Costa Oil - 10 Minute Oil Change

Hey everybody -- we hate having to make posts like this, but we're dealing with a nightmare…read moresituation and could really use some advice, and we'd also hate for anyone else to experience this. Yesterday we took our work truck to the local Costa Oil for a routine oil change. This is a vehicle we've had serviced many times before, including oil changes, with no prior issues. During the service, the technician was unable to remove the dipstick and aggressively pulled it out, damaging the dipstick tube in the process. He then handed it to us as if it didn't belong there and spent roughly 10-15 minutes pulling, twisting, and yanking on the tube with pliers. When he realized it wouldn't come out, he forced it back in, told us we were "good to go," and handed us the owner's card. After leaving, we immediately contacted our mechanic, who advised that the dipstick tube should never be yanked or hammered--especially once damaged--because it compromises the seal and can cause further internal engine damage. While it isn't leaking yet, he strongly recommended parking the truck until the part is replaced to avoid a much bigger failure. Unfortunately, this part must be ordered directly from Ford or a distributor, with the earliest availability being about four days out. As many of you know, we're a local small business just trying to survive the slow season. Parking our work truck, covering parts and labor, expedited shipping, and losing four days of work is something we simply can't afford. We contacted the shop owner, and after reviewing the footage and speaking with the manager, he acknowledged via text that the technician aggressively pulled the dipstick, causing the damage. However, he is refusing responsibility and citing vehicle mileage as the reason, despite the damage occurring in his shop by his employee. We've asked multiple times for their insurance information so we can file a claim and have not received it. At this point, our only remaining option appears to be small claims court. We're posting this to make others aware and to ask for advice on how to best handle this situation. We understand mistakes happen, but taking responsibility when they do matters--especially when a small business is directly impacted.

I contacted them recently to discuss trading the trailer in to downsize. They were very receptive and ready to "make a deal". I followed the appropriate path of contacting my bank, getting the current trailer pay-off and selected a new trailer at a lower price. This granted me approximately $14,000 in equity in my current trailer. On the day I was advised to bring my current trailer in and trade, I had Kim, the sales person, on the phone with my bank with me present. I was confirmed approved, all we needed was the trade-in. After off the phone with the bank, Kim contacted her boss, Doug, who then revoked a trade-in and wanted to consign my trailer for sale. Kim then stated that they were "upside down on a lot of trade-in's that had sat for a while and they needed the cash flow" yet in the same breath assured me that "Doug thinks he can get your trailer sold right away". This seemed contradictory if my trailer as a trade-in will sell right away, yet they had so many sitting that they could not do a trade in. Then she advised that "Doug will do an across the board trade" and I inquired what she meant by that. Basically, she said he would not give me the equity in my trailer, however do an "across the board" for current pay-off and then take my trailer and I could buy the new one with a new loan. I sat there and did math with Kim and proved that with her "across the board offer" that meant that the business would pocket at least $9,000 from me, re-sell my trailer or consign it for a percentage of the sale price. She seemed very puzzled that I was aware of her dishonesty and scam. After calling her out on these calculations and their offer, I advised they would not get my business now or ever again if this is how a returning loyal customer is treated. Kim attempted to retract her statements, and I advised I was not willing to discuss anything further, I would pursue a trailer purchase elsewhere. In all sincerity, if you value your hard-earned dollar avoid this establishment.

Cody was the first to respond and provided the most reasonable rate for a complete interior and exterior cleaning. I set up an appointment through this app and checked in the night before to confirm my appointment. He estimated that the process would take 3-4 hours, and he actually spent 5 hours which I didn't expect but was pleased with due to the great results. Cody came to my house in the early morning on a hot summer day with all of his supplies, including towels, hose connector, wax machine, cleaning materials, and more, which was very convenient. He first washed my car in the driveway and let the foam sink in. He then had me move it into the garage where he could dry the car, wax and detail the interior. Cody was thorough in his work and clearly took pride in what he does, which he does well. I pointed out a few problem areas and he was able to address them accordingly. He went over what he did to ensure my car stay in pristine condition, including applying sealant, steam cleaning, and protective coating. I can already see a difference, especially the interior. Thank you to Cody for the excellent detailing job and time spent making my 5-year old car shine like it was new. I recommend his services to anyone looking to spruce up their car!
