This is the 107th dog park we have been to due to traveling. We have seen most everything. Best to say this first. The wood chips are sharp. Nothing has been tumbled. My dog is pretty tough and even he was ready to go in 5 minutes. I'm giving it a 3 star rating for two reasons. Open tractor gate at the back which I was UNaware of (that is a FIRST), and my dog was ready to go soon due to rough wood chips hurting him. I really want to lean towards a 2 star, but will give it the benefit of the doubt. If I just check the gates first my dog won't die. What this dog park has, or doesn't have: One big fenced "all dog section" Rough wood chips (sharp in July 2018) Double entrance gate Tractor gate in back w/ NO LOCK (it was OPEN) NO WATER (bring your own water) Bags Trash can in the "unleashing area" (easy to reach over the fence though, no need to exit to throw bag away) Lots of street parking It's not somewhere we could go due to the very rough wood chips. Our main dog park gets similar "you never know what donation bark it is", but it's never sharp. If I had to go again (we won't, but just sayin' if you choose to go) I would bring in a big zip tie to use on the tractor gate while we are in there. I zip tied it while I was there since three people all said it's a common total BS move to 1.) have it unlocked and 2.) someone doesn't care so they leave it open regularly. I emailed the city of Newport, OR and ask for a standard padlock on the TRACTOR gate. It's only for tractors and not used much. I encourage you to voice the same. To voice the padlock plea: Click on website in the Yelp app, click on contact, choose Parks and Recreation Department drop down. Just say "enough - put a padlock on it". Click send. A review takes more time than sending that.

I still recommend bringing your own toys, but these make good fun for any dogs forgetting theirs. It would be awesome if it had a covered area for humans, but it does have a picnic bench and a few chairs. I highly suggest you wear clothes/shoes you don't mind getting muddy/dirty, especially in the rainy months. Our two labradoodles had a GREAT time playing with the other dogs and just running and being dogs in a large area. Highly recommended for fun-loving dogs and humans alike!

That isn't a problem for me, but it might be for you if your dog tends to run away when it gets a taste of freedom. That being said, the park is huge and there are no worries about using a chuckit and letting those balls fly. There is an agility area if you and your dog are into that (my dog ignores it). There is also a creek which I haven't explored yet but will. There are restrooms, a bucket for doggie water, and poop bags. I've seen the bag dispenser empty once so it does happen. Of course some don't pick up after their dogs but that happens everywhere. I haven't seen a huge accumulation of dog poop so far. I do clean it up when I see it.

The off-leash area spans several acres and is fully fenced, offering plenty of room for dogs to run safely. It's located within Eugene's beautiful riverfront park and includes two separate sections for large and small dogs, which I really appreciate. There are thoughtful amenities throughout, including water stations, shaded seating, picnic tables, and even covered shelters for those rainy Oregon days. One of my favorite features is the walking trail inside the fenced area, so you can get your own exercise in while your pup explores. This park is well maintained, the pet owners are thoughtful and extremely friendly, and this has consistently been a great stop for my BFF Elsa as well as for myself.

The first section had bark ground covering and a few trees and benches. I am not comfortable with my dogs walking on bark because of the possible splinter factor and it just doesn't seem as comfortable. So we walked farther on to the grassy area which was a lot nicer but it didn't have many trees and there were no benches to sit at. There were a few places for dogs to get drinks and a couple of plastic pools to take a doggie dip in. There were large trash receptacles which were a welcome sight. A lot of parking out front and a potter potty nearby if needed.

To get to the tide pools, you have to walk across uneven rocks, so it is not easily accessible for people with balance issues. It's worth noting that the staircase in the lighthouse is under construction and not available. From there, we walked up the incline to get views of the cove and the north beach areas. It was just one perfect photo after another. We then hopped back into the car and drove down to the Cove parking lot. There are not many parking spaces there, but we were there early and had no problem. Just another wonderful set of views.

Perhaps even a primary home as well but I do like living in a large metro area because of the various services and entertainment options at your disposal. I have been to this Natural Area twice now and it's just so beautiful! The first time I really took advantage of taking pictures of the lighthouse here as well as the view. The second time was a repeat of that particular activity but in addition to that we went down to the tide pools and were immediately entranced with all of the aquatic life in those pools. We took pictures of that and were just so revitalized immersing ourselves in the nature there. I t was beautiful and simply amazing. Really nothing else needs to be said other than if you are touring along the Oregon Coast and are hitting the lighthouses this is a must stop... well they all are actually but this one really is. There is another lighthouse on the south end of town so Newport has scenic and at another time more practical advantage of having two lighthouses in the same town all within very close proximity. Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is truly a beautiful place!
