After a test to see where my son needed help we were given a plan and got started. My child has been attending sessions this summer and will continue throughout this next school year. He is motivated and continues to go to math sessions with enthusiasm. Mathnasium offers incentives for the kids to progress and I have added some of my own at home. My son likes the incentives and he is gaining confidence in his math skills. This will not only help him in math this next year but I believe that confidence will spill over to other areas as well. As a parent I want to help my child but I'm not always able to be as effective as I would like. Beatrice and her staff have provided a great relief for both me and my son by helping him learn what he needs to learn and reinforcing what he already knows. My son (who actually does well with online learning) did the trial and felt he could do better on his own. I eventually got someone who did in person tutoring. In my experience, a lot of these online classes and tutors benefit the tutor but not the students. If you have a student who does well with online teaching, maybe this is okay. But if you want to pay big money, make sure you get results. For our family, the benefit of taking the SAT over and over was good. But not having any human interaction with the tutor or peers was not good. My son eventually scored a 1570 but with an in person tutor and taking the SAT five times.

I asked the instructor about this and he said it was typical but let's see how the SAT goes and then we can assess if we want a 1:1 session (more $$ of course). We received the SAT scores and the total score has no improvement. After the 2nd practice test I inquired if we could get a list of question that were answered incorrectly so we could focus/revise studying and it didn't happen. The program is very expensive to not see any gains or meaningful improvement in overall test score from the practice tests. Instructors should know how to get students past a plateau.
