The ownership has changed over from Briggs. The new owners hired inexperienced groomers. I took my dog in for a bath only. She came out with her eyes sealed shut. We had to go to the emergency vet and have multiple follow up vet visits after the fact. She had a chemical ulcer in her eyes from something used during the bath. Among the list of products provided to me - one product was Dawn dish soap used on her ears. My dog could not tell me that she was in pain. She could not tell me she was hurting - but I knew she was scared. I was scared for her - what owner wouldn't feel terrified and responsible that the place they brought their dog to for a simple BATH provided her back not being able to see and whimpering? I was worried she would be blind for the rest of her life when it took actual WEEKS (2 weeks) for her to get out of a cone and the bet to allow us to stop using eye drops and her eyes to dilate as they are supposed to. The business has NOT reimbursed us for the vet bills nor for the bath that caused the vet bills.  The owners challenged us on the emergency vet papers we had sent over asking where they were at fault in the vet notes. As the vet was not there at the time of the grooming to see the product get in her eyes - legally she could not make the statement that the groomer did this to our dog. I understand this and I'm sure any business owner understands this. The groomer however, asked my husband to re-read what the vet stated and asked where they were at fault. Our time stamped video of our dog prior to drop off that day as well as the time stamped photos of her that day at pick up was what helped us out. It was clear the problem happened at their place of business. My last problem came when my personal "integrity" was challenged. I placed a photo of Finley in a cone on my personal Facebook page and stated "Thanksgiving 2020 looks about right". The response was a flood on concern from family and friends asking what happened to our girl. Never once did a share the groomers business name, as I do believe in integrity. However the business owner called my personal Facebook post into question during a discussion with my husband stating it was in poor taste. It is interesting someone would question my moral compass  for posting something on my personal page when I could have easily have written a review first without ever giving the business a chance to make it right gracefully. Now that I understand the business doesn't handle anything gracefully, I feel better about writing an honest review here and warning others to not take a pet here. read more

I have been happy with our grooming here, but in the year since we have been going prices have increased tremendously. Our grooming is now $15 more than it was one year ago. It says on the website that the prices have increased but an increase of 20% is ridiculous. Especially for loyal customers. I do like the ease of scheduling online, and they do a decent job, but in my opinion , the grooming isn't worth the price. Their prices are now what I paid for grooming at an entirely organic salon when we lived in Jacksonville. You could definitely find a better value, but I have nothing bad at all to say about the services, it just has hit the wallet unexpectedly hard. read more

Do not use them. My poor pup got shaved down around his bottom and privates; we had to go to the Vet for relief. He was in SO much pain (scooting on his bottom and constantly licking himself. I did not want him to get an infection.) It was a rough 3 days after the groomers. It should be a positive experience but instead, we had to monitor him until his pain subsided. Sad! read more

Wonderful! Called the night before got me right in for my Rottweiler. Dropped him @ 8 had him back by 11am. He looked great. People are very nice and seemed to really care. When they say "walkins welcome" they mean only for a nail trim. Pretty misleading!! They generally do a good job but pretty disappointing to be turned away at 1PM when there website and door clearly says walkins welcome!! read more

We were visiting Charleston, from Edmonton Alberta, Canada. We found a magazine called " MOUNT PLEASANT" there was a full section of " the best of good and services in and around Charleston. The best pet groomer was "aFORTable Grooming. So I called and we took in our West Highland Terrier "Molly" and our Scottish Terrier "McDuff". We have them both groomed on a regular bases. Never before have they looked so good! I wish I could take this groomer home with me. Thank you so much for giving my pets back looking so good!!!!! We would highly recommend this groomer. read more

Took our dogs to Afortable Grooming yesterday for the first time. Chose them based on reviews, location and availability. We moved here 3 weeks ago and our dogs were in desperate need! I do not recommend Afortable Grooming. This is the second time I have had an issue that the owner and employees refuse to accept. First issues was a few months back when I showed them pictures of my dog to explain exactly what we wanted as far as cutting the ears and such. I also explained to not touch the top knot curl that Boykin Spaniel have. After that being said they cut and rounded his ears very short unlike any pictures I showed and cut his top knot off completely. The owner and groomer refused to accept accountability and said there is nothing they could do now. Worse customer service and zero lack of care. I had to ask them to make this right and all they offered was $5 off the next groom. I gave them another chance and today they sent him home with a bloody badly clipped nail. Because his leash was in my car, I carried him to the car and didn't notice until the ride home that there was blood all over my seat. His nail was clipped badly to the quik. I called the salon to ask if they had noticed this and Kim and the groomer Krystal denied all claims of this happening and said it must have happened in the car which is impossible. Kim said "well the groomer did notice him pawing at the kennel". I asked if this was before or after she cut his nails and she said that was beside the point and irrelevant. I am mind blown and they said that they would be happy for me to find another groomer. They did not once apologize or accept responsibility and refused to make the situation right. I am so terribly disappointed with their lack of professionalism. They also raised their prices without stating that beforehand and told me "this is what we are charging you today". Krystal did not seem happy when I first dropped him off and would not look me in the eye. There was no sweet talk or kindness toward my dog she just put her collar/leash around his neck and "said come on Charlie" did not greet him or pet him first. Also, no one greets or acknowledges you when you are standing at the desk waiting. When I called back to ask what email I should send the pictures of his bloody nail and blood on my car seats, they ignored my phone call twice. Good riddance! read more

I've been going here for three years - today was the last day I step into that groomers. They have become rude and demanding. Today I called at 12:20 and a appointment was available I rushed my dog over for a 12:30 appointment because I had not properly done the online part. I got there at 12:38. I witnessed a groomer slamming a dog into a cage and when this same person came to check me in. She slammed her hand down and said "you will be charged a late charge" I explained the last minute appointment. Her response. As of January 1st if your late your charged. . I was like "that's it's are you kidding?" Her response. Good bye. Are you freakin kidding me - I've recommended them but no more. I have seen the decrease in truly wanting to take care of a dog in fact I had to take my dog to the vet this month to have her anals done because we they didn't do it and said they did. read more

I've never written a bad review, but after today's experience I feel it's warranted. I phoned, got the answering machine and left a message. When a woman called back, I asked if they were familiar with grooming my particular breed of dog. She responded curtly that they were. In fact, I was taken aback by her tone when I inquired what a basic grooming included. After she quickly rattled off her answer, I was so flustered, I told her thank you and hung up. I normally don't write reviews, but I was so disappointed with this service that I felt this was necessary. I took my 6 month old goldendoodle for his first haircut and asked for a simple trim (only around his eyes, paws, and bum). When I picked him up she had cut his entire body, including shaving his entire underside "private" area. While I was very displeased with the look of the haircut, it was the severe razor burn that was my main concern. It became so bad that I had to take him to the vet, and he had to be put on medication and wear a cone for an entire week. I went back to Afortable Grooming later to explain what happened and showed her my dog's sores resulting from the grooming. Rather than apologizing and taking responsibility for her own actions, she tried to make it seem like it was my dog's and my fault (the customer). In the end, the only thing I was offered was a free future haircut... The lack of customer service, accountability, and personalization, was very disappointing, especially from a local business. read more
