First time visit, pleasantly surprised. I got the garlic bread and pizza bread with sausage on top. The sausage especially seemed like very good quality. Both dishes were very good and actually much better than versions of both at "LaGondola". Pricey though at almost $20. And the neighborhood seemed a bit run down, several empty establishments in the area. There are very few reviews on the pizza at this place and those that I have heard mentioned say this place is not known for their pizza. But bc I thought the sausage on top of my pizza bread was so good, it makes me wonder how that pizza would work out. This place is such a local gem! Is it authentic Italian food...no...but is it really good Italian-ish food? YES! This is the cinnamon butter bread. It's one of the best things I've ever had...you can't stop once you start. We also ordered (as we always do) the family special with spaghetti, gondola type sandwich, garlic bread and soda ..you can't beat it for price and the food you get! I hate to be blunt, but the italian sausage "sandwich" is just about the worst "sandwich" ive ever had. the sausage was a bland, rectangular patty. the sauce was weak the cheese wasn't bad, yet there was enough cheese on this one sandwich to feed a family of five and it weighed down the bread and added so much thickness that it could not be folded and enjoyed as a sandwich should be. how do restaurants survive with putting out food like this? read more

I grew up back here & now live in California, but I miss the Pizza bread from Michael's. Every time I'm in town visiting family I have to stop in a few times to order the bread & pizza bread. It is sweet & so soft. The sandwiches are also good. We usually order to go. Walk up to the counter to place your order. Sometimes we even take some of the bread back on the plane with us. I really like Michael"s. They are essily the highest priced for the similar options they provide. However, I enjoy the product more. How desparate does a business need to be to charge for cutting a sandwich. For those unfamiliar, a Mike's sub is served on very soft bread and is a foot long, more or less. I get it cut into 4ths so i can enjoy while driving. It is lunacy that, in order to do so, I am asked to pay around a 3 percent charge for cutting the sandwich. I didn't get extra and it was wrapped as one sandwich. While i will pay a buck or so more for the same thing here as the inventor of the sandwich charges, I am done over a $.30 cutting fee. Yelpers .... please watch for and report idiotic fees. I am grateful restaurants are stll around, but I will avoid them all for fees. read more

Have been a customer for as long as Mike has been in business in Washington Have always had good service and food over these many years. The last three visits have been very poor. 3 times ago I waited 55 minutes for a to go order. Last time 45 minutes and tonight 25 minutes for a meatball sandwich and tortellini. I was the only customer in the lobby and there was one table in dining room. Food quality has diminished and prices have risen. Employees standing around drinking sodas and person in charge making excuses. Don't need poor service and mediocre food. Seems to me when the boss is gone things go south. Do not support this business in any way! I am a former employee and have been put through a ringer. Not only is the food quality low for the extremely high mark up, the food handling is worse. They don't care if their employees wear gloves or not and management doesn't bother to wear them anyway. When told about food allergens that don't care. One time the manager served a chef salad that had egg on it to someone who specifically stated they couldn't have egg. All he did was take the egg off and said they will be fine. The salad mix is all-ways sludgy and they have us just pick through it. The pasta is the same pasta you can get at Walmart or Kroger. Not only that, they reuse their deli containers. If you don't know why that is a problem it is because the plastic is so weak that it starts to deteriorate after being washed; leaving microplastics in your food. Then when I put in my two weeks notice the manager started falsely accusing me of destroying property and tried to make me pay for it. When I refused he told me to never show up to a Micheal's location ever again. My entire time as an employee felt like I was in a dumpster fire being lit by a ten year in an adult body. read more

Michael's never fails me. I used to eat a lot in East Peoria when it was there for lunch. I've eaten at the Germantown location when living in Metamora. And now we enjoy Washington. I'm not sure if there's history with Michael's and La Gondola, but it's very similar, so if you like one, you'll enjoy the other. Meatball sandwich is great for a solo meal. And the family feast could easily feed at least 6. The sauce and the garlic bread combo is a winner. read more

A while ago we tried to order take out spaghetti and sauce and asked if we could get it separate. I was looked at like I was crazy and they wanted to charge me extra for take out. My son and my husband do not like sauce mixed in already with their spaghetti. My son doesn't like sauce and my husband does not like a lot of sauce. Needless to say we left and I ended up making my own spaghetti and meat sauce, even though it ended up being a late night. Also, we don't like sweet garlic bread. It's kind of gross. Never been to an Italian restaurant outside of this area that serves sweet garlic bread. Sad to say we won't probably go back. read more

We Love Michael's food! We dine in and order carry out frequently. Our favorites are the lasagna, pizza, and the bread. The service is always friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable. The subs here are even BETTER than the ones from a similar restaurant from central IL that starts with an A and is a favorite of most ISU and Bradley alumni. read more

I love the bread, love the subs and the tortellini is my favorite. The sauce is sweet, which is my favorite so if you're not a fan of a sweet sauce, don't get a dish with sauce. The tortellini is always hot. We prefer picking up rather than dining in, just not that great of a dining experience there. Most of the time the employees are nice and service is quick, a few times it hasn't been. They added on, but I think they should have improved the entrance area since it looks run down and dirty at times. read more

I fully understand things are tough during this Covid-19 mess. It's not hard just on the restaurants, it's hard on their customers too. I go to Michael's in Washington quite often, but this is my fourth time going since March. The first time was when I purchased gift certificates because I wanted to do my part to help them stay open. Since then, I have placed orders for pick up and each time there has been a quality issue. Anything hot had to be heated up after arriving home (5 minutes away), not because it sat and waited for me to get there, but because it was not made that day. Things were refrigerator cold. The chef salads are normally the best around. Lately though, the greens are brown and somewhat slimey. I forgave the first nasty one, but months later when their pick up/carry out business is booming, I can't. Yesterday's chef salad was the same as the others; wilted, browning, limp greens and the usually delicious home-made croutons were thick, soggy and chewy, not crunchy and crispy. It makes it very hard to want to "eat local" and support hometown restaurants when what you get in return is inedible food and wasted hard earned money. read more

Love this place. Everyone is always very friendly and polite. I highly recommend the chef salad. It is the best value you could ever find. Not just a limp blob of iceberg lettuce, but lots of mixed greens topped with plenty of ham, turkey, salami and cheese. Throw in some homemade croutons and hard boiled egg. Huge! Easily enough to share with 2-3 people. We look for excuses to drive out of our way and buzz through Washington to get one. read more

My husband and I enjoy their subs. And the service is friendly. However, their pizza is not worth the 14 dollars that we paid for it. It was like eating a wafer with tomato sauce and cheese strewn on it. They are also very skimpy with their toppings. The food is always good. I am not a fan of eating in there, I don't appreciate looking at dirty tables because the wait staff are the kitchen help and they don't clean tables very often. The whole building is a mess, roof falling in ,wet moldy tiles, everything needs repainted. As busy as this restaurant is and many times as we have gone there for takeout should have plenty of money to invest in a can of paint or two! The TVs are always on sports channels and news but never anything family-friendly. Their prices keep skyrocketing every year and the size of the food always get smaller but is it is good and we enjoy going back. The teenage help are not always the friendliest. If La Gondola was still Open we would be going there. But it is and so we make do. read more
