I got my very first tattoo here, with Lisa. She did an excellent job perfecting the very niche, rugged artstyle I wanted. It had to look handdrawn, and she captured it perfectly. She was very informative at all stages of the process, and very helpful considering this was my first tattoo. She takes her time, and makes sure that it's done the right way. A friend recommended ATG and I wanted to conquer this fear of mine...lol, and she came with me. I was nervous as this was my first! I have a bit to learn, as I was a walkin. GREAT vibe from moment we opened the door. Ruth was there inviting us in. After initial explanation that I was looking to get my first, Wes welcomed me into the drawing studio and he asked me about things I didn't consider like style, placement, size, etc. He was very patient. I certainly hope I wasn't a pain (p.i.t.a.). Lol. Thankfully, my friend was with me to assist and help guide me. I sent two ideas and pic of my son I was honoring. And he ran with it. The piece was simple, but impactful for me. LYLB (standing for,'Love You, Later, Bye', what we texted, said in person or ph call), his signed first name and a dragonfly. Came in for a Second piece. Wes did my add on and I can't be happier. Not only did he do it freehand, he did it quickly, accurately, and did I mention CLEAN AF! I'm from California and whenever I come and visit family, I always try to make a stop here for a piece. And of the artists here will give you an amazing piece. You are in great hands. I came in today for a add on. I didn't give Wes much direction because I didn't know what I really want. It is hard when you want everything (haha). I am a tattoo snob. I did my research and chose Lisa Murphy at Against the Grain. Alas, she was booked for weeks and I am here on vacation. Alex was available, and spent a great deal of time and attention discussing my idea. The piece he produced for me is exactly what I wanted, only 100 times better. He was friendly and easy to talk to during the nearly-four-hour tattoo, and impeccably clean. I had tears in my eyes when I saw the completed work. Just beautiful. The shop does not to piercings and has zero flash. Every piece is custom drawn. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the work. I can't wait to come back next summer and get more work done. I got my first tattoo here (along with my sister-in-law) a couple years ago. Sister-in-law, another friend, and I came back last month for another tattoo. This time Lisa did them. She is awesome! She has perfect attention to sanitation and every effort was made to insure that all instruments and surrounding area were CLEAN. As for the tattoo itself . . . it is perfect! I emailed her a picture of my cat and she replicated it down to every detail. It couldn't look more like my own cat. I love it and I show it off to just about everyone I meet. read more

I first went in for a free consultation to let Tori know about the piece I was wanting to get and she was very welcoming and knowledgeable which made the process very easy. When I went back to actually get the tattoo she had made a few adjustments which really ended up turning out better than my original idea! The whole experience was really great. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was very cool, and it was pretty busy the day I went in which made me feel better about the quality since it seemed like a place that a lot of people wanted to get their tattoos done. There are only a handful of legit shops in Brevard, and these peeps are at the top of the list. They are active in the tattoo community and are respected by their peers. Those people looking for cheap and fast tattoos should look elsewhere. read more

If I could give this review LESS than one star, I would. Let me tell you why. My husband and I wanted to get our beloved dog Roxy's actual paw print tattooed as part of our healing. It had only been a week after her passing when we went into Against The Grain. Lisa came to meet us and discuss what we wanted to get. She was booked until December but said Alex just had a cancellation and had an opening that Friday. Lisa tells Alex that she got us scheduled, what we were getting and he agreed. My husband had a job that night but rescheduled it so we could get in as opposed to waiting. They were also fully aware of this as it was discussed in front of them both. We show up for our appointments at 7:00 and Alex is busy tattooing someone else. The girl at the front desk (who was completely out if it) said she had been trying to call us for the last hour to reschedule. We checked the # she had which was correct. We NEVER got any calls! Alex proceeds to tell us how Lisa felt sympathetic towards our situation and squeezed us in. That was NOT the case. He had a cancellation! He then tells us how he can't get us in because he has another hour and a half of work ahead of him. He never bothered to get up and apologize and seemed very unsympathetic and arrogant. Needless to say, we were both upset and asked for our deposits back since he was making NO accommodations to get us in any time soon. I've gotten tattoos prior from Lisa (who's great for the record) and Alex who ironically was also trying to push me off that night as well and left a bad taste in my mouth. Our conclusion is that he doesn't like doing the smaller jobs and when he has the opportunity to get someone else in that's getting more work done, the smaller jobs become irrelevant and so does the persons feelings. This is no reflection on the shop as a whole or Lisa but if you want someone with a heart, don't go to Alex! A night that was supposed to be one of healing turned into a nightmare. We will NEVER recommend him to anyone! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I was visiting the area for the weekend and thought I would get a new tattoo while I was here. I came in on a Friday night and talked to Tom who gave me an appt for the following day (he could have done me right then but I wanted to wait). I explained what I wanted on Friday night and came in Saturday and he was already drawing something up for me. He was so patient and accommodating for me. We tweaked what he did and then he got me right in. I was extremely nervous as I hadn't had a tattoo in seven years and again he was so patient with me and very professional. My husband has several tattoos from all over the country and he also was impressed with the place. I'm sure we'll be back soon so my husband can get one from Tom. Everyone at the place was very friendly, don't think you can go wrong with the place! read more

This place really sucks for big projects like full backs or sleeves and custom work. The problem is this place has artists that are unsure what to transform your ideas into masterpieces. I went there for two tattoos after extensive research. Lisa and Alex were cool. Wes was an a**hole. I still decided to go with Wes cause of the rep I heard about him. Wrong choice! The dude's attitude was terrible. I'm a cool guy that doesn't take things personal so I booked a couple of appointment dates. They will not book more than 2 appointment dates at a time. I gave Wes a lot of references cause that's what they request and I also like to be sure of what I want. It took Wes 4 different appointment dates to finish my 2 tattoos on both shoulders. I am not returning there cause on my last session Wes dug too deep on my 4th session and left me with a nasty scar. The ink fell out as well. I sit real still and don't talk at all not do I complain so that was all on Wes. He also doesn't show you what he's going to ink on you until the day of the appointment when you get there. So if you want any changes, then that time you have booked will be spent redrawing or you may be given a cancellation to book again which could be 2 months later. This place is not professional in how they handle people. They all get away with this type of treatment to their clients cause most just put up with it or decide not to go anywhere else for whatever reason. I got no reason to throw Wes under the bus cause I'm heavily tatted. I have a full back and a full chest done with crazy detail from another artist who I truly think is much better than Wes. Wes is good with portraits but that's it. His other work is mediocre. Lisa and Wes are decent artists but they doe a lot of new school stuff. My artwork is photo realistic with over 40 hours completed. I even had to have the work Wes did fixed up cause like I said before the ink fell out where he scarred me. His reason was that my skin is too dark and he had to go deeper. That's BULLSH*T !! Really Wes? Don't go there!! They got better spots in Cocoa or Orlando. read more
