The worst. You will be better off trusting your finances to the kid running your local kool aid stand. Very problematic. Affinity has a great interest rate for loans but they have zero customer service and they are borderline incompetent when posting a transaction. They have repeatedly posted payments to the wrong loan, causing the intended payment to be late. I include a payment coupon and write the loan number on the memo of my check as well. They scan a payment rather than have an employee actually key in the information and my checks are often rejected although my bank account has plenty of money. When they tell me they will 'hold' the money for 5 days, I ask them to call my bank to verify the funds are indeed available and just hand key it into their system. They can't or won't, but have no problem collecting their fees. This last time they put our VISA payment into our savings for hold because after just scanning my payment, the computer said we lacked the funds. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I verified the funds with my bank and then called Affinity and gave them my banker's name to confirm and get my payment posted. They did not follow through after saying they would and it isn't a problem[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They had put our money into our Affinity savings and said it would automatically make the payment in 5 days. It did not and now the payment is late. Again! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Affinity is unapologetic and blames the picture on my check. Ran into some financial troubles and they were unwilling to help me restructure my payments so they Repossessed by vehicle that I only owed $8500 on and are claiming that I now owe them over $41,000.00. I had Affinity points that I used and had some difficulty applying them as well. One of the worst banks in Minneapolis. I badmouth them to everyone that I know. Was a customer for a couple of years and they are highly opportunistic. Will extract every dollar from you in overdraft fees and has zero leniencies. They are predatory in everything that they do and an unethical bank. This is not a community credit union. Side note my condition is so rare only 2 doctors in this entire state have knowledge on my condition. I've had an open personal loan for almost two years with no issues, in fact I've always paid more than the minimum payment every month. Not realizing my automatic payments weren't set up, I missed a payment and it went over 30 days past due. I was not notified until my payment was 35 days late and a missed payment was reported to my credit reports. My score dropped 80+ points! I reached out to Affinity Plus management only to find out they're absolutely unwilling to help. I would recommend finding a credit union who actually value real people instead of the image they portray. read more

They helped me get a PPP loan for my small business during the pandemic. They are always super helpful and easy to work with. I use many of their online banking features and deposit checks remotely. I tried to open a checking account at Affinity Plus. I am 82 and very hard of hearing. Amazingly, Affinity Plus does not accept in-person appointments at my local branch - they say you have to "drop in." I reluctantly drove five miles to "drop in" and the line of customers was to the door! I would have had to stand in line God knows how long just to make an appointment. I had planned to move all my banking, beyond just my checkiing account, to Affinity - but that will not happen. Edited review 9/10/20 I updating this review to three stars because they did refund the hidden fee because I had not been given the chance to say yes or no prior to the transfer as promised. The difference was that it was on a business account and not a personal account. So be warned, the consumer protections one might rely on don't apply to a business account. (Considering how badly things went because of that, I'd say not treating both account types the same is not working well for them.) -- I had this company send a wire transfer to England. They claimed 'no fee' with using points but charged me a 3.3% hidden fee on the currency conversion through wells fargo! It was $80. Ridiculous. They would not make it right. Edit - they did make it right. There was some talk that the receiving bank was the one that required Wells Fargo. It was a confusing explanation. I was told several times that I would have a chance to approve the wire before it was sent. It was sent without my approval. Edit - It turns out this promised review is true only for a personal account. There is zero recourse on a business account - it will just be sent. Be wary of those. I'll not be using them for bank transfers in the future, but for sure if I have to do any fancy transactions they are going through my personal account. read more

I have only had positive experiences with each location but this branch is the one I use most when I am unable to bank online(rolls of quarters). Absolute awful service if you plan to pay for anything from a company outside of the US. I have regular transactions with a company in Germany and Every time I need to call to unlock my card since they I do not have a way to authorize the specific vendor for future purchases. This has resulted in a lost of funds and I am unable to get transactions processed on time. Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union seems to get the message and has never provided me any issues on this matter. I plan to be switching my services to this other credit union that has my needs in mind. read more

Don't trust these people. They don't care. After BEGGING for some kind of leniency while I find a new job, they denied me any kind of help. Had to share this with one cuz it's kinda unbelievable... So I get a call from someone at the Credit union. They ask me if I'm the person she'd been emailing with? I don't know what she's talking about. The banker then says, "so you're not the person who's nephew died suddenly? You're not in Singapore?" I respond with "I'm thinking I need to come down the credit union and talk with someone since this doesn't sound good." Seems that Affinity wired my $20,000 to someone in Singapore. Five days of emails back and forth with the random person in Singapore and it wasn't until after they wired the money that they thought maybe they should try to call me. Money was put back in my account and I was compensated for mileage and lost wages because it took multiple trips to the police precinct to file a police report and a couple trips to the credit union office to do the paperwork. Affinity gets five stars for making it right but they get one star for not managing their employees better. Side note, the teller who effed up doesn't work there anymore and I think this is now a training scenario. Do I still bank with Affinity? Yes, because with my history there, I imagine my accounts are scrutinized so it'll never happen again. read more

AF+ is a great bank! If you need to meet with a banker, they are fantastic! The products and services they offer are great too, and they can even print you a new Visa card right in the bank so you don't have to wait for weeks to be mailed one! That said, the lobby is always packed, the online banking is a total joke, and the mobile app's only useful function is to take up space on your phone. Calling their hotline usually connects you to a jerk. But! If you visit in person to talk to someone, you will leave feeling all warm and fuzzy inside! read more

I can't say enough great things about Affinity Plus. I've been banking with them since I was 16 years old and although I've moved in and out of Minnesota I've never given up my account. They provide such terrific service - truly, the best service, from any provider of any type (restaurant, retail, financial, etc.) I've ever had: helpful, funny, friendly, consistent. Case in point: I recently applied for an auto loan. I could choose to apply online, call in or chat with an agent via the website. I chatted my way through the loan process. Because of the rapport that the agent and I built with each other, she offered me a better rate than my credit deserved. She's since guided me through the rest of the process and has continued to be a terrific help. (Thanks, Amy!) In addition to the great service, Affinity Plus just doesn't screw you the same way most banks will (e.g., terrific loan rates). Just spoke with an "Advisor" about rebuilding credit because i had a bankruptcy two years ago. She asked "Why would you want to apply for a credit card?". My response, "To show that I'm now responsible with my finances and to build up my credit for my future, that I'd like to buy a home in a couple of years." She then said, "We recommend you don't try rebuilding your credit for at least 6 or 7 years after a bankruptcy." I had a bad mark on my credit report, because someone had me as an Authorized Signer on a loan, unknowingly. This loan was discharged in a bankruptcy 2 years prior and the advisor said it was still current. I can only imagine her thoughts must have been since it shows up on the credit report it must be a current debt. I told her an Authorized Signer is not legally responsible for debt, so she left and went to talk to her manager and came back and said i was wrong, that "an Authorized Signer IS RESPONSIBLE for the debt", and that they wouldn't offer to extend me a Credit Card with them. [The truth= an authorized signer is not responsible for debt, only an account owner is. An Account Owner is someone who signed up as primary or joint holder of the account.] I "Advise" people to not look to Affinity Plus for anything involving building your future, when their Advisors dismiss an attempt at rebuilding credit, spread misinformation and are not familiar with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). BTW: to people looking to rebuild credit after a bankruptcy. There is no need to wait 6 or 7 years, just start with a Secured Credit Card, Store CC or gas card and if you show a good history, within about 12-15 months you will qualify for an Unsecured Credit Card and be able to build a good history again. read more

I have received nothing but the best service from Affinity Plus. I have always had excellent exchanges with tellers and I have always been helped efficiently and politely using their online chat or by making a phone call. I can't tell you how nice it is to be at a banking institution where you actually feel like you matter and are important. This credit union is wonderful to work with for all issues. I moved my car loan to them because I found that they were just so easy to work with and it was a breeze to get the paperwork transferred. I always feel that they try to bend over backwards even if you made a mistake. I would give 0 stars if I could. I am extremely disappointed. They promote that if you use "my plus rewards" you will be able to actually get money from that. I applied to get $100 southwest after accuring my points.. I waited the 72 hours stated and it still haven't arrived... an e gift card(shouldn't be that hard). I had to call them(they didn't reach out) to find out where that was. They said for some reason it never got sent and they would send it again.. I waited and as days went past flight prices increased. I finally called again after 72 hours and they said they refunded my points... I waited this time(now has been an entire week) and all they did was give me my points back. That doesn't account for the extra $70 dollars my ticket now is waiting for their system to work. Fantastic credit union. Fast, friendly, and supportive service. And it's a credit union and not a big bank using your money for nefarious purposes. You are a member in a cooperative effort to get the most out of your money, and not being used so your bank can shake the most dollars out of you. Who you let hold your money matters in the bigger picture. Credit unions have a long Minnesota history that is founded on the idea that they are part of building an ethical economy, and not in the business of lining the pockets of their stock holders and using your money for risky investments that lead to market crashes. I've had TCF, Wells Fargo and other big bank accounts, and none match the service and quality of what Affinity Plus gives to its members and the community. read more

Affinity Plus might be more invasive than the TSA. A family member had written me a personal check, and they bank with Affinity Plus. When I took the Affinity check to Affinity Plus Credit Union, the teller refused to cash them since I didn't bank there myself. I had cashed a check from this same family member at this exact Affinity Plus location only a month prior. I had proper identification and the checks were signed by the same person/credit union member, and were not some excessive amount that would cause the teller to be suspicious.She said they had to call the Affinity Plus Member to verify, which when I explained that if she was using the home phone, no one would be there to answer since they are at work (the person writing the check is my aunt, and I know her schedule). I recited the telephone number to the teller, and she said she couldn't verify or deny that that was the number she was using. I told her she would have better luck trying a cell phone number, to which again, she couldn't tell me if she had that number on file and couldn't accept it from me (since obviously I'm trying to pull some shenanigan...). That part I can kind of understand. But if I can recite the phone numbers and they match what they have on file, I'm not sure what the problem is. With no viable options and the complete stonewalling from the teller, it was obvious we were getting no where, so I took the checks and my ID back and promptly called my aunt to discuss what had just happened. Luckily, she works right by the downtown branch. She talked with someone at this branch about what an inconvenience this new policy was, not only for me, but for her as well. She said that it makes it look like her check is not valid, or that she doesn't have enough money to cash a check she writes, and she simply doesn't understand the point of even writing a check if they are going to need her verbal confirmation to cash a check she has endorsed. She asked that for the time being, to put a note in their file to cash checks written to me without a phone call. So, I went back to Affinity the following morning, and this time I was told I had to provide my fingerprints to get the checks cashed. SERIOUSLY?! My fingerprints?! Then as I was about to leave, the teller said "So, you're (so & so's) niece?" Having never mentioned the memo in the file about cashing checks written to me, I was a little weirded out that she would just say that for seemingly no reason. I already had the money, they had my ID copied (and my fingerprints, for whatever reason). The transaction was complete...why bring that up now, as I'm turning away to leave? It just seemed odd like she was trying to "catch me" or throw me off guard or something. I still can't figure that part out. Bottom line: It is a disappointing aspect of customer service to have a policy in place for which a check issued from this establishment cannot be redeemed. The member signature is on file, I have the proper ID, and the check is from Affinity Plus. That's really all it should take. Let's just say, should I decide to stay in the Twin Cities (my living situation here is temporary, which is why I'm cashing the checks instead of just depositing them to a local bank) I'm not sure I would be particularly inclined to open an account here. read more

Every time I come in here to try to set up a bank account, I get ignored by all the bankers standing around and chatting. They all see me and don't even ask if I've been helped or anything. I have a tight schedule so I usually come in an hour before work and it's really frustrating when I have to sit for 20 minutes before anyone comes up to me. I have never had a worse experience than with these fucks. I refinanced with them a few years ago, and I started to get late notices. Weird, because I've never been late. So I called and asked what was up and the CSR said it didn't show I had any late payments and I was good. Great! But then I kept getting late notices and the late fees were adding up. I contact them several more times. Most of the time they said the same thing as the first CSR I talked to, but if that was true, why were the late fees continuously going up? When I asked this to more than one of the people I talked to, they said they'd get back to me. They didn't. Every few months I would call because it really pissed me off seeing these notices constantly. Finally, a CSR said if I was using an outside bank to pay (I was), things may just not be getting processed right away, but I was never actually late. So I decided to set my automatic payments to early than the last few days of the previous month, because if I paid ten days before the beginning of the month I should be gold right? Nope. Late notice again. I contact them again and they said I didn't pay until the 23rd of September which was past the grace period. I looked at my bank statements to make sure everything went through since I made the change, and it had. My September payment was processed on August 26. My October payment was processed on September 23rd. Yes, that's right. These idiots can't keep track of shit and decided my early payments were late payments. So I told them to get their shit together and the CSR said they were still working with mortgage. Fine. They said they'd contact me by the end of day. Great. They didn't, like every damn time I've talked to them about their ridiculous late notices. I literally don't understand how they're all so fucking stupid. A pox on all of them! read more

We got roped into our house being sold through this ridiculous business through the buyer. It was a complete cluster. We now live 4 and a half hours from where our house was being sold. Affinity insisted we needed to travel to one of their branches to sign the sale documents before a notary. The closest branch is two hours away and they let us know this needed to happen with a pretty short notice for getting time off of work. We arranged to have them overnight the documents to us and we made a weekend plan to go back to our old hometown and meet on a Saturday at one of the branches. Except when we got the documents, my name was misspelled throughout. They needed to forward a whole new set to the branch we were meeting at. The person we worked with at the local branch went over the paperwork and we signed off in advance of the close date. The close is supposed to happen tomorrow. We got a call THIS MORNING from the loan person saying she had forgotten to include her $8000 plus closing costs in the documents! Now,we had agreed to pay a 3% close and an additional 1% to a realtor who had helped initiate the process. When we added the figures coming out at close, from the original documents we signed in person plus this surprise additional charge, it exceeds 4% by a pretty good chunk of change. We emailed her asking for an explanation but she pretty much snootily replied "That's what you owe". Wow..how do you forget to include your costs???! If we didn't just want to have this over with we would let this close fall through. Oh-and for some reason it was fine to e-sign this document. No travel or notary needed! This place is crooked and apparently from the other reviews I've read, staffed with incompetent people. Avoid at all costs! read more
