We love the space where coop is, we've got access to the gym upstairs when the weather is rainy, and the community center playground for every other day's playtime outside. And a sweet little garden space just up our stairs as well - perfect for planting and weeding. I love the mixed age class and the smaller group when the littler guys go home. Both of our children have attended this preschool and it has been such a positive experience for our family. Teacher Marissa is incredibly skilled and we've loved seeing our son grow in so many areas. I am proud to say that my two boys will have both gone through two years of Crown Hill Co-op 3-5's with Teacher Lauren. What an amazing experience. Every time we walk in the door we are met with a smile and warmth from the teacher and all the parents. My boys have both grown by leaps and bounds going through this program, and have made friendships that will last a lifetime. This is a program that is focused on play, love and acceptance of others, parent education, building friendships and problem solving challenges all little people encounter, and learning to love and appreciate nature. Every birthday (or half birthday if a summer bday) is beautifully celebrated. We go on several field trips, for example riding the bus to Ballard Library, visiting the food bank, puppet theater, museums, the zoo, park & picnic days, etc. It is a safe, bright and inviting classroom with a beautiful gym that we use when the weather is too rainy to safely go outside to the playground. (the door is always closed and locked unless it is drop-off or pick-up time and at those times there are always adults present to monitor the door) I highly recommend checking out Crown Hill 3-5's, I love that I got to be so involved in my sons preschool education by doing coop. We both learned valuable skills that I'm not sure a drop-off preschool could have provided. --also wanted to add the cost is extremely affordable, under $200 per month. Teacher Marissa really knows how to engage her students, no matter what circumstance throws at us. From virtual only during covid lockdown, to hybrid virtual/outdoor school, to new this fall indoors/in-person with the many safety layers used to protect everyone. Although I was doubtful I would be able to handle the jobs required of parents at cooperative schools, I quickly discovered that the teamwork brought me some of my newest and closest friends. These are parents I will love and respect for the rest of my life, and their children will be my daughter's friends far beyond the schoolroom. This is our last year at LHCP and I'm already anticipating missing our daily dose of Teacher Marissa's smile and the fast pace of preschooler play. This co-op is a wonderful enriching experience for my children. Teacher Lauren is truly amazing, kind, and a very patient woman who handles many different types of kids without blinking an eye. The tuition is something you can't beat either and is definitely worth looking into and they also offer scholarships! The community feel this co-op offers is worth it alone. Teacher Lauren's many years of experience teaching preschool is clearly evident with her care and patience with every child. The curriculum is rich in diversity, music, and a play based model of academics. The pre-kindergarten program introduces phonics and numbers and challenges the children to practice, taking turns, self regulation and listening at daily circle time. There is daily physical education in the gym or outside at the park. As a parent it is an extremely difficult decision in selecting the right school for your child. This school checks off all of the boxes and then some. You can't beat the price as I'm sure it's one of the least expensive schools in the neighborhood. There are so many options in the Ballard area but what a gem this school is! TL is experienced, knowledgeable, patient, current, and enthusiastic to the max. She loves the kids as if they were her own. My child is a high energy kid and TL takes it in stride. After researching the best way for children to learn and develop, I was looking for this type of environment. Between the great teaching by Teacher Lauren and the Parent Education from North Seattle CC, the amount of information at your fingertips is amazing. Having an experienced teacher get to know your child this well helps a lot. I think this environment really encouraged growth and happiness for my daughter.
