated as Europe's Leading Airport for five consecutive years in the World Travel Awards. In 2013, the airport handled 16,024,955 passengers and 88,459 tonnes of cargo. The airport is the main hub of TAP Portugal and its subsidiary Portugália, a focus city for easyJet, Ryanair and SATA International and also the base for charter airlines euroAtlantic Airways, Hi Fly and White Airways. Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon is a great airport with excellent facilities. The airport is very clean and well-organized, with clear signs and directions throughout. The cafeteria in the airport is particularly noteworthy, with a wide range of food options available and delicious coffee. The airport also has a good selection of shops and duty-free stores, making it easy to find souvenirs or last-minute essentials before boarding your flight. The staff are friendly and helpful, which adds to the positive experience of traveling through this airport. Overall, I highly recommend Humberto Delgado Airport for anyone traveling to or from Lisbon. read more

It is an OK airport. There's often big delays when they deliver our baggage, but other than that the staff is nice and helpful. There connections to central city are good now with the metro. Also, the wi-fi is limited to 30 minutes, which isn't exactly nice, considering we often need to wait a lot more than that. read more

The police and lost and found workers here are the worst people I've ever come into contact with in my entire life. Truly horrible, rude, disgusting people. Avoid at all costs. Should be ashamed of themselves. read more
