We contacted Persimmon Point Marine last spring about some maintenance for our smaller Tahoe 450 TS…read morepowerboat. It was our first spring season since we had purchased the boat, and we needed routine seasonal maintenance, impeller replacement, and to have a dented propeller swapped out. There are so many marinas near our home off the South River that it can be difficult to know who to trust with repairs. We were very glad that we found the folks at Persimmon Point. They were very professional and efficient, and very patient about explaining all we needed to know as new boat owners. It is a family-run business. They are very easy to work with, and they run an honest shop.

I learned more working with Alex over the phone about good boat maintenance than I could have hoped for. We had them pick up a used boat that we were thinking of buying and take it into the shop to get checked out. Alex gave us an honest assessment of the boat, a three very reasonable quotes for good, better, and top-tier options to fix it so that we could make the best decision for our self's. While we did not end up buying this boat, we have worked with a lot of mechanics over the years, and will keep making the drive to Persimmon Point because our experience was that good. Highly recommended 10/10

He even worked on a weekend as the situation was an emergency. He's extremely knowledgeable and persistent; worked until the issue was resolved. A rarity among mechanics and electronics technicians, Chris has a passion for the technical stuff and loves the challenge. He comped me a few hours work when he was troubleshooting as we went down a few false paths in the process of elimination. Chris of Dockside has been the only vendor of any kind to call and follow up post-service. He is also very professional, polite, and owns the right tools and equipment. I'm grateful I was able to hire him. Highly recommended.

I used Chesapeake Dockside Services in Annapolis, Maryland for many years for maintenance on my…read moreboat. I had a great relationship with Chris (the owner) and Rob over the years. For most of that time, service was solid -- they generally showed up on time, were helpful, and I paid every bill promptly. We had a good relationship for a long time. Over the last year or two, though, things slipped noticeably. They started showing up haphazardly, often not on the days they promised, and it would take a week to a few weeks to get any email confirmation or follow-up. Communication became very spotty. That came to a head when I was selling my boat and needed a tachometer issue fixed -- the engine was over-revving. I contacted Chris directly, explained it was time-sensitive because the boat was being surveyed for sale, and was told I'd be added to the list and taken care of quickly. Instead, I waited five weeks with no update, emailed twice with no response, and finally had to call the office myself to ask what the delay was. That's when Austin told me Chris and Rob were both out on vacation at the same time, leaving him as the only guy handling everything -- with zero communication to me beforehand that there'd be any delay. I was told a tech would come out that Monday. Austin confirmed he'd be there. He never showed. When I followed up Thursday, he said he'd just gotten busy and never made it out -- his response was basically, "good luck, I hope it turns out okay for you." The pre-sale survey happened before the tachometer was ever fixed. As a direct result, I had to lower the overall price of the boat and create a $2,000 seller's allowance during negotiations. I lost several thousand dollars because they didn't show up and fix the problem like they said they would. Despite a decade of loyalty and on-time payments, the lack of communication and missed commitments during a time-sensitive repair left me feeling like I was no priority whatsoever, and that our long-standing relationship didn't matter at all. I felt betrayed, and this growing pattern of unprofessionalism and lack of caring has reached a point where I would not recommend them, nor would I ever use their services again if I get another boat. You're paying a premium and getting low-budget service.
