I appreciate that there is someone available to answer questions about new memberships/billing. Very professional. The kids class is massive and they have plenty of instructors on the mat to help. Instruction here is top notch. It's kind of expected that you'll get "thrown to the wolves" when you start jiu jitsu as there are really no "basics/beginner course"; you just immerse and catch up eventually (unless you pay extra for personals). I appreciate that they see when someone needs help and they provide it, instead of leaving you lost and floundering. As for adults class, everyone is friendly and respectful. There are no women's classes (that's fine) and males and females are mixed in class but they do a great job with the culture to ensure the women don't feel intimidated. The female black belt instructors do an amazing job at putting new female students at ease. Everyone is so nice and respectful and I have not had any negative experiences. More emphasis on self-defense aspect here, which I appreciate. Very realistic. But they'll also get you competition-ready if that's your goal too. I'm writing it because as a prospective student--and as a man--I believe in being honest, standing by my experience, and holding people accountable for basic professionalism and courtesy. I initially reached out to Legacy Martial Arts / Kung Fu San Soo in Redding because I was genuinely interested in what they had to offer. I made several attempts to contact the instructor, both through phone calls (voicemails left) and via the website's contact form. I even showed up in person once and found him teaching a private lesson, which I completely understood. But despite multiple efforts over an extended period, I received no reply whatsoever. Eventually, I left a message through the website expressing my disappointment, and I posted an honest review outlining my experience. Almost immediately after that, I received a phone call--his first response--offering an apology and citing a "family emergency" as the reason for the lack of communication. While I do sympathize with personal crises (we all face them), the timeline of my attempts to reach out didn't quite match up with that excuse. Emergencies don't last for weeks without a single moment to return a message--or have someone else do so on your behalf. It didn't add up. Even then, the apology was lukewarm at best. What I got was, "One of my students saw your review, which is unfortunate." In other words: he wasn't concerned that I felt disrespected--he was concerned that his student saw a negative review. It felt more like damage control than a sincere apology. Despite that, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I took the review down and told him I wouldn't pursue this further. I figured, maybe we just weren't a good fit. But again--no reply. No follow-up. No closure. Just silence. Later, I reached out one last time to express how I felt--not to stir the pot, but to give him one more opportunity to show some human decency, to say, "Hey, I messed up. I'd like to make it right." But once again--silence. At some point, silence becomes a statement in itself. Whether it's passive disregard or some misguided idea of dignity, it's a bad look either way. A simple acknowledgment, even just a "wish you the best," would've gone a long way. But that didn't happen. So yes, I'm reposting this review. Not out of anger, but because I stand by my conviction: when someone repeatedly ghosts you, gives vague excuses, and only responds when their reputation is at risk--it speaks volumes about their character and their business. To anyone considering training here, just know this was my experience. Maybe yours will be different--but this is mine. And I have every right to share it.

He's been here more…read moreconsistently now (at age ten) and has grown in his skills since - not just fighting skills, but those of self-discipline, respect, and care for others. He's been allowed to help the younger children and been given responsibility as seen fit. He enjoys coming to class very much. Coach is the kind to push someone past their ability because he sees potential, but not past the point where kids would lose confidence in themselves. It's a fine balance and I appreciate having someone coaching my son who understands and acknowledges this. Also, it's funny because a lot of parents fear that putting their kids in to a fighting class will promote violence but it has done the opposite. My son hasn't gotten in trouble for fighting or any other physical altercations in the past six years. We'll continue coming here!

When we contacted Nicole in billing she said she would review if my girlfriend put in a written stop even though she hadn't been there and her locker was cleaned out by staff. My girlfriend wasn't physically able to sign the paper until August. So we were charged the extra two months even though she never attended one day. Horrible customer service. I will never use the Y again or recommend them to my friends.
