Attempted to get a bid on some work on our house and property. Andy kept giving us a $50k price tag, floating the number without doing an estimate. That strikes me as dishonest. He also continued asking about what other bids we'd been given, and how much they were for. Frankly, I think he should understand that the estimates we are soliciting will be part of competitive bid for our projects, and my experience is that people who behave in this manner, asking about other bids and floating prices to gauge our reaction, aren't likely to give us a decent or honest bid for our projects. If his haphazard "estimate" is merely a matter of backing into a number, we'd rather not play this game: it's too likely to be a bad experience. Andy obviously doesn't care, but his potential customers should. Perhaps your experience will be different, but in my experience, these behaviors usually earmark dishonest intent... certainly not good business practices. read more

We met with Andy (Agave Landscape) at the Home and Garden show and had him come to the house and give us a quote. We were very clear on what we wanted and thought Andy was clear as well. Andy does a lot of talking but not a lot of listening. When we scheduled the job, there was all sorts of miscommunication about time frames, not understanding us etc. We were quoted one price and discovered before they did the work that price was for smaller product than what we wanted and were clear about. I agreed to pay almost $1000.00 more becauseof his not understanding our wants. The 1k was for overage because the pieces were larger. When the crew was cleaning up, they had almost a full pallet of product left over that they loaded on to their trailer. I have a security camera and have video of them loading the product into their trailer. Of course I wanted credit for the product they didn't use but Andy gave us some BS about how it cost more to install the larger pieces. He tried to Mansplain why he was ripping us off. I would not contact Agave Landscape for any project that you need done. They are dishonest and lack simple communication. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone due to the dishonesty in quoting one price and being charged another. When working with the public, listening and communication skills are very important. The owners of this company did not have either. They would start the project and you wouldn't see anyone for a few weeks. You would have to call and find out what was happening. It was just excuse after excuse. Something that have taken maybe a week took months. Again, I would not recommend this service. The owners tell you many positive things to get your business but don't follow through. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I had my backyard work done by agave in 2019 that cost me $13000 and they talked like highly professional but actual work is very poor. It is overpriced and used cheap materials. They didn't used waterproof sand over pavers which caused to flow with water in only one season and showing large space between two pavers. They talk like highly specialized but unfortunately my experience was so poor which I can't even explain here. Please don't go on his word and warranty as they are truly unprofessional and experienced in poor quality that you will get to know over 6 months or more. We had an overgrown mesquite tree in our yard that desperately needed trimmed. Josh, Geoff's foreman, came out and trimmed and thinned it out. They did an outstanding job. I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone needing to get a tree trimmed. They were very courteous, and very nice. The work Geoff does when he gets to your house is excellent. We've had him do tree trims and tree removals. That said, it's a difficult task to get him to come out. Before now, we've waited upward for three weeks for him to call us back and weeks more until he comes to do the work. This most recent time, we called and left a message about the work we wanted done, waited a week for him to call back, made plans and set a price for a tree trim, and now haven't seen or heard from him for SEVEN weeks. There are enough businesses out there who will return calls promptly and come out when they say they will that I've finally had enough of this workman. Good tree work, bad management. read more

It's very unfortunate that Geoff is still trying to cover up for his company's error. It is true that our water timer was changed out but I made him aware of the change BEFORE he started doing all the plantings. If he was so on top of business, why didn't he realize the plants were dying and look at the water timer to see if that was the culprit? It took him months to figure out that our water timer was set incorrectly? Please. That's pathetic. If he is really a professional landscaper who cares about his work, he should have caught it before it was too late. As for offering to replace the plants, we agreed to split the loss, not the cost. He said he would replace some of the plants, not all, for his part. He did not do so. Also, he never planted any of the Katie Ruella. These were supposed to be planted between the driveway and walkway. That never happened. I can't verify whether he did or did not plant the vine in the front of the house or the vine along the back wall since there was nothing there when we came out months later. If they died, they also mysteriously disappeared. The one cactus that he didn't plant is not the one I am complaining about. He never bought it and we never paid for it. No loss there. I am hardly trying to soil his company's name or reputation. He did that all by himself. read more

I "interviewed" several landscaping companies to tackle our large yard and also keep our part of the alley way clear as our house backs up to one. AGAVE IS THE BEST! You can tell right away that Customer satisfaction is their #1 priority. We used Agave's online request system and got a call back the next day from Geoff. He was near our area and offered to come by and take a look at what work we needed done. We had three trees and six shrubs to trim and a few other tasks we wanted help with. We liked the price so Geoff said they would come out and get it done. They did an awesome job getting our huge palo verde tree away from our house which was the biggest thing we needed. That tree is a pain to trim due to the thorns on it. Geoff even brought us some grass clippings for our compost bin since it had come up in our talks that we didn't have much brown refuse to put in it. All in all, they were really easy to work with, very knowledgeable and just plain great. Highly recommended! read more

I can't give them 5 stars because technically I didn't get to see how good of a job they do :-P However, the guy (sorry forgot his name) came out to our home free of charge and took a look at the trees we wanted to have trimmed. He gave his honest advice on how much trimming should be done and said that they'd be happy to come, but the job was a relatively small one and their company has a minimum fee they charge to come out which was higher than what we wanted to pay. I appreciated his honesty! For future reference, this company is probably a better match for landscaping needs that go beyond trimming a few branches. read more

I will first by starting with this company actually advertises under two different names. I first contacted Mackenzie tree trimming and Geoff called me. I received very poor customer service, which I will discuss. The next day Agave Tree Trimming called me (Geoff's wife), which I was very confused about. I find this a bit shady that they advertise under two different names. When Geoff called he first got some very general information, which was fine. He made comments how I was "so far out." He said he was doing a job in the general area and I told him I was available the next day to get a quote. He said he was not. I asked him on average how much it would cost per tree, and he said anywhere from $150.00 to $250.00. I was in a bit of shock since I needed four trees worked on. I did receive other quotes that were lower. Geoff asked me how much they were and I told him I was not going to tell him. Geoff would not make an appointment while I was on the phone and said he "would have to get back to me when he is available." I found this very unprofessional since I still wanted to get a quote. He again said that he couldn't and is very busy. He further stated that I should probably just go with the other quotes I received. I told him that he was being very unprofessional and the call ended at that point. The next day I received a call from Geoff's wife calling from "Agave." I was a little confused sine she mentioned her husbands last name, "Mackenzie." I asked her to clarify if they were the same company listed as "Mackenzie Tree Trimming," and she said yes .I told her I spoke to her husband the day before and she did know about the call. I asked why she was calling since they were too busy to make an appointment yesterday. She said she didn't know she was calling me. I told her thanks, but I will not be using either of these companies. This company does not even deserve the one star. I really wanted this to be my go to landscaping company, but... The first time Geoff and his crew were out, there was a very large tree overhanging my house, a big queen palm in the back that the previous owners neglected, weeds, trimming, etc. that needed to be taken care of. Geoff came out for the estimate and was back with his crew to complete the work in a short amount of time. That appointment was great! The first issue I had was during my second appointment. I emailed Geoff about a drip system leak in the front yard, and the palm in the back needed a quick trim- nothing big, but it needed to be done. We agreed to a price via email and he sent out his crew. They were able to get the work done and everything was going well, until it was time for my wife to pay. I was inside the house, busy doing something with my kids and when she went to pay they said it wasn't enough and brought up their "minimum fee". I never agreed to pay a "minimum fee", I agreed to the price Geoff and I discussed via email. Obviously nobody else was notified. So now I have his crew telling my wife (and me now) that it's going to be more than what I was quoted via email. The worker agrees to call Geoff but can't get in touch with him. He finally agrees to take the check we had made out for the pre-agreed amount and says he'll talk to Geoff about it. Okay, that's fine, but the whole thing was very strange. It's like they couldn't understand why I wasn't paying their "minimum fee". Very odd. Remember the drip system leak in the front yard? It came back (not blaming this on Geoff or Agave, just old). So I sent Geoff an email asking if he could come out and take a look. Never heard anything. At that point, I figured I should seek the help of a drip system expert. I did, he's great, and maybe it was all for the best. As another reviewer mentioned, it seems like they're great for big jobs but not so much for the small stuff. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I just wish I would have known. read more

We had an overgrown side yard of roses and cannas. What a mess. They designed a new plan and it looks great. They redid the path, cleaned out the yard, pruned trees and it all looks wonderful. Reasonably priced. Easy to get hold of and work with. So far the best of the landscape people I have used. They take real pride in their work which is obvious when you talk to them while they are working. They bought high quality plants to use - that has been a huge problem with other landscape people. A late night microburst brought down two of my large Palo Verde trees and I wanted them removed immediately since we were having guests over the next evening. I started calling landscape companies at 6:30am on a Saturday and Geoff returned my call within minutes. He gave me a reasonable estimate and by 8:30am he and his crew started working . The work performed was very good and they did a great job of cleaning up. I was a first time customer and since the job needed to be done right away and because other trees in the area were damaged or destroyed, I was worried about being nickle and dimed as the job went on. True to his word, the original estimate stood and that's all I paid. I really feel I got a lot of value and would not hesitate to use this company in the future. read more

I never received a call back. I called again and left a message and still no response. They must be too busy for new business. Poor customer service. I read the reviews for Agave and had high hopes. I first called on 10/28/14 to arrange for an estimate for yard cleanup at my house. Based on some of the other reviews, I knew it could take a while for a response. I waited 8 days without hearing anything so I called again on 11/5/14. Still no answer so I left a second voicemail. I did get a call back from Geoff 10 minutes later where I was told to go to the website and to request a quote there since I would fill out a form with all of my information. I did that as soon as I got off the phone. I then received an email from him that night saying he needed my physical address. I had already put that in the form, but maybe there was an issue so I sent it to him via email an hour later. It is now 11/12/14 and I have heard absolutely nothing back AGAIN. I even checked my junk mail to make sure an email wasn't sent there by mistake, but of course, nothing. I contacted another landscaper on Friday 11/7, they came out and did the quote today and they will complete the work next Monday. 10 days total from when I first contacted to when the work will be complete. It has been 15 days since I first contacted Agave and no one has even come out to give me a quote. Agave may do good work, but I wouldn't know since I couldn't even get them out to my house. read more
