Each production has pushed a boundary, and while a few company members reappear in different productions, they generally bring fresh faces and voices to each new story. I'm really excited for what the AVLT company plans to bring with the new season, and I encourage people to try them out. One of AVLT's best features is their "Pay what you want" program - just show up, and if the show isn't sold out you can get in for as little or as much as you can afford. If you like the show well enough to throw a few more dollars at the fishbowl on the way out, so much the better! These guys are good, they're local, and they're unique. Go see a show!

Marcia Evans Gallery is wonderful gallery in the Short North Columbus neighborhood…read more A friend and I have visited Marcia's gallery for a number of years, as we've stayed at the B&B nearby and we always stop by when we're in Columbus for an afternoon, as she's always so friendly and welcoming, but also allows you to take time to view and take in the art in the gallery. She has rotating group of artists in the gallery and one of our favorites is Annette Poitau, her colorful abstract art with vibrant colors and just the right amount of varnish are remarkable pieces. This past Saturday finally one of Annette's pieces called my name and proud to purchase and bring a piece home. The art in the gallery is affordable and variety of sizes, from pieces you could put on an office desk, to main focal point in a home or business. Marcia's gallery is a must while you're in Short North!

We were warned to bring chairs, which we did, since the seating is on the ground in an ampitheatre setting. Note that for the future. The sound system is pretty good, but at times things did short out, but overall I came away very impressed. Westerville Park's does it right, the actors were very committed, and it was a wonderful experience of summer community Theatre. Well done....you will be impressed too. I'm going to check out a winter play in their other location.

Their mission is to provide brand new clothing to school aged children through a needs based application program in Central Ohio. They have provided clothing to over 750,000 children since the organization was founded. They started our volunteer experience with a tour of their facility. We got the chance to meet the exec director and several of the board members. All were very welcoming. You can see that they are passionate about the mission and proud of the organization's over 100 years of service to the community.

It was busy on the street prior to doors opening but we got through security quickly. I wish that they had streamlined the lobby area more because we had to wait for every group to be led to their seats. This caused a major backup in the small lobby and it was difficult to get around. Once we got to our seats we were able to clearly see the stage and enjoy the view. The seats were vintage and comfy enough. The gold accents everywhere were beautifully classic. Getting down to the bathrooms was a bit challenging with all of the stairs, and the women's restroom had openings on both sides so it was difficult to tell who was next in line. There was a small medical emergency during the show and the staff handled the entire situation swiftly, calmly, and safely. I was very impressed with this theater and can't wait to come back to see another show!

Known for staging shows both traditional and outlandish, CSP's recent season included The Rocky Horror Show, She Loves Me, Sweet Charity and Reefer Madness. As you can see they're down with variety. Columbus' only all-musical troupe, they seem to have honed the art. Their current home is Axis Nightclub, which gives the shows a dinner-theater quality (the full bar is open during shows). Performances are always intimate, and frequently include audience involvement of one kind or another. Don't be surprised if a zombie brushes past you at some point or an actor lands in your lap. (Sometimes literally - the stage is unusually shaped and on the small side and actors have been known to fall off during rehearsal...) It seems the rotating group of directors each have their own style, but all have a wicked sense of humor and it shows. And while the quality of show can vary ever so slightly as the cast and production staff change for each show, I've never experienced a show here that wasn't highly entertaining and worth my ticket price.

I saw the Center Stage Players doing a street performance during a summer Gallery Hop. They were…read moreplaying show tunes from Little Shop of Horrors. I'm not much for show tunes, but they seemed to have a pretty fair gathering. Their performance wasn't half bad, but they were absurdly loud, like ear-bleeding loud. They were really belting it out. It didn't help that their amp was echoing off the neighboring buildings. I felt bad for the other street performers who were being totally overshadowed. Despite Center Stage's disregard of the city sound ordinance, I'm a big fan of community theatre and would love to see one of their traditional live shows. They billed Rocky Horror last month. It seems like everyone around here grabs onto that story. The venue is appealing as well. They perform at Axis nightclub. Tickets are usually under $20 and can be purchased at the door the night of the event or online beforehand.
