We did extensive research and toured nearly ten preschools and daycares. Willow Tree immediately stood out. From the very beginning, it was clear that the director, Liu, and the entire staff were genuinely loving and attentive caregivers. From her first day, Aviana loved going to school. Her development accelerated noticeably--she made friends, gained confidence, and even happily ate the school-made lunches. We initially had questions about the Mandarin immersion program and whether it might delay Aviana's English development. Liu reassured us that the opposite would be true, explaining that children's brains at that age are "like sponges," capable of absorbing far more than we often realize. She was absolutely right. Aviana's English continued to flourish, and her Mandarin grew from zero to a working knowledge of the language--truly incredible. To sum it up: if we had to do it all over again, we would choose Willow Tree without hesitation. Two years later, we enrolled our younger daughter, Amelia, when she was just a year and a half old. She began in the Bunny class, moved on to Penguin, and is now in Tiger. She loves it. Her Mandarin is now as strong as her English, even though we speak only English at home. On more than one occasion, I've caught Amelia dreaming in Mandarin--a constant reminder of how much she has learned in such a short time. Willow Tree has provided an exceptional academic and developmental foundation for both of our girls, along with a truly welcoming and supportive community. As Amelia prepares to graduate, we know we'll remain connected through the friendships our daughters have built and the families we've come to know beyond the classroom. I'm so surprised how much Chinese she can understand and speak and she can even sing songs in Chinese. While I can speak Chinese, I usually forget to so it's great to know she's able to learn it at school. The teachers we've been exposed to at WT have all been warm and inviting. Our daughter doesn't warm easily and the transition was long and difficult but the teachers embraced her with love and care. I was a little skeptical at first to hear there were 20 kids, such a big class, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Because there are 20 kids, there are also 3-4 teachers. By having extra teachers, this helps when a kid or two are having a meltdown or just need a little extra love and attention. With some of the kids in the class being older and being able to better regulate and play with themselves, this left the extra teachers to help with the younger, new kids who needed extra help. We attended a different preschool briefly before WT where there were 7 kids and 1 teacher and that teacher seemed to just be in survival mode because they couldn't get to all the kids that needed attention or assistance. Whereas the WT teachers always seemed happy and had good energy. We also love Liu, the director. She cares deeply for the kids and brings amazing energy. It's always a joy to run into her and catch up. Your kids will be in good hands at WT!

The teachers are nice (hence 2 stars not 1) but the organization and management of the school is done based on last century's style. The curriculum does not change weekly, but monthly. How do kids not get bored listening to the same topic every day for a whole month?!! Toys are very old and outdated. The art and craft is the bare minimum. There is good reading activities it seems. I do not know about the standard teacher preschool kids ratio but the staff complains a lot about understaffed, and collectively they are prone to push kids behavior issues (where kids are just being kids) to parents who are out of the classroom to figure out.

Fast forward four months: we have an extremely happy child who lights up every day at drop off for school and is in no rush to leave at pick up time! Children cannot fake their excitement, so you know that this is genuine. The child-led philosophy of Montessori allows our son freedom in the classroom to "choose his own adventure" every day, while still providing him with a structured curriculum that has enabled him to surpass his milestones. Joining the Crown Hill 3-5s (soon to be Loyal Heights Cooperative Preschool) community when my daughter was 3 years old has been one of the best decisions our family has made since settling in Ballard. Teacher Lauren and the parents (many of whom have had older children graduate from Teacher Lauren's classes) create a welcoming, colorful, supportive learning community that is a delight to step into! My daughter and I have both made lasting friendships with other families in our community that I can only imagine will last throughout her schooling years. Your child will grow so much and will LOVE going to school each day. Teacher Lauren is a treasure for our children and for our community, she inspires all of us to pour love and energy into our kids. She values diversity and introduces the children to cultures and languages from around the world daily. We have a music teacher and do creative dance, Brain dance, drama, yoga, cooking, small group projects, care for animals, tend our school garden, get to know our neighbors, take field trips, ride the bus, walk to the park, play in our full size gym, explore science, develop a love of reading and books, coach our kids to work through their emotions and learn to get along with others! We absolutely love this co-op preschool! I've already had two of my children attend, and now I'm hoping my youngest will be starting in September as well. The teacher, Marissa, is caring, supportive, and truly dedicated to helping every child grow socially, emotionally, and academically. The co-op environment creates such a wonderful sense of community for both children and parents. The classroom is welcoming, fun, and full of engaging activities that encourage creativity, confidence, and friendships. We are so happy to have found Loyal Heights Co-op! Teacher Marissa is patient, caring and knowledgeable. She creates a play based environment that helps each child grow and develop. The teacher and parent educator work with parents to help them through any issues kiddos are having. The co-op model fosters a strong community of families. During the 20-21 year, the school worked hard to pivot to an outdoor + virtual hybrid program that provided much needed socialization and learning in a safe way. Our two-year-old daughter has attended ELDC for about six months, and we have been grateful for them every day of it. The staff there knows her, and they care about her individual needs. Whenever they have a concern, they reach out to us and work collaboratively to help our daughter grow. (Such a change from her last daycare, where all we heard was she was doing 'fine.') Similarly, when she accomplishes something new, they're eager to share the news, and so proud of her! The staff at ELDC is in tune with the needs of their charges, and they build their lesson plans around ensuring the kids have the sort of experiences that will help them the most. This doesn't come in the form of dull lectures, but in games, art projects, and exploration. Our daughter has learned so many wonderful, practical skills since attending. Putting on her shoes, for example. The staff models kindness, hard work, and helpfulness to the kids, and the kids respond to that. What I love most about ELDC is how involved the staff is. This isn't a place where the adults stand off to the side looking at their phones while the kids entertain themselves. They're reading them books, dancing with them, teaching them songs, conducting experiments. Every day at ELDC is an adventure! In short, my shy daughter runs into school with a smile on her face. And when I ask her what makes her happy, she frequently names her teachers. They love her, and she loves them.

This corporation is money driven and in the twenty years has been poorly managed and went down hill. Don't waste your time and end up like us regretting the decision to give them benefit of the doubt. To the upper management you need to be a secret shopper and see how poor the director and teachers interact amongst one another. There is a handful of decent teachers but, in all it's TRASH. Highway robbery.

As a parent, the pictures and updates throughout the day through a wonderful mobile app made leaving our child at the school so much more comfortable. It really was a bright spot seeing our child LOVE being at school throughout the day. The staff is so fabulous. Every day during pick-up they shared something special about our child. Exceptional communication. If they have a spot in the new location enroll or put your name on the waiting list immediately. I haven't met yet other so knowledgeable owner and director and this makes a big difference. Pros: 1. The lesson plan is great and full with activities that are actually executed. I guess when the owner has Masters in Education and makes the curriculum herself is much better than downloading a free plan from the internet and just hang it on the wall like many other places do. 2. Teachers are polite, willing to communicate with parents, supportive (regarding potty training for example), very knowledgeable about how to develop fine motor skills and how to organize the little bunch of toddlers so they can finish their activities and actually learn something. (Ok I believe I am not the only parent who can't make ONE toddler put his shoes on, what about something more complicated). My son's teacher call the kids of her class "friends". For me they are little screaming monsters but for her they are friends. Can't thing of better way to teach respectfulness. 3. They regularly bring some entertainment for the kids like clown, parrot lady, bouncy house etc. 4. The kids helped plant herbs and tomatos in the Spring and now they regularly bring organic tomatos home. Good way to teach about nature and about how the efforts pay back. 5. The prices are very reasonable. Cons: You probably won't find opening there. If there is an opening consider yourself very very lucky.

Ms. Ayfen and Mr. Tory are the perfect team and I personally, consider them my daughter's guardian angels. I get greeted with a genuine smile every morning and am briefed on my kid's achievements at pick-up every day. All the pictures and videos I get on a weekly basis of my daughter learning something new, doing art, singing or having fun outdoors almost makes me feel like I didn't miss a moment and that I was right there all along. Ms. Ayfen is always trying to make learning innovative and fun for the children. Every student's culture and traditions are acknowledged and studied about and even celebrated. They are very well-rounded for their tender age. There's also plenty of healthy outdoor time and they get to go on some pretty cool adventures and field trips. I couldn't ask for more as a parent!
