I was initially drawn to Airfield because I saw a post about their St. Patrick's Day Blind Tasting but ended up just doing a normal wine tasting instead. The space, wine, and host were great. I found myself wishing I lived near-by so I could visit more frequently. I didn't try their charcuterie plate but would love to in the future. I will probably keep scheduling our wine region vacations for the less popular times of year and mid-week because I love visiting businesses during their quieter times. read more

If you like sitting alongside a major, noisy highway while doing a wine tasting, then this is the place for you. They try to compensate by adding a rock wall with water and live plants. Nice effort but doesn't work. Wine - the worst tasting we've done thus far today. Wine is weak at best. I really don't have anything positive to say so I let it go at that. read more

We visited Airfield Winery today, and had a delightful visit. The place was clean and set up for social distancing. I appreciated the wonderful staff, who explained things thoroughly before we entered the building or sat down at our outside table. I felt that the tasting was a safe and clean experience. The wines were great, and I appreciate the ability to taste one wine that were open and not on the tasting menu. On a sustainability note, I love that the oyster crackers were served in a glass jar. I don't know why reusable wine glasses are used for the tasting and disposable, single-use plastics are used for a spit cup and water glasses. If the winery has a dishwasher, they could use their stemless wine glasses for water and create a little less waste in this world where less than 10% of plastic is actually recycled. read more

We were looking for a winery and this was near town. It was Friday and not crowded. We sat in the back room on a couch with coffee table. Rather than pouring each sample the server brought us 5 small numbered carafes, a menu, and 2 wine glasses. This was perfect as we were able to take our time. The facility is clean and spacious with an aviation theme based on the owner's original property. It would be perfect for a private event. There is outside seating in front with a nice water feature the blocks most of the noise from the nearby freeway. After sampling I took a 2018 Cab and a 2020 Chardonnay. Vineyard Salute, Bombshell Red - 2018 This signature red blend is as sexy as her bottle. Leave it to "the friend bringing the wine" to unknowingly select a bottle from my hometown. This dark beauty has aromas of plum, blackberry and cocoa, leaving lingering flavors of dark fruit and toasty oak. Countless times I've attended barrel-tasting weekend, but this little red wine never tasted as good as she did tonight [pairs well with a hint of nostalgia and a single salty tear]. Needless to say, for old-times sake, I went online, the price was right and purchased a replacement case. You've got many fans on the west-side, Airfield Estates. Airfields is as good as it gets! I've been a club member of Airfields for about 2 years and normally visit the Woodinville, WA tasting room given its proximity to my home near Seattle. We love the taste of most of the wines as well as the affordability of the bottles, much different than some of the area's more pretentious wineries. We have wanted to visit the prosser location for a while and finally made it. To set the scene it was a whopping 109 degrees outside so we were so pleased to enter the tasting room with strong AC and their signature frosé being available. It was a pleasant tasting and we greatly enjoyed the newest member wine along with our trusty favorites. The frosé was just the icing on the day (pun intended!) ! The wine steward was friendly. It would have been great to take a tour or observe some of the production but nothing like that was scheduled during our visit. read more

Airflight Winery is wonderful with great history. However, I took my mother out for an outing this weekend. We landed at Airflight, it seemed like a comfortable place where mom and I could enjoy a cold beer. I had a friend in the car show next to this particular winery and wanted a comfortable place for my mom while I went to meet up with my friend. We were actually ignored. I suppose it was because we were not tasting wine and buying wine but enjoying their craft beers instead. What a sham. Got a snobbish feeling after all. Had an all-around great experience here: lovely tasting room, great people, and some fantastic wines. Try their Riesling - it's not a dry Riesling but it's also not overwhelmingly sweet...it might be the best one I've ever had. If you like Ice Wine, their Late Harvest Riesling (different Riesling than the one described above) will make you very happy. They also have several reds that others were thoroughly enjoying; I just can't speak to them. What moved the visit from "really nice" to "great" was the gentleman behind the counter who took care of us AND who identified a couple of other wineries with options we might enjoy given our taste preferences. We came during the 5k weekend. We had fun running the 5k at the vineyard. They had 2 food trucks in the back with great food selection while the grape stomp was going on. They have a very good red wine selection and during the summertime, I highly recommend their Frosé. read more

Came here a few years ago in November, and I recall it being good experience. This time, we came in summer. We arrived before 11 a.m and there was only one other group tasting, so we got to sit where we pleased. We chose outside because I appreciated the ambience of the waterfall. We got a mixed flight ($15 each), and I would say the wines were okay. There was nothing that really stood out to either of us. And for only having two tables and a couple of walk in sales, I'd say the customer service was meh. Last time we were here, the server was knowledgeable and friendly, even though it seemed busier. This time, we saw our server when we ordered at the counter, got our flights, and when I went up to pay. I just think there's something to be said about having a representative who checks in on the tasting experience and offers insights on the wines, etc., especially when it's not very busy. So it was just an okay experience. Would I go back? Yes. But did I buy more than one bottle this time? No. read more

We ask for a charcuterie, never comes. The owner Lori comes in and chats w the women seated. She brings them samples of the frose', completely ignored us which we are the only other 2 in there. Have enjoyed Airfield Estates wine for years, however it's a been a challenge for me to find in stores near home. When I visited Yakima and found out there was an Airfield Estates Winery location in Prosser, I could not come this far and not visit. Less than a mile right off highway exit and so easy to find. The outdoor seating area was shaded and has a rock waterfall and pond. This sound of water added to the ambience. You can see and hear it from inside as well. It was extremely hot so sat indoors where it was much cooler. Did a tasting and picked up some wine and couple of souvenirs. Love their posters too, will pick one up in the future. Selena elevated the experience being very attentive. I enjoyed her company and attention to detail. Came home with some of the chardonnay (unoaked and french unoaked). Kudos Airfield Estates for your amazing wine and tasting room associates. Everyone was super welcoming. Next visit will be to their Woodinville location with is closer to where I live. read more

We really enjoyed this place! The wines were pretty tasty. We were greeted quickly! The woman gave my kids 3 airplane toys to put together and offered them graham crackers. My dog even got a treat too! They waive tasting fees with bottle purchase and gave us a military discount. The tasting room was decorated nicely and very clean. The Premier Pass took us out to this winery. This review reflects more on the poor planning then the actual wine. The wine was ok but nothing special.. It was advertised as being open till 6pm, with food trucks. We got there at 4:45. Only 1 food truck was left and about half sold out. They had a lot of guys working "security" standing around but no one actually cleaning up. I watched 3 "security" dudes and a few other workers walk past garbage on the floor and never pick it up. You could not use the winery restrooms. Only the 3 provided port-a-poties. Not even the nice port-a-poties, but the cheap ass ones. So maybe its with stopping in on a normal day.. But avoid it on an event weekend! read more

I am so glad I could finally get out to Prosser and check out the winery. I love the Woodinville location so much that I became a wine member. Of all the wineries I have been to (see my list's on my profile) I have to say that this is hands down the best club deal. They just ask you to buy 2 cases of wine a year and it can be at any time or anything! I think I could go through 1 case a month! What I love most about this place is that their wines are great quality and are so affordable. They remind me a lot of Chateau Ste Michelle's Columbia Valley Label is what I would compare them too. Both great wine brands. I have been a club member for a little over a year now. I get all the emails and it sounds like they have some really awesome events at the prosser location and I wish I lived closer or could get over to it more. Anyways! This place was great. The staff working was really friendly and made conversation with us. Since we were club members we got to taste some of the NEW RELEASES (another perk!) and I loved them! Airfield is by far one of my very favorite wineries. The staff is made up of some of the region's most approachable and friendly people. Their wine knowledge is impeccable, yet quite understandable. As a fairly recent transplant to the area, I only started to truly appreciate wine in the last year. Airfield is one of the many wineries in Prosser, but has one of the nicest facilities. Their recent Merlot is nothing like other local merlots. It's a little more fruit-forward on the palate and is very drinkable, even for those who prefer something a little less bold. They pride themselves on their flavorful blends, and each is impeccably created. Airfield hosts a foot stomp in October, which is made into new year's Foot Stomp Rose'. For white wine drinkers looking to just wet their toes in a red (no pun intended), this is the perfect wine. It's sweet and full of flavor. The foot stomp itself is a ton of fun, and an experience true to Washington's Wine Country. (It wasn't as comical as the famous LUCY episode, but it's been one of my favorite and most memorable experiences in the area!) For a memorable and pleasant experience in tasting wine, you MUST try Airfield. They really do have the friendliest staff in Prosser, and some of the best wines in the state. read more

This is one of my favorite wineries. Well, since I'm a wine club member here now, it has to be one of my favs. The best thing that comes out of this winery is their rosé. It's consistently good! They always sell out within a 4-5 months of release so if you like it, I suggest buying in bulk haha! I'm mainly a white/rosé wine drinker and my boyfriend loves the Reds so they have a well rounded selection. Their Pinot noir is fantastic for those who are used to whites but would like to try some reds. It's my fav red. My boyfriend loves their merlot. I feel that all their wines are reasonably priced for the quality that you get. I'm more of a beginner in this wine world but don't really like many of the grocery store wines (I get overwhelmed with the many sections and always end up not liking it) so this is a good place to try many different types of wines and explore. I never go during big events though. They hold many events throughout the year but I like going on an off Saturday to taste and pick up a few bottles without fighting the crowds. We headed here first because when I did a search for dog friendly Prosser they were the only winery to come up. (Kestrel also let us bring our dog in, but I know Desert Wind was marked no pets) Super nice folks, terrific shaded patio on a blazing hot day, and really nice wines. We joined the club and bought the Riesling which was effervescent and delicious. They brought me tastes outside while my husband was tasting inside, and they brought our dog water and a cookie. We visited on a Sunday morning and enjoyed an empty tasting room. They have a lot of neat gifts - of particular note was the Wine Taster's notebook, it was detailed enough that it would make it easy for anyone to track what they like or don't like about every wine they taste. They also had a lot of neat bottle carriers and wine bags. They make a nice riesling here that they said is made in the Kabinett style which gives it less alcohol content. It's a very smooth and sweet with only about 7.6% alcohol content. The woman who served us was very friendly. She set out some crackers once we switched from the whites to the reds which was nice to cleanse the palette. The tasting list was fairly extensive and it was nice to get a taste of everything before comitting to buying. Their desert wine was very sweet, it was interesting to learn that they pick the grapes very late and freeze the bunch themselves afterwards. read more

Airfield Estates was our last stop of the day, as they are open until 6 pm. There wasn't a tasting fee and there were at least 20 wines to choose from. It was quite crowded when we got there, and one of the servers led us to the back corner of the bar where we received stellar service. I was practically standing behind the bar, and nobody told me to get out of the way. Very fun personalities, both among wine pourers and clientele. I really liked the slightly off-dry Pinot Gris. The reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was very, very smooth. The Aviator was a blend of Cab Sauv/Merlot/Cab Franc/ Malbec/ Petit Verdot, and so good just on its own. My absolute favorite was the Hellcat, a blend of Temparnillo, Grenache and Syrah. The wine was delicious and the attitude was all fun, though after a full day of wine-tasting, most everyone is likely to be in a good mood! read more

Funny thing out at Prosser is that only some of the wineries are open early on weekends. Airfield is one of those (typically open by 10:30 on weekends). Plus if you're serious about tasting (by which I mean taste and spit), then the early shift is a great time to go. For the options in summer 2016, obviously it depends on your taste, but unless you like acidy whites, I'd bypass those entirely and head right for the reds. Strong and bold profiles with some a great variety of notes, especially in the "hellcat" Bordeaux blend. Also-- ask the staff if they have a bottle of the Tempranillo open-- that will knock your socks off for a low price ($25-30, great for a pork or lamb dinner). read more

We are members here. Have been for the past year. I stop in anytime I come through for work and pick up a couple bottles and get a taste or two or three. The first time we ever came in was the first time we had ever been wine tasting. We met the owner, Mike, and he was fantastic. We were a little uncomfortable visiting these tasting rooms at first, but visits with people like Mike really changed all that. He was full of great information and a ton of stories. A family of farmers turned wine makers. And make wine they do! Some of the best we have had in the valley. We have met most of the team by now and they are all very nice. We recently got a white in our shipment (we are a red only member here) and I mentioned it at our last visit. I just wanted to be sure we were in their computer correctly. They verified that we should have gotten all reds and someone must have packed it wrong. No problem. I went on with my tasting on the Reserve Cab. The next thing I know - I have a bottle of the missing red (an 06 Reserve Syrah!) in a bag in front of me. Great customer service and a really cool family business that I am proud to support. They are dog friendly (there is almost always one in the tasting room), have "foot stomp" parties where you can get involved in making the wine you love to drink! There is a great private tasting room that can be rented. Ask to see it. It is out of this world cool! Thanks from one Miller family to another. Brothers from another mother! After several days of venue food at the Gorge Amphitheater, my friend and I were excited to venture through Washington Wine Country on our way home to Oregon. While the Willamette Valley is well known for its Pinot Noir, we were in search of BIG REDS, and good food! Tasting in route to the Gorge, the staff at Gilbert Cellars (Yakima, WA) indicated that the Vintner's Village in Prosser, WA, was a must stop. We booked a room at the Best Western and planned our entire wine tasting adventure around this area. In general, Vintner's Village was a disappointment- a view of wire fencing and the aroma of exhaust. I envisioned "walkable" as a cul-de-sac ala many resort grounds, not a row of pop-up buildings, with estate facades, along the frontage road of the Interstate. I thought, "Perhaps I am not fully appreciating the drive-thru convenience for "tourists," and the tasty wines will make me forget about the lackluster scenery and lack of outdoor seating I have become accustomed to..." I was immediately drawn to Airfield Estates Winery. After all, my son is a pilot; I get it, it's a hangar. Our experience at Airfield Winery was like a scene from the classic British comedy, "Fawlty Towers." I give Airfield an A+ for effort, but a D- on execution. Skeptical that we'd be able to spend an entire day in Prosser as originally planned, we asked for recommendations for accommodations and restaurants. We had read the reviews of two near-by bed and breakfasts, and on a tapas bistro called Picazo 717 that was not open on Sunday, but we wanted a local opinion. There were two staff behind the tasting counter who initially gave me disclaimers, "I don't live here; I live in Sunnyside (the other, Tri-Cities)." Finally one offered, "Well, people seem to be happy with the restaurant at the Best Western." I countered (thinking they misunderstood our request), "Really? Where would you go if you wanted a nice meal?" My friend added, "Price is no object." Still, they were unable to give me a restaurant recommendation within 60 miles. After calling in reinforcement, Mike Miller, owner and grape grower, and his lovely wife, were unable to name one local bed and breakfast or recommend a local restaurant. Even after calling their son, Marcus Miller, the winemaker, they were unable to give one firm recommendation. They were so entirely nice about it all, I wasn't the least bit flustered. What I learned is that Prosser comes alive during festivals and is otherwise a very sleepy town. The jury is out on whether or not their Chamber of Commerce is doing an excellent job at marketing the town or failing local businesses completely. They certainly missed the mark this particular Sunday afternoon. Casey, one of the staff, finally pulled us aside and suggested we visit Fidélitas (Red Mountain) as our benchmark. Indeed delicious! At Fidélitas, we were led to a surprising family-run treat, Wineglass Cellars (Zillah), and landed for the night at Birchfield Manor Country Inn (Yakima, WA) for a gourmet dinner and farmhouse bed. Oh, the wine? I'd give Airfield wines, a C-. I could grab any grocery store bottom shelf selection and be just as satisfied. The whole experience was fruity and flat; none of the complexity of tannins. I will return. Perhaps, Airfield Estates Winery simply needs to age. Rating: Really? read more
