It would have gotten a 5 star review, if they hadn't ignored us. Super cute petting zoo my boyfriend and I have heard of, so we decided to go check it out we got there around 4:22 pm, and saw this family head out. As we got close to the door it was locked, but noticed what looked like a door bell so we pushed it, we waited like 6 minutes out in the rain, and my boyfriend also called and was sent to voicemail, we saw two guys inside completely ignore us. It would've been nice if they would have atleast came out to say sorry we're closing early. Their website says open till 6 pm and so does their voicemail. Very disappointed and upset

We had so much fun at this little zoo. It was 100% worth the price. Hidden gem in Newport for sure! We got to pet unique animals like kangaroos, maras, a fox and sloth. They give you a bag of vegetables to feed the animals and even have a reptile room where you can hold and pet turtles and alligators. Don't miss this awesome little animal sanctuary.

Sloth was trying to escape and showed teeth to the employee.

I'm a bit torn about my visit to Newport Discovery Zoo. I was able to do the sloth encounter and feed juvenile kangaroo, which is wild! But the conditions of the animals and the over all structure make me uncomfortable. For the sloth encounter - amazing once in a lifetime experience, but they advertised 20 minutes when we were only given 10, and we felt very rushed. The male sloth was also very aggressive and made us nervous to be around. The female was awesome. Two sloths seemed a bit overwhelming. Then there is the petting zoo area - so many animals fighting for your veggies. There's a couple of rams in there that would paw at me and rammed the kangaroos repeatedly. Additionally there was extremely aggressive pigs that will take off fingers and an emu who is not fully enclosed. There are little children running around everywhere, when they definitely shouldn't be. We didn't even have to sign a waiver for any of this! Tons of bird and reptile cages around the whole building. So, on one hand, it's super cool to be that close to some exotic animals. But seems a bit "tiger king" like with using the animals. It feels like someone's backyard pet collection that they decided to profit off of.

If you haven't been to Discovery zoo, you have to check it out !! We had so much fun petting, feeding and seeing all the animals !!! You can pet the kangaroos, emus, goats, chickens, guinea pigs, pigs, and so much my more. It was smaller than I expected but it didn't matter because I had more fun here than at any regular zoo. We will definitely be coming back here.

Me petting (and being pet by) a cute wallaby!!!

I really wanted to pet some goats. What a bonus to feed the sloths! And the parrot, bear cat, and kangaroo!

As someone who has volunteered at the California Raptor Center in Davis, CA for 3 years (and counting) and is also a primary handler/trainer of two education ambassadors (a Swainson's Hawk and a Peregrine Falcon), as well as an aspiring falconer, I am pretty well-versed in raptors. Therefore, Cascades Raptor Center was a no-brainer stop on our trip. It was a pretty warm day, as OR had just experienced a heat wave. The raptor center overall was very well-kept, with over 30 education ambassadors on display. All the enclosures were very clean and organized. There were various trainers in several enclosures working with their respective birds when we went, and one volunteer even had a peregrine falcon out on glove for the public to enjoy up close and to ask questions about. We actually made it just in time for the last flight show of the season, and boy was it a blast!! Hans the Eurasian-Eagle-Owl was the star of the show, but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire program. As you can see in the photos below, I snapped some lovely shots of the birds with my DSLR. Here I am sharing some of my favorites. The admission fee was worth it, especially as the raptor center mainly functions from donations. We also shopped at the little gift shop after for some mementos to take home. I would love to revisit on our next trip to OR!

They have a mock control center for launching a rocket with vibrations. There's also a water park with a 747 on top the building with 4 water slides coming out of it. That looked fun. They are building a hotel on the property as well. It's a pretty neat spot in the middle of nowhere. Check out Mark Clay McGowan on YouTube for history and information details of museum.

The complex Covers four buildings. Two of them are for the museum, one of the buildings holds a giant screen movie theater that screens, some amazing aviation related movies, and the fourth building is an indoor waterpark, complete with a retired 747 parked on the roof. The emergency exits to the 747 are entrances to the waterslides. The primary building, where the spruce goose is located, covers aircraft from a replica of the original Wright Brothers flyer, to modern military aircraft. The secondary building, is the space, museum. It has aircraft such as the SR 71 blackbird, a model of the Apollo, lunar lander, and other space related exhibits. You can easily spend hours here. Admission is reasonable, and they offer discounts for military/veterans, seniors, youth, and local residents. Annual memberships are also available. To see the Spruce goose I highly recommend the flight deck tour. It's $25 on top of the museum admission, not cheap, but without it, all you really see is the entranceway of the plane. I took the tour, it was a 45 minute tour, it goes through the entire plane, and the docent talked about the whole history of the plane, it's different components, etc..... It was originally a prototype for a massive cargo plane, but because it was not completed by the end of WWII, there were no others made. It only flew one time, and there was a really cool recording of a reporter who was actually on the plane for that flight. It's definitely worth the visit.
