Just bought a fixer upper from the 1960s and a lot of the house is in its original state. It still has the popcorn ceiling and we found vinyl flooring once we pulled back the carpets. We definitely want to remove the popcorn ceiling and the vinyl flooring, but was concerned with asbestos (especially with homes built before the 1970s). We needed to test for asbestos and AIH was recommended by my neighbor, who's an architect. I would have to say that it's very convenient to get your samples tested. Here's the detail: You can either get the sample yourself or ask them to send a technician to your house to get the sample for you. When I called, the price for sending someone is around $500, but it included (I think) 10 sample testings... that's a little bit higher than other companies I called but it's in the ballpark. Given the price, I decided to get the samples myself. After a couple Youtube videos and a quick trip to Lowe's to get the protective gear, I was ready to go. The testing price is very reasonable, so I took more samples than needed. I took 6 separate samples from our house, placed in ziplock bags, filled out the paperwork and dropped it off at their office at night (to avoid the traffic). I received the testing result back within 24 hours (dropped off at 10pm, they probably opened the samples in the morning 8am or shortly after, I got the result around 4:30pm)... that's pretty efficient. read more

I rarely write reviews. This is my first on Yelp. We have a remodeling job which would require removing some plaster and stucco wall as well as disturbing a popcorn ceiling. So I hired this company to come to take samples and test. The result shows asbestos in ceiling but not stucco and less than 1% for plaster wall. They told me that in California the asbestos content has to be less than 0.1% for it to be removed without license and that a more accurate but more expensive test needs to be performed to determine that. I grudgingly agreed. When the new test result came out, there was no asbestos detected in the samples. They told me they will update the initial test report and refund the charge for the new test. I was quite surprised because I did some research and learned that the first test based on Polarized Light Microscopy is a rough test and can yield false positive result. So their charge for the second test is totally legitimate and I have no problem paying for it. The fact that they refunded me shows an extraordinary level of concern for their customer's feelings and a high level of integrity which needs to be praised and made known. read more

Wanting to check on asbestos content in our popcorn acoustic ceiling, I found AIH through Yelp and found they were fairly close and offered a drop box service since I wouldn't be able to get there during business hours. fantastic! I do organic vegetable gardening, and I periodically get my soil tested. I wish I had found this laboratory sooner. The price was 1/2 of other laboratories I brought my soil to. Real easy to understand the results and compare with EPA standards. It's more expensive if you need a 24 turnaround, but if you are willing to wait a 1 week, you get the results by email it's much more reasonable. Also normally laboratories just give you the results, but don't actually explain what they are supposed to mean, and you usually have to do the research yourself to identify if your lead levels are higher the average, or acceptable.. The technician at AIH had someone call me back to clarify some concerns, and emailed me information to use as a reference. Will be sending them more samples since the price is within my budget. read more

This is a great place if you want to get quick and cheap testing for asbestos. I believe they test other things too. Just bring a small once inch sample in and you can get results the next day for a very reasonable price. Zubair is really nice, friendly, and helpful too.
