me and a friend took the sunrise tour. it was pretty foggy...and having never been on a kayak...we were worried we'd tip it over [to say the least!!] we toured with julie...and had a blast!! it was easier than we thot...and soo much fun. we left wanting to go buy a kayak it's like an adventure being in kayak....relaxing, one with nature...we just loved it were going back this summer!! support this local husband-wife business...very friendly and knowledgeable

Julie was the consummate professional and a fun tour guide around the bay! She was knowledgeable, went at my pace and it was just like a friend is showing you around all the cool stuff that is here! Highly recommend and when I come back, I will book again!

I bought the Kayaking deal through Groupon for two! We bought this to enjoy kayaking as this was our first time. I called Beach Town Tours and confirmed the dates. Julie was very knowledgeable about the location and bay area and also suggested timing and attire requirements. We chose morning hours for Kayaking as this would be best to enjoy and also we could enjoy Galveston for rest of the day. After reaching the spot and signing the waiver, it was time for some safety briefing and know-how of Kayaking. Julie briefed us about kayaking and what to expect. She suggested we go with 2 seater as that would help us to navigate with ease with one helping other. We got into water after very short teaching and within 5 mins we were on our own with her watching us over off-course to make sure we are on route! Throughout our Kayaking, Julie kept us informed regarding the bay area flora and fauna and she was super knowledgeable. We stopped in the middle of the bay area where we could get down and see some shell formations. After a while we were back in the sea for some more kayaking and next 2 hours was pure fun! Time flew by and we were longing for more which Julie accommodated. We kayaked for some little extra time. I highly recommend Beach Town Tours for anyone looking for Kayaking experience or want to re-live the experience in bay area. I also learnt she also organizes cycle trip around Galveston Island which we want to try next. Thanks Julie for making our Kayaking memorable and fun! We will be back for some more action...

A friend and I booked a kayaking tour and it was amazing. Julie and Mike were very nice and friendly. They kept us informed about the weather in case we had to reschedule; that indicated to me they were looking out for our safety. Mike went out with us as our guide and he explained a lot about the different animals, the area, and kept the whole group engaged during the tour. Will definitely book them again!

A great time was had by all! We did the crabbing experience with 3 kids. They had a blast! The owners were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They engaged with the kids so well! I would highly recommend booking this experience for your kids!!!

This was an absolutely amazing experience! My fiancé had never kayaked before but I have been. They were able to walk him through it. It was windy but the view was unbeatable! Julie took pictures of us and sent them to me after our tour and they were perfect. We loved hearing about the wildlife and being able to see it. Thank you so much for a wonderful memory we hope to see them again!

    Gorgeous sunset!

Highly recommend! Wasn't sure what to expect of a kayaking tour and this was actually my first time ever kayaking. I had a blast! Julie was so knowledgable and has a great personality. We made our way through a little path which was fun to maneuver through, found hermit crabs (which you're able to take home as a souvenir) and since we got there for the 6:30 tour we were able to get beautiful pictures with the sunset in the background. Again I definitely recommend to everyone for whatever occasion. Birthday, date night, or just to try out! Me and my friends are coming back again soon.

We did a sunset Kayak tour with Julie! We got there a little early as suggested. They were very punctual and already had everything set up! She gave us great instructions to help us control our tandom kayak. She gave us 3 options for routes we could take with her personal suggestion. We took the beach coast to a little canal into a lake. It was absolutely gorgeous and the sunset was stunning and timed perfectly on the way back! Julie also has great guide knowledge from local history to wildlife to share on your trip! We would highly recommend Beach Town Tours.

My friends and I had a great time kayaking with Julie for the sunset tour. I thought it would be just an out and back. But Julie went through great length to teach us about the wildlife of Galveston bay, and pointing out the animals. I highly recommend Julie and Mike, as they will cater the tour base on weather condition and the age of the participants.

Awesome experience, Great tour, will definitely be back!!

Word of mouth is definitely one of the ways that these tours garner more people on each tour. Our tour guide for this evening was David and he was so welcoming and knowledgeable on the tour that our tour that evening went on a bit longer than it should have. I chalk that up to everyone on the tour being enthralled by the history and the many questions we all had. Plus David took time to go a little more in depth for the tour. As you can see, our tour was of the Red Light District of Galveston. This tour gave me more insight into how Galveston was in earlier times and how that shaped the way Galveston was shaped. Where we were in the city definitely embraces the red light portion of it. Some businesses paid homage to the area and the significance it played in shaping the city. Where you start your tour is basically where the Port of Galveston once stood for the many military ships that would drop anchor here and the many sailors would start their journey into town. As the name suggests, this area was exactly what it was and the buildings still bear signs of that time. Many of them have upper balcony areas which allowed for the working ladies to work. We made our way through the area to notable businesses that have been in the area a while. So much so that they have markers on the building to let you know where water levels were during past hurricanes. We were also informed about what the Blue Light District was. I had no idea about this, but that refers to the section in the city that catered to those looking for working men for some same sex fun. Learn something new every day. While this tour focuses on the Red Light District, we walked and got a lot of information and history on other things around the island as well. Some topics touched on were the mob, the railroad, the historic buildings, and how life was in this area of the city. You can almost see the lines of the neighborhood as you are walking as well. Now, this isn't necessarily a ghost tour, but it could be as we were told about chilling things that happened in this area and the outcomes of some of the people in the area. Definitely a worthwhile thing to do if you have the time.

Highly recommend this tour. Easy walk. Fun info about the area. David was excellent!!!read more

Baywatch Dolphin Tours is one of the most popular dolphin excursions on the island, taking guests out onto the Galveston Harbor on a fleet of four different pontoon boats with shaded seating and open sides for sightseeing. Dolphins often swim through Galveston Bay and are easy to spot on wildlife-watching outings from Pier 21, and as such, a dolphin-watching trip is a perfect excursion while staying at your Galveston. The outings last 45 minutes and cover 3 miles of waterfront, so they're easy to squeeze in on a busy day of sightseeing in the Downtown Historic Strand Seaport Area. On this tour, you'll be able to see Galveston's waterfront attractions, like Pier 21, 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA, and the S.S.Selma while learning about some of the harbor's history. As a veteran, I was most impressed with the history of the S.S. Selma. Fun facts: The Selma is a 7500 ton reinforced concrete tanker built in Mobile, Alabama, was launched on June 28, 1919. The ship was one of several concrete ships conceived and designed during World War 1. Construction was not completed until the war ended. The ship had a length 420 ft., a beam of 54 ft. and a draft with full cargo of 26 ft.. and loaded displacement was 13,000 tons. This vessel marked the first use of shale aggregate expanded in rotary kilns for lightweight structural concrete. The tour guides were both entertaining and knowledgeable. If in the area, this tour is definitely one to go on as it's for all ages and can please those like me who like to learn historical facts on trips, for those who love nature (the dolphins were very active during our tour) and for all those in between. * Tours happen rain or shine

An adult ticket for the one hour boat tour is $17 and you can add another tour of the adjacent sailing ship Elissa for another $8 to make it a combo price of $25 total. Tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket booth at Pier 22 between Fisherman's Wharf restaurant and Willie G's restaurant. This tour is conducted on a 50' boat with twin inboard motors. The boat has a lower deck that is covered with open sides and another deck upstairs that is open air and provides the best seats for viewing as long as the weather is good. All seats are general admission so if you want a topside seat board early. The tour makes one loop of the inner harbor along with venturing just outside near the shipping channel and on the other side of Pelican Island. There you pass by the Naval Museum that includes a destroyer escort and submarine from WW II both on land and a little further you will see the remains of the old SS Selma freighter that was scuttled there. It was a ship that was built of concrete during WW I and then scuttled shortly thereafter. For some reason, my tour only got with about 250 yards of it and no closer. Also during the boat ride you will numerous dolphins that are native to the area. There are other tours advertised as dolphin watching tours and I'm not sure how they are different from this one because my tour saw many on our ride. An added treat was being able to cruise by Battleship Texas which is currently in dry dock on the other side of the harbor and fully exposed from the stern for great viewing. The tour returned on time. The only reason I don't give 4 stars is because we should have gotten closer to the Selma for viewing and pictures and the audio speakers topside were very weak and made it hard to hear the live narration of the sites we saw passing by. If you visit the island and want to get out on the water and see the sights this is a good diversion to consider.
