Despite the lack of amenities, it was all worth it to watch the flocks of pelicans passing overhead and to run across the sand into the surf on a clean beach. Not too many people around and no litter in sight. It looks like this park is neighbored by a resort hotel, but the beach still appears to be a hidden gem. Another highlight is the plant life on the dunes here -- enough to prompt my parents to have a discussion about gardening and if they could grow any of those yellow flowers in their yard, and do they carry them at Lowes. Hah! In all seriousness, though, it's really pretty here. Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this. Shh.

She created numerous birdwatching opportunities and photo opportunities and we saw many colors of Egrets, beautiful spoonbills, I what I was told was one of the earliest sightings this season for white pelican. I highly recommend and will definitely return.

The show is held at the lovely and recently updated South Shore Harbour Hotel and Marina. There is something for everyone at this event. Of course there are plenty of boats on display, both new and pre-owned available for purchase. Don't be surprised if you see a truck and boat with matching paint jobs, Not in the mood to look at boats- no problem! There is a variety of vendor tents for you browsing pleasure. I've seen boat shoes, tote bags, nautical decor, jewelry and more being sold. Make sure to show up to the show with an appetite. There are several delicious food trucks on site and plenty of tables and chairs for dining. There is also several outdoor bars to take care of all your drinking needs. If you are lucky- maybe you will hear one of the local bands up on the stage located near the main outdoor bar. Wasted away again in Margaritaville, anyone? The show isn't just outside and on the water. Make sure to head inside the South Shore Harbour Hotel to attend an educational workshop or seminar. If you are not in the mood to use a porta potty- use the nice clean restrooms located inside the hotel. Rain or shine the boat show must go on! Don't let a little rain keep you from attending. As for parking there is a couple of parking garages. If those fill there is a lot of available grass located across from the hotel. The South West International Boat Show is a great family-friendly event that I highly recommend checking out.

The 3-4 acre property has quite a large number of very well manicured old oak trees with just a few palms. There is a very nice gravel path that runs along the fenced perimeter. There are also numerous benches and uncovered picnic tables along with a fountain to drink from, but no grills. You can park along the street or choose the parking lot located on Avenue O. In the parking lot is a home designated as a Galveston landmark, which appears to be available for special occasions such as weddings. At the rear of the house sits the park and a pagoda, which is perfect for weddings. Definitely a very nice park to sit and relax in, and a very nice asset to the local community.

Our Texas friends had taken us here for a day trip on a Memorial weekend during Covid, and they didn't even know the name of the beach we were at. Actually, arriving at the beach was an adventure in itself. After exploring the Galveston area, we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. The friend we were with decided against driving her vehicle onto the beach. It had rained a lot the previous night, and there were a bunch of pools of water along the beach. We spotted many sedans and suvs getting stuck in the wet sand. Highly recommend driving your 4 wheel drive truck. One of my wife's friends had a Toyota 4 Runner so they made a couple of trips to pick us all up, and take us to the spot on the beach where they had set up our picnic. The ride through all the water, and through all the sand to get to our destination was a fun and rough one! Cool off-road experience!! There were a bunch of folks parked in their vehicles along the water line. Everyone set up for a good time. Vendors selling kites and balloons. There was even an ice cream truck roaming the beach selling ice cream. Very cool seeing families and friends hanging out and having a good time. There are no bathrooms at the beach. Fortunately, one of our friends had brought a pop up pod. One of those useful pop up tents that you can set up to use as a toilet among other things. Do your business inside, and have complete privacy. Beach was beautiful. Water was fine. Sunset was gorgeous. Terrific day trip with amazing friends we had at this beach (whatever the name was).

oJanuary 17, 2024 I…read moreplayed 3 hours of pickleball and got home to to the west end and had no water. it's typical of the club of the isle; if it's not a leak it's "the water dept needs to do an inspection" LOL! i waited an hour and a half and came back here to shower. im ever so grateful to the city of Galveston for allowing the residents to recreate AND shower here for FREE!! thank you so much ps: Ms. Shelia [mgr in charge for THREE decades] is such a sweetheart, and so is Terrell the rec coordinator... both are such assets.
