We are starting our 7th year at Agia Sophia Academy as a family. My children started in the Montessori preschool where they learned the fundamentals, and are now really taking off with the Classical Education program as they become well-versed and comfortable in multiple subjects--math, literature, science, faith, history, and more. This school also provides excellent Music & PE and Art classes, as well as Library time and Greek & Latin instruction a few days per week. More importantly, the school is led with the most kind-hearted teachers and administration parents could be blessed to have. The children are taught from a young age to love and respect all people and their environment, and they are instilled with a personal responsibility to bring forth kindness into the world, just as the Orthodox church teaches. While I am thrilled with the excellent academic and cultured education my children are receiving, I could not be more overjoyed as I watch them develop into good humans. Details and logistics: Elementary classes are mixed grades (usually 2 grades per class), but capped around 16 students per class. The older students take on a more leadership role one year, and then have the opportunity to learn from role models the next. The student body is very ethnically diverse, and we have the opportunity to learn from many other cultures. The school provides after-school care which is helpful for working parents who cannot pick up right at 3pm. There are 2 musical recitals each year, and several other events for both fundraising and fellowship, which builds a warm and loving family environment. read more

Both my children are enrolled at ASA, and both of them absolutely love going to school each day! My husband and I are so happy to have found a school that has wonderful teachers & staff, offers a well-rounded exceptional education, and incorporates our Orthodox faith. A wonderful establishment! I was nervous bringing my twins here, but not only was everyone welcoming, they were loving too! Such a pleasant community to be apart of! My twins have flourished since being here, their teachers keep us in the loop, there are lots of activities for families to be a part of; and I love that God is the main focus. Our son is currently enrolled in Agia Sophia's Pre-K program and has enjoyed his experience thus far. Tuition ranges from roughly 7-11k depending on age, fulltime/part-time, and discounts provided if the student has been baptized Orthodox. Overall, I think ASA has provided above average learning opportunities for my son with the basic Pre-K (non-religious) aspects of his educational development. If Eastern Orthodoxy is not considered a foundational element to your child's growth, this school may not be for you. Liturgy, prayer, saints, and a complete acceptance of Eastern Orthodox worldview will be given the same priority as reading, writing, and arithmetics. read more

If you enjoy a very strict brand of Christianity that believes God is fearful and intolerant, this is your school. However, if you follow the learning of Jesus's love and understanding towards "all" people, please be led to a better learning environment. As of just last year, the teachers and leaders were much more welcoming to others and seemingly more kind to the children as well. Bullying (such as repeated notes to die and cruel birthday wishes) were merely brushed off by the staff. There are so many toxic examples from the staff and children from the middle school in particular. As an awarded educator of both private and public schools, it is disheartening to see this kind of education existing today. "Love is patient, love is kind" truly exists outside of this space. read more

We couldn't be happier with Agia Sophia! I could go on and on about the reasons why I LOVE this school, but the most important point that comes to mind is that the staff and teachers have really done a tremendous job guiding my boys to be responsible, independent thinkers! The teachers are very dedicated to the children and it is a very nurturing and supportive environment/community. My boys are accomplishing so much at ASA and it truly is an outstanding academic opportunity for our family. If you have not yet considered & visited ASA, you really must. We send our 4 children there & I cannot say enough wonderful things about the positive effect it has had on them academically & personally. Small class sizes (currently 1:10-13) provide lots of individual attention. Children excel in their strengths & interests & get the gentle encouragement & extra help when they need it. The PreK/K Montessori program is outstanding, teaching practical life skills, math, reading, science, & fostering a love & appreciation for beauty & desire for learning. These principles are enriched & carried through the successive grades by amazingly talented teachers. They have Music 3 TIMES A WEEK as part of a comprehensive music program. My 2nd & 3rd graders are learning how to site read, write their own compositions & harmonize. PreK comes home, not just singing songs, but talking about who wrote them & even about why they were written. They have Art once a week. Daily recess is split into morning & afternoon recess. These breaks really help the kids return to the classroom more focused. They also learn Greek & Latin which they love & absorb quickly. Our kids love it there & so do we! read more
