Surely it wasn't the experience, I've had great experience. A friend suggested I try working with Kris, a career coach who would be able to help me with my resume. I thought, why not, I must be doing something wrong here. We met at a coffee shop after I had sent her my current resume. In the most polite way, she ripped it apart. She clearly outlined the steps needed to fix my resume, and gave me a quote then and there. I was sold! Even though she admitted to never working on a resume in my profession before (audio production), she was all in. We set up successive phone meetings to talk about my resume. She is really concerned about getting the resume to read like "my story." She took the time to understand the 'audio lingo' necessary for my resume. Not after long I had a completely rewritten resume that was polished, concise and 1,000 times better than I could have written. I've always found it hard to write about my accomplishments. Instead of trying to improve weaknesses in a career setting, strength finder teaches how to utilize your strengths. I did find a wonderful CERTIFIED coach and it's a world of difference. They're positive and upbeat and definitely know what they are talking about. I had also hired her for tutoring my son some years ago and to help my daughter with essay writing for college application. While I appreciated her help with my son, I didn't realize she hired college and HS students to tutor the kids while charging the rates that she does. More recently I hired a math tutor for my son, paying the same rate, but it was one on one tutoring, and there definitely was a difference. To each their own, but not the sort of place or person I want to do business with.
