Hey there, it's been a while so I thought I'd post my lunch today. I'm not even sure if this is the right location, but I'm at Agaves Cantina on 17A where the old Sol used to be. Greeted with a smile and sat immediately. The infamous chips and salsa placed on the table. Did I mention I'm meeting a friend for lunch and I'm 45 minutes early??? FORTY FIVE MINUTES!! Which only means I'll eat all the table chips and salsa while deciding what to have for lunch..the menu looks great! I mean, who doesn't like Mexican food..even after spending the whole month of February going between Cozumel and Costa Maya...I will never get tired of Mexican food.. of course I ordered a Dos Equis with a lime..it's soooo good!! I need up ordering the golden tacos with rice and bean..it was good! I only wish it was served hotter..it was warm but not hot. Still tasted great! My friend ordered the chicken fajita burritos...she said yummy!! The music reminds me of walking around Cozumel...the only thing that would make it better was if we were overlooking the ocean...I'll be back for sure!! read more

Ambiance was really nice. We sat outside. The tables and decorations were just cool. Service was great! Server was nice and came by at a reasonable frequency. Food was good. The salsa and chips were good and the dishes were good. Nice variety on the menu. We will definitely be back! read more

Likely will not return. Dined here a few years ago so we decided to give it another chance. Sat outside and the tables were pretty disgustingly dirty. Old metal tables that were rusted but also not clean/wiped down/ covered in the previous diners food and no one ever came to clean it off. The high chair for our one year old was also pretty nasty. We always bring Clorox wipes and the wipe was black after wiping it down. Server rarely came by, forgot our waters multiple times and had AirPods in , which I found a little rude. Food was just ok. No need to try this location out, definitely won't be coming back here. read more

Very disappointed in the service here, or lack of. We were seated and waited for our waitress. About 5 minutes went by and a big family was sat next to us. They got their drinks ordered and served. Still no service. We waited 10 more minutes, still no service. We got up and left. The place was not busy. Staff was standing around. Never again. read more

Delicious food and excellent customer service! We went in on a Friday night and were sat quickly. It was actually a breezy, 67 degrees in August in Charleston... so, we asked to sit out on the cute patio. The patio is decorated similarly to the restaurant with a romantic ambiance complete with lanterns and lights strung up across the beams. There are awesome heavy iron tables and chairs that are super comfortable. The inside of the restaurant is an eclectic mix of Mexican and western with huge elaborate wrought iron chandeliers. We loved it! Before we were completely settled in our seats, a kind waiter brought us chips and salsa. Just as quickly, our waitress arrived to take our drink order. The chips were nice and hot and the salsa was fresh with a nice kick to it. We ordered the Steak Jalisco and the Quesadilla Jalisco. Our food was delivered hot and fresh in record time. Everything was delicious! The chicken had an excellent flavor and was grilled to perfection. The steak also was very tasty, we especially enjoyed the potatoes and the beans were so yummy on the chips. My granddaughters and I went to this location on November 3rd. It looks very new, or it was very clean! The place is beautiful inside and out. The waitress was very kind although she did not understand or speak English very well. She did a great job though, her boss came over and helped her get our order. The food was delicious and I will definitely go back when I am down that way visiting. read more

Wow! First off their margaritas are amazing! This place does not disappoint everything from the friendly staff to the decor! The food portions for so huge. We ordered two appetizers and couldn't finish them. We got the ceviche with shrimp. It might have been the best ceviche I've ever had! We also got the fajita nachos which were delicious! How come I never thought of making nachos with fajita vegetables and chicken? If you're thinking about visiting this restaurant, just do it ! read more

Absolute worst dining experience in Cane Bay/Nexton. Menu says corn tortillas stuffed with chicken, bell peppers and onions. What was served was chicken on chips. Manger Alex was incredibly rude, condescending, arrogant and insulting. Smirked and mocked us. Table was dirty and sticky. Honestly if you want good Mexican go somewhere else. So far this is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Haven't been to all of them but I had a few disappointments. We were greeted upon entering and were seated right away with a couple of lunch menus. Chips and salsa arrived right after that and soon after another waitress came to take our drinks order: two Coronas, no lime Ordered chicken Fajitas and Carnitas to share, both were flavorful and portion size was adequate. Place looks clean and there are plenty of tables and enough space if you want to eat Al fresco. Will come back and keep trying other options. read more

I read the good reviews about this place and decided to give them a try. I feel the food did not live up to the hype. I ordered the chicken fajitas (lunch portion.) it came with refried beans and guacamole salad. I was offered the choice between corn and flour tortillas. The food was not very flavorful and it was very dry. The fajitas didn't come with sour cream, salsa, sauce or any moisture containing ingredients. The fajitas had maybe two pieces of grilled onion and one red pepper strip. The shreds of cheese were barely visible. I expected better based on the reviews. The customer service was ok. They were not overly friendly, I think that I had to greet them first in all honesty. If I return, It might be to grab a drink or an appetizer. Definitely will not return. The worse service ever. Went in one afternoon around 2 PM for a drink and perhaps some nachos in the Summerville location. We were given menus after some time sitting at the bar, by the most unfriendly bartender ever. After some time, he came back to take the drink order. Got the drinks we were given one napkin for both of us. We were served some chips and salsa no plates and no napkins. After some time again he asked if we wanted to order by that time, we decided better to go somewhere else. They were not busy, and many servers were standing around looking at their phones. Can't comment on the food but the service was a deterrent for placing any food orders. read more

I ordered a taco bowl with ground beef, side of mushrooms, broccoli, and corn. The meal came with chips. The chips, broccoli and mushrooms were good. Taco shell didn't taste fresh, nor was it crispy at all. The ground beef wasn't tasty. It wasn't seasoned well and it was really ground down not crumbly like ground beef usually is. Taco bowl is one of my favorite things from a Mexican restaurant, not today. read more

Finally, a good Mexican spot near the Bay! My family and I walked in and were sat immediately on a Sunday evening for dinner. Everyone was friendly and on top of things as far as service to the table with chips and salsa, drinks, orders, etc.... Started off with some cheese dip, it was just ok for me. It needed to be hotter in my opinion. That was my only complaint really. The chips and salsa were fresh. I was baisc and ordered a draft mexican beer and chicken nachos with black beans. The portions were plentiful and the food was tasty. They have an extensive menu and I look forward to going back and trying some new things. The outdoor area is beautiful, but it was cold when we visited. I look forward to dining there when the weather is nice. read more

I've been to two locations so far and the food and drinks do NOT disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We've had the carne asada torta, Mexican corn, chicken taquitos, chile Colorado, pomegranate margarita, and mango margarita with tajin. Their blended margaritas are better than on the rocks, I will say, but yum yum yum. Let me highlight the torta because this is exactly what I've been searching for - butter roll with a nice crunch, all the right toppings (although I do request refried beans spread onto the sandwich), and deliciously seasoned carne asada. I should try their other meats, but I just like the carne so dang much! The chile Colorado is one of those dishes you don't want to quit eating, but know you should, ya know? Service varies by location. Language barrier at one (fine by me, let me work around you. Seriously), and at another the waitress refused to write anything down and constantly forgot our requests (toppings, beverages, sides). Neither will stop me from going back. Comfortable ambiance. The outdoor chairs are a bit bulky. If two of you are sitting next to each other, one person is at an odd angle because the width of the chairs. Just saying. Agaves Cantina does not disappoint when you are craving Mexican food with a nice atmosphere. We sat outside on the covered patio and it was very enjoyable! I recommend trying their pomegranate margarita if you feel like imbibing, it was delicious and you have the choice of either salt or sugar on the rim (I chose salt). Omg this place is great! I used to go to the other place across the road but service and food is quite bad. Agaves has a fantastic set of motivated staff, great atmosphere and outstanding food (even seasoned lol) I took my girlfriend and family here on separate occasions and I've yet to be disappointed with service or food. Wow, we were very hopeful that this restaurant was going to be tasty based on the decor and the awesome looking patio (that were so excited to use when it gets warmer). This place was packed when we went in. We were quickly greeted and were brought to a table and given chips and salsa. We both ordered drinks which were nice and cold. I usually judge how much I like a Mexican restaurant based on their enchiladas and hot sauce. I asked for some house hot sauce and they brought out some homemade Habanero hot sauce in a cup. That stuff was amazing. I dipped the occasional bite in and enjoyed the ride. Will we be back? Definitely. Should you go? Definitely. Should Rio Chico step up their game to compete? The service was ok. We got a chicken 2 street taco, 2 steak street taco, 1 beef gringo beef tacos as well as Mexican potatoes. NOTHING had any seasoning or flavor. The steak for tacos was very dry. The beef in beef taco didn't have any seasoning. Tasted like plain ground beef & same with other proteins. Even the Mexican potatoes were plain. The 1 good thing was the salsa verde. What a disappointment after being recommended. Food was tasteless. Tried two enteees and both had no flavor . Taquitos had barely any meat inside . So waitress said we can make new ones and then the manager came out and said that is how they come - which leads me to believe That they were not homemade.Only rice served with entree - no beans ? Charged a 1.00 for a tiny cup of sour cream which should have come with the meal and was not told That there would be a charge . We would visit the location on Daniel Island occasionally after church events and were happy to have one closer to home. I think it's a solid place especially for a quick meal pre-dinner crowd (we usually go around 4-4:30 after work). Top notch Mexican Restaurant! Of all the places you can pick from, this will be the best. Get here early or you'll have to wait to be seated. The atmosphere is the best around, as Mexican places go. The staff aim to please, and the food lives up to its billing. Yelpers are right on when they give this place four or more stars, and that is backed up by the crowds. I had my first of many experiences last night and we just beat the crowd as people were waiting a little after we sat down until we left. The drinks were superb and our waitress, Marilyn was excellent. The food came out fast, a good sign of a well organized kitchen, but it was very tasty and hot! Don't miss this one people! read more
