I've been counting the minutes until my son was old enough to start practicing martial arts. Well…read morethat day has come!! Whenever I research anything new for my family, especially my children, i'll start by looking at Yelp reviews and then google. Once I narrow it down to the top 2 or 3 in my area, then i'll ask my very trusted circle of peers to see if any of them have had experience with and/or have heard anything about the businesses. One stood out online as well as within my peer group comprised of other parents, Anthony Hong Tae Kwon Do !! SO, next step was to contact the studio and get a feel for them right over the phone(i'm a big "energy guy" so can feel if it's right or not immediately just by speaking to someone, lol;-). I spoke to a Master Joseph who was super friendly and very excited about having my little guy come try out their studio. Being that my son just turned 4 I know that there's a possibility that he may not like it so it was important to me that they have a trial period just to make sure before we officially lock in with them. They indeed do and it's a really good one. Only 39.99 for 4 intro classes AND you get a Gi with that which is worth $50 itself, wow!! That takes us to our first class.....my lil dude was nervous as heck and wasn't feeling it. UGH! Master Joseph was super nice and super patient and said don't worry this is pretty common. Told us to bring him back another day and let's give it another go. We did just that and this time he did GREAT and loved it!! PHEW!!!! I will say I was a bit skeptical when I saw Master Joseph as he looks really young, lol. After now watching him with our son, other children as well as adults for about 3 months, I can't praise him enough. He is absolutely FANTASTIC at what he does and he's PHENOMENAL with children!! You can tell that he has a true passion for teaching and helping others and I couldn't feel more comfortable with him guiding my son through his young martial arts journey. I also want to give a shout out to the grand master Anthony Hong himself as well. He runs a tight ship but is also super nice and works VERY well with the kids. His reputation throughout the community is rock solid as being an all around great guy! I've actually noticed that there's just as many adults that practice here as well and there's even classes where you can attend with your child! Who knows, maybe my old ass will get in there some day haha!! All in all, I couldn't be more happy with this studio or the instructors Master Joseph and Grand Master Hong, and the fact that my son is not only learning to defend himself but more importantly he's learning self confidence, respect and discipline. All traits which will help him become a fine young man some day and that he will carry with him forever. Oh and btw, I didn't think Johnny was ready to test for a belt after only a couple months and Master Joseph said he's ready. Well he was right, Johnny broke his board first shot, boom!!

We enrolled our kids (preschool-K age) in taekwondo to help build their strength, boost their…read moreconfidence, and help them overcome some social anxiety. We couldn't have found a better dojo to help us accomplish these goals! Both Master Joseph and Grandmaster Hong are fantastic! They work very well with both of my young kids. They are extremely patient and amiable, but they also know how to push their students to try harder and be better. They make an effort to foster discipline and hard work in class. They are great at keeping the kids engaged, so that they may not even realize they're working hard! Our kids really enjoy working with them! We drive almost a half hour (sometimes 45 mins) to go to their studio, even though there are other taekwondo classes available just down the street from us. That speaks volumes about how much we value the patient, steady work they are doing with our kids! We know that this is an investment in our kids' growth and development that will pay off in the long run.

The…read morecoaches are present, attentive, and truly invested in your improvement -- they'll take time to correct small details, answer questions, and help you progress at a pace that makes sense for your goals. On top of that, the gym culture is incredibly accepting. New people are welcomed, nobody has an ego, and it feels like a team. As a woman in a male-dominated sport, I really appreciate how respectful and comfortable the environment is. I always feel safe, supported, and encouraged to push myself :)

Also a…read moregreat place for kids, I don't have any but it's cool to see a space with proper classes like when I was growing up with a balance of the art and martial aspect of both for kids to understand early. TLDR: I've trained for about 10 years in my pre-20s era and have been training an additional 5 in my near 40 era. I am a refugee of a place that closed in Kearney Mesa and I am super happy to have found a new home at Rebellion! You can train the well known Muay Thai+BJJ BUT ALSO GET THE ILLUSTRIOUS JUDO AS WELL! ALL IN ONE ROOF! Coaches: Awesome and helpful for everyone of all skill levels Facility: Perfect balance of equipment and space to do stuff Community: Welcoming, friendly, respectful but also they do not bow to others unnecessarily - as a proper martial arts place will instill the same understanding of mutual respect between people, the give and take and is represented by the staff and coaches. Hard thing to find these days in the world. Intensity: Just right, you don't have to fear of physically overtraining here because you took 1 extra class during the week. You get a good sweat going, learn solid techniques and are ready to come back the next day feeling better and ready to learn more! Lastly - Fight Gym or Martial Arts place?: A balance of both, you'll learn technique at the intensity level you are comfortable at AND you won't be pushed to your physical limits every class resulting in overtraining. This is a place to come to and come often so you can get better, do you want to compete? Let the coaches know! Do you want to just learn? Let the coaches know! The journey is in your hands and everyone, literally everyone is willing to help. Finally a place without the crazy egos or "over friendly sales" aspect I've been through a ringer looking for places to train my love for Judo and Muay Thai and this place has it all!
