Agatucci's has been a long time favorite pizza of mine. When I am looking for an awesome thin crust pie in Peoria, this is the place! Review Visit: November 18th 2012 Peoria's favorite pizza or so it seems. Agatucci's. If you just utter the name anywhere in Peoria and there is someone within earshot, you can see them start to drool a bit. This place is beloved by Peorians. Ok, maybe I am being a bit dramatic but Agatucci's does have a good reputation among the Peoria area for having really good food. Being a fan of pizza, you know I had to check it out before too long. Agatucci's. It's a small building with a smaller parking lot. Erin, Matt, and I got here maybe 15 minutes after they opened and the parking lot was already packed. I remember us worrying we wouldn't find a spot to park until one opened up like a ray of sunshine after a cloudy day. We quickly snagged it and headed inside. Agatucci's. The place was dimly lit like it only hosted romantic dinners. Any photo I took here came out dark, blurry or washed out from the flash. We took a seat at a table and look at the menus. It's fortunate to have easy going friends and people in your life when it comes to ordering food. Ordering pizza for 3 people can get awkward due to taste preferences. Luckily, we were able to make it happen. I believe there was a sign at the table suggesting their Tiger Sauce. The advertisement worked as I ordered some with the pizza. Agatucci's. Your pizza looked delicious as it came out of the kitchen. Your smells were euphoric. Your pizza glistening with the glitter of artery-clogging grease. Your taste... not so much. I tried to put on a good face and chew my way through the meal but in the end, I couldn't eat more than enough to hold the hunger at bay. The Tiger Sauce that came with it did nothing but worsen the pizza for me. I don't know what the Tiger Sauce was but it was something I did not agree with. Agatucci's. You tried. You have a whole town clutched in your greasy grasp. I guess it just wasn't for me. Even after all these years, I wonder about our visit and think that maybe my experience was a one-off. Maybe I left my taste buds at home that day. Maybe things have changed since 2012. As with these places, I am willing to give it another shot but I will let someone else pick Agatucci's as the destination should the occasion arise. Don't let me one random visit in 2012 dissuade you from checking it out. Maybe it'll be your favorite place. Just be warned that parking is limited. read more

Having had their mediocre pasta last month, several people said their pizza was the best, so we tried it tonight. My wife's Italian sausage half had very little sausage. My hamburger half had the most bland tasteless hamburger I have ever eaten. Very little tomato sauce also. They brag that next year will be their 100th year, I don't know how they have made it for 99! As I said in my last review, another mediocre Italian restaurant. read more

We heard good things about the pizza at this restaurant, however what we didn't know is that we would be sitting in a wood paneled cafeteria under a disgustingly dirty red light. Two of us got a headache pretty immediately waiting for our food due to the lighting - and we waited a long, long time. We had fried raviolis which were like Aldi but burned. We got a pizza which honestly was not bad. We also got the fried chicken to try. It was burned and inedible. We will not be returning. i'm not usually in Peoria but last weekend was there for a funeral. I remember Agatucci's from eating there in the early 90s and it did not disappoint! The pizza was a perfect tavern style with the crispy Crust and nice balance of toppings kind of sauce and cheese. The vinegar, oil and garlicky tiger sauce really takes it to the next level. I'm not crazy about the Peoria style cut into little thin strips thing that they do, but hey if that's how Agatucci's has been doing it for 50 or 60 years, I won't complain! The pizza was bland. The sausage on the pizza was very tasty but that was the only part that was. Was there really sauce on the pizza? There were 5 in our party, and we all decided we would not go back. Heard nothing but great reviews from others, but maybe it was an off night for the restaurant. read more

Agatucci's has really good pizza. The crust is thin and crispy. The interior of the restaurant is very dark. There are some quirks such as they do not offer soft drink refills and they provide "doggy bags" instead of boxes for takeout. Also, they do accept credit cards but only MasterCard and Visa. It had been over twenty years since I'd eaten here. So I decided to make it a point to eat there on a recent trip to the area. They make a very good thin crust pizza. I ordered the special which has sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. I really liked all the ingredients, but they really need to start using fresh mushrooms. I don't think their use of canned mushrooms is any different than when I ate here last all those years ago, but it would really be an improvement. The restaurant is a bit small and it's very dark inside which has me worry about cleanliness. But overall it's a good experience. read more

Fun place to go on a Friday night ! My wife and I came here for dinner. We were immediately seated in the back room at a small table for 2. The ambience here is just awesome and you go back in time with the decor. Our waitress Sammy was fantastic. We asked for a couple menus. Lots of regulars dine here who apparently don't need menus. We ordered a half pitcher of Sierra Mist and 2 waters. My wife ordered a 11" pepperoni pizza with a side cup of marinara. I ordered the fried chicken special with vinegar and oil and French dressing for the dinner salad. I also added Shredded cheese to my salad. The fried chicken special also comes with your choice of 2 pastas tortellini, raviolis, and spaghetti. I chose tortellini and ravioli with meat sauce. The meat sauce was small extra charge. I also got a couple pieces of bread with butter which came out with my salad. The salad was just iceberg lettuce in a old school plastic brown small bowl. My wife loved her pizza and received it first. About 5 minutes later I got my hot fried chicken, fries, and side of pasta. This is a ton of food. The fried chicken comes with 4 pieces Breast, thigh, wing, and a leg. We loved all our food. We had plenty leftovers for lunch the next day. Great experience and we will be back. read more

I am not reviewing the pizza because I actually didn't have it. (Shock! Horror!) I will next time, because I'm going back. For all the people that said it's a limited or simple menu, that's what a pizzeria is. It's pizza, and then pasta or burgers for people that don't want pizza at that moment. (Everyone wants pizza eventually.) I didn't have pizza because I was trying to find local places while I'm up here on business, and Agatucci's showed up in the search. I love pizza. I also love fried chicken. This is a pizza place that has fried chicken. Also, if you get the special fried chicken, you get ravioli and spaghetti on the side. What? Cultures coming together in peace and harmony! In my belly. So, after finding them on one of the two days they're closed, I finally made it in tonight. I walked into a packed restaurant, which turned out to be one table of about fourteen, all related - so a true Italian place. I grabbed a table, and looked around. It's a bit dark. However, that's how a family pizzeria is supposed to be. If you want bright lights and noise, go to one of those kids' party places (which isn't pizza, but if you don't know what a pizzeria looks like, you probably don't know pizza, either.) My waitress arrived and asked if I wanted a menu. This to me is a good sign because it means there are regulars who don't need one. I asked for one, got a beverage from the bar, and decided how long to wait before I just confessed I wanted a half fried chicken with pasta. The order did not surprise or horrify her. So far, so good. She asked what dressing I wanted on my salad. Wait. I get salad? I should have said "house" since I was in an Italian place, but I panicked and said "Thousand Island." She asked if I wanted my bread with my salad or my dinner. This was a question I had never been asked. (I should have said "Both" to see what would have happened.) The salad was nice. The bread was good. After a bit, the chicken arrived. Now, I had assumed that since a chicken basket had fries and a special basket had pasta, that the fries would be eliminated. Silly me. Fries and pasta. Seriously. Unless the booze is free, does it get better than this? My waitress mentioned she had this all the time, and I might want to poke some holes in the chicken to let the steam out. If a food services professional ever tells you something like this, do it. As I picked up one of the pieces of chicken and watched my fingerprints disappear, I realized this may have been cooked to order or perhaps heated in a nuclear reactor. It is also the only dish I have ever had that makes hot pasta sauce seem like a reasonable temperature to consume. After everything cooled down, I ate. The pasta is good. I really liked the ravioli, the sauce is really nice. If I had just tried the pasta, I would have been happy. However, I still had a half a chicken (and some fries.) Maybe it's best I didn't ask for more bread. I love this fried chicken. It reminds me of chicken I've had elsewhere, but I can't figure out where. I may have to go back and see if another order will trigger my memory. It was really, really good. The breast was moist, the leg and thigh were tasty, even the wing was good - and I'm not usually a wing person. So, I have found a pizza place where I may go and never have pizza. Who am I kidding? If the chicken is this good, I have to get the pizza next time. I may sit at the bar, because as the streams of people entered, I felt a bit guilty about taking up a four-top - and there appeared to be people eating at the bar. However, most of people coming in were parties too large for the table anyway. read more

We walked in on a late snowy night hoping they didn't call last call for food at 9pm. They said they closed the kitchen because of the weather. I jokingly said we drove over 4 hours & was sad because my dad raved about it all 4 hours. So, naturally I had to pee, come out of the bathroom & Tony is asking me what toppings on my pizza? Where the hell do you get that service anymore? He fired up the oven JUST FOR US! This place has some of the best thin-crust pizza I've ever had & I've lived in Chicago for almost two decades. This place needs to be on the pizza nerd's map. A classic tavern cracker thin crust sliced in rectangles. Sauce and crust recipe that goes way back. The place opened in the 1920's and has a cool retro vibe. Kind of like Vito & Nick's in Chicago. Any place that has thrived for decades without advertising has some serious game. read more

Well, the reviews said this would at least be decent but I was left feeling very disappointed. Upon entering, there were quite a few people there which was promising. Place was really dark from initial impressions. When we went to a seat, I walked by the carry out window. The window opens up into the kitchen, so I could get a quick glimpse into the workspace. I wish I hadn't. There was a large table with a few pizzas on there that were partially eaten, I guess by the employees or maybe other customers who didn't want to finish. On the "assembly line" were 2 chefs, making the pizzas. It seemed fine until I realized they WERE NOT WEARING GLOVES. He reached into a plastic bucket of cheese bare-handed and put it on the pie. I'm not a germophobe but that didn't sit well. The service was fine, whatever, nothing to say. Salad was not much of a salad at all. Some old/partially-rotten iceberg with a dressing of weak olive oil and a few drops of vinegar. That's it. Pizza came out cold somehow. Because of it being cold that lack of flavor stood out more because it couldn't hide behind anything. I convinced myself that I was hungry so I didn't have to eat too much. I don't think I'll be back in the area anytime soon, and I certainly won't go here again if I am. read more

I like Pizza, yes I do! Agatucci's was real good too! I'm from Chicago and eat pizza too many times. Ordinarily, I would have never wandered into this neighborhood place. It looks like a snapshot from a 70's pizza place with wood paneling. The real spotlight, however, is the thin crust pizza. I ate too much! What really sets the pizza over the top is that spicy, garlicky, olive oil type sauce. I drizzled it on top at someone's suggestion. Amazing! The salad was nothing special, just lettuce. Really classic thin crust pizzas. I think maybe the best I've had in a long time, if ever. This place has been passed down from father to son for 4 generations. From what my, Aunt, Uncle and 95 year old Grandma tell me, the only thing that has changed about the place since the original Dad, is they got a parking lot in 1972. Now you can see the house my Aunt grew up in from the back door. The green salad, as any salad in Peoria is, is cut bite sized pieces of iceberg lettuce. I would take a star away for it, but no matter where you go in Peoria and get a green tossed salad, it is always a bowl of various sized cut up iceberg lettuce, so I can just accept that and be glad that at least 1 vegetable I eat there doesn't come from a can. read more

This is fair if not generous. I ordered spaghetti and ravioli with meat sauce, $9.75 my wife wanted a large salad and they didn't offer that. She ordered an order of chicken tenders and a side salad. Her chicken was good, it was three nice size tenders $7.95 and a side salad about $4. The spaghetti came with a side salad and three slices of bread which I'm sure would have cost extra had I asked for more. When I say salad, I mean only salad, no veggies, no cheese, no croutons. I wanted the Chicken Special for $15.95, the "special" was you could add a side of pasta for $2. I wanted the chicken all white meat, I figured that would be about $3, answer, sorry we don't offer all white meat, what? I do not like dark meat so my 2 piece chicken dinner would be $16. The total ripoff of the night was an 8 ounce glass of soda for $1.75, no refills, what are you stuck in the 70's? Oh I could have ordered a half pitcher of soda for $3.75. How about you charge me $3 for free refills like every other restaurant on the planet. As I said 3 stars was pretty generous as the food was meh. read more

Stopped for the first time after being in Peoria on business. Our waitress Heather was awesome and on point with her suggestions. We had the spaghetti and ravioli and it was really good! We saw several pizzas come out to other tables and agreed we need to come back and try one. Lots of food and can't beat the prices. I have been coming here since I can remember and it has been the same every single time. It was awesome that my daughter got to play w the pizza dough just like I did as a kid. The tiger sauce is amazing and seeing Tony great me with a smile ia always welcome. Coming from Chicago I am a pizza snob....but this place holds its own against the best. Visited Thanksgiving Thursday with my college-age kids. Despite it being packed, we were seated quickly and our server was prompt. We had to go with thin crust pizzas, which were outstanding (perhaps a few minutes longer wait than usual, but again the place was extremely busy). Next time I might get extra cheese on them just to change things up from the usual pepperoni/black olive/mushroom and onion/green peppers/olives. I believe that Aggies still has the best pizza in Peoria. Yes, it has a dimly-lit local bar/restaurant atmosphere and that's part of the charm. Plus they have tiger sauce. OK. A friend and colleague tells me about this place. I think that he went to school down here. A friend of his and that friend's family own what I think is the most legendary pizza institution in Chicago. These two think that agatucci's is even better than the Chicago legend. So, I gotta try it, right? First, I don't know that it's better - only because it's comparing apples and oranges. This is a seriously excellent pizza. I've been eating here since I was in a high chair. Classic thin crust pizza. It is always a treat to go with my family as we have been eating here for so many years. To the reviewers who say this place is old and etc. to me it is a place full of so many memories. You won't find places like this anymore that are a "gem" and still have the same menu for a crazy amount of years. This restaurant doesn't need a facelift as the other reviewer said. This restaurant needs to just stay the same as it is- one of my top favorite places for pizza. Thanks to Agatuccis for being such a classic place for pizza for so many years. An old favorite of ours but.....we placed an order for carry out and when we got home we found that they had made us the wrong pizza. We called and they agreed to replace it. So we drove back only to be told by the kitchen manager that they would not replace the pizza unless we brought back the old one. They did not tell us that when we called about the mistake. So we left with no pizza. We decided to call on the way back to East Peoria. They answered and told us that our pizza was ready and to come back to pick it up. Communication seems to have broken down between the km and the front of the house. What ever happened to customer satisfaction? Again this place has great pizza but severely lacks in customer service. Bottom line they did wind up replacing it so in the end we were satisfied although it was a pain in the butt. We fed the other pizza to our dogs since it had shrimp on it. The dogs were very grateful! read more
