Affection Florist is so much more than a florist. From the very beginning, Charmaine took the time to truly get to know me, and because of that, she and her incredibly talented team created a wedding that exceeded anything I could have imagined. They didn't just provide flowers--they created an entire atmosphere. Every detail was breathtaking, from the stunning floral arrangements to the gorgeous décor, chandeliers, sweetheart table, head table, and every single guest table. I genuinely felt like I had stepped into a fairytale. Throughout the wedding and even days afterward, our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful everything was. I honestly don't know how they pulled it all together, but they are absolute artists at what they do. On top of their incredible talent, they were communicative, responsive, organized, and wonderful to work with throughout the entire planning process. My biggest piece of advice: trust Charmaine's vision. She has an amazing eye for design, and letting her creativity shine was one of the best decisions I made. We contracted with this provider for our wedding on August 15, and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue was not simply that some floral arrangements fell short of our expectations, but the combination of poor communication, inconsistent commitments, lack of personal involvement from the owner, and pricing that did not feel justified by the final service. We would strongly encourage couples to carefully consider these issues and NOT choose to work with them. 1. Very poor communication: Before booking, Charmine, the owner of the business presented herself as experienced, passionate about her work, and encouraged us to reach out with questions. After we paid our deposit, however, she repeatedly ignored our messages and told us she was too busy to respond for two weeks, despite our wedding being only about a month away. 2. Inconsistent commitments: The contract required us to finalize the arrangements 30 days before our wedding. When we contacted Charmine with questions in early July, she told us she was too busy and could only respond after two weeks--which would have left us only two days before the contractual deadline to finalize everything. We therefore asked whether she could try to contact us earlier, and she offered to extend our deadline by 15 days, so we agreed on not contacting her for the two weeks. However, she later reversed that agreement and claimed that the extension was no longer applicable simply because she had been able to contact us 3 days before the original deadline. When we reminded her of the extension she had explicitly agreed to, she refused to honor it and characterized our concerns as being "confrontational." 3. Lack of accountability and communication: Charmine repeatedly focused on defending herself rather than addressing our specific questions and concerns. For example, we contacted her three separate times regarding a change to the arch decorations, but received no response. After the two-week period during which she had said she was unavailable, she finally contacted us but appeared unaware of the change we had requested. Rather than acknowledging that our messages had gone unanswered, she blamed us for expecting her to show us the previous design, which was not what we had asked for. She also described her work as "art," which felt particularly ironic given that she did not personally appear at our wedding at all. We had expected to work with the person who had presented us with her experience, expertise, and creative vision, yet she was completely absent on the wedding day. 4. Pricing did not match the service received: Some services felt significantly overpriced relative to what was actually delivered. For example, we were charged $2.50 per flower cone, yet the cones prepared by her team ultimately contained only about five plain white flower petals each. 5. Credit to the on-site staff: We do want to acknowledge that the staff who actually came to our wedding were responsive, professional, and receptive to our feedback. When we pointed out issues, they made some changes immediately. We appreciate their efforts, even though several of the floral decorations were still not satisfactory. However, to our surprise, Charmaine still tried to contact us during our honeymoon complaining about us asking the staff to help moving some of the decorations, which should be their job. I want to start by saying that I truly enjoyed my planning process with Charmaine. She was quick to respond, educated on which flowers would be in season & would look the best, and had tips/tricks about setting up decorations at my venue since she had previously worked with them. However, on the wedding day, the flowers and bouquets that were delivered were NOT the flowers that had been discussed for months leading up to the big day. Our color scheme was whites and blues, but on wedding day, we were given purple flowers and zero blue hydrangeas within the bouquets and decorative pieces. The arrangements were beautiful, but not the color scheme we asked for and talked about which was very disappointing. In addition, I collected bud vases (to match my style) to use as centerpieces. There are multiple back-and-forth conversations with Charmaine about the quantity of vases she thought I would need for each table, and that I was thrifting my own. The team took it upon themselves to switch out mine for their own without consulting me first - on the morning of our wedding! I received a text message from Charmaine after her team had already left the venue, as I was getting my hair and makeup done, of the changes her team decided upon without speaking to me first. Because of this, my bridesmaids and my venue had to take extra time to switch things back to the way we had originally set them up - taking away time for my girls to get ready, and adding unnecessary stress to us all. Although the centerpieces could be switched back, there was nothing any of us could do about the fact that we had the wrong flowers. I reached out to Charmaine after my wedding to let her know that while her flowers were beautiful, they were not what we spoke about and I was disappointed with the result - I have not gotten a response back. read more

I previously reviewed a different florist, and this is the follow-up to that review. I placed a very large order for my 20th wedding anniversary. 100 long-cut roses, at a price north of $300. The order was placed via a popular on-line flower company, and fulfilled by a florist in Mattydale, NY. The flowers received from that Mattydale Florist were dead in just a few days. Here comes Affections Floral to the rescue. They are part of Debrucque Greenhouses in Canastota, NY. The Mattydale florist wouldn't stand behind their product, so the online flower company hired Affections to redeliver the order. The flowers Affections brought were incredible. Not only did they look fresher, the arrangement was very nice. The Mattydale flowers were effectively 100 roses in a small vase, with no "flair". The Affections order had nice greens, holly flowers for Christmas, and even a nice big bow on it. The Affections flowers made a huge statement - which is just what I was looking for for our anniversary. I would definitely do business with them again. read more

We engaged Charmaine to decorate our daughter's wedding which was held at The Cannery. We had a few suggestions as to what we were looking for and Char delivered the exact theme. It was beautiful and transformative and we were overjoyed with the results. Char is familiar with quite a few venues and you can see her work on Instagram. Be very cautious about utilizing this florist for wedding flowers. Once the deposit check was cashed, she was very uncooperative with trying to plan any details despite numerous attempts. The flowers were acceptable, however the color was wrong, we were shorted one bride's maid bouquet. #nightmareweddingflorist!!! read more

I met with this florist and the whole entire meeting was unprofessional and offputting. The owner talked herself up and talked poorly of competing businesses using specific names of businesses. I was even told as she laughed that she will purposely mark bills up higher if she does not want to work with a client and if they choose her she makes more and if not they are cheap. She also went on to tell me that her assistant will never make it in the floral industry, that she doesn't have drive and doesn't understand her doodles (that is legit how she lays out a quote. Doodles), because that's a way you should be talking about your staff. I left with a very sour taste in my mouth and an urge to contact the other businesses to let them know how another professional is speaking of them.
