Whenever they have a concern, they reach out to us and work collaboratively to help our daughter grow. (Such a change from her last daycare, where all we heard was she was doing 'fine.') Similarly, when she accomplishes something new, they're eager to share the news, and so proud of her! The staff at ELDC is in tune with the needs of their charges, and they build their lesson plans around ensuring the kids have the sort of experiences that will help them the most. This doesn't come in the form of dull lectures, but in games, art projects, and exploration. Our daughter has learned so many wonderful, practical skills since attending. Putting on her shoes, for example. The staff models kindness, hard work, and helpfulness to the kids, and the kids respond to that. What I love most about ELDC is how involved the staff is. This isn't a place where the adults stand off to the side looking at their phones while the kids entertain themselves. They're reading them books, dancing with them, teaching them songs, conducting experiments. Every day at ELDC is an adventure! In short, my shy daughter runs into school with a smile on her face. The administration is a total unprofessional disaster! Weeks had two openings in Preschool and offered my daughter one. We accepted the spot, paid fees up front, unenrolled her from her current school. Three weeks after getting a class list with her teachers and schoolmates names and request to purchase over $100 worth of items for her to start (blankets, emergency flashlight, rain boots, slippers etc) - and one week before her start date- we get an email (not even a phone call!!) that they were revoking her spot because a family had decided to keep their kid in the program and the spot was no longer available. I do not even think this is true- I think they had an admin error. They refused to speak to us on the phone, barely even apologized, then chastised us for getting upset! I would never trust this place with my kids in a million years based on the horrendous disorganization and complete disregard and disrespect for both us and our 3.5 year old. Sure, people say the teachers are great, but what's that worth if a confirmed spot in the class is retractable via email?!

The curriculum is well thought out and incorporates our values. The other parents are wonderful. The school's hours work well with our work schedules. My son eats healthy and nutritious food thanks to the FareStart catering. And the location is wonderful - right next to Green Lake so the kids have easy access to the outdoors! Having gone through the day care search process and researched/ called / visited dozens of them in Seattle, I realized how difficult it was to find a pleasant & reliable care provider as a first-time parent, and I feel so grateful to have my child enrolled at CLCC, a gem in the U District that stands out among its peers. Here are a few highlights that come on top of my mind: 1. The teachers and staff express genuine affection and interest in the children. I can see my child feels very happy and safe around them. Even on her first day, my 15-month old quickly established connection with her teachers. And within a few weeks, she became very much attached to them and was even interacting cheerfully with the teachers from the elder classrooms. 2. Diverse activities throughout the day to engage the children in learning, singing, dancing, art, walking around the campus, reading books, etc and I love it that they encourage the kids to express themselves in different activities and social scenarios. They thoughtfully kept a collection of my toddler's "art work" over the past few month to bring home, which is cute and precious. 3. The children learn to practise a lot of basic life skills in their daily routine. From taking off jacket/shoes and placing them in the right place in the morning, to sitting properly for meals/snacks at table, cleaning up after meal, washing hands before/after meals, to taking out blanket for afternoon nap, etc. I was totally impressed when I watched a roomful of kids doing these all by themselves at a lunch visit. 4. Very accessible & responsive administration. Michelle, the director, was really fast at responding to enrolment inquiries and scheduling a tour for me(before finding CLCC, I contacted some other daycare centers that respond very slowly or sound impatient, and ask for a waiting list fee ). Fabulous job in efficiently maintaining the wait list and for replying to emails and answering the phone calls quickly. It really means a lot for parents that are anxious to nail down a good care. 5. Though it is a program of the UCUCC church, they are open to the entire community and not limited to church members, and, they don't impose religious content in the curriculum. As a non-religious person, I feel grateful to the UCUCC and the entire staff for running this excellent program and making it available to the entire community. From our very first tour, we were struck by how warm, personal, and comfortable the classrooms felt. The staff and teachers are genuinely caring, and it's clear they truly enjoy working with the kids and seeing them grow. Several staff and teachers have been at YCA for years, and it has been wonderful to see our kids form tight bonds that last even after they switch classrooms. The special classes like music, art, Spanish, drama, and Asian folktales, are so creative and exciting for the kids. We are always impressed by how thoughtfully the teachers design age-appropriate, engaging activities while still giving each child the freedom and flexibility to join in at their own pace. Teachers and administrators are consistently friendly, communicative, and supportive. We appreciate the daily photos and short write-ups, as well as the regular opportunities to check in at drop off and pick up. Our kids have made great friends, and the parent community has been welcoming and supportive. As we get ready for our start kindergarten with strong foundations in math and reading, we're grateful for everything she has learned at YCA. YCA staff seems to be really happy and I believe most of them have a degree in early childhood education. Unique to their center, they have daily special classes (music, Spanish class, art) and as an OT I appreciate their emphasis on promoting independence in self-care tasks. They also support potty training as needed, use a well-established handwriting program for their preschool class, and are very strict when it comes to preventing food allergen exposure. And they must have incredible hygiene practices or great ventilation in their building because my kids rarely got sick after joining their center. Both my children love YCA, the teachers, and the friends they've made there.

Naturally, we were skittish after the previous experience, however, we instantly fell in love with how caring and nurturing the teachers and staff were with her - making her feel immediately welcome and special. It is difficult leaving your child with just anyone and trusting that she will be loved and cared for in the same way you would care for her. Phinney Ridge CDC did just that. They encouraged her full personality, helping her gain further confidence to speak her mind, while being respectful and helping to teach her the necessary early childhood education skills through interests that she and her classmates shared. The only reason she is no longer at the school is because of our recent move to a new neighborhood. Had we remained in that area of town, she would have continued there until kindergarten. We cannot say enough about how much we love Phinney Ridge CDC - if you're in the Ballard/Fremont/Greenlake/Greenwood/Phinney area, it is a wonderful place to send your kids. The teachers are incredibly caring and truly invested in each child. Ms. Lily has built an amazing program with a great balance of learning, creativity, and fun. What really makes SLC special is how personal it feels. It's a close-knit group of teachers where you actually know everyone -- not a big, impersonal center. That warmth shows in everything they do. The activities are engaging and thoughtful, and even now our kids keep asking if they can go back and visit their teachers. We're very grateful for our time there and highly recommend it.
