We came to the park to plane watch this day. There was a lot of open space dogs to roam and play and also enough for everyone to have personal space. The view of the runway was nice and there were terminal 2 planes flying over us. I definitely prefer the aircraft viewing area though. read more

My dog and I love this park! It's awesome for throwing the ball and for him to get a good run in. There's is also a path I can walk the circles the park I feel like getting exercise myself. Tips (some may not be applicable if walking): 1) Bring Doggie Bags. None are provided and while there is no garbage bin you can either bring it home to throw away by pinning it under your rear window shield wipers or by (being braver than myself) and bringing it in the car with you. There's actually a human park not far down the road you can take it to to throw it away if you'd prefer. 2) Bring a towel or backseat cover! This is really only necessary if you're going to the park post rain or snowmelt but critical because even if your dog stays out of the puddles the whole park is grass and there for muddy. My mom even likes to swing by Bubbly Paws on the way home when she takes her pup. 3) Bring layers anytime it's not straight up HOT out. You can always leave them in the car. I myself have been going for ages and still forget the temp drop that tends to happen in that wide open space right next to another wide open space where the planes taxi/take off. The most important for myself - insulated mittens & some kind of scarf or face/neck covering. 4) Bring a jug of water possible to help out (in an empty milk carton or something) to help fill up the water bowls. Even I'm not always able to do this but I thought I'd share this tip since it took months before I realized those awesome dog bowls and water inside were provided by other park goers (another reason I love this little dog park community)! read more

My first time here was a two weeks ago on a Sunday. Probably about 60 dogs there, thought it was great nice and big. Lots of room to run then I noticed poop bags hanging on the fence just dropped anywhere and the main field is covered in poop!! people there don't pick up their dog poop and there's also no trash cans to throw it in! probably the filthiest Dog Park I have ever been at. will not go back. read more

Went here for the first time, and I was a bit disappointed there were no fences especially being right off of the main road. The park itself was beautiful with a lot of trees and little paths between them. It was larger than I expected and very beautiful. It's in a unique Minneapolis location I've never been to in my 15 years of living here. There are also no garbages for dog poop either, which struck me as odd. Good place for dogs to run and enjoy, but no fences or garbages. read more

This is a great place to stop and let the dog get their sniff on. You'll need to bring your own water and carry out any poo your dog drops but this isn't an "official" city dog park. There is a ton of space for them to run and you get to watch the plane's either taking off or land on the two main runways which is always cool. read more

You can walk along the fence to be below the glideslope, and you can get incredible shots from there. On top of the hill along the fence you have a perfect view over. Would be great for filming. One of our favorite parks to go to! Only downfall is there's not access to garbage cans so you have to take your poop bag with you, which leads to many people not picking up their dog poop or leave their bags hanging on the fence. There is lots of open space for your dog to run and even a little water if your dog enjoys it, but it can get very muddy! Most owners keep a good eye on their dogs here so I never worry about my dog not being safe. Also fun to watch the planes! read more

This dog park is a pretty decent size so the dogs have plenty of room to run around and play. The main downside is there are not enough garbage cans. Also, I am skeptical about any dog park because there are always owners who just should not be at the park. The dog park is supposed to be peaceful but then you have people who just get so upset over the smallest things and this has happened at this park. read more

This is an excellent day in, day out off-leash dog park and it's completely free so no permit to buy or license required. If you come often you will meet many other "regulars" (whether Yelpers or not ),and if you want, be able to engage in some interesting conversations while watching the dogs romp around. There are also many different breed specific groups that get together at the park too, so join and check the Facebook group page (Go to: www.AirportDogPark.com). There is so much space that it is also easy to find a secluded spot to train or practice tricks distraction free until you and your dog are ready to move up to "distraction central" on the flat open space along the southeast side of the park. With it's many wide open spaces, it is a great place for some long-range fetch too. It won't be hard to find some other dogs to compete with yours for the ball. If your dog is a bit of a ball thief, carrying an extra distraction ball is a must. We've been able to train our dog to at least bring the ball she has stolen back. She will play a couple short games of "soccer" with the ball using her front paws but she makes her way back. There are also a couple small wooded spots with paths winding through and dogs seem to like to chase each other through there so that is a fun sight. Just past this area is a nice long flat area at the bottom of the hill. It borders the tall grass and area around Mother Lake and it can get pretty muddy at times during the spring and summer so bring an extra towel or two in the car, if your dog is a fan of this area. In the winter, when frozen over, it becomes a huge area of trails to explore and the park doubles in size. Just be careful to make sure this area and the lake are frozen. As it is smaller and shallower, it usually freezes over before Lake Nokomis so that nearby lake is a good guide for you. A couple tips that others have probably mentioned are: 1) Bring your own bags to pick up after your pup and bring a couple extra to clean-up after others that may not know or forgot. It makes it much more enjoyable to walk around when people do. 2) Do not hang your bag on the fence along the parking lot. MAC doesn't appreciate it and they have generously allowed us to use the land. 3) There are no garbage cans so like in BWCA camping, pack the waste out. Most people go with the end of the bag under the windshield wiper trick which works great for a city streets trip home, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are getting on the highway. I forgot once and made that mistake. ...enough about the dirty business... 4) You can bring water for your dog but don't assume there will be a "dish" (there often is one though) and expect the water to become a shared commodity. 5) The extra ball tip, if you have a ball thief, that I mentioned above. 6) If you're a night owl or an early bird, try a headlamp to keep an eye on your dog 7) Be smart about your dog and dog aggression. If your dog is aggressive or even set off by certain dogs, this may not be the best place for them. Take a specific class to help your dog and then try out the park when they are ready. Even if your dog is fine with others just keep a somewhat watchful eye and pick up on signs early if another dog may be aggressive. There are no "dog police" out there but most owners do a great job of keeping their dogs in line. 8) Have fun and enjoy this excellent off-leash dog park we have. It's a real life-saver if you have a high energy dog that requires lots of exercise. With so many different breeds that frequent the park, it's also just a great place to wander around with your pup as you do some fun dog-watching! read more

I am so sad that my first inclination to review this park is due to a bad owner but I feel that I must warn others. I have a Pit Bull and I am always worried about other people judging her for what she is. But what she is is just another dog. She is not aggressive, she is not mean nor has she ever growled or snapped at anyone or anything. She is just a dog no matter what her head size is. I have been going to this park for the one and a half years that I've lived in the neighborhood. There are plenty of other bully breeds in the area and who frequent this park. I'm not saying that the incident that happened was due to my dog's breed but an older woman was involved and there would be literally no other reason for her to treat my dog the way she did unless she was discriminating. The story goes as thus. My partner and I arrived after this woman and were second through the gate to the park. I gave her ample space to get in first and unleash her dogs (one remained leashed for a few minutes and I told my dog to play with someone else and she did). At the time of night that we went there weren't too many dogs around so unsurprisingly my dog followed this woman to play. Our dogs played together for a few seconds appropriately and mine moved on. At one point (once the woman's second dog was off-leash) our dogs met again and hers seemed to want to play. This black Scottish terrier would follow mine and they would chase. This dog stopped with its back to the fence and snapped at my dog. Mine backed off and I calmly told her to leave the dog alone and let's go elsewhere. Now this owner gave my dog 0 chance to vacate the area. This woman aggressively staged herself at my dog WITH A CANE and kept walking towards her touching her with a cane and sometimes even stabbing the ground. This woman was between me and my dog with no way for me to grab my dog. Claiming things like "Your dog really likes to pick on the little ones" etc. I told her "Please do not do that. I am uncomfortable with that" and "That is threatening to my dog. Please stop." More words were said but they do not matter because this woman did not listen. We eventually were able to leash my dog and promptly left. There was a gentleman who saw the whole thing and had a few choice words to say about the lady. The incident happened so quickly and I became upset just as fast. We (I) calmed down in the car while we decided if we should stay or not. It was then that I noticed that my dog had wounds on her face. This woman's dog bit mine and she preceded to claim that mine was the aggressor. Now dog behavior is complex. We could tear apart what happened piece by piece. I'm not saying that my dog is a perfect angel and came when I called STAT or that she knows when a dog is saying no but this woman did not handle this situation appropriately. If she hadn't have waved a cane in my dog's face and denied that hers was behaving poorly we obviously wouldn't be upset. A responsible dog owner would have called her dog off as well and apologized after hers drew blood. We confronted her about the wound after we noticed it and she was obstinate and unresponsive. Again, this woman had two Scottish Terriers with her. A white one and a black one. The black one was the one who bit my dog and its owner claimed it was a puppy after we talked to her. (This doesn't have much to do with the story. Only for description purposes). This was an older woman wearing a visor and carrying a light wood colored straight cane. She was approx. 5'10". PROS: Two gates to enter from Variety of terrain (Grass, dirt, mud, swamp, tree cover, field etc). CONS: (See above) Though everyone who saw the incident sided with us and were going to steer clear from cane lady No poo receptacle Not fully fenced A happy note: I once saw a dog chasing birds in the air in the field area. This dog was basically running in circles with its head in the air, smiling. A nice image to remember when thinking of my bad one. read more

My dog loves the airport dog park! this is a wonderful place for dogs to run around off-leash. It's huge and there's a lot of room for them to run around. Depending on which way the planes are landing / taking off, sometimes it can be a bit loud, but it's usually not too bad. A few things... -This property is officially owned by the MAC, and it's more of an "unofficial" dog park (not like the Minneapolis City Dog Parks). So, there are no garbage cans. Be nice and pick up your waste and take it with you (there's a garbage can on 28th just on the north side of 62 as you leave). It's a small annoyance, but it's worth it! -There's a small portion of the park that is not fenced in...it's at the end of 28th street. read more

I love the Airport dog park! I can't say everyone I've brought there loves it like I do, but this is my yelp and I'll give you my opinion. There is a lot of open space for your dog to run around, there is always parking available, there is no off leash permit required, it's always open, and my dog loves this place. Here are some things people I've brought there did not like about the Airport Dog Park.... There is not a garbage on site so you have to bring your poop bags with you. It can get muddy in the spring/after rain - the dogs love it, but putting them back into your car after is your own problem. There is no water available for your dog, you'll have to bring your own if your dog is thirsty. It's not completely fenced in, my dog is very well behaved so this isn't a problem for me because she stays close, but it can be problematic if your dog is a runner. There are no lights, so if it's after sunset, it's dark. The airplanes can cause a lot of noise. There is a stinky sewer drain that can smell pretty bad sometimes. I've been going here since 2008, I have no complaints because it's a free park. read more

I walked dogs here for a friend and it's a really nice park. Super spacious! The dogs can tell when we're getting closer and they have a happy freakout. Beware the swampy area at the very far west side. Beautiful fluffy dogs go straight for it and cleaning off the muck is harrowing. Like others have mentioned, no garbage cans or water. I bring my own water and dispose of the poo at a park garbage can down the road (past 62). read more

Both my dogs LOVE this dog park! There are 80 acres to run free, off leash and there are always a variety of people and pups to play with. If your dog loves to play ball this is a great place to go crazy with the chuck-it. Beware of the marsh in the summer and only 3 sides are fenced in so if your pup tends to run off you should be careful here. You need to bring your own water and you have to clean up after your dog and take it with you as MAC doesn't provide garbage cans. It's free and fun and I think it's the best "unofficial" park in the city. read more

Puccini loves this place and digs on watching the planes. Good open space, smaller than I'd anticipated. Provided everyone picks up the poop, it can be a pleasant experience. I met a friend and her dogs here today for a doggie play date, I had never been here before! My dog had a blast, tons of other dogs to play with, lots of room to run and sniff, and everyone seemed friendly! I wasn't super keen on the fact that it's not fully fenced, my dog doesn't have a great "come" recall, but he did fine. I love that it's free and clean! I've only brought my dogs to the dog park one other time and had a bad experience, so we've stayed away, but I think we will start frequenting this dog park! Thirty minutes of running, sniffing and playing and my dog was tuckered out all day long! Cons: No trash cans No water area read more

The ONLY reason this will not a 5 star from me is because it is not a proper dog park with garbage cans and such provided. HOWEVER, this is a FANTASTIC off leash park with very respectful dog loving people and great dogs! I have a Frenchie who craves speed and the flat, slightly sloped area provides her a racetrack... I also have an elderly daschund who appreciates the open space away from crowds and an easy terrain. This place rocks. One word of caution, please ensure your pup is trained well enough to not run into the public street and can enjoy only the space provided... which is more than ample! I love this place! read more

This is a great place for both humans and dogs. Please note that today the airport police and MAC crew were out and gave a warning to two ladies who were out walking past the signs. We were informed that your first offense would be a warning and the second time is a ban for you and your dog from the airport dog park. You dog is still welcome to go out into the reeds. Also please make sure to pickup your dog poop and bring it home to throw away and not on the roads. We love it there! read more

I'd much rather go to one of the many nearby official dog parks than this loud one that is not fenced in and has no garbage cans. I understand why they do not have these amenities, but my dog and I would rather go to any of the dog parks within a couple of miles where she can drink water and run free without my having to worry that she will run onto airport property. read more

I finally made it over the Airport Dog Park. Unfortunately, the park is not fully fenced, in fact the large portion that is not fenced is near the road. The road is not super busy, but it only takes one car at just the right time for your visit to end in tragedy. There is also mucky standing water. I feel that there are better places to play in the Twin Cities that don't require so much anxiety. read more

My dog and I love the airport dog park. He radiates joy as he romps around the huge area, which includes hills, marsh, a forested area, and most importantly, a ton of room to run and meet other dogs and/or take a solo stroll around the grounds, depending on your and your dog's personality. Also, it's free, which is a huge perk, and it's one of the few dog parks in the South Minneapolis area. I docked one star for no garbage cans and some small areas that aren't fenced in. However, dogs don't really congregate in those areas, and the park is so large that it has been no trouble to keep my very active dog safely within the park. read more

This place is huge with tons of places for you and your dog to enjoy! If you like seeing the planes flying over it's s great place! I love that users clean up after themselves!! Downfalls? The park is not 100% fenced in. You can keep your dog away, hopefully from that area, but if your pup runs and doesn't listen, it's not the place for you. The only water activity is a swamp.... No lake, pond, or River. If your dog is like ours, they head right for it anyway and come out smelling gross! I don't think there's a trash to throw your bagged poo in either, but it's close and free. read more

I would agree with most of the reviews left here. For a free dog park that doesn't require an off-leash permit, it's great. I bring my dog here a few days a week to socialize and get exercise and haven't had many issues. PROS: - lots of space for your dog(s) to run around. - doesn't require an off-leash permit, unlike the much smaller dog parks in Minneapolis. - the regulars are pretty friendly. CONS: - there are no waste bins. the park itself relies on the honor system of picking up after yourself, but I frequently see bags of poop hanging from trees, the fence or lying in the parking lot. The majority of dog owners are courteous about pick-up, unfortunately, there are always a few bad apples that either don't pick up after their dog or leave waste at the park. Very annoying, especially when you step in a pile. - there are a couple of areas that aren't fenced in, so if your dog is prone to running off or doesn't listen well then beware. It would be nice for the entire park to be fenced off but it's free, so I shouldn't complain. - unfortunately, there's no policing of the park, which means individuals who own aggressive dogs have been been allowed to come and go as they please. I've seen a few incidents involving pit bulls and I wished those owners would exercise some common sense and keep their dogs at home. read more
